Durant's blew my expectations of a steak house out of the water. The food was phenomenal from the starter all the way to the desert. The amount of detail from the moment you walk in the door to the table service and the plating of our food was nothing less than artful. The atmosphere is just as beautiful as the food, they went all out decking the halls for Christmas! I've never seen a restaurant decorated with such a classy, aire of elegance for the holidays. If you have any special occasions or just want the best steak of your life Durant's is the place to go.

Exceptional service - your water glass will never run dry! Martinis are wonderful - especially with the blue cheese olives which are slightly astringent and delightful! Spinach salad was good and waffle fries were exceptional. Rib eye steak was ordered medium and came out medium well. Flavor was fantastic though and steak was very tender and the char / crust was excellent. The bread here is a meal in itself, so go slow! I would come back again but order medium rare to get medium.

Red velvet saloon decor pair with all 70-80s goodies:dirty dancing, beach boys etc if you’re seeking the Classic American experience, this is the place. Juicy Prime rib & creamy lime pie were amazing. I’d eat more garlic/leek bread if I wasn't watching out for my weight. server Ricardo was friendly and made all the right notes, thank you for this great dining experience. Highly recommend !!

Durant's is DELICIOUS with excellent service! We went for our anniversary and had a call. Their drinks are phemominal as well. The lighting inside is a bit lower as there is a romantic feeling here. So the food images might be hard to see but it is Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, and Scallops & Mash. The steak here as also amazing. Highly recommend

You may go to Durants because of its storied history, to imagine sitting beside a member of the Rat Pack or one of Phoenix’s movers and shakers. You could have. You may go because you’ve heard people walk through the kitchen to get in, and you can’t believe it’s true. It is. But the reason Durants has been such an icon in this city’s culinary history for so long is simple - its food. Even with the limited post pandemic menu and inflation related price increases, you MUST experience Durants, and more than once. Of course their steaks are some of the best in the business. But don’t over look the Oyster Rockefeller, which is the best I’ve ever had. You have to search for the oyster in all the cheese and crumble. Yum. Manhattans? Perfecto. Even the warm bread is a treat. For a quiet dinner, ask for a booth in the bar when you make your reservation. It’s very intimate, perfecto again.

Nice little place downtown. Need happy hour after work? Visit Durants for a beautiful quiet atmosphere. We didn’t try the food but the Dirty martini and the Old Fashioned were absolutely delicious! Highly recommended!!

Durant's is our favorite "go to" steakhouse in Phoenix. Their bone in ribeye is the best steak I have ever had and I grew up in Nebraska. The martini is full to the brim and off the charts quality and coupled with the cheesecake for dessert makes a match made in heaven. Prices reflect the quality of food, service and atmosphere here and are well worth it. Walk in the back door and go through the kitchen and you will be greeted by enthusiastic cooks, servers and waiters ready to serve you......a wonderful experience every time we go to Durant's.

We have been going to Durants for all of our special events for the last five years. We have always had an exceptional experience. Tonight, 6/18/20, we were excitedly getting ready for our 6:00pm reservations for 9 people, which was made 2 weeks ago, to celebrate my birthday and our daughters engagement. At 2:30 the phone rand to confirm our reservation for 5 people. I corrected them and said the reservation was for 9 people at two different tables. The person said, we can’t accommodate that and said I’d have to speak with manager. Chris, the manager came on and said, we don’t take reservations for 9 and they had to cancel my reservation. In the next breath he said, we had a party in last week that keep running back and forth between the tables. So which is, they don’t take reservations for large parties OR they decided to cancel mine because someone else couldn’t follow the rules? So disappointed that they did this to us and on topic that, expressed no regret in ruining our special night!

When you enter into the restaurant, you actually go through the kitchen to the dining room. Everyone greets you. Very clean. As you get seated look around the dining areas. It's like you stepped back in time. Very cool and comfy. Our server was fantastic. He had great suggestions. Do go for the Calamari appetizer. Plenty to share. Try the scallops--delicious! Delmonico Cut steak. Finish the evening with a glass of port and their Strawberry Shortcake. This dessert is fresh! Can't go wrong here!

