There is a true magic about HaiSous. 100/10 recommend Food: stunningly flavorful. The vegetarian curry was packed full of flavor. The rice noodles and salmon were light and a perfect compliment. And the wings are a show stopper Cocktails: it's the pants on fire for me. Crisp cucumber with subtle heat. Staff: attentive, fast, shared great recommendations. Hattip to the GM who we could see expediting the great experience for a full restaurant

Tasty tasty tasty seafood! I loved the fried fish and the oysters. The fried fish is super well prepared and seasoned and comes with lettuce and great sauces. That was the highlight. And the cream puff dessert was good albeit a bit heavy. The food comes very quickly. Staff is super friendly and shoutout to David, a great server. Happy to return to HaiSous anytime.

I am gonna be coming to this place for sure. For someone who’s partner is Vietnamese I don’t often venture out of trying non traditional Vietnamese restaurants because they are either super toned down in flavors to match the western pallet. However this place has blown me and my friends away from their service to the punch flavors of their dishes. We ordered the grilled seafood platter, chicken wings and the meat platter. This was plenty of food for three person. The sauces that the meat and seafood is paired with elevates the flavor of the protein. I wouldn’t say the dishes we ordered were any kind of fusion but it was still very traditional Vietnamese dishes presented well. I would come again to this restaurant and try their drinks and other dishes next time. Thanks for changing my perspective on Vietnamese fine dining here in the U.S.

Came here for 2021 restaurant week and went with the pre-fixe menu and added wings. The staff were so friendly, starting with the host all the way to every single server we encountered. The food was demure and delicious! For someone transitioning out from mostly eating at home, dining out can be like a mallet to the palette, but the dishes at HaiSous were subtly seasoned in the most delicious and complex way. The wings were amazing, as well as the extra crispy bed of fries they came on and the papaya salad & eggplant dish were... out of this world good. Not to mention the ambience is aesthetically pleasing and interesting in an understated way. Such an amazing back to dining out experience!

Tasty, authentic, and delicious. The location is a bit out of the way from the crowds and is well worth a journey to reach this well crafted restaurant. The drinks are well made and innovative. The chicken wings were crispy and strongly flavored. The papaya salad was crisp and packed a punch. The bun cha broth was amazing and the pork was tender. The biggest surprise was the vegetarian curry with daikon and bamboo which had much more flavor than expected.

Been here twice now. My first experience was superb, loved the interior and food was amazing. Maybe because my second experience was not as good I was not as delighted by the food as well. I had made a reservation but asked if it was okay to come half an hour early. They said the maximum they could do is 10 minutes early. I agreed to this but parking took longer than expected so I arrived at the original time for the reservation. The hostess said that she had already given our table away because we missed the “grace period”. We ended up getting a seat at the bar but because it was right jn front of the entrance it felt overcrowded and busy, disrupting the dining experience. Not sure if this overall experience was worth $100 excluding tax and gratuity. The drinks and dessert was phenomenal. Definitely recommend trying the ones in the pictures.

I found this lovely restaurant searching for Vietnamese food. I fell in love with this amazing cuisine during a trip to Vietnam, and I’m constantly looking for it in every city I visit. Well, HaiSous didn’t disappoint! If you want something traditional, it might not be your first choice, but if you want to experience a more elevated take on Vietnamese cuisine, then you must give them a try. Though they have some traditional dishes such as Bun Cha, Whole fried fish and Vietnamese Curry, the Chef also brings the amazing flavors to items like grilled oysters, octopus and steak. There is also a very unique and cost effective tasting menu which showcases a few of the menus most popular dishes and a nice selection of flavorful grilled seafood. Oh, and did I mention they have great cocktails?! Definitely worth a visit!

We had a lovely experience with attentive service and tasty menu options. The eggplant preparation is one of the most delicious ones I had in awhile. We will be back!

HaiSous has one of the more affordable prix-fixe tasting menus in Chicago at $68/pp for 3 courses (8 dishes) without any beverage pairing (though I think it’s $70 now). The menu rotates seasonally. My partner and I went on a Sunday night with a reservation and it wasn’t very crowded. The ambience was elegant, but not overly fancy. The service was quick and friendly, and each of the dishes came very quickly. Overall, the sauces in each of the dishes really stood out to me— they were simultaneously strong and delicate in flavor and made the dishes pop out. The first “for fun” course came with banana blossom salad, pork sausage summer rolls, and Arctic Char crudo. The summer rolls weren’t too impressive and I’ve definitely had better ones at restaurants in Argyle, but the other 2 dishes were fantastic. The crudo tasted light and fresh, and paired well with the fish sauce flavor and garnishes. The banana blossom salad was my favorite, with tons of unique flavors and textures, both crunchy and chewy. The main course came with a braised beef dish, roasted sea bass, Chinese broccoli, and rice. The braised beef was incredibly tender and flavorful, especially when marinated in the savory broth. The Chinese broccoli was cooked to a perfect softness and topped with fried garlic pieces that added a nice crunch and flavor. The sea bass was also good— it could have been more tender, but the tomato sauce it came in was delicious. The dessert was a Banana Cookie Crust Cream Puff, which was pretty good and not too sweet. Overall, it was a fun and pleasant experience, and it was a good amount of food for 2 people too! — Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4.8/5 Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.8/5

Haisous Vietnamese Kitchen is a charming restaurant in downtown Chicago which serves authentic Vietnamese food. The place is run by husband and wife Chef Thai and Danielle Dang, It is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the US which explains the Michelin award it got under its belt. Parking can be a problem. But when food is this great, you wouldn't mind spending minutes going around the block looking for parking slot.

