The resort itself is pretty nice and well appointed. The pool areas are great to spend time at. There are issues though. When checking in, they asked if I wanted to have a card on file for incidental charges. They almost never allow you to charge anything to your room though at the onsite bars and restaurants. Also while checking in, they will surprise you with a time share pitch. At first, it was framed as a "we'll give you a review of the resort" which turned into put a deposit of $40USD to listen to this pitch and then you'll get the deposit back at the end. It also had to be in cash too. Service is slow everywhere despite there being tons on employees everywhere. This also causes issues if the order is wrong, trying to get your bill, etc. The thing that kind of pushed me over the edge was when checking out, they claimed that we used two face masks, a bottle of sparkling wine, a bottle of Grey Goose, and 1 Fiji water for what would have been over a $2000 MEX charge. We didn't even see masks in the room but it wouldn't have mattered since I brought in a 10 pack. We never touched the minibar since the prices were so high compared to what you could get from the convenience store done the street. None of those items were in the room when we checked in so that tells me that they aren't keeping track of what gets used and restock after previous guests or it was just a straight up scam.

“The pool is amazing, avoid the rest. ” Wow where do i start? The pool is amazing, its the best thing about it - infinity pool and great view. Bar staff are really friendly. The reception win the award for the rudest staff ever. We checked in, after a very lengthy check in process - where they want 10,000 pesos before you can put anything on your room, make you sign contracts .... they then infomed us was no hot water, like no big deal. No attempts at when it's fixed, and when asked, it was like we were the problem. When we checked out, I had to tell the reception guy to actually stop his negative attitude. It's really NOT what you expect from a hotel that calls itself 'Luxury' The rooms are large, but we had zero view, over the club. but the room was large and clean. Breakfast, like all the meals and drinks are very pricey for what you get. The experience put us off staying there again, even though we met other guests that were friendly, they all said the same. Will take my money elsewhere, where I feel valued and respected.

The check in process was BEYOND RIDICULOUS. After sitting in their not air conditioned lobby for 15 minutes I was told that their reservation system was was down and its would be up in about 30 minutes. I was easy going and gave them my bags and went and got lunch. I returned around an hour later. The system was up and they found my reservation but my room would not be ready for another hour and that I could "sit by the pool". At this point it was a sweltering 3pm and I was just wanting a shower and some air-con. I told them I wanted a refund and would be going elsewhere. After raising my voice and explaining that I would win a credit card charge back they agreed to a refund. After reading these other reviews I wonder if I was actually waiting for the timeshare presentation person to be free. Regardless there are many nice hotels for 1/2 the price and every hotel in the romantic zone is LGBT friendly. So many better options read the reviews and avoid this place

This is certainly not a “Luxury” establishment as they advertise themselves to be. To start with something good, “Eden” (the pool area) is very nice. Either then that, I would not recommend Almar hotel. The rooms are old and not very well kept, paid approx 200USD per night, and they would not ever replenish the coffee or the water in the room. The “continental” breakfast is some fruit and regular coffee. The whole reception team is in complete disarray, we have been given our room 3 hours too late on check in without even an apology; we were moved to another room after a few days, and were asked to leave our room before the new one was ready. This is not my definition of Luxury and it is certainly not good value for money. I will not be coming back!

Rooms were nice, but "luxury" is a bit of a stretch. Checkin was ridiculous, front desk wasn't busy, yet we were asked to sit and wait 45 min for a concierge to free up. Finally "Rodrigo" came to welcome us, then offered us "gifts" to sit through a 75 min time-share presentation. We declined, and several persistent "are you sure"s, suddenly our friendly concierge lost his passion for welcoming us. 30 minutes later we were finally checked in. Service at restaurants and bars was horrible, even by Mexico standards. 30 min wait on the beach for a drink. So we moved to the pool and the swim up bar thinking service would be better. Nope, 25 minute wait for basic drinks. 20 for a beer. Also, the drinks were weak and inconsistent. We finally figured out we had to order doubles. (Double pour here = regular pour everywhere else) The free breakfast was a joke, so we ate out the rest the week. We ate one lunch here, and decided there was far better food to be had a few blocks walk. Check your tickets closely, we were charged a day pass at the bar, but we were guests with arm bands. There are better, more luxurious (and cheaper) AirBnB options close by (which is what we normally do), and go to green chairs or blue chairs on the beach. MUCH better service and better drinks! Side note: our outbound flight was canceled so we stayed one night at the Hilton for 2/3 what we paid at Almar. All inclusive! Food was amazing, as were drinks, and it was all included at no additional charge. Servers were on the ball, bringing us drinks without us asking. They knew how to work the tips. Not saying you should stay at Hilton, just showing Almar/Mantamar is hosing their guests. Almar was definitely not a resort experience.

