This is an absolutely beautiful cathedral! I stopped in twice during my visit to New Orleans. Once to sit quietly and pray and the other time to attend Sunday mass. The murals, stained glass, statues and architecture are breathtaking. The mass was excellent and very satisfying. It was a very special experience and definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

I love this Cathedral. On the north side, outside, the shadow of the Jesus statue is formidable. Inside is immaculate. It is open to all. Come. Sit down a moment and take in all of the splendor. It is breath taking even for someone like me who despises religion, but the religious do create magnificent places for them to feel pious.

The St. Louis Cathedral located on Jackson Square is a great location for a of you who want to visit a local landmark. We visited during their construction and remodeling which was a little annoying to not know as most of the roof and the ceiling work covered in scaffolding which took away from the full ambience. Another thing it really was interesting is the arch catcher is absolutely gorgeous but then there’s certain spots where you can dip your credit card in to pay for donations and things that just took away from the experience a bit. They do have rosaries you can buy which were very beautiful and I wish I would’ve gotten one. The frescos on the ceiling are currently partially visible but for the most part not really.

In town for the week and was glad I was able to attend Mass at 9am on Sunday. This Cathedral is huge, beautiful and historical. Beautiful landscapes outside facing the Mississippi River. Enjoyed Mass here today, felt like one of the churches I grew up in New York (Blessed Sacrament). Definitely recommend stopping by even if it’s not for Mass. I believe the church is over 200 years.

The most visually distinctive and iconic cathedral in the entire United States, and an absolute must see. It’s drenched in history and is an enduring symbol of France’s legacy in the area. Truly incredible

This is a beautiful functioning catholic cathedral. It has a gorgeous mural on the ceiling with impressive painted/ stained glass along the sides. Please maintain reverence as you visit. The history is about as old as any church you'll find in the Americas.

My husband and I were in New Orleans during the holy week. I have always wanted to visit the Cathedral. It has always been synonymous with the city. I love the open door policy. You may come in and take pictures. It is breathtaking!!! I was fortunate enough to attend Easter services. There is a lovely gift store where you can purchase rosaries, crosses and other religious items.

Beautiful courtyard, beautiful architecture, beautiful pictures. I was sad that they were having private services the day we went so we couldn’t tour the inside. We went during visiting hours but a wedding was taking place. Maybe one day I can get back.

Beautiful church in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans. Nice mass, beautiful and vivid paintings inside. Outside, you may get "entertained" by the detractors of the Catholic church. Also, you'll see tables with voodoo dolls and cards. Interesting contrast. Scaffolding is up inside March+ 2022.

Four stars for group of people and/ single performance to show their talents in front of St. Louis Cathedral and between, Jackson square, beside Louisiana State museum. They're really great and amazing!! Paintings made by native New Orleaners are perfect and they're talented to their gifts. It's just the church itself is closed during our visit. Hoping to have an opportunity to sit inside and to listen a homily in a whole mass.

A beautiful church in the middle of the French Quarter adjacent to Jackson Square. There's also a plaque commemorating a visit from Pope Paul VI and a sculpture commemorating a visit from Pope John Paul II. I never go to any city without visiting some of the old/main cathedrals. There's always great works of art and interesting history.

The St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans most notable landmarks. This is one of the oldest cathedral infamous for it's architecture. Everyday they hold mass and free for everyone. Really love inside out of this amazing landmark. Outside there is Jackson square, french quarter, cafe de munde. In all this place is very happening and one of the must see tourist attractions.

Such a moving experience. I'm so glad this is open to tour. My daughter and I enjoyed the time we were able to spend here looking around. Such a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter immediately outside its doors. What a testament to the everlasting stories and beauty there is to discover in New Orleans.

It's relatively more modern by Basilaca standards but relatively old for the new world. The outside is not as impressive as the outside. The altar is as ornate as those you can find in Rome or Europe. Since it's New Orleans it's air-conditioned which is a big plus.

St. Louis is the oldest cathedral in North America and is worth seeing for that reason alone. It’s a beautiful old church in a picturesque area of New Orleans and won’t cost you anything to stop in to at least take a peek. Peaceful in the morning before the Jackson Square area gets busy.

Stunning historical architectural venue. Notable stop along the river near the French Quarter. Free admission and free to tour on your own. Relatively safe and friendly area to visit during the day. This landmark is a good meeting point if meeting up with friends or tour guides. Spectacular views all around. Wonderful place to take photos! ♥️

It really is a grand, spired circa-1700s church with stained glass, a painted ceiling. The ceiling is impressive, the architecture is impressive. Very calming and peaceful inside. Just outside the the hustle and bustle of Jackson square with street performers, but you wouldn't know once you are inside the cathedral. If you are in the area, just walk inside for a moment to take it all in. Many restaurants, food, and music nearby.

What a great place to have a wedding!! We went for a friend's daughter's wedding and enjoyed the venue. A very beautiful, old church with a lot of history. After the wedding all of the tourist outside the church waited with the groom and bride to come out of the church and cheered for them. It was very cool.

The oldest cathedral in the U.S. This place was very peaceful to visit especially on a Sunday afternoon. The interior design reminded on cathedrals I have seen in Spain. It definitely has a vintage feel to it. Some say there are some other spirits hanging around the outside of the church. Be sure to light a candle on your visit inside.

