Not a general hospital so you have to buy their insurance to receive emergency inpatient services like brutal infections and such, why did the Gov'n allow this? almost all hospitals should have a ED that takes obviously sick or infected patients, Lord help many of us.

I was with my mom in emergency room and she's pain was getting worse and worse even though we are among the first ones but they were calling the people who come after us and we waited there for around 3 hours and still they didn’t call us. I think you guys should improve this service. And I recommend you all that give rating as they serve you. So they can know how their staff serve us.Hope you fix this soon.

Not a bad place to have heart valve replacement surgery. The team prepares for your arrival months ahead and they monitor your status constantly. They do a great job replacing heart valves using less invasive methods that hurts A LOT LESS and makes recovery fast. It's life saving and you will live longer. This team has perfected the procedure, and even high risk people can survive the operation and have more time with their loved ones. As a Kaiser member, you will have a low co-pay, and walk out feeling better in a few days. High end medicine for sure. The doctors and nurses are friendly and explain everything to you and your friends and family. The nurses do an exceptional job caring for patients. Your friends and family can hang out in the various waiting areas and enjoy a nice view. "The food here is also not that bad" :-) says a 75 year old patient.

I am in the ER at Kaiser, Geary Blvd, SF with a family member as I write this. I must say that the care here is going well and the staff is caring and professional. I have always experienced excellent care at Kaiser for myself, for delivery of five babies, and ER care for all of us. Also an excellent Cardio Unit is at this location, and successfully pulled my cousin through a very difficult and tricky heart surgery situation. Sympathy to you who were not so well treated. But overall, we are fortunate to have this particular Kaiser Permanente facility here in San Francisco.

Great if you're healthy, but transitional care can have loopholes. Two suggestions based on two separate experiences: 1)Please make sure if a patient needs hospice care after discharge that a nurse is available within 24 hours of the patient arriving home so the patient and the patient's family don't have to suffer for a day not knowing how to administer pain meds or adjust position to alleviate labored breathing. Also, 2) PLEASE find a way to insure that elderly dementia patients who cannot speak for themselves and cannot dress themselves are not discharged from ER wearing only a hospital gown and a blanket. I know the medical staff is busy, but it's a dignity issue that no one seems to own. Possibly volunteers could help? Thank you.

Buyer beware - avoid at all costs! They misdiagnosed and dismissed all symptoms. You have to force them to consider further testing. Majority of their doctors do not have good bedside manner. I finally canceled my plan and upgraded to a smaller private practice

Kaiser has some terrible policies that endanger patients. In our case, my wife had an infection during labor and received two doses of antibiotics and then they stopped prematurely. When I asked why not continue for a full course, I was brushed off and said their policy was one dose after delivery (with no regard to how many prior doses). My wife's infection came back within a day of when we came home, and she had to go to emergency and get the exact same antibiotic but for 48 hours this time. That this is their policy is ridiculous. They are endangering new families and breeding restant bacteria. One doctor I complained to even argued the infection would come out with the placenta, so this policy made sense. Are you kidding? Change this dangerous policy immediately!

2 years ago I had a surgery at Kaiser Permanente. I woke up from surgery crying in pain. The nurse informed me that when he went to get me a bag of morphine there was none left. I was very nice to the nurse and said it was okay. I started to cry in pain and he then proceeded to tell me he's never seen a patient react that way despite knowinging I was just cut open and didn't receive my proper pain management. I mentioned this in a survey that Kaiser sent as a follow-up to my surgery. I also made a comment that I was struggling with an eating disorder and the same nurse responded "you're not skinny enough to have an eating disorder". I am a very skinny and small woman so that comment shocked me. I really wish I would have got the nurse's name to reported him because that comment was unprofessional and factually wrong. Two years later and it's still haunts me, to be told that my pain wasn't real and that a disorder I've been struggling for 4 years isn't real by a medical professional. In addition to my awful surgery, a year later I was also was seeing a nutritionist and a therapist through Kaiser to work on my eating disorder. I missed one appointment with a therapist. They never followed up or checked up on me to see if I would like to reschedule or to make sure I was okay. I also had an appointment with my nutritionist the following week but they never showed up or sent a follow-up email saying to reschedule or apologizing for not showing up for my appointment. The eating disorder program was new when I first started seeing them so I hope that they got it together and not fail their new patients as they failed me. As soon as I had an option to go with a different insurance provider I did because I never want to step foot in a Kaiser hospital for surgery again. I know some people who have had great experiences with Kaiser, but unfortunately the days I went in for care I had medical professionals who were unprofessional.