Luxury, comfort and relaxation are not words I would use to describe Almar. Let me start off by saying that this place was a nightmare from the beginning of my vacation. I had paid for an ocean front view and they gave me the low level with the view of a sea shell water fountain.. I thought this was going to be the worst issue, was I wrong. I went to the reception area on three separate occasions to asked to be switched and each time I would just be given a blank stare until it was finally done two days later. To elaborate on how awful this was, we checked in on a Friday and left Saturday morning for an excursion that we came back filthy from Saturday night to TOO NO RUNNING WATER. The hotel left notes saying they were doing some work and that it would be back by the morning time. Did that happen.. NOPE! We went a full day with absolutely no water. By Monday we had ice cold water trickling in, by Monday night it was gone again! Received another note saying that a specialist from Mexico city was flying in to fix the situation, but wouldn’t arrive until Tuesday evening.. what else was arriving Tuesday evening, A HURRICANE. I knew instantly that nothing was going to happen and they would blame the hurricane on all the issues. They somehow kept checking people in to the hotel not explaining to them severity of the problem. People were told, “It will be fixed later today”. Everything I would see someone new checking in I would tell them to run! I ultimately had to check out and save whatever was left from our vacation. This place is awful!!! I WISH I would have listened to the previous reviews. THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I MADE.

The Almar is a promising resort but have lots of work to do. Almar is branded as a luxury hotel but the construction of the rooms you can see the poor quality. The breakfast that is included included three options however they are excessively careful on portions (stingy). They will try to get you to consider a timeshare at the beginning however. They did not persist further. The housekeeping was fairly on point. The pool is indeed beautiful with a great view. There is a hot tub next to it but the jets were not on most of the time. The food at the pool was actually pretty good but expensive. The drinks were okay, definitely more stronger and cheaper in town. Service from most of the staff was good. Location is not ideal for convenience but ideal if you wish to spend your time on the beach. The construction was really bothersome at times. I ordered 24 hour room service for some quesadillas and was told there was nobody available then got called that they found someone to make them but I didn’t get it for an hour an half after I ordered it. Overall lots of maintenance and service gaps that should be addressed. Definitely did not give luxury.

Poor Customer Service and Treatment of Guests. I bought an Almar vacation club (timeshare) studio unit for the winter season in January 2020. The timeshare sales person and sales manager will “sell you the moon and stars of all the perks of being an owner.” NOTE Fine Print: “Benefits subject to change at anytime.” Since this 2 year timeframe I no longer get free taxi transport from airport to the resort, No longer get a 15% food and beverage discount and no ability to reserve a cabana. They also don't release many rooms to members in hopes of getting non vacation club owners to book the paying rooms. It is now impossible to get a reservation as an owner. On this recent visit the front office clerk entered in the incorrect amount for a deposit for incidental charges during our stay. My credit card was charged $12 500 USD. This caused a FRAUD ALERT and froze my credit card. I was not able to buy meals or do excursions as this is my primary credit card for travel. Despite calling my bank they could not reactivate my card until the Almar resort released the hold. I spent the entire week talking to the vacation club staff and the hotel managers (Rodolfo & Carlos) which did not achieved anything. They didn’t even have the courtesy to at least give me a free food and beverage credit so at least I could have meals and drinks at the resort due to THIER ERROR. I am writing this review to WARN others to NOT make my COSTLY mistake of buying a Timeshare at Almar Resort. They do not value their vacation club owners. They don’t treat us as a priority.

Won’t be coming back! Be careful when you book a stay here. I booked my October vacation since May. The reservation process was quick using their webpage, however, upon arrival they told us we booked a room with noise due to building renovations. There was no warning whatsoever during the booking process. Apparently they only inform you of such details when you get your booking confirmation. They expected us to pay 60USD +tax per night for an upgraded room without construction noise. This is what I call SCAM! shame on you Almar. What a way to spoil a long awaited getaway. As said before, WONT BE COMING BACK!

