We
just
finished
a
three
day
stay
at
Pousada
Porto
Jofre.
I
was
worried
about
the
experience
due
to
mixed
reviews
on
Google
and
a
miserable
admin
experience
(explained
later).
We
were
also
traveling
independently
(without
the
backing
of
a
tour
company
or
guide)
as
a
family
with
two
teenage
children,
this
adding
another
layer
of
anxiousness.
However,
the
pousada
was
easy
enough
to
find
off
the
Transpantaneira,
and
we
were
greeted
early
by
the
manager,
Gom
Sala,
in
reasonable
English.
The
place
itself
is
beautiful,
and
a
wildlife
sanctuary
in
itself.
The
room
was
delightful
in
that
it
was
clean,
decently
furnished,
and
the
shower
was
the
best
I
have
had
in
Brazil.
Every
time
we
looked
out
of
the
glass
sliding
doors,
we
saw
all
sorts
of
wildlife
to
entertain
us.
Ok
the
premises
itself,
we
saw:
macaws,
toucans,
capuchin
monkeys,
vultures,
Jabiru
storks,
capybaras,
an
anaconda,
and
the
list
goes
on.
Every
time
we
turned
our
heads,
there
would
be
some
animal
entertaining
us
-
truly
the
sights
and
sounds
of
nature.
The
staff
kept
the
ground
spotless,
and
all
the
equipment
was
well
maintained.
Food
was
ok,
but
then
again
we
were
in
the
middle
of
nowhere
and
our
family
is
fussy.
The
bar
staff,
especially
Gabriel,
were
very
accommodating.
The
jaguar
spotting
boat
trip
was
brilliant.
The
seems
to
be
a
standard
formula
(it
does
not
matter
which
lodge
organises
it)
for
all
the
guides
steering
the
boats:
there
are
about
5
or
6
resident
jaguars
who
will
inevitably
come
out
in
certain
hotspots
during
the
day.
The
guides
patrol
these
areas,
and
as
soon
as
a
jaguar
is
spotted,
they
radio
each
other
and
all
the
boats
race
to
get
to
the
sight.
Thus,
you
are
almost
guaranteed
a
sighting
of
these
majestic
creatures.
Despite
the
formulaic
nature
of
the
trip,
it
was
very
rewarding,
offering
us
3
jaguar
sightings,
an
anaconda,
giant
river
otters,
caiman,
countless
herons,
etc.
I
previously
mentioned
an
awful
admin
experience.
A
few
days
before
we
were
scheduled
to
arrive
at
the
hotel,
I
got
a
message
from
they
admin
team
saying
that
the
government
was
going
to
close
the
Transpantaneira
on
exactly
our
start
date,
and
given
that
it
is
the
only
access
road,
we
could
not
get
there.
Horrified
about
this
news
(we
had
planned
most
of
it
Brazil
trip
around
these
three
days),
I
asked
what
could
be
done
or
could
they
give
a
refund.
They
simply
referred
to
their
terms
and
conditions
and
said
that
no
refund
was
possible,
and
the
only
possibility
was
to
leave
earlier
in
the
day
to
beat
the
planned
bridge
closure.
Alternatively,
they
could
offer
us
credit
to
return
another
time.
I
explained
that
we
were
from
the
UK,
and
a
credit
for
a
later
date
was
useless.
I
suggested
that
we
could
switch
dates
during
the
same
week
and
nice
the
other
hotels
in
the
area
to
accommodate
them,
but
for
a
long
time,
they
were
completely
inflexible,
claiming
that
they
were
full,
and
kept
referring
to
Ts
&
Cs.
Only
after
being
and
pleating
did
they
accommodate
us
later
that
week
as
I
had
initially
suggested.
It
all
worked
out
in
the
end,
but
way
too
much
stress
was
incurred.
However,
all
that
drama
dies
not
detract
from
an
amazing
start,
so
I
still
maintain
my
5
start
rating.
I
can
only
suggest
that
you
do
not
book
directly
with
them,
but
go
through
an
agency
for
some
level
of
protection.
I
had
to
write
this
review
to
counteract
some
of
the
less
positive
reviews.
It
really
was
brilliant.
Thank
you
Pousada
Porto
Jofre.