Father went through surgery earlier in the day. We had to rush to the ER because he had extreme chills and a low fever. The surgeon told us to go to the ER immediately if those symptoms appear to make sure there weren't any perforations or infections. We've been waiting to see the triage nurse for more than 3 hours when they originally told us it would take 1. It's such a huge disrespect to someone who went through OP, barely ate the past few days, who is also dehydrated and exhausted. I cannot recommend this place as they do not care about you.

Have someone at all times with you to be your advocate as you go through the chaos of Kaiser. So many mistakes! You put your trust in Tax funded care only to find that if you don't speak up or pay attention - you'll just slip slip through the cracks. My son fell and had two head fractures and brain bleeds. They took multiple scans of his head and never of his back until we had to return two days later after being discharged. Staff constantly came in and out of his room during his two visits without any clue of who he was or what his care entailed. He could not rest. Aftercare included phone numbers that were unresponsive. A scheduled video call was never fulfilled. One doctor prescribed ibuprofen to help a case of thrush (likely from multiple CT scans) which is a blood thinner and could have worsened his brain bleed. Every service he was receiving or scheduled for came with an immediate price tag giving us the impression his insurance was nonexistent and putting us in a position of not being able give him adequate help when, for instance, to get a prescribed MRI we had to pay $1,000 upfront. The advice of an experienced lawyer was to avoid the complaint department because the HMO is Kaiser - so basically a conflict of interest. So my basic lesson is - even though you may get a cheap medical plan via the tax payers of California, do your homework before choosing Kaiser as your go-to. Also, by all means, have someone with you to help navigate your care because you may end up in worse shape. Two stars only because we met some awesome staff but they are seriously hampered by such a mismanaged system. Instead of just providing a star rating, please contact your local representative and let them know that this kind of care should not be publicly funded without greater scrutiny and guidance.

Terrible Update *If you have cancer please don’t come here. They won’t give you the best cancer medicine. Go to another hospital or Cyberknife etc. If you have cancer do not go here!!!!! The oncology department will refuse to treat your loved one. They don't believe in progressive treatment. You are a number to them. They will not try hard. They do the bare minimum. Dr.Seto neglected treatment of my loved one. I had to beg and her and the oncology team to give cancer treatment pill. Once given treatment, my loved one improved drastically. She improved so much that she was sent to a rehab facility/nursing home. Once there she caught up pneumonia and was sent back to Kaiser. After pneumonia cleared they refused the cancer treatment pill again and they died 9 days later. fdb

I had a procedure done by doctor Gupta. The GI department and I just want to say I had a great experience. I was very nervous but since they checked me in from the admitting department to the nurses everyone made me feel good. I had a good experience and for future procedures I wouldn’t mind the drive. Way better than my last procedure in Kaiser vallejo with the doctor. Thank you Dr Gupta and team

I had really scary experience with Kaiser over the holiday season, which caused my vision loss on the right eye. Viral infection was misdiagnosed as Stye eye. I wasn’t able to get an appointment until two weeks later with someone who doesn’t seem to know about eye problems. After my vision loss, people are scared of taking over my case, I went to the office in mission bay, once the receptionist hear my situation, she started to act strange, made phone calls, and switched my doctor, in the end, I was left to a doctor who was about to leave soon. She is very young and nice enough to accept me.

I can’t say enough about how positive my experience was. From the moment I entered the building I was impressed. I was greeted by the friendliest security guard who clearly loves his work. He helped me navigate my way to mammography, where I was checked in promptly, filled out some forms and was on my way. My exam was a breeze, painless, thorough - I felt like I was in good hands the whole time. Funny side note the exam gowns got an upgrade. Loved them. Thank you to KP for encouraging me to come in for my exam and making the entire process so seamless.

Overall ok. The doctors and nurses are great, but the security check-in staff at the entrance need to be more professional and courteous. I came back into the facility as a visitor for a patient I came in with, and I still had my visitor sticker on. I was also named as the patient contact, so you'd think it would be as simple as verifying on a clipboard or somewhere, but nope, I had to wait in an apparently imaginary line like everyone else. No sign designating a line, no arrow pointing where to start, just some guy shouting at every person coming inside to line up backwards, like we're exiting. To our surprise, there was another check in employee who sat behind the desk goofing around and talking it up with a security guard, while the guy shouting was busy, she took the next person who just walked in the door. No communication whatsoever, and oblivious to our situation. If I had a choice, I would not go there again.