Second stay at this location. First stay they tried to bill us for using the mini-bar fridge contents. Second stay we told them to remove the contents before we took the room. Front desk staff are not empowered to solve problems. There was a minor billing issue -which they caused- and the default action is to lock you out of your room until you talk to them and fix the issue. Other companies would put a message under your door. Nope not this place. Doesn't matter that your wallet is in the room. You must pay now before they fix the keys. (It was a low dollar value which made me angry how it was handled) Housekeeping and cleanliness was awesome. Bar staff on 5fl is decent and the lunch menu food is good quality and competitively priced. The "included" breakfast is consistently cold for eggs and bacon, I never had a hot meal in 10 days, even ordering from the menu instead of the included came cold. Front desk staff says "you're not paying for the meal" - not understanding it's built into the price of the room. The time share sales where you get a free drink and a 15min massage - when I tried to get the massage they said "be right back" and that was it, they didn't return for the rest of my stay. I didn't bother with the free drink figuring it will be the same lacking effort. They are renovating rooms involving hammer drills early in the morning so ask where if you are not an early riser. AC in room worked well. I won't stay here again, mostly because the smaller places try harder and staff are empowered to make the stay a good experience.

I stayed here for 6 nights and I need to say, this is NOT a luxury resort. However, the customer service from the staff makes up for 10x over! They were kind, attentive, and never hesitated to help in improving our stay. The rooms were outdated but the view that came with them was extraordinary. Excellent location to the beach club, local activities, restaurants, and shopping. Food was very good and affordable, I wish the breakfast menu was a little more comprehensive but that is a tiny concern and didn’t really affect anything. The only issue I had was how we had to put deposit down onto our rooms when checking in for credit. It was very confusing, not only to me but everyone we talked to. I’ve stayed at resorts around the world and I’m accustomed to charging resort charges to our room and receiving an itemized receipt when checking out. The checkout process was lengthy, and the charges were not explained or presented to us in a manner that made any sense. The resort really needs to update its procedures, it makes it very annoying to carry a card around when enjoying the resort. I would come back again to see if things improved once renovations have completed.

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The service was shocking throughout. During our stay we had to extend by one night. The reception would not price match despite what it says on their website. Additionally they did not extend on the first night so we could not unpack until the 2nd day. On the day second day they made us move rooms. We had to check out at 11am and not check in again till 2pm. So we didn’t have a room for half a day. Our new room Was missing a headboard, the shower was broken and we had no running water for 4 hours. Also the hotel is swarming with people trying to up-sell you: despite having complimentary massages we were not given massages without being sold an extra hour. On our drinks bills there were extra charges added on all the time without our consent that were only removed when we enquired. We were given a one hour later check out which they then tried to charge us for. They also charged us an extra $570 resort fee despite our booking saying it was included. There was also construction work going on at the hotel which wasn’t mentioned when we booked. We brought up all our issues to the manager and they did nothing to help us. Honestly the worst service. I would advise staying at any hotel other than this hotel.

This place is incredible. The atmosphere, the food, the pools, the room; this resort has it all! Our room was beautiful, large, and clean. Special shout out to the service at Eden! Carlos and Francisco provide A+ service. They made our stay one we will never forget. We will be back next year!

Great staff as always, this is our 3rd time visiting. It is our first time visiting during rainy season. The floor to our room was slippery when we got there, wish they told us to turn on the humidifier sooner. The entire resort is smooth tile, so your older guests are at major risk of slipping without mat walkways between Eden, Top Bar, and every floor at the resort. You need mats like what they have at the entrance of the first floor lobby and Mantamar so guests can have better traction. It would be best to make a walkway inbetween both Eden elevators. I'm sorry if that ruins the look, but your resort is dangerous as it is. We are Almar members visiting from the States. Also you should wait to play your music at Eden and Mantamar until 2PM, we come to peacefully watch the ocean when me and my lover buy timeshares at the Almar. We love your staff, but we don't want to hear the music until afternoon like it was before Eden. Muchos Muchos Gracias, Almar Staff Members (special thanks to Diego, Javier, Marta, Thelma, and the main guy in the 10th floor lobby I think Luis).

