Most Hakka places are known for having 1-2 great dishes that people go for. With China Cottage, it has a large variety across the board, specially with a couple of unique flavors such as 88 or Mumbai. Definitely recommend their Manchurian Fried Rice and Veg Pakora 88 (or chicken option). Chilli Chicken and Schezuan Chicken are great too. Cottage Special Soup is delicious too. Overall, if you have a big order, I’d go here.

We took take away, we ordered Manchurian chicken and bamboo beef. Both tastes average on taste. Its a halal restaurant.

The best chili chicken around these days. I always order it extra extra spicy or else it is very mild. Ask for some extra green chili peppers on the side for an extra kick. Lunch specials are a great value. Very polite service.

A long time customer (from when it was originally China Cottage) - rest assured the service and quality of the food is as good as before the name change. The restaurant is still owned by the same family. We purchased the chili chicken and it was amazing as usual.

Finally got a taste of authentic Hakka food after many many years! We ordered a huge selection of dishes and each one was purposefully served with chef's love - super delicious! The portions are great and we packed the leftovers in takeout boxes. The owners are amazing people, very hospitable and we felt a warm welcome ❤️ Dorothy was super kind to offer us free deserts at the end - we were almost 15 people total, stretching over 3 tables. One of the best Indo-Chinese restaurants I've been to. Great food and service. Lots of choices. Courteous staff. I'd definitely go there again. Ample parking space nearby. Clean and good ambience.

First time in Pepper Hakka & Thai Cuisine and YOU have to go! It’s the cutest little spot with amazing food. The Hakka noodles combo is to die for. IT WAS FIRE!! The service we received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. They made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience. Love you peeps..

While I liked the China Cottage name better, apparently it is new ownership so they changed the name to Pepper. Either way, the menu and food appears to be the same as before. Lunch specials are great and comes with choice of hot and sour soup or spring roll. As a Hakka place, the meals do have a nice kick to it so order accordingly! Pad Thai comes with peanuts and chicken (no shrimp). Large portions, even for the lunch specials.

Been coming here for 16 years when it was previously known as China Cottage. The new owner is very pleasant and the food is amazing! Same menu but the food is extra fresh and tasty - the same dishes I’ve been having for years taste extra flavourful. I highly recommend this restaurant especially the chilli and hot garlic chicken, veggie pakoras, and Hakka fish. Best Hakka restaurant which I commute a far way just to have!

One of my other OG favorite Hakka spots in Toronto! Something about the taste of their food is what makes them different compared to other nearby Hakka restaurants. In my recent experience, I called in for a pick-up order, and the gentleman on the phone was very accommodating when placing the order on the phone. While the restaurant used to be called China Cottage, their food taste and service quality have always been consistent. The restaurant ambiance has always been very low-key and chill. Overall Generous portions + service. My go-to things to get here are their Egg Fried rice & crispy beef & chili chicken 👌

One of the best Hakka restaurants to visit, their fried rice dishes and the chicken sides are the good ones to have any day! The best time to visit is during the lunch weekdays, they have the $10 lunch combo which includes rice, a side and an appetizer. Very clean environment and very friendly service!

Got the chilli chicken….horrible. No taste. Tasted like it was rushed. Definitely wasn’t fresh because it came out within 5 minutes. ……should be ashamed of yourselves!! HORRIBLE! There was no chilli nor did it have any salt …just an over powering taste of ginger. I had to throw it away.

Great place for chinese food . I visit here specially for there red sauce veg chopsuey which is amazing sweet n tangy. There veg bombay noodle is proper street styled noodles. Recommended place.👌🏻👌🏻

Have been eating here for years and it used to be so good. But since last 2 times, I have been getting extreme food poisoning from their food. I had diarrhea and kept vomiting my guts out entire night. Also my pee has been red in color ever since. My husband also suffered from the same situation. My baby whom I nursing kept hysterically crying in ain the entire night. They need to be reported. The rating displayed for them is from when they were china cottage. Now they are just garbage and a source of sickness. Food tasted old by the way.

****CAUTION**** Come at your own risk.. Looks are very much deceiving in this instance. Everything in this picture looks amazing right ?! Well it looks good and even tasted good, however, it left us with a day full of washroom stops, feeling weak and nauseous, to not even being able to function for the rest of the day. Not sure what went on here on our visit, but seems to be some kind of poisoning as every single person we came with left with a symptom or two after eating their food. Terrible experience coming from a Hakka spot, especially since most Hakka restaurants leave us wanting to come back. I've tried this restaurant when it was called China Cottage and it was not bad, but this is ruining their reputation as I heard it's the same owners. When I came back home and was reading reviews, it appears other people have experienced if not the same but similar symptoms from their visit to this restaurant. I really hope this place closes down. People come in, paying good money to be left feeling sickly. DO NOT COME HERE! This is not the same China Cottage that it used to be!

Prices and portions are decent but the flavor is lacking. We tried Singapore noodles and Manchurian chicken and both were bland.

The food here used to be good when it was still managed by China Cottage. We recently ordered Chicken 88 and they were almost tasteless. After a month ordered again and still tasteless even my wife who ordered Manchurian chicken didn't taste as great as before. It's disappointing to not come back to one of my fav restaurants for years due to this reason.

Man this place use to be so good I left the entire food as is because it wasn’t fresh at all for some reason just wasted 60$

Like a lot of the reviews here this place used to be good under China Cottage but has gone downhill under Pepper. Order 4 dishes - Crab Corn Soup (very salty to taste and had to be binned), Chicken Lollipops (they had a ration of 90% flour and 10% Chicken), Fish in black bean sauce (the fish was stale and not edible) and mixed fried rice (again excessive salt but just about edible). Another strange thing was the staff at the counter after taking my order did not seem very happy with the fact that I chose to sit at a table and wait for my order (15-20 minutes) even though the restaurant was empty and not a single other table was occupied.
