Do not trust the first image on google. This is not a super upscale place with white table cloth. Don’t leave Rostock without visiting the “Rostocker Fischmarkt.” This is one kind of place, and you won’t regret it. You stand in line at the counter, and you can order a delicious fish dish and something to drink. They give you a number. With the number and the drink, you find a place to sit. It is expected that you sit on tables with strangers. This is a perfect opportunity to meet the natives. After a short while (for me half a beer) your number is announced over the intercom, and you go to the counter to pick up your food. The fish is a fresh catch, and the presentation is beautiful. I had cod with cabbage. The flavor profile was absolutely amazing. The fish was lightly breaded. While in line and at the table, I had some talk with original Rostockians. This was an absolute fantastic outing. You won’t regret it.

While visiting Rethwisch Börgerende from San Francisco, CA, I had the desire to cook some fish. Since the local stores in my area had very little selection, i went to Google for recommendations. The Rostocker Fischmart was on the list of recommendations so i drove over. The parking was plentiful and the foot traffic from customers was active. Once I entered, i was surprised by the amount of seafood both fresh and frozen. The prices on some items were high but i can only think of my home prices in SF. California. I eventually chose fresh Dover. The Dover was fresh and ready for the dinner table. The store has many sauces for fish as well as beer and wine. The store also sells sushi mats for rolling and chopsticks. I will be returning to the store.

Perhaps the best place to have fish& chips east German style!

Very delicious food. I had Fish and Chips and it tasted really good. All is very fresh and they cook your meal after you ordered it, so you have to wait a little bit. This is kind of the only negative point, that you often have to wait long and the prices are a little bit higher. This is okay, when you see the point that all is self made and fresh.

We ordered some cold fish without knowing….Both of us can’t handle that so we ordered another one which is warm….good place still. Worthy to pay a visit but you’d better know fishes a bit better. Don’t be like us! ㅠㅠ
