My wife and I had a wonderful unplanned dinner here. We stopped for a drink and appetizer but the menu and atmosphere was so inviting we stayed for the full meal and we're happy we did. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Our server Denise knew the menu back and forth and recommended a great mix. All of the selections were delicious but the shrimp moqueca with the rice based grits and sauce were incredible. And the chocolate desert with candied hibiscus flowers was amazing. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. During our dinner we spoke with the owner who shared the story of the restaurant and the chef who was very passionate about the menu. Definitely stop in for a drink and appetizer and don't be surprised if you keep ordering through dessert!

Best meal Ive had in a long time. The food was unbelievable. The service was fabulous- the owner and manger checked on us and gave us recommendations. Highly recommend the whipped goat cheese, the watermelon salad, and the ribs. Also the cocktails were fire. Will definitely be returning for more.

It is an absolutely beautiful restaurant in an old house in Downtown phoenix. The ambience is perfect warm but cozy, awesome music, and spectacular food. I did not want to stop eating . The food tastes and textures were spot on. Bravo LATHA, Bravo.

We happened upon this restaurant by chance and so glad we did! The host greeted us with a warm welcoming smile and gave us menus to browse and invited us in like we were long lost family. We were looking for cocktails and small bites so we chose to sit out in the patio space on two of those big comfy egg chairs. Our server greeted us with the same enthusiasm as the host and offered amazing suggestions for cocktails and the Watermelon & Avocado salad that we loved. We also had the Pimento Cheese with Coconut Bread, both of which were heavenly. The evening was only made more perfect with the live band that was playing on the porch and the rest of the amazing staff who took great care of us. I highly recommend this little gem and wish I had found them sooner in my trip so I could have tried everything on the menu.

Latha is Pan African restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona that serves African, Caribbean, and Southern US cuisine. We had the pleasure of dining there today and was blown away by the food, service, and atmosphere. We started with the Peri Peri wings, which were perfectly cooked and had a delicious, flavorful sauce. The wings are made with a blend of African spices that gives them a unique and flavorful taste. Then we had the steak which was grilled to perfection and is served with a delicious chimichurri sauce. The meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. Then we followed up with shrimp and grits, with the shrimp being perfectly cooked and flavorful. They are made with creamy grits and perfectly cooked shrimp. The dish is topped with a delicious gravy. The service at Latha was superb. The host was great and gave us a couple recommendations. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and she made sure we had everything we needed. She also gave us great recommendations, which we followed and were not disappointed with. The atmosphere at Latha is eclectic and inviting. The restaurant is decorated with African art and artifacts, and the walls are covered in vibrant paintings. The lighting is dim and romantic, creating a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Latha. The food was delicious, the service was superb, and the atmosphere was inviting. The drinks were I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and memorable dining experience. I highly recommend Latha to anyone looking for a delicious and unique dining experience in downtown Phoenix!

This place was phenomenal! I was a little nervous, not knowing what to expect, but the service received about the restaurant name (means Flavor). The location as to where the food comes from had us blown away!! The fusion of African, Caribbean, and Southern flavors was a dance party in my mouth. For apps: the piri piri wings were very tasty... but the whipped goat cheese Yumm Yumm, that's my forever favorite. Entrées: We order oxtail, charred broccolini, shrimp w rice grits- amazing. Drinks: Rum Punch was Purple ..it was very tasty along with their choices of cabernet. Dessert- The pound cake is a must. 10/10. I will definitely be back!

I came with a large group to Latha to celebrate and it was absolutely amazing! We tried the peri peri wings, the whipped goat cheese appetizer, the shrimp moqueca, joumou, camallo, and the chapati (and that's just out of the appetizers alone!) Every single bite I took tonight was outstanding - but I highly recommend the shrimp moqueca and the pork chop! The desserts were all BEAUTIFUL, but the pound cake with date jam was the best. The atmosphere with the live music and the service was the cherry on top! 1000/10 recommend!

