End of discussion, this is probably the NO.1 you "can not miss" activities when you're in town of San Francisco, only through this way, you get to enjoy the hilly portions of San Francisco, also appreciate the fun of cable car. Interestingly, they admit tourists to stand at the step of cable car, though seemed a bit dangerous πŸ˜… I choose to stand at the end of cable car, the riding was certainly fun when it goes up and down the hills, but still recommend you to do this. (Please be notified that they only allow 2 passengers to stay at the end deck of cable car)

This is an amazing attraction of San Francisco. This 150 years old cable car goes around the old city of San Francisco. Tiny streets and homes are so pretty and take you back in time. The ticket price is 8 dollars. You can buy it online or from the office nearby. You can buy 1 way or two ways, also you have to pick the direction, as there are 2 of them. With this ticket, you will have 10% off for ghirardelly chocolate shop. On the other end of the route, the ticket office closes at 4 in the afternoon. But cable car works till 11 night so if you are late you can pay cash at the car itself. It's really worth trying! Recommended!

Historical turnaround cable car starting point takes you around San Francisco hills to pier 39. It’s one favorite place for tourists visiting city by the bay.

This is the cable car stop where you can ride San Francisco's famous cable car. You can see and ride some cool old trains.

Must-see stop on the cable-car experience You can see the operators manually turning the cable-cars around to make the return journey up north. Visitors can stand pretty close to the turnstile but there is a waist-high barrier.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do- way back in the 1870s when the cable car was invented and the Clay Street Hill Railroad began public service on Sep 1, 1873. While the SFMTA has several modes of modern public transportation, riding the cable car and at the very least, mastering a "standee" (standing on the sides while holding onto the handle bars) is quintessential San Franciscan. Do it safely and within your own ability though. The sight and sound of the cable car are as common as the squawking seagulls peppering the skies of San Francisco. While the Bay Area local hardly pay attention to the clickety-clacks and dings anymore, the experience of riding the single-ended cable car (at 8 USD one way) is a must. Powell & Market is one end of the current line where the staff has to turn the cable car around for its return trip through the rolling hills of San Francisco and onto Powell & Hyde.

If you are in San Francisco you also have to take the cable car. An absolute highlight. At the end of each route, the cars are turned by hand. E.g. Powell Street at Union Square. You should plan for waiting times because the trains are small, popular with tourists and therefore there is a lot of rush. You can pay directly to the conductor on the train or you can buy a day ticket at the counter at the turning points. That's a little cheaper. You can also buy a ticket via the app or travel with the Clipper Card. If you get on the way there is a chance that you can ride while hanging outside.

It's definitely worth it. You just have to do it and see it. But the weather should be dry.. not in Winter to San Francisco

The cable cars are well known in the streets of San Francisco. They operate differently from trams and buses that are powered by overhead electricity wires. Cable cars are pulled along their tracks by cables that are installed below the streets and are manned by a gripman, whose job it is to control a clutch-like pulley device inside the car, where jaw-like clamps grab onto the moving steel cables underneath for the car to move (we learnt all of this at the Cable Car Museum!). It seems to take quite a huge amount of strength and coordination, of the gripman, to perform this task and you can watch him/her at work while enjoying your cable car ride or just hanging out of it, literally!

Must do activity in San Francisco!! Best thing we did - can’t imagine anyone not getting on the trolley!! Really made me smile the entire ride (standing in the boards outside holding on tight!) 😊 Super busy on weekends! Line could be as long as a two hour wait! We went early in the morning (8:30am) and waited about 45 mins (we waited so that we could stand on the running boards in the front of the trolley) - a couple trolleys went out 1/2 empty- so if you don’t have to sit outside, you can walk up and ask to sit inside. Absolutely loved the trolley ride! Purchased a single day card ($24 unlimited rides on any transportation) and it was worth it!!! A single ride is only $8. You can buy a ticket at the ticket booth right next to this turnaround station. We ended up using our day pass to also ride the Muni train out to the ferry building and then to the pier and then rode the trolley back again! When we rode the trolley back from Ghiradelli Square the line was ridiculously long- so we went to the front of the line and asked if we could sit inside - and they said yes, so we boarded right away. Riding the trolley was my favorite part of visiting San Fran!!!

Very nice touristic experience of San Francisco. There are 3 lines, the one I chose went from Union Square to Fisherman Wharf. It's a good idea to get on this line because you can walk downhill towards Pier 39 area. If you choose one of the other lines you end up having to walk up a very steep hill to Lombard Street. The single ride ticket costa 7usd. The unlimited ride ticket including all the other Mini transports is 23usd. People ride the cable cars kind of hanging on the side of it. If you do so, you have to be aware of the cars parked on the side of the street because in some points it gets kind of dangerous.

Good fun, even when not riding. Great to stroll around and see the cable cars turning. It takes more (human) power to turn than you might think. When admiring the cable car, take a look back toward Market St to see a sign with directions to several major cities in the world (including distances). Price: $8 single ride, $24 day pass (all Muni transport)

I loved riding in the cable car! I would recommend this to anyone visiting San Francisco! It’s as if you were taking a tour through Downtown to Pier 49! Loved it! It is also cheap to ride it! Make sure you get a round trip ticket to get back to your parking location, Cable Cars only run until 11pm and may end in multiple locations but the drivers will make you aware of this. 100% recommend riding this 100 year old cable cars.

The cable car is one very popular tourist spot in SF! The experience is well worth it, and I recommend grabbing the handles and hanging on for the ride.

The cable cards are a real adventure. Instead of paying the single fare you should take the day-ticket of the SF public transport. If you don't want to wait long at the end stations on crowded days you should walk along the cable car way and try to jump on a couple of stations later.

Peek through the passenger queue at Powell and Market Sts to spot cable-car operators leaping out, gripping the chassis of each trolley and slooowly turning the car atop a revolving wooden platform. Cable cars can't go in reverse, so they need to be turned around by hand here at the terminus of the Powell St lines. Riders queue up midmorning to early evening to secure a seat, with raucous street performers and doomsday preachers on the sidelines as entertainment.

Super fun! A must-experience itinerary for San Francisco travelπŸ‘We stood at the outermost edge of the Ding Ding car, like a rock district, riding from Powell all the way to Fisherman's Wharf.

Road for the experience it was exciting to see how this cable car operates but the wait to board was a bit long. My family and I still enjoyed our ride sightseeing along the way!!
