Went on a Sunday I believe with our daughter to see some animals, we always wanted a dog but we both agreed that we don't have time for one. As we walked out a men with a cage and his son in the other arm came through the front door asking where he could drop off his unwanted pet. The lady told him to go a door over of the building and my gf was astounded nd followed him. After 2min she came back and asked me if we could adopt a cat and I told her it's up to her, long story short meet lily our newest addition to the family super loving super cuddly!!!

Took in a pregnant stray cat in who showed up desperate at my door. She gave birth to the kittens and I tended to them for weeks until they became too much so brought them to “Humane Society” to be adopted out with the exception of mom and 1 kitten who we requested back. They forced us to surrender them and tested mom who was FLV+. Without telling us they euthanized all the kittens without even testing them for FLV (even though statistically half would have been completely healthy). They were on the verge of euthanizing mom and I had to fight tooth and nail to save mom from death sentence. They told me she’d be dead in 6 months but finally let me adopt essentially my own cat. She recently passed away at 10 years after 8 great years with her. Was a wonderful cat that they would have euthanized as they did her babies. Recently visited to see their cats against my better judgement. Totally unclear what is available for adoption and what isn’t. We looked at cats we liked who had already been adopted with no notification of such. Seems to be all about them now and not the animals. Stood waiting at the front desk for the three staff to bother to acknowledge my presence as they were all simultaneously “busy” and did the “pretend not to see you tactic”. In case you’re wondering this is NOT a no kill shelter and they will kill potentially healthy animals rather than do a simple blood test on them. They’ve completely changed and not for the better. Last time I ever go there. Donate your money somewhere else.

My 13 year old black lab Thai, was taken from my home by another tenant in the building. He went willingly, because he is a friendly, and gregarious dog, and loves an adventure. The dog napper soon tired of the situation, and left Thai to his own devices. He was , fortunately picked up by bylaw and taken to the Humane Society. Again, fortunately, he had been micro chipped, and they called me to pick him up. He was very well treated, given a medical exam, and even some shots, that we had missed due to lockdown. The humain society are fabulous!

We’re fortunate to have services like the Ottawa Humane Society. Unwanted pets and rescue animals etc need out help sometimes. It’s understandable why people can’t afford to keep their pets anymore. There could be many reasons why. Bringing them to the humane society is the best step if there aren’t any other options. We needed to sadly let go of a couple of rescue cats because it wasn’t feasible. The society was helpful and courteous and took them in. I’m sure they will find a good home. Thank you. 👍☺️

Really beautiful place, very large. Would love to see more of the space used for animals in need. When we went there wasnt many, a lot of birds. I understand there is a lot more happening behind the scenes though. Thanks guys for being so caring for the animals. Would like to suggest as I noticed someone cleaning the small animals in the front which was super cool area maybe to try and litter train the rabbits and guinea pigs. Give them a few day trial with a litter pan and put their food in it or beside it (like suppppper close) as rabbits poop where they eat constantly. You guys will save a lot shavings ...like a lot. A lot of adopters like to have that additional info. Very tidy place. Cute store with all your needs. Love the cool cat tree and rooms.

There are two things, that are very close to my heart. Are children and animals, they are so innocent. I have been a,supporter of the Ottawa Humane society. For many years and, when I pass they are in my will. That goes for, Cheo as well like I said. Kids and animals, nothing more innocent in the world. This is noodles,he is thirteen and my Fur Baby.

The building is very nice and modern looking. We went there hoping to adopt a dog, but we were not allowed to meet any of them in person. This not like any of the animal adoption agencies we have dealt with in the past. It was very disappointing and discouraging. We won't be going back.

I found my best friend here. The staff were all very helpful and answered all my questions. The way the staff takes care of each little critter is with love and care. I can’t thank them enough.

I had my daughter's 7th birthday party here - a great way to give back to the animals and have a furry fun time!! Our host, Eve, was great - we started with a craft, followed by a tour of the wonderful and clean OHS facility, some cuddle time with some small animals, and food and fun in the decorated party room. I loved that I had access to a small kitchenette with a fridge, and I was able to bring my own food/drinks/cake. We loved the option to have a donation page created for our event and my daughter was thrilled to be able to raise over $100 for the organization! The only downfall was the lack of recycling bins - we had to, unfortunately, put everything in the garbage.

We had a great experience adopting our 13 week old kitten, Merlin. The staff were very kind and knowledgeable. It’s so convenient to get a pet that’s fixed and has all its shots. Ours needed one more shot and we got a coupon for a free consult at a local vet so we’ll take him there for the consult and shot.