I rarely write a review and did not expect to write this as part of our second visit to the Almar resort. The concept of the Almar resort and it’s amenities is awesome. The resort for the most part is well designed and there are several thoughtful details throughout. The property being marketed as a “luxury” resort is a tough one to get past. One could argue you could receive the same or perhaps better service at the Holiday Inn for a fraction of the price you pay at the Almar. As many others have posted, the staff and specifically the resort staff (excluding the bartenders/servers). The experience and friendliness of the hotel staff is almost nonexistent. Don’t expect them to say hello in the hallway or open a door for you or acknowledge you in any way as you’ll be disappointed. This could be different for those you purchased there as vacation club members. My not so good experience on this trip began at checkin. My husband and I were asked to provide our passports and take a seat in the lobby area. The seats were all full so we had to stand. Meanwhile there are employees at desks next to where we are standing and there are chairs at these desks where they have you sit to go over the timeshare sales pitch. Three woman were all gathered behind one desk chatting. It was apparent they had zero interest in wanting to ensure we were comfortable as we waited. I don’t know, maybe my expectations are too high. Once the time came to sign the checkin paperwork we did get our chance to sit in one of the chairs. We knew we were not interested in buying into the timeshare and as soon as my husband politely thanked her and said we are not interested at this time, it was like Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. She said she, “OK, we are all set and you can go”. I was shocked that is what came out of her mouth. To be honest, I our first visit was a 4 day trip at Christmas and we had an amazing time. We wanted to live the Almar. This time it was a full week and the entire experience was completely different. Possibly because we understood things more. The Almar is a money making machine that’s it. It became clear on this second trip. I understand the business aspect but there is a value proposition as a guest I was not receiving in return for my money. The rooms are nothing spectacular. Maybe those that purchased a timeshare get the better rooms but we were placed in the exact same room as last time. The smallest room which is directly above the employee service entrance so you automatically are awaken each morning by the employees all coming in and out and the chatter. I would visit the Eden pool deck and the Mantamar Beach Club. They are definitely fun, though pricey at least the staff are attentive. Best of luck to the staff at the Almar, as it “could” be something very special if the right people had a vision that wasn’t solely based on getting every dollar out of you. I wanted to love this property but cannot if I’m being honest. I am happy for those who have had amazing experiences but I don’t see the property sustaining any level of luxury.

It's a great hotel and I would probably come back at some point, but very sales oriented experience. It did not meet the expectations of a luxury stay, maybe the whole experience is only for vacation club members.... It's a nice place though, comfortable rooms, spacious and nice showers. even with construction I didn't find it noisy I guess previous complaints have made them stop early. Great amenities, pools, gym, bar etc. Kinda pricey for offering no complementary coffee in the room. Overall makes it feel like you pay regular prices for club members to get the benefits.

The resort is nice. But they are so inflexible, it’s all about money. A lot of noise from construction. Unfortunately I do not recommend this hotel. However the rates at the reception is so much more than other platforms of hotel bookings. Guest orientation “zero” and everything you pay just keep the paper bills. Actually very disappointing!

Where is the refund you promised? We stayed there on August 26th, 2022 and were promised compensation since the original room with a jacuzzi and full ocean view was switched to a standard king room with partial ocean view. The front desk said you would call/email us several times but we have not had any managers reach out to us. This hotel is fancy on the outside, but will immediately try to sell you timeshares, but not care about your experience. We stopped by the front desk several times and were told the manager "was away" every single time. We were told the manager would call us, but the manager never did, and hasn't responded to our emails. There are so many better options to stay in Puerto Vallarta. I do not recommend.

Save your time and money. The construction noise is unbearable even with ear plugs and they will do nothing about it because “it’s written in the confirmation email” which is sent after booking. I called prior to this and was told construction would be finished. This was clearly a lie. The noise begins as early as 9 am and lasts until 6pm. Some nights they started again at 9:30 pm until 10:30 pm. The managers Andros and Raphael will guarantee you empty promises. Zero accountability or empathy. They have no care for long term clients, despite coming here for over 5 years. Management has severely gone downhill over the last 2 years.

