The Italian sandwich was OUTSTANDING but I’d never return because the bartender was extremely rude and condescending. I can’t imagine why he would speak to customers that way when he works for tips. He should really get out of the service industry and Duke’s should have a higher standard for their employees.

Honestly the best sandwiches but I’ve been coming here so often and have gotten tired of the rudeness of staff. Every drink order and tip comes with a complaint, it is such a hassle to order any type of sandwich and they ridicule every order. No matter what you order at the bar it’s an inconvenience to every bartender. Honestly it’s sad because I used to love it here :/

I used to enjoy stopping here for the sandwiches and a cold one, but as some of the other reviews indicate, the staff here can be pretty repulsive. They dramatically threw my food down in front of me during my last visit. The whole vibe has shifted to snobby, pretentious hipster now. Very juvenile, cliquey feel among staff and a subset of patrons. Far better and friendlier dive bars in Nashville.

I grew up in Nashville and visit home all the time. When I do I meet folks at Duke's because it's a fun bar and has great sandwiches. Any review moaning and groaning about ID policies clearly needs to go their TN rep or try living in another state like Utah or AK where the requirements are even more stringent. Do yourself a favor and have an up-to-date ID and check this place out.

Great drinks, sandwiches and staff. Always a great spot—whether you’re flying solo or meeting up with friends!

The environment is lively, but there is a guy who works there who I believe to be afraid of money. I went to this location for their legendary sandwiches, only to find a bartender who was unable, unwilling to accept an order(this, I witnessed from his interactions with others, before my own). I witnessed the same gentleman get rude with customers ordering basic drinks. If you're already drunk and indifferent to quality of service, this place might be for you, but if you actually care where you spend your money, I suggest picking another place.

I would give 500 stars for that awesome sandwich if I could. Double pastrami with provolone and Duke’s mayo. I destroyed that beast like Genghis Khan destroyed the population of China. I don’t think I even gave it time to cool off. Just obliterated my tongue with the fire of a thousand suns as I hoovered that monument of meat down my gullet. But wait. There’s more. After eating that I ordered another sandwich that was equally delicious. London broil, Vermont cheddar and mayo. Also the guy who brings out the sandwiches is awesome.

Dukes is one of Nashville’s best kept secrets . If you grew up in NY or NJ in the 80s and 90s , when you taste their sandwiches your gonna instantly be thrown into a time warp .I used to love going on field trips because i knew I my dad was gonna buy me a sandwich that taste just like Dukes sandwiches also they have the audacity to make house salt and vinegar chips . Look!!!! Go there. The staff is great ,the drinks Affordable, and the sandwich game is on point .

I love Duke's with all my heart. The first time I had one of their sandwiches was after a super long shift at my job (I'm a cook in a fine dining kitchen). I hadn't got a chance to get groceries and I really needed something to eat at 1am. Another local bar stopped serving food and pointed me to Duke's... I usually go a few times a week! The cook who runs the kitchen is a darling and makes (imho) some of Nashville's most amazing sammys. Thanks y'all 🥰🎉

Good local place to stop by for beers and good sandwiches. We got the pastrami and London broil sandwiches. Both were very good but the London broil was excellent. Overall good experience and would definitely come back.

For sure my favorite bar and maybe my favorite place in all of Nashville. This place feels like home in all the best ways. The drinks are cold, the music is good, the sandwiches are delicious, the staff are friendly — it is the perfect bar.

My friends and I came here on a Wednesday night after being told about the sandwiches from another bar down the street. Needless to say, my sandwich was amazing. Another plus, you could DEF taste the liquor in the drink, so that's awesome. I hardly find bars that make the drinks strong. If you're looking for fancy, this place is not it. For instance, I LOVE the bathroom & graffiti in it. So great honestly. Thanks for being so friendly, y'all! The only thing is I wish there was different music playing. But then again, conversation with my friends about how good the food was over shadowed the music anyways.

Great music and drinks with laid back vibes. Plenty of options for beer and cocktails. If you get hungry, just grab a sandwich. You'll fondly remember the Italian if you are a meat eater.