Service was good but the food itself was not that good. My family and I, 4 Vietnamese Americans that own a Vietnamese restaurant on the eat coast, were extremely excited to try a high end Vietnamese food. We ended up not choosing the tasting menu and instead chose our individual entrees. Curry, Eggplant, ribeye, Bun Cha, Crab Noodles, whole fried fish. It was extremely disappointing to see vietnamese cuisine presented in this way. The fish sauce was very mild and not as it should be. It was weak in flavor. The vermicelli noodles of the bun Cha were way too hard and undercooked. The curry was clearly not vietnamese curry much different in flavor, color, and texture. The ribeye had about 8 small pieces. Lastly the Vietnamese coffee was chocolatey and not sweet at all. Vietnamese coffee is traditionally much richer, sweeter, and stronger! Overall the food was massively disappointing but it was acceptable by the experience and the service.

Pleasantly surprised by HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen and their menu. I did not expect this type of service in Pilsen. We enjoyed Happy Hour at our table... Drink and app specials are 4-6 pm and had the opportunity to try a bunch of dishes before dining into the main menu. Papaya salad, Crispy Chicken Wings, octopus salad and grilled eggplant are to die for. Accompanied by the Fig Spritz and Old Fashioned really sets a nice balance of sweet flavors with salt and spicy food. I do highly recommend the Grilled Meat platter to share amongst 3-4 people with a great mixture of meats and sausages. The pace of the courses are well planned, just a bit hard to wrap up and get the bill. I would recommend coming early and avoiding weekends as the area is difficult to find parking. otherwise high marks for HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen.

Their food is amazing!! One of the best Vietnamese restaurant in Chicago. Coconut Curry was tasted very fresh. Chicken wings were crispy on the outside and tender inside. Very thin batter so you can taste a more of the chicken. The HoChiMin Lager was good as well!! Very impressive food! We were out of luck as they were out of the whole trout. Definitely will be back for it in the near future.

It had been about four years since I been here and I’m once again blown away. Our server was a gem and the space is gorgeous and serene. The seafood tower was mind blowing! Everything tasted so fresh. And i continue to be a fan of their Mezcal cocktails. A Michelin star well earned. Keep up the amazing job.

We went here for restaurant week, and it was a wonderful choice. The service was top-tier, and the ambience was very welcoming and warm. The prefixed food menu was delicious and more than enough as a family style meal. Will definitely come back again to try other things on the menu.

Found this restaurant from the Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand restaurant. Meaning it a good quality, good value cooking restaurant. It is a bit on the pricey end, but you get what you pay for. The service was great. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. They gave good recommendations and accommodating to our party's dietary restrictions. The Vietnamese vegetable curry was sooooo good. There wasn't enough rice to eat with it. Creamy and flavorful. The chicken wings were also pretty good, nice starter to share with the table. Definitely worth trying. As I was leaving, saw another table eating a fish that looked good. I'll be back to try the other things on the menu.

I would be very surprised if this place doesn’t get a michelin star at some point. Even though they were sold out of the tasting menu (apparently you need to go on thursday since they run out of ingredients, in any case call ahead) the a la carte was just sublime. Everything was inventive, flavorful, and just plain delicious. My favorite was the octopus salad with eggplant. I’ve never had eggplant in such a wonderful way. Service was fairly average for a nicer place but plenty fine. Definitely a step above, worth a detour and not too expensive for an occasion.

Have been here a couple times, this time I tried the tasting menu. Unexpectedly, each dish is big portion. We even ended up with food to go. If you have a big party, it is served as family style. Definitely recommend people to try out the tasting menu, it is so worth it.

It was such a beautiful and lovely experience, the staff was extremely Friendly and amazing hosts! The food was extraordinary with little to no wait once ordered! Everything we tried had vibrant flavors that complimented eachother, the kitchen does an excellent job at making it look easy when we know how hard they work to perfect everyone's food ! 200/10 would come again

Second time coming here & second time getting the curry + chicken wings. Would come here every time for them. The grilled ribeye ($22) was so tender and marinated very well, portion size was just small. Colossal prawn and crab dish was delicious. The seafood swims inside a creamy, garlic sauce but they give you a side of horseradish(??) With a strong flavor to cut through the fatty cream sauce.

Stopped in for restaurant week food and staff were amazing. Definitely worth checking out. We got both menus and both were just as delicious. Overall a great date night experience worth giving a try.

