We were excited by the aromas when we first walked in, but the meal was only ok - nothing special. We placed an order that contained a chicken box with a 1/2 chicken, 1 rib box with a full rack of ribs, and mac & cheese for sides. With ratings as high as this restaurant has, I was expecting something much better than what was served - especially for the price. For anyone that has not had authentic BBQ before, the shortcomings of our meal might not have been noticed, but it really was only fast-food quality at regular restaurant pricing. The meat on the ribs was hard, a clear indication that it had been cooked for too long and also left heating for too long. The BBQ sauce was both too sweet and acidic with too much fake smoke flavor. The chicken was the best part of the meal, as it was still juicy and tender, but the gravy was bland. The corn muffins were too dry, and even with the chicken gravy on them, not worth eating. The mac & cheese was not fresh or cheesy, just lifeless, hard pasta with some unmelted globs in between.

Very disappointed after reading reviews. Ribs were brought to the table far too quickly - a bad sign. Ribs and chicken were bland, nothing special at all. Food was brought to the table just warm, not even close to what it should be - hot! For the money, it was not worth it. New owners?

Just left this little gem and it was fantastic. Half rack of ribs, beans (amazing), slaw, and brisket sandwich were perfectly cooked. House sauce is great too. Service was great from the owner. Hard to find good authentic BBQ joints in Canada and these folks nailed it. Well done. Will be back every time I’m in the area.

This was our 2nd time visiting Nelson and going to Smokewood BBQ. We are huge barbeque fans and this place is a favorite for all forms of smoked meat they serve. My wife enjoyed their salad too. The atmosphere is simple, cute and clean.

Super good. Love the pulled pork and ribs. Nice sides that come with the plates. Simple authentic and good :) and prices were reasonable as well, was full for two under 30$. Awesome deal!

Great bbq for Canadian standards (can’t beat the southern states). Nice owner. Mac and cheese is a great addition to your order. Ribs and brisket were fall apart good and pulled pork was tasty and smoky. Sauce tho was the standout. Kept adding more. Well done!

Good BBQ Brisket. A little pricey for a sandwich with no sides though.

Nice guy seemed like the owner. Had pulled pork and chopped brisket. Not that big of portions for the money. Pork was middle of the road. Brisket he left a half inch of fat on some of the pieces so kind of nasty. For the price, expect big portions and for them to at least give 100 percent edible meat. I am not being nitpicking no joke fat chunks the size of your thumb in the brisket. Very clean place friendly service. If I go back try different stuff.

I got the Pulled Pork Sandwich today,it comes to 10$ even and its worth every penny,their food is delicious and one of my favorite reasons to visit Nelson 5/5 would definitely recommend.

Sooooo good. We had a pulled pork sandwich (amazing), a platter (devoured by my son), and a full rack of ribs. Meet is delicious and tender. Baked beans are really good. Overall excellent BBQ.

Great food, I have worked here in the past and over the years I'd say the owners have grown tired, and food quality has slipped a bit otherwise I'd give 5* Service could also be at a higher level. Still One of the best BBQ places in probably all of Canada! HIGHLY SUGGEST THR BBQ BOX to taste and experience a great selection of what they offer!