The facility is excellent. The staff are likewise just top notch. This is certainly one of my favorite places... compassionate and just plain good. Highly recommend you get your next pet here, they take great care of the animals, you really couldn't ask for better... I'm truly impressed and delighted to have met these people and have adopted a pet from them. Stellar!

Well, let me tell you about my experience. OUR beloved Marcus passed away suddenly at 7:30 a.m., January 3rd,2024. He was born in Montreal on the 18th of September 2019. The Humane Society of Ottawa received Marcus with dignity and respect and, myself being of low income waived the $30 fee, which I offered to pay at the end of January when I receive my monthly stipend. Marcus came to live with Boris and I when he was 10 weeks old. Boris was born November 1st, 2018 also in Montreal. So, the gesture and considerations I received from the Humane Society of Ottawa were very much appreciated, giving myself and Boris one less thing to worry about while we grieved the passing of our dear Marcus. So, I beg you with all the love that I have in me, please lend your support in whatever way possible to the Humane Society of Ottawa. Thank you. PS, that's Marcus and myself.

The building is really nice, all animals seem to have good spaces to roam. We got a lovely little kitty from here and we were able to pet her and get to know her quite well before deciding to adopt her.

I purchased my cat and my dog or adopted from the Ottawa Humane Society. The experience was fantastic. The environment was peaceful inviting they even gave me food when I left with the animals and called to check on them so I would highly recommend anyone visiting the Ottawa Humane Society either to donate their time to walk with the animals dogs or to donate food or what other resources they require

We only look for our pets here...cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, hamsters, guinea pigs. Glad to see there were not many to choose from! Lots of empty kennels and in this case, that's a good thing!

I’ve been coming here to visit Mr. Gerald the cat. The staff are super friendly and helpful with any questions you might have. Don’t be hesitant to ask! Even if you are not stopping by to adopt, the animals love having company as well.

2 cats delivered by us when their owner went to hospital for an extended period. Staff at the Humane Society repeatedly asked if an appointment was made. We had no paperwork that was requested so we filled out information to the best of our knowledge. We were just the delivery responding to a request for transport.

  • 1/5 Gabrielle Ann O. 5 months ago on Google
This place is not very humane. You have to have an appointment now to drop off a stray. We went in with a stray cat, they were rude, disrespectful, and did not have the cats best interest at heart. We were unable to leave the cat as we didn't feel they cared, at all. They wouldn't just do a chip check. Luckily we were able to find the cats home. All the lost binders are full of pages from 2019+2020. There was no way to access their computer resources there. It was very disappointing. They are a kill shelter.

Brought a foster cat in for Dental work. Staff were lovely as always. Now Kitty's sister is really wondering where he's gone. Hopefully he'll be back in a day or two.

The ottawa humane society let someone with a mental health crisis give the cat I owned for adoption and wont return him. Furthermore they have been deleting my reviews. Please understand I just want to see my cat and I am not being allowed to. I hope this issue can be resolved and they do what they said they would

I cannot describe just how hard these people work to help Ottawa's lost and abused animals. Not only the lost and abused but also animals who's owners have been injured, or have passed. Thank you to all the staff for all they do.

Sadly, While i wanted to give a great review .. i simply cannot. firstly, i went super early on a sunday to the lost and found centre. there was only one woman before me in line dropping off a found cat. once it became my turn the lady at the front desk rolled her eyes & tells me “she has the lady infront of me to help and i quote said : “can you return tomorrow?” sounds like somebody doesnt want to do their job. i said no i cannot. I work and had my toddler son with me also. this is not how u should be treating people trying to help homeless animals. anyway. i didnt listen and i dropped off a rescue conure my husband and i were fostering after we rescued him for over 6 months. gave all info asked of me and filled in all forms.. a day after dropping kiwi off i meet a very sweet woman who told me she desperately wanted to adopt this bird. her and i called the humane society about 35+ times only a few days after dropping him off. we were repeatedly told he was having vet & behavioral checks and that there was no “guarantee” he would be put up for adoption. we called and called and called and made IT VERY CLEAR that this lady is waiting for him to be available. we check the website daily and only a week had gone by sincr was dropped off. i check the site today and he is magically posted online yet already says “adoption pending” HOW was this bird given to someone else when this lady & i repeatedly made it clear she wanted him. i feel lied to, betrayed and treated unfairly as the person who brought this bird in. just horrendous. not only this but it takes 30 tries to get people to respond to emails or phone calls. hire better staff and DO better. smh

Lovely place, it feels like they've built up since the last time I went, you can no longer enter the cat rooms however and need to request to view (maybe a covid measure?). Great and empathetic staff/volunteers