I have been there so many times over the years and this past Saturday was the last time myself and my friends will ever be there. A total mob mentality persisted starting with the two guys spinning records that night and what appeared to be their friends and crew. After someone else was getting thrown out by other patrons, not any bar staff, we decided we needed to get out of that environment. It was only 11:30pm. When we were trying to leave the corner of the bar a young woman standing beside the dj booth kept pushing a blow up snowman in the way so we couldn't leave. I finally told her we need to leave and we need to scoot this back to get out of the corner of the bar. She kept pushing it back into us and then threw a drink at my head. Then I was being grabbed by the same group of fake punk rockers that threw somebody else out. They pushed me out of the door, came after me and my friends trying to jump us and fight. NO BAR STAFF EVER INTERVENED! This is just dangerous, unsafe, unprofessional and piss poor management. Hopefully the next door guy will pay more attention instead of smoking weed with the people on the porch and bar staff will speak up about unruly patrons. Time for this place to disappear and turn into a Starbucks✌️

Cool little bar. Needed some late night food and the sandwiches were fire. Price was fair. Especially in this economy. Thanks for letting me buy a sandwich late at night. You guys rock

Nice local bar, decent service. Beer is cold and they have a deli which is sweet for when you get the munchies. Old fashioned could use some help, but it's not the easiest to make and if you want a solid one, Duke's probably isn't your first choice. Would recommend it for a cold beer and sandwich!

Delicious Sandwiches that keep me coming back. Dive bar vibe with overly loud music and $6 taps. Gross bathrooms and nothings beautiful about the place aside from the $10 sandwiches served till bar time.

Love Duke's! Great prices on drinks and sandwiches. Music is usually a great mix of oldies on vinyl. Staff is always friendly.

Great corner bar with friendly staff. Such a great antidote to touristy Nashville.

Have always been a fan of Dukes but todays experience was less than ideal as I watched the person making sandwiches lick his fingers and then touch our food. I guess the saying is correct…”never watch how the sausage is made”. Needless to say, won’t be coming back

I heard the food here was good and we decided to make this one of the last stops of the night for something to eat before going home. They have custom sandwiches and a selection of choices where the toppings are pre decided. The sandwich was really good. The bread reminded me of the same bread Cuban sandwiches are served on in South Florida. We visited on a Saturday night and there was a 10 minute wait to get in and about a 25 minute wait once we ordered the sandwich to be put on our table. The bartender said it’s usually that busy so be prepared to wait for a bit or save room for one more drink while you wait. They also were able to cut it into 3 pieces so we could share it which was nice

Great place for sandwiches. Super cold beer. I had a 218 sandwich...was delicious. My daughter had the #2 and that was even more delicious. My mom had the Cuban and loved it. We all ordered the sandwiches hot. I would definitely recommend.

This review is for the late night sandwiches. We got a ham n cheese, and an Italian. It was after midnight, there wasn't much open, and we didn't expect much, but to our surprise, the sandwiches were great for a late night snack.

Rating them 3 stars (edited to 2 stars based on the tone deaf response from the owner) based on reputation alone. Would have loved to have had a drink here, but the door person refused to accept a legal, temporary ID issued by the state, so they lost our business tonight. Hopefully they re-evaluate this stupid policy. If the ID is state-issued, then it is LEGAL. Period. Response to reply from owner: Let me get this straight. You want me to contact THE STATE about your private business not accepting a temporary ID issued by THE STATE we are physically in. Why would they issue this ID for use if they didn't intend for it to be used in the interim while we wait for the permanent card? You're just passing the buck instead of owning up to your terrible door policy. Instead, our money will go to your neighbors who accepted this ID as the legal document that it is. Wishing you all the best in the new year. Bless your heart! Note: If you have a temporary ID, DO NOT GO TO DUKE'S!!!

Old man Duke was a treasure. I remember him back in the day. He made a hella good rutabaga sand-witch.

Classic Italian sandwich is always a solid decision. Sadly didn't have Guinness on tap this time around so I must drop a star...

Randomly stopped in here with a buddy the other night. This place is exactly what bars should be like. The bartender Brandy was top notch and upgrading to a boiler maker for $1 is my kind of deal

It's open late on Main/5 points, so it deserved a visit. That said, the food took quite a while to get out, and for the price it felt pretty slim. Grab a drink, sit outside or in, catch up with friends. That's what Duke's is perfect for.
