Great little gem of a gym (see what I did there?). Owner is a genuinely nice guy. Great for lifters looking for a short-term gym for some squats, deadlifts, and benching (only one cage and one bench--with safeties--though).

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown on 440 W 57th street for an extended weekend. I had brought with me some gym clothes as I had read there was a "fitness centre" on site at the hotel. Fearing your typical hotel fitness room, I ventured down to the basement where the "fitness centre" is located. To my great joy and amazement, I discovered this fantastic basement gym. This is a serious gym, with all the equipment you need for a good workout. There are plenty of treadmills and ellipticals for the cardio bunnies (I suspect most of those who used them while I was there were hotel guests). There are plenty of dumbbells and a few benches for free weight exercises, plenty of kettlebells, one squat rack, a smith machine, a cable rack, leg press, hack slide, to mention a few. The gym is clean, tidy and although the music played wasn't to my liking (being a metalhead), the volume was low and wasn't a nuisance. I spoke with the morning manager while I was there, and he was very friendly and seemed like a good guy, Highly recommended.

The best fitness center I've ever been outside of my hometown (Vienna). Great atmosphere, great equipment and a great crowd. The owner is really friendly and there is a good atmosphere in a real old school atmosphere, but still with top equipment. I trained there four times during my vacation and was thrilled every time.

Diamond in the rough - Excellent clean gym with everything you need to get in and get out. That includes bench, heavy free weights, squat rack, Stairmaster and more. As a frequent traveler to NYC, this was a tremendous find and I will be back. Thanks for everything.

I was very thorough in going around checking out the various fitness clubs in the midtown/west side area. Once I found this place, it was a no-brainer: all the equipment one could need; a serious atmosphere, but still fun and chill; easily the best price. The overall value earns it 5 stars.

I want to simply say, this is one of the best gyms I have ever had the pleasure using. The owner Eric Slayton, is a pleasure to be around. The personal trainers are actually training and not on there cell phones. And it has nearly all equipment u need. From 1st time visitor to Bodybuilder. My only complaint is I did not know about the gym my previous 50 + visits to NYC. If you are anywhere near Hell's Kitchen. And need a gym to meet your needs, UNDERGROUND FITNESS is the gym for u!!

Great gym! It's the Cheers of gyms - where everybody knows your name. It's not pretentious and never overcrowded. Highly recommended.

One of the best gyms I've ever been too! It has all the equipment you need plus it is in great condition - always clean and organized. Additionally, the owner, Eric, and all personal trainers are very friendly and knowledgeable in the topics of fitness and healthy eating. Definitely recommend this gym to everyone!

Fantastic gym that is stacked with weights and machines. The vibe is amazing and there are lots of very learned trainers that you can work with to transform your body. I highly recommend it!

The instructors are truly exceptional. They are extremely friendly and welcoming: From the day I started, they've called me by name (they even pronounce it correctly). They encourage and challenge people of all fitness levels who are as excited as you. Moreover, they assist switching weights, sanitizing the stations, and correcting your form.

I'd like to recommend this gym to everyone. This is the perfect way to improve your physical and emotional fitness. They'd brought a specialist mentor with them. Excellent for first-timers.

This gym is an absolutely GEM in the heart of NYC. I'm beyond thrilled to have discovered it through a PT client. Great for trainers and workout buffs alike, with ALL the necessary equipment for dynamic workouts (free weights, cardio machines, strength machines, cables, bands, ropes, mats, balls, etc.) for an actually affordable price!! It's almost too good to be true!!

😠 No way! JUST DON'T DO IT! LA Fitness on Eastchester Road is real bad! Equipment is mostly broken, it smells AWFUL inside, way too overcrowded (too many free passes), all the cable attachments are stolen, mens restrooms are FILTHY, They drench the pool with too much chlorine. No, no, no... JUST NOT...

👍👍 It is an amazing stay for people that really just need a bed for the night in the middle of New York. We stayed for a week and first of all the location is unbeatable.
