Refined, renowned small town bistro. Lovely service upon entering. Comfortable, spacious dining area. It was quite busy when we went but we were able to get a table without a reservation. Our server was Shaylee, and she was very attentive and helpful. Had the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the fish tacos, and chicken wrap, which were all good-sized and tasty. The pokebowl was very big and tasted just as anticipated. The chicken Cobb salad with feta was really impressive. The fried chicken breast with a Buffalo style hot sauce added an interesting aspect to a fresh Cobb salad which had plenty of feta and just enough dressing. I couldn't even finish the serving it was so large! Shared the Peanut Butter cup for dessert and that may have been the best part. It was rich but not too sweet. The meal was not inexpensive but didn't seem overpriced when considering the quality and quantity. We had such a pleasant experience that we bought a gift certificate for our friends that day.

This restaurant promises good food but fails to deliver value for money. Our experience was lacklustre, and the portions for starters and apps were laughable. If it weren't for the gift card, we would have been very upset. On the upside, the patio seating was delightful. However, our order of shrimp and Manotick fries left much to be desired. We received only 4 medium shrimp and a handful of fries without dips. Our server then disappeared until it was time for the bill, and although the tenderloin was good, my wife's medium-rare was more medium-well. At least my rare steak was cooked perfectly. The sides with the mains were tasty but, again, sparse. We didn't bother discussing the issues with the server when she did finally appear with the bill as I was thoroughly annoyed by this point.

This bistro was recommended to us by a local at the Watson Mill. We went and were pleased we did. It has great decor and plenty of additional patio seating at the back and side. Reservations are taken, but they keep walk in tables which is nice because the place filled out by 5:30. The menu isn't extensive or too pricey, and should cater to most choices. We were quite pleased with our menu choices, the beer, and the wine list. Shannon, our server, helped to make the experience memorable.

6 of us had a fantastic meal. Great service. Great food. Great atmosphere. Warning, cell service in Manotick isn’t strong. Lamb shank was amazing. Cobb salad fantastic. Fish and chips looked phenomenal.

We’ve dined here many times. Love the many gluten free options and careful preparation. The staff is very helpful with clarifying options for a celiac GF allergy. Amazing dishes and highly recommend

Had the chicken sandwich. So delicious. Atmosphere is the best. Our waitress was amazing. My brother in law had your Thanksgiving turkey dinner. He loved it. Will definitely be back!

My son has very strict dietary requirements and our server had no issue in us ordering random foods off the menu my son could eat. He went and checked the protein content of items I asked for. Was interested in his medical condition but never made us feel like it was a hassle. One of the 1st restaurants we have been too that made us feel comfortable. All staff are friendly. Food was amazing. We 100% will be back

Loved my Cajun crusted salmon and my husband loved his hamburger. Great patio seating. Our server was great and offered suggestions as we had some dietary restrictions and helped us in offering suggestions. Be patient and enjoy the ambience as you wait for your meal. Will definitely visit again when we travel to Ottawa.

This restaurant was a happy surprise for my family and I and I couldn't give less than 5 stars. The food is scrumptious (try the beet salad with goat cheese and fresh greens. It's amazing), the desserts are awesome as well and you can have a perfect espresso by the end of your meal. Now let's talk about the service: Black Dog Bistro's staff is so friendly and attentive that they don't get unnoticed. We didn't know whether we should wait outside or inside but soon someone showed up to bring us inside and designate us a table. After finishing the meal, the person who was serving us was not sure about what desserts were available for the day. So he brought us a freshly printed dessert menu. Everything is very well explained so that you can make up your mind calmly, with zero pressure. Thank you for the amazing service and food you provide the community! We will definitely be back for more!

Shameful. Had a 5pm reservation for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) for my wife's 40th birthday. Outings are few and far between with 2 small children. The restaurant and patio were empty when we arrived. My beer, our appetizer (cauliflower wings) and kids meals arrived on time. One hour passes (from when we ordered our food) before our meals arrived (2 burgers). We had to take it to go as the kids were getting fussy. They still managed to get my meal wrong. Only tipped 5%... For the beer. The beer was good. This had to be the worst dinning experience we've had in over 5 years. It may have been a one off but it was enough to turn us away from this restaurant for good.

We went with a large group for lunch and everyone’s meals were delicious. I had the paella which was new on menu and it had lots of good stuff. We also tried the salmon, wraps and ribs. Wine was reasonable too. Staff was friendly.

The restaurant is very lovely and staff are great and personable. I got the chicken burger and thought it was a bit mid. My friends tried the black dog burger and really enjoyed it, so perhaps that's the better way to go. I thought the chicken burger could have been juicier, crisper, and more flavourful. I did like the toppings that accompanied the burger ! Also got a mocktail which was tasty and refreshing.

