Quite crowded when we were there. A bit dirty toilets and a sound of electric mower operated by a nun disturbed a bit. I liked the church and the 2 small stone carved houses I which Daniil and mihail lived

In the 15th and 16th centuries, some monks from the Cozia Monastery withdrew, taking refuge in huts and wooden houses, living in complete poverty. Among the hermits retreated here were the hermits Daniil and Misail, whose cells dug into the rock can still be seen today. Hieroschimonah Misail erected a small wooden church dedicated to the "Entry into the Church of the Mother of God." Thus, the Turnu Hermitage was founded.

We parked outside this monastery for one cold night in early April 2023. I knocked on the door and was greeted by several monks, beach body ready they were rocking that spaghetti 🍝. After the main course they invited us further within the complex. Despite my mother's advice to never go with a monk to a second location, I cast caution to the wind and followed them down a long set of circular steps that ultimately led to an underground chamber roughly the size of a football stadium. The room was wall-to-wall packed with concentric circles of dancing monks - lithe and agile, their movements were dizzying and illusory in a way that was a real treat for the senses. At their centre stood the head monk, whose name was Monk (named for the popular TV series, this was one of life's funny little coincidences). His palms outstretched at his sides, he turned his head to the ceiling and screamed "I needa one dance!"

The Turnu Monastery on the left side of Olt, almost across the water from the Cozia Monastery, but you go up an easily accessible and beautiful cobbled road through the trees, breathing the fresh mountain air and admiring the beauty of the landscape, the renovated old church and the illuminated cells of the monks dug into the rock of Sun!

A piece of Heaven near Calimanesti. A place where prayers brought Heaven on Earth.

Monastery Turnu is a great placeto visit as well as a starting point for hiking to Cabana Cozia. Car park, toilets and relaxing garden. There are religious ceremonies, church and monks living here, but as we don't speak Romanian we visited for recreational reasons.

A beautiful monastery tucked away in the woodland of the national park. Go to see the man made cave dwellings of the founders, hewn out of solid rock and the 1676 church erected in their memory. So peaceful and exceptionally pretty. The early church was superseded in 1901 by a larger church which has its history in the wall paintings. A new church is currently being built which would appear to be even bigger. Well worth a visit to relax and recharge your soul.

An ordinary monastery. Yes, it's interesting to watch, but you shouldn't expect anything beyond the usual. On the territory there is a cave in the stones with icons, where, judging by the smell, people go to the toilet 😞 There are toilets near the monastery, but they are very dirty and there is a strong stench, as if they never clean them there. Another monastery is most likely being built nearby; construction work is underway.

A wonderful place with the kindest munks. We just arrived and immediately they offer us to come inside to have a meal, and know the place.

Turnu Monastery is a place of great religious history. Nowadays when the Orthodox Church is acting like a Cosa Nostra family and started building ugly nasty concrete buildings, it's a shame...

Just fell in love with this monastery and the silence within. The monks are welcoming, the view is gorgeous. I highly recommend it.

A very nice place to visit, unfortunately the road has to be walked (as a pedestrian) on the side of the road, because there is not even a narrow sidewalk or a railing to protect the tourists walking. Not everyone drives around in a car, and the roads from Calimanesti-Caciulata to the Monastery, Lotrisor Cascade or Castru Arutela are tourist routes, they are done on foot

👍👍 Nice walk from the parking place. Big free parking and the visiting fee is only 5 lei. You can get pretty close to the Waterfall. There is also another trail from there, but I'm not sure where it takes you.