As good as a steak can get. Durant's has old world charm with class. It was one of the best Rib eye steaks I've ever eaten (and one of the largest). My wife and I easily shared the meal. The Key Lime pie was superb. The four of us couldn’t have been happier with the main courses and desserts. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely go back!

Nestled in the heart of Phoenix, Durant’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a time machine with a culinary flair. For over 70 years, this old-school chophouse has been the secret handshake of the meat-loving elite. Here’s a pro tip: Want a table? Better brush up on your rotary phone skills, because online reservations are as mythical as a well-done steak in this joint. Stepping into Durant’s is like crashing a Rat Pack party. You enter through the back, sashaying past the clatter and sizzle of the kitchen, only to be ushered into a world wrapped in red leather booths and whispers of mobster legends. The vibe is so authentic; you half expect Frank Sinatra to croon from a corner. The ambiance? Think of it as ‘intimate mobster chic’. The lighting is just right – not too bright to blow your cover, but not so dim that you can’t appreciate the tasteful holiday decor. And the sound? No music, just the symphony of clinking glasses and contented sighs. It’s the kind of silence that would make any 1950s gangster nod in approval. Water and bread were on our table faster than a wise guy’s alibi. The warm bread, dressed to impress, came with a posse of fresh veggies and ranch dressing. Our waiter, Clyde from Albania, was the epitome of old-world charm – courteous, attentive, and probably hiding a fascinating backstory. Now, the main event: The prime rib. This 12oz slice of heaven, recommended more times online than cat videos, lived up to its hype. Served with a traditional horseradish and au jus duo, it was a culinary masterpiece, only slightly marred by a steak knife that seemed to have lost its edge – perhaps in a legendary duel. The Sautéed Salmon with Mango Ginger Glaze? A dish so good, it could start its own fan club. The calamari was a crispy, golden dream, complete with an ensemble of rings and tentacles, while the Caesar salad played it cool – classic, but not trying to steal the show. The baked potato? It was the reliable sidekick – salt-dusted, buttered, and ready for action. In conclusion, Durant’s is more than a restaurant; it’s a slice of history served with impeccable taste and a side of intrigue. For those in search of the perfect prime rib or just a glimpse of a bygone era, Durant’s is your culinary speakeasy. Just remember, the phone is your friend, and the back door, your portal to the past.

Dining at Durant's makes for a very enjoyable outing. The food is top tier, and the wait staff is comprised of individuals well versed in service. The lighting is on the dark side for my taste, but overall the ambience is cheery with a positive vibe. I love the now classic entry through the kitchen. It makes for a light hearted dash of zaniness to counter what could otherwise be mistaken for a prim setting. Jackets are not required. While some choices off the menu could be considered expensive, there are ample options, at least during the midday, that don't qualify as cost prohibitive. The valet service is complimentary though I presume tipping to be appreciated.

Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside is typical old school steakhouse ambiance with subdued lighting, dark wood paneling, very attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Ribeye steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare without too much salt or spice rub to allow the beef flavor to come out, but just a bit tougher than would be expected. Garlic mashed potatoes could use a bit more garlic, but otherwise were quite tasty and appropriately lumpy as real mashed potatoes should be.

Sat at the bar. had dinner and drinks. Joe was great. The spinach artichoke dip and onion rings were very tasty.. the bone in ribeye was superb along with the twice baked potato. Make a reservation cause the place fills up fast .. the drinks were legit and proper. I hear this is the best place for a martini or Manhattan.

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time last night. There are not enough words to describe how phenomenal our experience was. We frequent fine dining restaurants and we both left saying this was the best experience we've ever had. Our server, Kevin was entertaining but professional. Every need we didn't even know we had was met before we could even ask. The food was unique and beyond delicious. It was worth every penny. I didn't even care that they spelled my name wrong on the hand written thank you card that the valet hands you on the way out. We felt confident in their COVID precautions and enjoyed the history telling that accompanied each part of the meal. If you have a chance to go here, you absolutely should! We'll definitely be back.