Efficient, quick and organized. We went for a pregnancy emergency on the day after new year and the ER experience was the best that we have had.

This hospital is Big chain hospital, like a Macdonald. But website systems are very poorly. Website has link for Support center and Chat. Both doesn’t work. Kaiser needs more useful website for patients. This is terrible. Seems like nor customer service, only care money. Kaiser website is only available for make appointment and pay bill.

Slow as ever. Ive heard not so great things about Kaiser. Diverse staff. Cool. Okay... but 3+ of waiting for morphine? knowing it's been said many times by different nurses etc. Chronic pain means nothing. It's unfortunate. [ UCSF ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️]

We've been a Kaiser members for years and we are so happy with the healthcare services and staff. On a recent visit my 5 year old daughter loves her pediatrician. Would recommend!

Asked how much blood work would be at the front desk. They said it'll be 100$. I paid upfront and went on my way. Months later I was surprised to find that I was billed an extra 187$ for the procedure I already paid for. Apparently it was actually a 600$ procedure and my 400$ a month insurance only decided to cover a portion of it. Don't trust Kaiser. No amount is enough for them. They'll take any opportunity to screw you out of your money. You've been warned. Get everything in writing.

I don't know why I am just leaving this review but 12 years ago I had a seizure when I was 16 on a plane. Never had a seizure before. I was rushed to hospital and Kaiser released me early and I had another seizure in the taxi. I woke up in the hospital when it happened a 2nd time and they put me up in the nicest room it was on the top floor looking out. I got better and got on medication for seizures. It's medication I have to take lifelong but I've been seizure free for those 12 years (hopefully it stays that way). Thank you! I developed other health issues unrelated now but I am so happy I don't have to worry about seizures.

The patients in numerous locations have been treated poorly. I heard nurses laughing at someone who was screaming for help. Another facility did the same thing to me. Please treat the patients with love and respect. Good "bedside manor" is super important when hiring. Patients need more "specialized care" tailored to specific needs. I say this with love...not hate🙂

I hate to give the entire facility this rating, but the plastic surgery department at KP SF is a mess. My first surgeon gave me the wrong size implant for my reconstructive surgery after my mastectomy. His response was effectively “it happens”. As a result of his negligence, I ended up needing additional surgery. And given my traumatic experience with Dr. Winnie Tong for a follow up reconstructive surgery, the months I spent trying to get help, and the total lack of care about resolving these problems from KP generally and the plastic surgery department specifically, I feel like I have to warn other breast cancer patients to avoid the plastic surgery department and especially Dr. Winnie Tong. (My first surgeon is no longer there). I ended up going to KP Oakland’s breast surgery center for my third reconstructive surgery, where I had a much better experience. The rest of my doctors and team have been fantastic.

It was a nice experience for me. One of my friends from the meditation practice got sick and sent to a hospital. The nurse really cared about her there gently. The doctor was patient too. But I am glad that our community of practitioners were active to take care of her each day and that gave her confidence. I would say besides the professionals, the family, friends are a big help to her. And it needs integral treatment. She left the hospital without a major surgery. We were glad.

I feel the connection with the patient is nearly nil. This is especially true at 2238 Pharmacy. I have got the brush off on the Prescription Refill Line...operators are inexperienced and didn't understand what I tried to explain several times. Was switched to talk to a pharmacist who treated me like I was trash. The whole experience has ruined my day and now my evening and I thought someone would contact me on my message page on kp.org. No one has. What it always feels like is Kaiser Permanente doesn't have enough people to assist patients. There are good people in the Pharmacy Dept. and good doctors in general ....but good luck if you get the wrong person, which is a 50/50 chance.

Great care, emphasis on prevention, great electronic medical records, super efficient for me as a working mom - I can email the doc in the middle of the night instead of during the work day; and I don't have to keep track of all the preventative care because Kaiser will!!!

😐 I received an automated text message today asking me to write a review, so here it goes. My visit was both pleasant and absolutely horrible. Let’s see. I arrived at 4:00am having an asthma attack.