We have stayed at Al-Mar a number of times over the years. We love all the changes and additions that have been done (second pool, bar, restaurant, etc). On this trip we booked an ocean view room. When we arrived we were taken to a room on a lower floor which overlooked the bar and had a partial ocean view. Immediately off the balcony was some kind of either AC unit or Generator that made a horrible loud droning noise 24x7. It made the patio unusable. I told them that I wasn't ok with the room and would like to explore other options. In addition most of the rooms on the floor were under construction. The third party that we booked through did not disclose this. It was obvious that no one had stayed in the room for a long time before us. Everything was covered in plaster dust, mini bar empty, no coffee or anything else. Went back down to check in where Richardo ( front desk manager) pretty much told us no other rooms available. I asked if we could change rooms the following day - NO- he said that there were no other options for our stay. I asked if we could change rooms on Monday- NO -no chance of changing rooms for the whole stay - NO ONE WOULD BE CHECKING OUT BEFORE THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND. I asked if we could leave and was told NO but I got the third party that we booked through involved and they agreed to let us go if we left in the next two hours. Good luck trying to find a room last minute on a Friday. Came back down on Saturday after finding another place that was available as of Monday. I asked to be allowed to leave early and once again got the Richardo NO. I asked if there was anyone else we could speak with and he said - NO HE WAS THE FINAL AUTHORITY. By this time I was getting really mad and finally got to speak with the head of reservations. I got the third party to call and they arranged for our check out on Monday. The resort actually had the nerve to complain to the booking agent that I was not nice to their staff. Richardo does not know what customer service is - he should not be dealing with the public. Thanks to his inability or unwillingness to make a bad situation better we will never return to a resort that we have enjoyed for many years.

The beds had mites. After the first night I started to get itchy skin and rashes and marks all over my body. After the second night and seeing that the situation was getting worse, we consulted with a doctor who diagnosed us with scaviosis, and we had to spend 2000mex on medicines. We confirm that the condition was contracted at the hotel since no one in our home in Mexico City had symptoms. A doctor or manager never came to the hotel to take responsibility, or at least to apologize. The truth is that paying 1500usd for a stay and having these results is unfortunate and not recommended. We made several posts on instagram to publicize this very reprehensible case.

Can’t speak to some of the issues I see in other reviews, but overall had a great stay! Staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful- the location is excellent, and my room was large and very nice. There are definitely parts of the building that you could see are more dated, but it wasn’t the main guest areas- those were all modernized and well done. Will definitely be staying here again!

The hotel is nice and great amenities but the customer service is horrendous. They didn't have the room we requested and they decided at around 5pm to tell us our room is ready and we walk into a room without a jacuzzi which is what we paid for. Needless to say we had to argue with them for hours only for them to pay us the difference between the rooms. When checking out I heard so many people fighting with them because of random charges they tacked on to their bill that were wrong. Such a shame, if they get competent staff it might be worthwhile again.

