This
"Hospital"
is
private
and
an
absolute
joke.
DO
NOT
GO
HERE,
ESPECIALLY
IF
YOU'RE
A
FOREIGNER.
**Please
Read
this
if
you
are
considering
a
hospital
in
Puerto
Vallarta**
I
have
worked
in
healthcare
for
many
many
years
and
my
mom
recently
became
very
sick
in
Puerto
Vallarta
and
unfortunately
didn't
have
travel
insurance
while
she
was
here.
An
obvious
oversight
on
her
part
but
we're
all
human
beings
and
we
all
make
mistakes.
She
was
transferred
by
ambulance
to
Joya
Hospital
at
the
recommendation
of
a
local
doctor.
I
knew
it
would
be
costly
but
8,200
pesos
to
take
her
5
minutes
down
the
road
in
Mexico
when
they
literally
picked
her
up
and
dropped
her
off
(with
no
treatment,
no
IV,
no
oxygen,
absolutely
nothing)
is
outrageous.
I'm
a
former
Paramedic
so
while
I
expected
it
to
be
expensive,
I
expected
them
to
so
SOMETHING.
Upon
arrival
at
Joya
Hospital,
they
immediately
asked
my
father
for
a
20,000
Peso
deposit,
then
within
2
minutes
later
told
him
50,000
and
then
a
couple
minutes
later
100,000
pesos.
Finally
when
I
arrived
5
minutes
later
and
went
to
see
what
was
going
on,
they
asked
for
500,000
pesos.
This
was
all
before
they
would
even
start
ANY
TREATMENT
AT
ALL
and
all
while
my
Mom
was
still
very
much
in
need
of
immediate
medical
treatment
and
sitting
in
a
room
alone.
That's
over
$30,000
Canadian
dollars
in
2022!
I
asked
the
guy
if
he
knew
how
much
money
that
actual
was
and
if
he
realized
how
utterly
ridiculous
that
ask
was,
especially
within
minutes
of
us
arriving.
This
was
all
while
the
Paramedics
are
asking
for
8,000
pesos
as
they
wouldn't
leave
the
hospital
without
payment.
We
eventually
(after
roughly
an
hour
or
so
of
us
trying
to
sort
this
out)
agreed
to
pay
20,000
pesos
for
them
to
start
treatment,
as
my
mom
was
in
very
rough
shape
(She
couldn't
move
on
her
own,
couldn't
speak
or
respond/was
confused,
was
not
sure
where
she
was
and
had
obvious
fluid
building
up
in
her
lungs).
They
ended
up
wasting
our
time
for
10
hours,
only
giving
my
Mom
oxygen
and
a
CT
scan
in
the
time
she
was
there.
No
IV,
no
blood
tests,
no
diuretics
to
reduce
the
fluid
in
her
lungs,
no
actual
treatment
other
than
oxygen
through
a
nasal
cannula,
not
even
a
re-breather
mask
which
would
have
been
the
proper
treatment
given
the
condition.
We
finally
asked
to
be
moved
to
another
hospital
(That
they
said
was
POSSIBLY
cheaper
but
the
treatment
would
be
poor).
They
agreed
because
we
wouldn't
give
them
the
full
500,000
pesos
deposit
they
wanted.
They
wouldn't
even
give
her
an
IV
without
that
money
even
though
we
had
given
them
20,000
pesos
already.
We
ended
up
paying
9000
pesos
for
oxygen
and
a
CT.
We
were
told
that
the
ambulance
transfer
would
be
free
since
it
was
between
hospitals
(as
it
is
in
most
countries)
and
of
course
the
ambulance
tried
to
charge
us
again
when
we
arrived
at
the
next
hospital
(Regional
Hospital
Puerto
Vallarta).
The
moment
we
arrived
at
the
general
hospital,
they
took
her
in
and
started
treating
her.
It's
obviously
not
as
nice
of
a
hospital
but
the
quality
of
care
is
all
that
really
matters
when
in
medical
distress.
The
Doctors
have
been
amazing,
kind,
supportive
and
have
treated
all
of
us,
especially
my
Mother
with
the
respect
and
care
you
would
expect
at
any
normal
hospital
in
the
world.
We're
all
human
beings
and
while
I
understand
that
this
is
still
a
business,
the
atmosphere,
the
treatment
and
the
staff
at
the
Regional
Hospital
has
been
10000%
better
than
at
Joya.
Joya
Hospital
is
a
tourist
trap,
plain
and
simple.
EXTREMELY
OVERPRICED
and
while
it's
nicer
looking,
I
wouldn't
recommend
anyone
go
to
this
hospital
unless
they
hate
the
person
they're
sending
there.
*This
is
not
meant
to
be
a
dig
against
the
Doctors/Healthcare
Staff,
we
having
nothing
but
respect
for
the
healthcare
workers
in
Mexico
or
anywhere
else
in
the
world.
We
were
even
told
that
the
Doctors
transfer
between
all
the
hospitals
here.
Just
don't
ever
go
to
this
hospital
unless
you
are
fully
covered
by
insurance
and
even
then,
I
would
suggest
going
elsewhere
just
due
to
this
inhumane
money
greedy
tactic
they
employ.