Kai offers the Phoenix Valley its best. What an honor it must be to be a part of the restaurant. The strength of Kai embodies a strong American heart found Arizona. The food is pushing the boundary’s of the culinary arts by composing Arizona elements into an experience of your choice. To prefix or not to prefix, that’s not even a question unless your a regular. During this time only one prefix was offered and it was more than enough. Kai Restaurant shows what it takes to be the best. Sincerely Kevin Uehara

I’m from Dallas and I appreciate an old school steakhouse like Durant’s. You can feel the history when you walk in thru the kitchen and into the dining area, which is dim and crimson colored. The waiter was very knowledgeable and charming. The steak was delicious and the sides were great. Perfect date night spot.

I'll start by saying that we had a great experience here. The service was excellent. All the staff we interacted with while dining here were incredibly friendly. Our server, Klajd, was fantastic. He was attentive to our needs and knowledgeable when we asked him questions about the menu. We loved the Hot LaBrea Bread with Garlic Leek Butter and the salads we ordered with our entrées, a Caesar Salad and Spinach Salads with Raspberry Vinaigrette. For entrées, we ordered the Broiled Filet Mignon, Top Sirloin Steak, and Sautéed Salmon with Mango Ginger Glaze, all of which were delicious. We ended our meal with a Classic Key Lime Pie and Cheesecake, which did not disappoint.

My parents and I came for my birthday and looking at the menu I was worried about the cost to tastiness ratio. Upon arriving all of my trepidation was put at ease, our server Loraine was one of the best servers I have ever had the pleasure of engaging with. She was a highlight and so professionally personable. I can't tell you how much this art has been lost amongst high end restaurants, and how Loraine stood out amongst her peers. The food was spectacular, calamari was fresh, steaks were cooked perfectly as requested and the cocktails were on point! I wish I could give more than 5 stars and I will be back! Thank you Loraine for making my birthday so amazing!

Durant's is nothing to write home about.. I asked to come here some time ago and my boyfriend decided to plan Durant's as one of our main stops for my 33rd birthday. When my boyfriend made the reservation he told them it was for my birthday yet the staff/ waiters made no mention or acknowledgement of our celebration when most steak houses would provide a desert with a candle or a nice message written in sauce as a kind gesture/thanks you for choosing to celebrate at their establishment. My boyfriend ordered a steak "medium well" but the waiter somehow heard "medium rare". Most steakhouse staff will repeat the order back to you for clarity or even explain their version of your steak order to ensure you're comfortable with that temp and color of meat. This waiter did no such thing and after the 3rd time of us sending the meal back WE decided to clarify the order and this is how we learned that he misheard us. I ordered fried shrimp and they were huge/ about the size of the palm of an adult female hand. I asked the waiter if they were prawns instead of shrimp as the menu listed but he didn't know what prawns were... They were abnormally large for shrimp though and the texture reminded me more of chicken than seafood. They were tough! The appetizer bread and oil sauce was good, but overall the food was nothing to write home about. The decor was nice. The dim lighting was romantic and the wine choices were great. To enter the establishment you must walk through the kitchen where each staff member stops cooking to greet you so this was a nice touch however we dined in complete silence. There was no music to help the ambiance just the sound of silverware scraping and other people's conversation. Although the prices here were higher than the average Scottsdale steakhouse, the reviews are so great at this classic historic establishment that even if things were not perfect, I'd never have expected it to be as bad as it was. It makes me wonder why our experience as a couple of color is SO drastically different than all these glowing reviews. I was underwhelmed with the entire experience.

The place was absolutely loaded when we were available. Quickly greeted and had our name removed. Waited possibly 10 mins and then was seated. The table chair was proposed by my friend (that's in a wheelchair)without asking however was brought back promptly. The waitress asked if we wanted his chair put in back as well as really did not push when we said no. Additional bonus! She really did not touch his chair without consent. To any kind of wait team reading this, that indicates a lot to us. We will definitely be going back next time we're in Phoenix metro! Thank you to everybody for an incredible eating experience!

