First the + -) the Price is lower than in other places and -) food is very good, also for vegetarians or vegans Now the - -) the Communication of the Office and the Place itself is nonexistent or very very bad. For example: we wanted a group tour, the office told us there is no group tour only private. Ok we payed the private tour. Arriving there they put us on a boat in a group (don’t get me wrong, we liked it better but why not offer group tours then?) They have boats that are big enough and as we live in a time in which Resources saving is necessary, why go on 3 boats with only one person each instead of 1 bigger boat? Less costs for the lodge as well… -) the communication with the office was very good before we arrived there, afterwards no responses which I find very sad -) the door to our room could not be closed as there was no lock in the door itself -) the Night tour is a complete joke. The guide even told us that you don’t see anything (except for Kaimans) in the nighttour anymore. Furthermore, none of the guides were really in the mood for the tour anyway („you really wanna do this?“) Please don’t sell the night tours anymore. Nothing to see there and nobody wants to do it! In my opinion a little scam -) this is more personal but if you don’t speak Portuguese, the People at the Lodge won’t make you feel welcome. We have been in lots of party of brasil and the people everywhere were nicer -) another person from our group wanted to touch a bird which was pretty close to the boat and the guide did not say anything. If we want to enjoy the pantanal in the future, I don’t think things like that should be allowed… [-) this one is also personal; but if there is a polarizing election as the presidential in brasil this year, why do you take a driver that has a bolso sticker all over his car? We are not even Brasilians and even we felt offended. What if people are really into the election and have to suffer through this?] All in all I can say we saw two Jaguars as well as other animals and the nature in general was amazing. But if lodges like this one Continue there way of doing things in the pantanal, we won’t be able to enjoy it for much longer… If you care about the environment, go for another tour even if it costs more. We would have done the same if we would have known…

Me and my 2 friends we have been all beaten by bed bugs! The Pousada is VERY expensive and bed bags should never happen in such an expensive place! The staff was very friendly and the location was great! The place has got a huge potential, but it seems it is not run by people who care about the place and what they do. The trips were lovely and our boat driver: Indio, was always very friendly and flexible. As much as I loved that part of Pantanal, I would never stay in this place again and would not recommend anyone to stay there either!

This place has a potential to be able to be very nice - unfortunately when we arrived it looked very neglected, cigarette ends thrown all over the floor- by the own staff, rubble in front of the apartments, empty cans in the garden. Not what you expect at a ecological natural reserve! The pool was very dirty, unusable, no sun-beds or chairs around it. The restaurant totally unappealing with lots of mosquitos everywhere as they do not use mosquito screens at the open windows in the morning. The food was not nice, breakfast really horrible, not a bit of effort made to be clean and attractive, simply horrible and cheap, especially if you pay so much money for it! The apartment very simple - not at all like on the website with flowers and nicely decorated - the worst part, dirty and stained mattresses (2 of the 3 in our triple room), no protecting covers, and we got today confirmed by a doctor that all 3 of us were bitten by bedbugs! all over our bodies, totally unacceptable! The boattrips were very nice but around 2 times 3 hours a day in a boat you should at least have a rooftop protecting against rain or sun, as other places have. A total no-go and i would recommend to check other places out first, rather paying a bit more but not to have such a terrible experience. Pantanal is a simply fantastic place, Pousadas like Rio Claro were simply wonderful - but we were totally unsatisfied and very disappointed with this one!

This lodge is acceptable - but there may be betters in the area. The wifi only works in the dining area. Dinner is really late - 7:30 - when it gets dark by 6pm. It seems like just an excuse to sell alcohol because there is nothing else to do but sit and drink. Room service is not automatic. (They did it when we asked after the second night). I expect room service in a place that gives a bathroom trashcan without a lid). Lastly, I would NOT suggest their boats. None of them have canopies - and in the hot sun it is VERY necessary.