I visited with two friends this time and when we pulled up to the property, we had no idea this was the start of nearly seamless visit. **Check-In** The two guys who greeted us stacked our shopping bags and luggage on a cart, as we settled our room details. Our IDs and payments for both "incidentals" ($500 pre-auth) and for the resort fees ($30 per night) were taken. I requested that the mini-bar refrigerator be emptied to avoid a charge **Room** I chose the Mantamar Backstage room and I received rm 317, whose view was an alleyway. The room's retro-futuristic style, included neon accents, stained glass and mesh inserts in the doors. The room had a king bed, large table, nightstands, a dresser, a wall unit w/ a sink, microwave and mini-fridge. The restroom has a water closet, safe, shower and two large storage drawers. However, the room does not have a closet, only a clothing rack. **Atmosphere** The whole property is pristine, down to wall art and the setup of the Eden Pool Deck - you definitely feel like you’re in an exclusive environment and we met several groups of very friendly guys. **Food** My friend who ate at the Top Sky Bar; he had a the breakfast sandwich with potatoes and salad. He indicated that it was tasty and fresh. **Drinks** I didn't drink on property, but I saw several interesting artisan drink additives (dried fruit, etc.). Friend #2 (see below) ordered a margarita b/c he's a lightweight - he noted that the drink was weak **Gym/Spa** The gym is probably less than 250 sq. feet; it has weights up to about 50 lbs., a couple pieces of cardio equipment. There is a small multi-workout machine, a couple incline benches and a kettle bell or two. There were towels and a stellar view of the Banderas Bay; gym opened at 8am **Pool** There is much said about the Eden Pool Deck and - it's a very serene environment with the infinity pool overlooking Mantamar and the Bay. I feel they could stand to amp the music a bit; one warning, the folding beach chairs on the Eden Pool Deck are free to use, however, the lounging beds which hold 2-4 people are $250 for the day **Beach** During my stay, all of the Mantamar chairs lining the beach were available but they were sparsely used; we never sat there because the "seen and be-seen" Mantamar vibe was not there since it was closed **Wifi** I had to work two of the days I was on vacation; if you are leading a Zoom meeting and need a stable connection, you may be out of luck; Using video and sound together seemed to cause frequent disconnections. **Staff** Every member of staff I personally experienced was very accommodating to me; anything I requested was normally done with one exception: I had to make three requests for an ironing board before I received one. Overall, I can attest to the fact that the staff listens and they respond. According to friend #1 below, he had a small issue with manager upon check-in, which I were due to glorified online room descriptions **Summary of overall Experience** The property owner(s) have successfully created a highly Instragrammable experience - however, small details are lost at times (WIFI, finishes/materials in the guestrooms). Noise from construction can be annoying, but luckily we were gone quite a bit I polled both of my friends and: **Person 1 (me): 8.5, based on the fab look of the property, friendly staff, attentiveness, views from the public areas of the coast, chill environment and friendly guests **Friend 1: 8.5, cleanliness of the property and styling of the guest quarters **Friend 2: 8, based on the quality of the breakfast, property cleanliness PROS: quiet b/c of Mantamar closure, very nice front desk personnel and housekeeping staff, styling of the guest quarters, pristine common areas CONS: daily construction noise (minimal), drinks were weak, Mantamar was closed, navigating the property and multiple elevators servicing different areas of the property, expensive Eden lounge beds, slow responses to some requests, inaccurate website room descriptions, inartful management interactions, weak WIFI

BEWARE! Say NO to the time share sales pitch for a “free” breakfast/VIP membership offered during the 45+ minute check in process.. The rooms are all VERY nice. The complimentary breakfast is okay, BUT be prepared to wait an hour + for your two little pancakes, bacon and eggs. The staff all seem to have no idea what’s going on unless when trying sell you a massage. The RIDICULOUS construction noise goes until 10pm! We did receive a discount on our room but had no idea it would go from 8am-10pm. And I’m not usually one to complain but this is NOT quiet construction, they are jack hammering until 10pm….

Luxury brand fails to deliver luxury service. I let the front desk know my TV wasn't working. A staff member accompanied me to my room and confirmed the problem. At checkout, I reminded the front desk that my TV didn't work my entire stay. They told me I should have been more insistent if it was important to me. They waived the mini bar cost of a single Coke, at my prompting. The difference between a luxury hotel and an expensive hotel is the level of service and guest relations. Having my final moment at checkout overshadow the entirety of my experience as a guest is a training and service failure. A sympathetic and prompt service correction would have been simple--invite me to dinner in their restaurant; offer me a cocktail; send a bottle of wine to my room; etc. Instead, the problem was shifted to me for not being more insistent.

This was our second stay and it is just the perfect place to be. It is so close to everything. We love being able to walk to shopping, restaurants, and the night life. And getting a taxi “home” is inexpensive. We were greeted as friends by Alejandro in reception and Brian our favorite bartender by the pool. Free access the the Mantamar Beach Club makes a day at the beach the most enjoyable with great drinks and food. We will go back the first chance we get!

A really great place. Room was beautiful w view of ocean and sunset, pool parties. Really nice. Food was 5 stars. Exceptional. Parties for Thanksgiving were fun. Will be back. My only complaint was house cleaning a bit spotty. Forgot to leave fresh towels. Left 1 roll of toilet paper for 3 people when roll empty. Had to use kleenex. Little things but had a wonderful time

Our concierge Amy was fantastic! She was very communicative and extremely helpful. My only complaint overall is that I didn’t realize there would be parties at Mantamar every night past midnight, so sometimes got frustrating with noise. I understand New Years Eve and even the day before but it was like 5 of our 7 night stay. There should be a disclaimer.