Very friendly reception by the staff as soon as you step through the kitchen doors. The reservation process is quick and easy. We got our table right away after our reservation is confirmed. Very attentive and courteous staff. As for the food, everything came in huge portions and well-presented. The chef did not disappoint. If only we had the room to finish everything. I didn't notice if there was music playing overhead. Other patrons near us were a bit noisy but clearly having a good evening.

Absolutely incredible dining experience. The service, the food, the quality - all of it amazing. From the moment you're seated, they go over the menu (and the story of the picture on your individual menu), then walk you through each course. Almost everything can be made gluten free. The gluten free bread is actually incredible and, to attest to the excellent service, they gave me a loaf to take home just because. No one does that! It was one of the best experiences I've had at a dining establishment. HIGHLY recommend.

The best restaurant in the world. We have been to many restaurants around the country but none of them come close to Kai. It’s not often any place lives up to its expectations these days but it was above anything we could have expected. Simply amazing. With every precaution being taken & the best story ever told about the history of the Pima people explained to us with every dish using passionate details is unmatched in this world. If it wasn’t the perfect dinner already my 1961 Chevy Corvair battery died out front & our server Jeremy was able to jump it after working all night for us. That’s above & beyond. This is the best restaurant in the world. Jackson, the staff...all of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. N. Hoye

Great place to eat if you are willing to spend the money. Did the 5 course tasting menu on New Year's Day and every course was delicious. Kevin and the rest of the wait staff were amazing.

I went in without expectations, and ended up having one of my top-10 dining experiences in my life. Kai compares favorably to my favorite restaurants in New Orleans, Munich, and D.C.

A very amazing cocktail bar. We walked up and didn't have a reservation at 8pm, but they were able to accommodate us at 10:30pm and kept checking in with us throughout the night to confirm.

I have a lot of pride in Arizona native and indigenous cuisine, and I have actually eaten many of the unique ingredients on the menu at Kai though I only visited the one time. I was supposed to be on my honeymoon in Japan, but covid happened and the flights were all shut down. My husband and I went to stay at Wild Horse Sheraton and dine at Kai instead to make up for an already huge disappointment. I enjoyed the experience at Kai, and was only disappointed when I returned to my hotel room down the hall and started to feel sick to my stomach. My plate had duck prepared several ways, but 1 of the preparations of duck made my stomach uneasy, my husband tried a bite and he felt the same. I had never tried duck before, I trusted the chef at this 5 star restaurant, and didn't realize that I was being poisoned. I didn't finish the portion, thankfully. Within a few hours after eating there, I became horribly ill. It's embarrassing to say but I made a mess of the bathroom uncontrollably.. and when my husband called for help they sent him a bucket and some spray. He was up until 3am cleaning the bathroom. We were then rejected to do anything at the spa the next day.. and virtually our honeymoon was ruined, again. We tried reporting everything and eventually made a claim for the situation. 3 months after the incident we finally heard back that they don't believe I got food poisoning from Kai because there is no proof. I have heard of restaurants saying this before because supposedly people claim to be sick all the time and want something for it. I, on the other hand, have never claimed to be sick from a restaurant before... and the proof was down the hall in the same building, in the bathroom.. with me terribly ill. Loss prevention tried to tell me that it takes 24 hours to get food poisoning and therefore it was from something different I had eaten prior. Little did he know I am a health professional and the CDC states that even 1 hour after ingesting contaminated food can symptoms of food poisoning appear. After trying to fight this, the food and beverage manager credited back our bill from the restaurant.. it took 3 months. My point... don't trust it just because it's supposed to be good quality.

This place is on my top 5 food experiences, and I am an avid traveler. The Foie gras is so magical - better than what I had in Paris, the venison was perfection, the dessert was magnificent and the ballet of the service staff was something every business person should observe - that is what makes a business 5 stars. I would go back to Phoenix just for this food.

I think I would have liked the food more if I realized it was a New Mexican style menu. Food portions are huge and also hard to end up. Our steward was a great deal of enjoyable as well as extremely knowledgeable. If you like spicy food you will appreciate this place. For me, it was a little also hot for my tummy. The food was exceptional! Nevertheless, we got the training course menu, and also there was just way excessive time between courses.