The food is extremely delicious here. They bring flavors from all over the world into well thought out meals. The broccolini is so tasteful. I highly recommend for anyone in the Phoenix metropolitan area.

We had an amazing time at LATHA. The food was unique and sooo delicious! The service was fast and super friendly. It was busy but someone was still always there refilling my water glass. The atmosphere was really fun. There’s a small gift shop in the back and there was a live singer the night we went. She was amazing and the volume was just right. I highly recommend trying thid place and if you want to go on a weekend night, make a reservation!

The best meal I've had in Phoenix so far! Came here on a Sunday for brunch after the historical home tour next door. The best part is the incredible flavor combinations with fresh ingredients that make for such a pleasant meal experience. Also the portions weren't overly huge so everyone in the party finished their meal with the perfect amount of satisfaction. Everything we ordered was just incredible and well balanced, would definitely love to come back to try their dinner menu!

If you haven’t tried Latha yet, it’s time! Located in downtown Phoenix in Heritage Square this charming, contemporary pan African restaurant and bar is even equipped with a store featuring ingredients, textiles, body care and jewelry. From the moment you walk up to the welcoming host stand on the large patio, you feel the warmth and comfort from the staff. Enjoy a drink at the bar while you wait for your reservation. Sip on your choice of mostly rum or bourbon cocktails (others are served as well), wine or beer. Of course, the bartender will also create a concoction of your choice called a Nishange. We ordered the following food: 🔸Fava Bean Hummus 🔸Piri Piri Wings 🔸Watermelon & Avocado Salad 🔸Salad Palmiste 🔸Latha Burger 🔸AZ Wild Shrimp Co Moqueca 🔸Jerk Pork Chop Every dish we ate was absolutely phenomenal. Full of vibrant flavors and and seasonings that are not incorporated in your day to day cuisine. All of which will leave you craving for more! Thank you @lathaphx for a wonderful experience, exceptional food and amazing service!

Such a wonderful spot to have dinner. We booked a private dinner and received the best service service. Delicious drinks and tasty food. They had a wonderful singer performing on Saturday night. I can’t wait to go back!

The atmosphere and entertainment are everything! The shop inside has some amazing things. I definitely bought a couple things while waiting for the rest of my party to show. My only complaint would be the service. While the servers are very friendly and kind, half my table hadn't received their meals after waiting an hour. It also took some time to get plastic containers for certain items for our to-go boxes. Other than we had a ball. Amazing place to spend time with friends.

Overall impression: Food was delicious, atmosphere was unique, service and execution were very poor. I came for Sunday brunch with my partner and family. We were excited to try upscale African cuisine in Phoenix, but the experience fell short. I'll divide the review into good and bad parts: Good: 1. Flavor and presentation of (most) the food was on point 2. Unique and fun ambiance for downtown Phoenix 3. Woman running the shop inside was very friendly and welcoming. She gave my uncle a birthday bracelet from her shop, which was very sweet. Bad: 1. Reserved an inside table online they day before. While checking in early, was told there were none available. We agreed to sit outside in the heat under misters and was told by waitress they will take us inside once a table opened up. We were there for almost 2 hours. They never brought us in. 2. Uncle ordered Hypha Mushroom Criolo. Asparagus was substituted in the dish without anyone informing us beforehand. Luckily my uncle likes asparagus, but what if he didn't or was allergic? There also looked like nuts in the dish which was also not mentioned on the menu. Any substitutions should definitely be discussed by staff before a guest orders it. 3. We ordered Whipped Goat Cheese appetizer that comes with chapati bread. The inside of the bread was very cold. They possibly refrigerate the pre-baked bread then heat it up with each dish, but did a poor job. We asked for new bread. Instead, they reheated our partially eaten one and brought it back. Additionally, we were charged for an additional order of chapati bread on our bill when in fact they brought us back the SAME partially eaten bread. 4. Hypha Mushroom dish was supposed to come with its own chapati bread per the menu. They never brought the bread. 5. Upon sitting down waitress offered us sparkling or still water. We ordered still, guessing that meant free tap water. We found out on our bill later we were charged $5 per bottle of water. I find this a bit shady as we were never offered the option of tap water. The same thing happened to the table next to us and they complained to the manager. 6. The waitress kept bringing silverware, plates, and cups, etc in multiples of 3 when there were 4 of us. We had to keep reminding her. Thank god she only brought 3 bottles of water or we would have been charged another $5 for the fourth. This restaurant has promise with the flavor of the food and ambiance, but the training of staff and execution of getting the food from kitchen to table accurately needs serious work. Hopefully, they make these changes. Until then, we won't be going back.