I’ve traveled all over the world, and the Almar Resort was one of the most fun, memorable trips I’ve ever taken! The facilities were immaculate, WIFI was fantastic, resort staff was great, food and drinks were reasonably priced, location was surreal with proximity by foot to beaches, nightclubs, and restaurants and I could go on and on. Rodolfo at the front desk was excellent, Irving at the Eden bar was a highlight of the trip and the massage by Chino and Isaac was unforgettable and completely relaxing. I HIGHLY recommend this place. The infinity pool and sunsets and view fireworks was also superb and it’s right on the beach!

The Almar is the best experience at a gay hotel I have ever had. This is the fifth time I had stayed since 2018. It was amazing seeing Martha and Fernanda in sales still, they were always the best personalities here. Fernanda is so personable and connects to the exact vibe of the Almar Group, her look is always so fashionable and she connects to the members and guests so well. My partner is a member and other members have said how much they liked Fernanda. Thank you Almar, especially Martha and our favorite Fernanda.

Stayed in January 2023. Rooms are big with good view of the beach. Service was good. Free breakfast was very limited but that’s okay. You get access to the pool and the club which were great.

Overall this was a comfortable place to stay. The rooms were clean and we had great views of and sounds from the ocean. The infinity pool at Eden was also nice and free access to Manta Mar. There are some things that we didn’t like that are important to be aware of: - Make sure to get the room rate in pesos. The amount they give you in USD is based on a stronger than reality USD value so they can charge you 5%+more when you actually have to make payment. - They will offer you “complimentary” items in order to get you to try and buy a timeshare. Just politely decline if you don’t want this. - Do not accept liquor upgrades unless you are willing to pay double the price or more for drinks. - They will charge you for almost everything, including the basics like coffee. Despite these things we don’t regret staying there but we thought they should be more upfront about costs.

We stayed 5/7/2023 - 5/13/2023 and it was awesome! Below are my comments. We chose the Deluxe suite with partial ocean view (listed as two queen beds, but pretty sure they were kings like I have at home). The room was super nice, tastefully decorated, well appointed, and clean! My mattress was luxurious. This is a luxury resort. The bathroom could’ve used more hooks for towels but that would be my only (very minor) suggestion. The A/C was more than enough to keep our room cold, hot water on demand, and the ocean view was HUGE…far better than the listed “partial ocean view” on their website. We were extremely happy with the view from our room (we were on the 11th floor). From check-in to check-out every employee we came in contact with were not only very professional, but super friendly and accommodating. They always greeted us with a smile and eye contacgt as we passed through the lobby. Drinks and food at Eden and Mantamar were wonderful. While lounging at Eden we did get a lot of offers for massages, but who cares? The masseurs are HOT AF so just talking to them made our day!!! Daily access to the Mantamar (breakfast included each morning), unless you need a full kitchen and multiple bedrooms/bathroom, then the Almar has it all IMO. Now for the bad part. OH, there is NO bad part…everything was honestly superb and we’ll definitely be staying at the Almar again – SOON! Thank you to all of the staff at the Almar for making our stay so awesome. Every person who works there deserves a shout out, but I can’t remember everyone’s name. However, I definitely remember Francisco (Eden pool). I had a bad sun burn and he was constantly checking on me and moving the umbrella to keep me in the shade. He ensured our quesadillas were crispy, our drinks came out fast. He’s just amazing – thank you Francisco!! Also, the manager at the front desk (didn't get his name) was so nice and accommodating. I sincerely do not have a negative thing to say about the Almar nor Mantamar.

Great hotel, very friendly and accommodating staff, a great value in Puerto Vallarta! Yes, you may pay a bit less for an Airbnb but you won't get daily maid service and an Oceanfront View, plus any of the hotel services.

Overall the stay was great and it was not a bad experience. I will say though that the check-in process is quite confusing and different from many hotels I have stayed with. The other thing I found to be a little frustrating is after you check in you speak with the concierge and they try to swindle you into a sales pitch to get something free and ask for a small cash deposit. Not why I visited PV at all. Nothing is really included in this hotel and is very pricey. The hospitality though is fantastic and the staff is very friendly. Our room was very spacious and has great working AC.