Mind blown! I don't know why it took me 20 years to come here. My wife and I went for her birthday and she was blown away by the food. Best meal she's ever had! Loved the dim lights and romantic but fun atmosphere. And our waiter was so amazing! 27 years he said he's been there. That's saying something! We will definitely be making Durant's a special occasion stop on a regular basis.

We love this place! I have to give it a 3 due to the recent trips here, it seems the food is on a decline. Stale chips, hard bread, meals not cooked to the request and poor bar drinks. This has been our experience the last 2 times and I’m writing this hoping someone sees it and does something. It’s a great place with great service and great food I just don’t want it to slack anymore and continue being a place where a $400-$500 dollar dinner is worth it.

My favorite fine dining steakhouse in Phoenix. The steak is on par with the best but I prefer the more chill atmosphere that this place has over Dominick’s or Steak 44. Get whatever entree you want but make sure you try the Oyster Rockefeller. Never had a bad meal or service here. They are always so good to me. Be good to them and you might get something special.

This is an old-fashioned steakhouse. Dark red color lights, comfy sofas and great steaks. Main entrance is not open. You walk in from back door, red carpet, through the kitchen. This is from the past. Even Old fashioned cocktail is served with fruits and soda, prohibition style.

Visited Durant’s for the first time to celebrate my birthday. Parking in the back was pretty open. The entrance is a door that leads you through the kitchen to the hostess stand. We were greeted and sat in a large booth after arriving earlier than our reservation. Our server Robert was excellent. Water was brought to the table quickly. We tried the lemon drop martini which were delightful. For food- their complimentary bread is probably the best bread I’ve tasted in my entire life. For entrees we both had the Caesar salad-wonderful. I had the mango glazed salmon and my fiancée did the broiled ribeye with Au gratin potatoes. For dessert we did their strawberry shortcake. Everything from the ambience, to the food, to the service was 5/5. If you’re looking for somewhere to celebrate or just a place to try with old school vibes and good food, check out Durant’s.

One of the best steaks I had in the city. The short cake was also delicious. The fries were great. The cheesecake and the salad were just okay. The atmosphere is very nice. Perfect for a date night.

Durant's is a long-standing fixture of the Arizona steakhouse circuit. This place has a history and definitely feels like a throwback to a different time. If you're like my wife and me, you might be thrown off by the entrance that passes directly through the kitchen with no obvious signage, but once you find your way to the dining area, you'll be met with something of a speakeasy vibe. Rather than conforming to the popular European-style fine dining style of modern steakhouses (think white table cloths and French brigade-type service), Durant's maintains a genuine American flare, with its red leather booths, red velvety wallpaper, and exposed wooden tables. There is a nice balance of no-frills attitude and old-fashioned comfort. We were there near Christmas and were treated with a fun table-side caroling quartet performance of Feliz Navidad. But the most important thing at any steakhouse is, of course, the steak! Here, Durant's does not disappoint. The ribeye I had was tender and juicy, cooked precisely to order (medium-rare), and seasoned perfectly. My wife's NY Strip cooked medium was also super juicy. This is what puts Durant's up there with the best steakhouses in the Phoenix metro area. The spinach dip with chips and toast, Caesar salad, spinach salad with raspberry vinaigrette, and garlic bread were all tasty and surprisingly generously portioned. The two sore spots we found here were the drinks and desserts. The cocktail menu is oddly pricey, so I went with a couple different whiskeys, one neat and one on the rocks. The neat whiskey was fine, but according to the bill not what I ordered, and the rocks whiskey was far too watered down with crushed ice, as opposed to a more modern and desirable single large ice cube. For dessert, we ordered the crème brulée trio to taste a variety of flavors at once. While the eggnog with rum was quite impressively flavored, the berry was very watery, and the chocolate had a very chalky texture, and none of the three had that satisfying thick sugar crust to crunch through. Overall, Durant's delivered a unique and enjoyable old-fashioned American steakhouse experience that I would recommend any steak-lover try at least once.
