The hotel is good for the price, but the bathroom is very very small (we stayed at the 2nd floor). The garage is not included, so you have to pay 15 dollars.

The best thing about this hotel is its location. The rooms - too small. Two adults, two big suitcases and two pieces of hand luggage, and there is no space to step on the floor. The AC was not working properly and after various complaints, the staff did nothing to solve the problem. It was freezing cold! We stayed there for a week - the same poor breakfast every single day! I guess, it is ok to stay there for two days, but no more! One had to request service, so the room would be cleaned. Am I going to stay there again - BIG NO!

You will get a better deal if you book directly with the hotel. Everything is extremely clean and well-maintained but don’t expect any luxury features. My room was small but certainly all I needed for a few days. The front desk is there 24 hours a day and the staff is accommodating. Breakfast is OK but the only thing available hot is the toast. They offer fresh fruit. Overall it’s a good deal for a very clean basic hotel.

Refused to give us breakfast 15 min early, even though the continental breakfast was ready, with staff present. We had to leave to catch a bus. Then charged us expensively for water in rooms. Also, no coffee in rooms.

Well I have a history with this hotel. In 1988 on my first trip to Montevideo I stayed here. I had bought a 3 day 2 night package deal in Buenos Aires. So I decided to revisit the place. Hotel America is in a great location to be a base for exploring the city. It's easy walking distance to the Ciudad Vieja and other downtown cafes and museums. Most of the city buses pass by a half block away on the main drag so transport is easy. The rooms are clean and the wifi works properly as do the bathrooms. The price is very reasonable, the breakfast is a buffet and is good. It's a good secure base and the staff were able to speak English and help out with questions.

The rooms are small and can get a bit noisy, but otherwise fairly comfortable. The staff was very friendly and changed the fridge in our room when we mentioned it was broken. The location is what sold us on it, as well as the price.

Service in this hotel is very bad. The lock box doesn't work and couldn't get help to fix it. They charged me 40$ more, because I took an apple from the breakfast area outside. I was eating the apple and left the breakfast area. So they charged me 40$. And they couldn't help with any request I made about the city and places to visit.
