A local recommended we try this place out and I wish we would've found it sooner! If you're looking for authentic, flavorful, and fresh good then this is the place. We went when it was packed, but the food still came out fairly quickly and the servers were attentive. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who visits! Moreover, if you like spicy food then you are at the beat place.

Nice spot with open air dining area. Two floors with large area upstairs. Service was quick and food excellent. I had the fajita plate, great value. Popular place, but no wait when I went. I'd go back for sure.

True Mexican restaurant experience with amazingly good tacos. Highly recommend stopping by here. They have three locations and Playa Del Carmen that I have seen. And they all are equally as good. Also, pretty fast service, I recommend the sirloin tacos first and then the Arrachera tacos. The Pastor tacos with the pineapple are also delicious.

Read that this was one of the best and cheapest places to eat in the area (and apparently there's multiple locations, so if full there are other ones to try out). Was pretty full when I arrived, but got one of the last tables. There seemed a steady flow of people arriving (many by taxi, so if they're travelling far just for this it should be decent). Went for the pastor and beef tacos. And ended up getting a few more as they were pretty good. Not too expensive (just over £1 a taco). Overall good - will probably come back again while I'm still here, and avoid the overly expensive/touristy places that are nearby.

Both locals and tourists love this place for excellent Mexican food. The pastor tacos and chorizo are some of the best I have in Playa del Carmen. Worth the brief walk away from the main tourist area for an affordable, delicious meal.

What a gem!!! So far the best Mexican food I’ve had here. Extremely cheap and loaded with flavour! Only cost $75 USD to feed a family of 5 including drinks. Not too far off 5th ave but totally worth going off the road for. I highly recommend coming here!

Superb food, good service, very fun atmosphere. I would highly recommend their Tacos Al Pastor if you like pork and pineapple - absolutely delicious. This was one of the highlights of places to eat I've been to in Mexico. They have two floors of resturant, and some great artwork on the walls.

This is the place the locals eat and you can tell. Very great prices and amazing food. Real Tacos 🌮 and not a tourist trap. Highly recommended. Best tacos we ever had. Particularly the chorizo con ceso. Tip > try the sauces before you put them on your tacos some are very spicy but very tasty.

You want to try some of the best tacos 🌮 in Playa Del Carmen? Look no further! Order an el pastor, it's soooooo delicious! This place is also very popular so be prepared to wait for your food but it's completely worth it! At maximum occupancy I waited 10 minutes for my meal which isn't bad. My meal cost 66 pesos. The food is bursting with flavour and it became one of my favourite food spots in playa del Carmen. Enjoy!

We arrived around 6:15 pm on a Sunday night and got in right away, but about 20 minutes later they were busy with a line around the corner. However, they have fast and great service. We ordered the full order of guacamole, steak quesadillas, tacos loco (mixto), smoked pork (ahumada) platter, and another plate of mixed meats with cheese (forgot the name, but it was steak and chorizo). Everything was delicious, and their salsas are a bit more spicy than elsewhere we've been. We've noticed a lot of Mexican restaurants here serve the jalapeno salsa (salsa verde) and a salsa roja that is spicier; however, the salsas here at El Fogon are more spicy than at the other places we've been. We still asked for the hottest salsa (as always) which was literally them slicing a couple green habeneros and serving them in a liquid (lime juice maybe?), the exact same thing the previous restaurant did. While it wasn't the "liquid-oozing from every pore and orifice" spicy that we were expecting based on reviews (granted the reviews were 8 years ago from fellow gringos that love spicy), it was still good. My friend loves bacon, and he said the smoked pork was amazing and that the chorizo was good (he doesn't like chorizo!). The steak quesadillas are nothing like what you would get in the U.S. because they are loaded with steak similar to fajita meat and barely had any cheese. The steak was remarkable because it melted in your mouth, and it wasn't even the arrachera! The tacos locos (plato) was also just as amazing because it's several chopped meats mixed with slices of bacon on top and covered in queso fundido. I had the plate with steak and chorizo, jalapeño slices covered in queso fundido, and a potato with crema. A lot of the dishes come with guacamole and grilled onions (cebollas asadas). The entire meal (tacos locos, steak quesadillas, smoked pork, my plate, plus 4 waters, a soda, and 3 beers) all came out to around $65 US (~$1300 MXN). Again, service was quick and amazing. Everywhere else we've been we have spent about 1.5 hours in the restaurant because service was slow, but not this place. It's the locals' go-to for gpod food. We were attracted because of the supposed spiciness, but were amazed by the food itself! And our server couldn't have been better. I was an overcast/rainy day, but that allowed us to stay cool inside. I would highly recommend this place, and if you want to try a variety of meats, get the tacos locos.