I am one of members and been enjoying my timeshare here at Almar. I just wanna express a big shout out for Norma and Jose of Mantamar. They always give me the warmest welcome for the past years. Today that I’m back as of October 2022 nothing has changed. I always get the best experience in this resort. Jose totally an asset of Almar Team. These two people always makes the best out of my Puerto Vallarta experience. So if you guys are gonna visit Puerto Vallarta, stay in Almar, buy their timeshare. You will never regret it. I highly recommend also the great customer service of Jonathan and Xilo of Mantamar, these two gentleman are awesome, friendly and very courteous. They are the best. Big hugs and please keep that great positivity and good working attitude in you guys. Cheers 🥂.

An upscale experience. Based on the price you can expect a great service. From the front desk to any worker at the hotel. Room was pretty nice, well decorated.

AVOID UNLESS YOU LIKE THE FEELING OF BEING WATCHED 24/7 IN A SUPER OVERPRICED MEDIOCRE PLACE! My husband and I travelled to Mexico for our honeymoon and PV was our second stop (CDMX in Umbral Curio Collection which was great!). Originally we wanted to stay in Casa Kimberly but the idea of staying in a LGBT beach front property won and we chose Almar. What a mistake… A few days before our arrival we got a lovely email from Angie (one of the concierges) saying that if we needed anything basically to just ask, so I politely enquired about their honeymoon options - guess what, no reply. Check in - it took 30 min as it is the most ridiculous procedure, starting at the front desk which tells you to sit down and wait god knows what for, some watered down drinks were brought to us and then the receptionist showed up with countless forms to fill in and to sign ensuring we knew about the extra guest policy ($65 per person) and about lost bracelet policy ($25). Then another concierge which was suppose to explain where is what in the resort, quickly tapped the screen with her extra long nails and commented about my husband’s not smily appearance (we have been travelling at this point for 6 hours and wanted to get to our room asap) and then proceeded to “can I interest you in purchasing timeshare” - no thanks! Read your emails, we are on a honeymoon not on a sale trip!! Our room - booked Grand Almar Hydrobath (#1006) and when we entered the first thing that hit us besides an extremely dated and worn decor, was the stench of mould and dampness. Asked reception what can they do about it so they sent housekeeping to refresh (supposedly fresh and clean) the room. During our stay the smell would present itself on and off and there was nothing anyone could do about that. The hotel isn’t luxurious and rooms are dated and with poor decor. On a second day, my husband entered one of the showers only to discover that the tiles have fallen off from one of the walls, offered room move but as we already unpacked and only had 3 more nights we didn’t bother - who knows perhaps in the other room the ceiling would’ve fallen on our heads… Beach club - this was the reason (or the beach itself) why we wanted to stay there as it is one of the few gay hotels that are located in the beach. The club itself was nice and service friendly with decent choice of wines, cocktails, food and so on but the most off putting thing was the constant presence of ultra loud music! Ocean waves? Pelican singing? Forget it! Boom boom from the speakers from opening till close! If you’re looking for a peaceful place, this isn’t it! Restaurant - if there is one serving dinners we haven’t found it, the only restaurant like place is on 13th floor serving breakfast and we had that included - or so we thought! Only 3 options on the menu are included and that comes with one (1) cup of coffee and a juice (also 1). Anything else is an extra - so is your breakfast included or not??? On the last day I went up to get a coffee (the one included in my breakfast) only to be charged for it ($55) as if you want it “to go” then it’s not included. I managed to explain that this is the cup I would’ve had if I’d stayed for breakfast and all I wanted was the coffee and to leave that dreadful restaurant and the hotel! In a summary, this could be a great place if the owners would invest in proper staff training, a bit of TLC for the rooms and not constant feeling that whatever you do, you’re being watched! This is not luxury whatsoever, Claridge’s or Savoy or The Peninsula are luxury, this is a mediocre 3 star hotel that is pretending to be something better than it really is! Won’t be coming back or recommending it at all!

Very nice facility and courteous staff. The hot Mantamar pool, the quaint infinity Eden pool area and the Top sky bar. Also fantastic view at the gym. Room is very comfortable. Make sure you check the room to have ocean view if you have the choice. It’s better than I was expecting honestly. I feel this is closer to a 4.5 star facility (like a good intercontinental) than a 4. Room is quiet at night and the bed is super comfortable. Will def return to this hotel if I am in the area again.