We were there Friday evening, Vibes are good ,we had a server that had an accent come to find out she is French, I know this because I was trying to pronounced the dishes correctly and she had no idea,it was hard to understand her and to hear her as the restaurant was very loud, We order the calamari, was great! Light crunchy and lightly breaded, the rest of of the dishes were quite a disappointment, there was nothing elevated, very basic and quite honest for the price not worth it. Yeah...I really wish the food had more flavor.

I would say it is a decent creative Vietnamese restaurant. The meals mostly served with ambient temperature which made you thought they cooked them even before I ordered them. The flavor was really nice, the curry, the rib eye, the rice noodles, the salad, and the fried rice. All of the meals were great, but none of them reminded me that I was at a Vietnamese restaurant. That was the reason that I took 1 star away. This restaurant also got a Bib Gourmand. But actually you might need to spend around 40-50/person

What an amazing experience at HaiSous! We enjoyed the tasting menu which takes you on an adventure exploring Vietnamese cuisine that is so new, exciting, and thoughtful! The service is top notch, and the time the staff and Chef take to really tell the story behind the dishes makes you feel like you are right there in Vietnam while enjoying your meal. There is so much passion and soul behind every dish, really creating such a wonderful dining experience. As a dessert person, you can't forget dessert to really complete the whole experience! The whipped banana cream with toasted banana cracker was so good! Amazing job and my compliments to Chef Thai, Danielle, and the entire HaiSous team!

I lived in Pilsen many years ago and am very happy to see a place like HaiSous is thriving there. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. Every course was delicious and we loved the stories behind the food told by the chef and the servers. The wine was delicious and matched the food perfectly. In all it was a great meal, delicious wine and wonderful service.

Overall a good dining experience. Very friendly service, very modern and clean design with ample space. We opted to just order different dishes vs the tasting menu. Overall the food was good. Nice taste and nothing was bad…but nothing was amazing. Signature chicken wings were a bit dry, the curry was a little bland, etc. it’s a great place to bring a date, entertain out of town guests or bring people you want to impress. But if I want more “authentic” Vietnamese food I would go to Argyle…which still has its shortcoming vs eating in Vietnam but it’s much closer.

We tried the chef tasting menu! However it is odd everything comes out in one set. All the tasting menu we have tried before, each person gets their own set of tasting courses. So we ended up sharing. The halibut and the mushroom was great! Especially the egg custard coffee was bomb! Service was great and the restaurant is cute! The coconut curry halibut and the wild mushroom was amazing! Overall good food, it is similar to other french viet cuisine in chicago

Been wanting to try HaiSous for a while now and glad I went. Already planning to go back and their their seafood tower! Have their Vietnamese/Chinese tasting menu and loved everything. Service was awesome and everything was seasoned perfectly.

We came here two nights in a row because we're such huge fans! The menu is seasonal (some dishes remain always) and we pretty much worked our way through the entire Spring 2022 menu. The Bun Cha broth is incredible and they work magic with those black peppercorns in the meatballs, giving them a nice crunch without being overwhelming. The marinated ribeye and eggplant dishes were both impressively tender and very enjoyable. Generally, the flavor combos were next level on almost every dish and their sauces shined. Whatever that susce with the eggplant dish was, I'd freaking drink it! The yellow curry and 16 oz. ribeye were both memorable dishes I could just keep on eating. If I had to nitpick anything, the grilled octopus and morning glory (greens) were just okay, with subtle flavors that were overshadowed by everything else. To end things off, the sesame in that rice pudding is a game changer! It's such a light dish, even if you're full, you can have a bowl of dessert. HaiSous has top-notch service and food!

I mean...I guess I could see why people Ike it, but it's not as good as they say. My group all shared the grand tasting menu. it was neither Vietnamese nor Japanese... just some elements from either. Only 2 of of the 7 dishes I liked. For a total of $250 for 3 people, that's pretty disappointing. The matcha mousse is good though!

If you are looking to try something different, I strongly encourage you to make your way to 18th and Carpenter. I received a warm welcome as soon as I entered the restaurant. We sat at a table near the open kitchen. Neidy is professional and provided service with a smile as she guided us through the dining experience. She also shared the story behind the name of the restaurant. We started with the famous crispy chicken wings and papaya salad. Be prepared to taste the fish sauce on your chicken wings. I enjoyed both dishes. If you are accustomed to well-crafted cocktails, you will not be disappointed by the Japanese-inspired old-fashioned. For the entree, I enjoyed the fire-roasted chicken, and I tried the fried whole fluke. When it was time to flip the fluke, Neidy helped. For dessert, we ordered the waffles and finished off the night with a specialty coffee. Check the website for hours. My reservation was for 5:00PM. By the time we left, the restaurant was near capacity. I highly recommend HaiSous, and I am looking forward to trying other items on the menu.

We had the French inspired course and it was excellent. Far exceeded expectations. Very professional, yet friendly service too. Try their egg custard coffee—you won’t regret!

Very nice dining experience. We had great time. The atmosphere was great. You can observe the kitchen and the service is good. The meal was delicious. Unfortunately we missed fish, but we tried wings, ribeye, octopus and vegetable curry. All were enough for three people. Parking is a bit problem in the neighborhood you should come early to be at the restaurant on time after parking.