The food here is amazing! The papas/grilled potatoes with bacon are fantastic! The fajitas were amazing too! All the extra sauces are great and the tortillas are super fresh!

Oh wow, the best tacos and Mexican food I’ve experienced in my life. Love that there’s lots of locals there, the quality and portions are top notch. Service is amazing, fair price.

Wow. Probably the best taco I’ve ever had. The chorizo w/ cheese is AMAZING. Also the quesadillas are simple, cheap, and awesome!

This establishment is the real deal. The food was FANTASTIC and tastes even better. Service was superb and meals were served very quickly. We went back the next day and the server remembered me and my food and drink choices. Now that's commitment to a job! Come here and you will not be disappointed.

This food could not be more delicious!!! Service amazing. Quality of the food is phenomenal. Prices even better. I ordered an arrachera torta (steak sandwich) and a strawberry daquaris and they were amazing. My husband enjoyed the pastor and chorizo tacos. If you want authentic and quality Mexican food- this is the place!

One of my favorite restaurants in playa de Carmen. True, authentic Mexican food. And priced as a local and not a mark up. Delicious beans, pastor tacos, “la gringa” steak arrechera, chorizo tacos. Just try a variety of things and you will find your go to! Credit cards are accepted, my recommendation is pay in pesos especially if you travel with a foreign free card to get best exchange that way.

El Fogon is another restaurant that challenges the most delicious food we had in Mexico. Their tacos are out of this world, which explains the long lines and packed house! It is certainly worth the wait, and it is actually quite fun to watch the cooks from the window. While you eat, make sure to try some of the aqua Fresca that they offer. You'll definitely want to come back!

I went to this restaurant 3 times whilst I was on holiday. Every time I ordered the El Ranchero, chips with guac and non alcoholic Pina colada. They were just so delicious. And the staff were very helpful. I would definitely recommend, although maybe more so for carnivores. My veg friends didn’t have as much options.

Went here with wife and 2 small kids (age 8&9). Very tasty food. Waiter did great job with suggestions for family supper. Would recommend for big meal ;) worth noting that we had to wait 15 mins for a table.

Another 5 star experience - it’s the second location I’ve tried and food/staff exceeded expectations (again). The place was packed with locals, I love to see that. The pastor tacos are incredible, always regret not getting more when I order them. We also got the veggie and cheese fajita plate although I can’t recall the name they use for it - stars with an A and it’s in my picture. It was great as usual. I’ve had it about 5 times and it’s consistently good.

As of this posting this is the second night in a row eating here. The first night it wasn’t too busy so when we walked up the waiter quickly escorted us to a table. As of tonight it was a bit busier. We were standing outside waiting for someone to seat us. After a while I mentioned we were waiting to be seated and they mentioned I was standing on the “to go order” side. (No sign stating which side is which also) So we moved to the other side and they sat us quickly up stairs. (We didn’t realize there was an upstairs) so as a heads up if u eat there, make sure u are standing on the correct side to be seated. Now for the food. It’s amazing. Hence us eating there 2 nights in a row. If I can instead give this place 4.5 stars I would bc the only downfall was having to wait there and no one ever asking if we needed help or anything. If u are ever in the area, give this place a try!

When returning after 7 years to Mexico I was so happy to eat some real Mexican food again 🤤! We had lunch here a few days in a row, and we loved the Tacos al Pastor! Also friendly and quick service. I can definitely recommend eating here at least once when visiting Playa del Carmen.
