Beel
Chinadi
Beel
is
one
of
the
important
wetlands
within
north-central
hydrological
region
located
at
Dulalpur
Union
of
Shibpur
Upazila
in
Narshingdi
District.
This
perennial
wetland
expands
over
220
acres
that
carrying
high
biodiversity
values
from
a
long
time.
The
beel
is
connected
with
Haridoa
River
and
Shitalakhya
River
with
a
canal
namely
“WAPDA
Khal”.
Hundreds
of
migratory
birds
roam
here
during
each
winter.
The
beel
is
enriched
with
20
more
fishes
and
numerous
floral
species.
Rui,
Katla,
Punti,
Boal
etc
are
the
important
fishes
of
this
beel.
The
beel
is
prominent
for
Lotus
flower.
The
tastes
of
the
fishes
of
this
wetland
are
very
alluring
and
local
people
believe
that,
eating
this
beels’
fish
cures
their
diseases.
It
also
bears
the
tourists
attractions
of
the
locality
and
each
of
the
day,
hundreds
of
tourists
visit
here
to
enjoy
the
beauties
of
this
wetland.
The
wetland
attenuated
the
floodwater
from
more
than
1,000
acre
surrounding
lands
and
more
than
five
hundred
families
depend
on
their
livelihood
on
this
wetland.
Center
for
environmental
and
Geographic
Information
Services
(CEGIS)
is
conducting
a
study
for
sustainable
restoration
of
the
wetlands
within
different
hydrological
region
of
Bangladesh.
As
a
part
of
the
study,
Chinadi
Beel
is
one
of
the
wetlands
that
is
planned
to
restore
and
enhance
its
biodiversity
through
implementation
of
following
biological
and
engineering
interventions:
• Plantation
(Strip)
of
swamp
tree
along
the
western
boundary
of
the
Beel
(1.5
km)
to
support
migratory
birds
and
fostering
indigenous
fishes
• Establishment
of
fish
sanctuary
at
the
middle
part
of
the
beel
(1.0
acre)
to
facilitate
indigenous
fish
migration
• Re-excavation
of
WAPDA
Khal
from
Dargabond
Uttor
Para
to
Paratala
WAPDA
Bazar
(3
km.)
to
facilitate
fish
migration
among
river
and
the
beel
and
contribute
offtake
flow
for
Haridoa
River
• Construction
of
recreational
site
at
the
bank
of
Chinadi
Beel,
Shibpur
to
facilitate
the
eco-tourism
within
this
area.