Latha did NOT disappoint! I spent some time studying the menu beforehand to see what I wanted and honestly EVERYTHING sounded amazing. Choosing my entrée was the only frustrating part about my experience lol. The customer service was phenomenal! The owner, the chef and the staff went above and beyond to make sure that my family and I had a great experience. They educated us about all the different flavors on the menu, provided great recommendations and constantly checked on us to make sure that we were enjoying ourselves. The patio is extremely beautiful and you can tell that there was a lot of thought put into the decor to really capture of essence of the African diaspora. There are plenty of outdoor misters so it was very comfortable despite the 90 degree heat. For appetizers, we tried the pimento cheese with coconut bread and it was so addicting! 10/10 - It is a must-try. I had the shrimp moqueca and it was soooo good!!! The flavors were amazing and it was the perfect portion size so I didn't feel full afterwards. The food is high-quality and you can tell that it's made with love. For dessert, I had the Amarula cheese torte and it's reminiscent of cheesecake, but more flavorful - super good! After dinner, we went to the Soko store indoors to buy some goodies and I bought a few bars of the jasmine and orange blossom soap and it smells heavenly! Make sure you stop by before you leave because they have a lot of cultural items in there from local businesses. I cannot say enough great things about my experience, but Latha is a MUST-TRY! You will leave feeling like family! Can't wait to come back.

I don't review many places, but this place was truly special. The chef Miranda provided a truly tailored experience, and the Maitre D, Evelia, made sure we had everything we needed to have a special night. The atmosphere is similar to that of Sotise, the French restaurant in downtown Phoenix. With it's "restaurant in a home" feel, it's easy to get cozy. Make no mistake however, the Oxtails were AMAZING, and the Pork chop was the most tender we've ever had. This is a new place but it's clear that there are some heavy hitters in the kitchen, and some real masters of service up front. We'll be back for sure.

I was surprised that Phoenix was much more desolate than expected, but then again, I was surprised that the restaurant was much better than expected. It seemed to be quite authentic with an African food concept. It wasn’t a place to go with a baby (they don't have high chairs)... but overall, I was very satisfied.

This was definitely an amazing experience. The food was unique, delicious and well presented. The bartender also makes specialty drinks. I just gave her my favorite base and told her to surprise me. It was a wonderful surprise. The music was non evasive yet trendy and joyful. The customer service was five star. If you haven’t had this experience then go. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Great place for a special date

Latha has an incredibly welcoming, warm atmosphere. Both times I went, founder Evelia was hosting at the front of the porch with the warmest energy. The Latha team also carry the same energy - you feel like you're hanging out at a friend's house! There was live music on the outside porch the evening I went; such a great relaxed vibe. As for the food - I've had the goat cheese app (amazing to share!), the jerk porkchop (so tender, and loved the accompanying vegetable selection), and the chocolate brigadeiro dessert (surprisingly thick; chocolate with the dried sorrel fruit was a lovely combo). I hope this restaurant does well and continues to serve DT Phoenix! The food is amazing and different from the usual selections in the area, and the welcoming atmosphere is something I do not encounter very often.

Absolutely delicious meal in a welcoming and comfortable place. I recommend the whipped goat cheese appetizer and the shrimp entree which were both amazing. Also tried the vodka from Africa in a martini and it was delicious too! Would eat here often if not just visiting Phoenix!