We just finished a three day stay at Pousada Porto Jofre. I was worried about the experience due to mixed reviews on Google and a miserable admin experience (explained later). We were also traveling independently (without the backing of a tour company or guide) as a family with two teenage children, this adding another layer of anxiousness. However, the pousada was easy enough to find off the Transpantaneira, and we were greeted early by the manager, Gom Sala, in reasonable English. The place itself is beautiful, and a wildlife sanctuary in itself. The room was delightful in that it was clean, decently furnished, and the shower was the best I have had in Brazil. Every time we looked out of the glass sliding doors, we saw all sorts of wildlife to entertain us. Ok the premises itself, we saw: macaws, toucans, capuchin monkeys, vultures, Jabiru storks, capybaras, an anaconda, and the list goes on. Every time we turned our heads, there would be some animal entertaining us - truly the sights and sounds of nature. The staff kept the ground spotless, and all the equipment was well maintained. Food was ok, but then again we were in the middle of nowhere and our family is fussy. The bar staff, especially Gabriel, were very accommodating. The jaguar spotting boat trip was brilliant. The seems to be a standard formula (it does not matter which lodge organises it) for all the guides steering the boats: there are about 5 or 6 resident jaguars who will inevitably come out in certain hotspots during the day. The guides patrol these areas, and as soon as a jaguar is spotted, they radio each other and all the boats race to get to the sight. Thus, you are almost guaranteed a sighting of these majestic creatures. Despite the formulaic nature of the trip, it was very rewarding, offering us 3 jaguar sightings, an anaconda, giant river otters, caiman, countless herons, etc. I previously mentioned an awful admin experience. A few days before we were scheduled to arrive at the hotel, I got a message from they admin team saying that the government was going to close the Transpantaneira on exactly our start date, and given that it is the only access road, we could not get there. Horrified about this news (we had planned most of it Brazil trip around these three days), I asked what could be done or could they give a refund. They simply referred to their terms and conditions and said that no refund was possible, and the only possibility was to leave earlier in the day to beat the planned bridge closure. Alternatively, they could offer us credit to return another time. I explained that we were from the UK, and a credit for a later date was useless. I suggested that we could switch dates during the same week and nice the other hotels in the area to accommodate them, but for a long time, they were completely inflexible, claiming that they were full, and kept referring to Ts & Cs. Only after being and pleating did they accommodate us later that week as I had initially suggested. It all worked out in the end, but way too much stress was incurred. However, all that drama dies not detract from an amazing start, so I still maintain my 5 start rating. I can only suggest that you do not book directly with them, but go through an agency for some level of protection. I had to write this review to counteract some of the less positive reviews. It really was brilliant. Thank you Pousada Porto Jofre.

Special place. Staff is beyond nice and seeking to please any way they can. Gonçalo was awesome and always had a smile on his face. Locals told me this was the best place from a cost benefit standpoint in Porto Jofre. Having done some research with prices from the other places and having received the service and overall experience we got, I tend to think they’re right.

Couldn't fault this place. It's in the perfect location to hop on the boats every morning and be in the best part of the Pantanal. Staff were really friendly and helpful, buffet food and snacks were delicious, big rooms with aircon and hot showers. The pool is cleaned every morning and has loungers and umbrellas. There is tonnes of wildlife all around the pousada. We saw deer, agoutis, capuchins, toucans, aracaris, guinea pigs, guans, frogs, lizards and more just while we were around the pousada. It's a fraction of the price of all the other tour companies and I can't think of anything they could offer better than this. We were a couple and had a private boat with comfortable swivelling armchairs! We saw SEVEN jaguars, river otters and tonnes of birds while we were there just for 3 days. Amazing. Would 100% recommend. The only problem we had was with the transfer. The driver thought we were at the airport as the office hadn't provided our address, so it was late. During office hours, the company were really responsive and helpful via WhatsApp.

Honestly, I cannot believe that this place has more than 4-star rating. My guess is that in many cases people think to be reviewing the nearby Porto Jofre Pantanal Norte Hotel, just a few hundred meter away. This review is for the Pousada Porto Jofre, and I just got Google to change the name of the place to avoid confusion. The location is wonderful, at the end of the Transpantaneira road and on the San Lorenzo river, near the Encontro das Aguas State Park, the best place to see Jaguars in Brazil. But so is the location of several other hotels nearby. The hotel is borderline acceptable, even for a remote location. The best thing is the air conditioning in the room, which works well and quietly. There is no room cleaning service (not even to empty the wastebasket in the bathroom), we got top sheets for the beds only on the second day, the rooms had no key to lock it (either from outside or inside), the food is very basic with limited variety and selection, the pool has green, murky water. The hotel has basically no staff in place, apart from Iago, who is very nice but does basically all: receptionist, bell man, waiter, barman, etc. There is no COvid-19 protocol in place! mask use is not enforced (hotel staff do not use masks) and there is no gel alcohol in sight. The WiFi works only in the main lounge/hall which is also the only place to get shelter besides the rooms. It has one little TV, three very used armchairs, and the restaurant tables and chairs. I am not looking for luxury, but even in a remote location (with electricity) it should not be difficult to prepare pao de queijo daily, have some snack available for customers (to buy if nothing else), basic room cleaning, clean sheets. The boats for the excursions seems very basic and clearly a bit below the level that you see on the water from other hotels (no shade canopy, basic aluminium boats). As I said, I am not looking for luxury but the Pousada is not cheaply priced either, aligning its price to that of neighboring places which seem much better. Also, beware of the booking sites and tour operators: many seem to exploit the name confusion to put you in the pousada, which has normally more vacancies than nearby places (I wonder why....). Bottom line: fantastic place, just choose another place to stay. Now if nothing else is available, you can survive well here.