A must do when in NOLA. It is free to visit and can be quick or long based on your schedule and taste. Some people spend a while in quiet prayer while others are in and out after a quick photo to say "we were there". The cathedral is iconic as the center of old life in the Quarter, yet remains a beautiful monument to the history of the city as well as its current life. We were lucky enough to visit when nobody else was in the Cathedral except for the haunting voices of choir practice from somewhere within. It only made the sanctity of the place even more special. The Cathedral is very unique for the US in that it has as much French as Latin in the inscriptions and art on the walls. This reminds visitors of how unique this building and city truly are.

This place is amazingly beautiful. It was such a nice, peaceful place to rest and meditate a little bit. The architecture is incredible and the artwork and painting is breathtaking. I’m grateful they allow anyone to just go inside a breathe for a few minutes and worship however they will.

Stunningly, beautiful cathedral. We attended Christmas Eve midnight service and it was truly beautiful. We arrived around 11:15 and joined the line to wait outside. There was a choir which performed before mass started and throughout the service. There is a large group of dedicated ushers that take their responsibilities seriously.

3 months before February 2020 I had a dream about being pulled into hell an angel appeared and pulled me out I ran into a building and a figure asked me what are running from as he picked me up and carried me he told me if you ever need me you know where I am !I took this picture after praying in the prayer room! On the chest of the cross his face appeared my life had been blessed forever! He has given me everything I ask for to this day! One love I believe now! I was born in 1968 July 25 with a star on my chest now I know why!

Beautiful representation of faith and architecture. Free access. Spent about 30 minutes here. Was a good way to introduce our kids into a different way of approaching faith. Many saints stopping by to pray. Faith, Hope and Charity’s depiction on the sanctuary is absolutely beautiful.

I visited St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans before Christmas and was thrilled to discover a concert featuring the legendary Irma Thomas singing Christian Christmas carols. The experience was delightful, inspiring, and moving – truly unforgettable. Highly recommend this incredible venue for a soulful and uplifting experience!

What a lovely building. It reminds me of a castle, and with all the beautiful landscaping and other structures surrounding it, it is a must-see here in the French Quarter.

Incredibly beautiful. I just kept taking it all in. The quiet, soothing music of the monks singing playing in the background was such an added bonus to my experience. The stained glass windows, the beautifully painted ceiling, gave me a sense of peace in my chaotic, hectic day. It was a wonderful addition to my trip.

A beautiful, sacred space. Nestled peacefully in the heart of the French Quarter lies the Cathedral Basilica, which honors the French King IX. The statuary and windows are quite unique. Above the altar stands Hope, Faith, and Charity. Light streams in through scenes from the saintly king’s life. On the ceiling, beautiful images of the Nativity and Peter receiving the keys, as well as the Apostles. The liturgy we were present for was great (and the Sunday 9:00 Mass is broadcast on TV). There is also a powerful image of St. Francis receiving the Stigmata. A great visit for the faithful, appreciators of beautiful art, and all things French.

Beautiful place with talented artists and a great amalgam of cultures! Unfortunately no pets are allowed in the park, even though we witnessed children ripping off plants straight from the roots. Regardless if you wanna sight see, and meet with a wide variety of people and cultures I highly recommend!

A must-visit when in New Orleans. The architecture is amazing and something you would see in Italy or Spain. It is also the oldest cathedral in all of the USA! Who knew. Within within walking distance of canal Street and French Quarter. I would have loved to do a tour inside or a mass, but I don't think they offer these during the week

While I am not religious I love visiting the Cathedral whenever I am in New Orleans! The architecture and decor is stunning! As soon as you walk inside there’s a palpable feeling of calmness and peacefulness that washes over you. Having the chance to light candles in honor of people that I have lost or that need healing always makes my heart feel so full. 🖤

A beautiful building and a peaceful, prayerful atmosphere inside. It’s free to go in and look around. There is a lot to see inside, with art, stained glass, sculpture, memorials. It would be good if there was a bit more information around to read and get to know the history a bit better, but I understand that this is primarily a place of worship more than a place for interested tourists. If you want to go in to pray and light a candle, it is a lovely atmosphere to do that as well.

I took a minute to go into this Church on a hot humid day. It is breathtakingly beautiful. I lit a candle and said a prayer. It was a still moment in-between shopping. eating and drinking. Checking out the details of the architecture, stain glass windows and the hand-painted ceilings was great way to cool off and have a little quiet time of holiness.

I went in to see the inside of this intimidating structure. I was so creeped out that returning to visit for mass was the last thing on my mind. I wonder if ghosts are here. The vibe is definitely odd and not warm and inviting like a typical church.

Quite a beautiful cathedral. We were fortunate to be able to visit when a service was not taking place, so we were allowed to walk around, look around and to take photographs. Don't forget to look up, the ceilings are especially impressive. I completely neglected to take pictures of the many stained glass windows adorning the length of the cathedral. My apologies for that. They are nice. The altar area, the shell pulpit, and the artwork on the ceilings were the elements I found to be most noteworthy.

Checking out the details of the architecture, stain glass windows and the hand-painted ceilings was great way to cool off and have a little quiet time of holiness. There's also a well stocked Christian gift shop off the main building, I believe it's in a section of the old nunnery. Such a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter immediately outside its doors. Whole thing was great and definitely worth peaking your head in and looking around. Across the gardens or plaza of the Cathedral is the mighty Mississippi River and the New Orleans Moon Walk observation area which is amazing as well on a full moon. It is not very big compared to European cathedrals and the style is much more modern, so have a look as it is quite different.