My partner and I had dinner here last night for our anniversary and it was hands down one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve ever had in Ottawa. The food was incredible, the service was amazing and the restaurant had such a lively and warm vibe. I ordered the short rib and my partner ordered the lamb. Both dishes were so well balanced and delicious and the portions were surprising large. Our server was so lovely and timed our meal and check ins so well. Overall, just such a wonderful experience and we cannot wait to go back!

I have dined here multiple times over the years and the food and service is consistently top notch. Last night we each had the braised lamb shank and it was incredible. The vegetables were perfect and the lamb shank generous size and cooked to perfection in a sauce that is incredible. The owner Dot greeted us on arrival and the service was very good despite being busy. And despite being very busy the Black Dog manages to cozy relaxing. We will definitely visit more often, this was our first post pandemic visit.

Great service and beautiful place to dine especially later in the evening. Food arrived on time and our server was extremely friendly.I ordered the braised lamb shanks and unfortunately it lacked flavours. My family was happy with the food they’ve ordered. Will definitely revisit to try other items on the menu and for the ambiance.

Celebrated our first year wedding anniversary here tonight and had an amazing experience. Food was great, service was excellent, very reasonable prices for the quality of food. Special shout out to Desean for being a lovely server/human.

There should be 1/2 stars as I'd like to give a 4.5. The black dog is solid. Great food. Great drinks. The only reason I wouldn't give them a 5 would be consistency. Sometimes it's amazing. Sometimes it's good. Not a bad thing to say.

It’s minus 35 outside today so a bowl of tomato soup with bacon and some fries and a big glass of wine is just what I needed this afternoon. Nice atmosphere, lovely service. I’m a happy camper.

Our experience was a very positive experience. For a Wednesday it was very busy. I think it's a spot that is typically always busy,which means good. The food was excellent, as for the most part was the service. The only minor thing would be our plates sat in front of us when we were finishing too long . Other experiences here have been excellent. Would recommend.

First things first....the service here was top notch...especially from our server Megan!! Very nice atmosphere like everyone says....great for a family dinner or date night 😁. Now on to the food....we had the beef tartar which was good but could've used a bit more seasoning, calamari was good but we should've asked for the sauce on the side so our bad. The Brie was huge...wasn't expecting that so good surprise. The lamb shank was also a very big portion so bring your appetite but like the tartar, could've used just a tad more seasoning. Overall, this was a great experience and we will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu. Enjoy 😁

My fiance and I have been to Black Dog many times and we don't plan to stop anytime soon. They have a warm and inviting atmosphere that's great for families or date nights. The food is portioned well and leaves you contemplating your next visit. All in all, it's the one of best places you can eat in Manotick.

Adorable and delicious just scratches the surface (or should I say gives a good belly rub?) for the Black Dog. Super variety in terms of vegan, meat, gluten free options and if you want a beverage, there’s a great selection or they’ll whip you up a virgin version! It’s clear how much love has gone into this place, with lots of the costumers pooches displayed all over. Can’t recommend this place enough!

One of the best spots in Manotick forsure. Overall experience is usually good, they are busy so things are really slow. They make classic dishes really well but more adventurous or ethnic stuff is pretty plain in flavor. Make sure to call ahead to reserve a table

Everything we had was amazing! The prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere was outstanding. We will be going back often. We had reservations and we were there before the rush, but staff was well prepared for the evening and the kitchen was quick. We have added this to our list of favourite places to eat.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff even when super busy. I ordered the Salmon burger and the pad Thai. Pad Thai was excellent, lots of taste to it. The salmon burger was good but the bun became soggy very quick, making the burger very messy... maybe a thicker bun would work better. Altogether a 5 stars experience.

My husband and I recently had lunch on the patio and were served by Audrey who was an excellent server, warm, knowledgable, funny and attentive. Audrey informed us that she is retiring from the restaurant biz to enjoy her hot tub and pool after 12 years at Black Dog. We were privileged to have caught her on her last days there. Enjoy your leisure time, Audrey! For those of you thinking of checking this gem of a place out, never fear, the rest of the staff is excellent and the food is consistently yummy ;)

We went here for dinner tonight and it was wonderful! Our server Jackson was very friendly, attentive, and considerate. The burger was well-seasoned and peppery. My boyfriend really enjoyed his lamb shank... cooked perfectly with flavourful fingerling potatoes on the side. Service was quick too and we were seated immediately. Definitely will be back!

This is easily one of my favourite restaurants in all of the greater Ottawa area. The food is ALWAYS A+, I haven't encountered a bad meal yet. There are other places charging way more for food not nearly as tasty! Staff is wonderful, dogs welcome 🐕 (on the patio at least)! Plus, Manotick is such a great little town to spend some time in. Go go go!
