the park located at the Palestinian A area. the place is pretty small, but very unique. most of the Hordus palce is under the groun for protecting the place. ther is a theatre outside. some tables at the entrance without cover, so it's not convenient to eat there.

Would deserve more than 5 stars. A true architectural wonder. Could easily spend days here exploring the tunnel system, the beautifully saved palace remains, and last but not least the sweeping view. Let me note that Herod's Tomb was discovered in 2007, pretty recently. Also, please remember: the tour could be strenuous. Carry water and do not underestimate challenges.

I’ve visited a couple dozen of the national parks while in country. This one was one of my favorite. The videos in conjunction with the ruins really gave perspective on Herods rule and conquests.

A powerful scene of the place. I was not aware of this place before I came to visit Israel and was surprised by its grand design and construction. Will learn something more about Harold and the history in his time.

Powerful place! The place is restored and very historical, showing the history of Herod. Place has strong gates with cameras, if you are arriving on your own, just wait a couple of minutes and they will open it, it's a safe and good place to visit.

A very interesting place! The ancient palace of King Herod. Recently discovered archaeological finds, including an ancient amphitheater. The object is located in a national park behind the so-called "green line" dividing Israel and Palestine.

Amazing palace and fortress from Herod's time. Herod built many palaces in Bethlehem, Jericho and Jerusalem, but this palace was named after him. He also was buried inside it. From the top of the mountain, you can have a breath-taking view

I've visited Herodion during my stay in Bethlehem. It's located in a national park behind the green line dividing Israel and Palestine. Once your at the top, there are some old aqueduct tunnels you can walk in that lead you back down. Such a very cool ancient site!

Close to Jerusalem, well organized, love the new visit timing to avoid overcrowding (take the first or second slot), parking was 100 meters from the entry. Kudos to the guide who made sure that I could walk uphill (using walking canes after a knee operation).

Historical place, Herod the great who arder to kill all the babies under two years old trying to kill the new born baby Jesus, he also build a castle for himself in this location at Judea wilderness area near Bethlehem and he ordered his slaves to hide it by moving the mountain which was beside the castle and cover it with this moved mountain to hide it from the enemies. One more information that from the top of it you can see 3 main buildings, the temple in Jerusalem that he build to please the Jews, Masada near the dead sea and the patriarchs tomp in Hebron (Mechpelah Cave) where he build a holy place for Jews to pray and worship God.

(Translated by Google) Neat, clean and restored. You can spend about two hours there having fun. Beautiful view combined with antiquities and history. It should be taken into account that there are a lot of stairs and may not be suitable for people with walking problems or disabilities. There is no need to worry about the location or access to the place. Feeling safe.

Herod the Great's huge palace to show off his wealth to his Roman governors. Extensive and just as worthy as a visit to Masada.

  • 4/5 חיים . 1 year ago on Google
Very interesting historically. The newer parts (tomb and underground tunnels) are very neat. No shade on top of the mountain and a lot of stairs- so bring a hat and water bottle, not stroller friendly. Can use more tourist friendly signs. Other than that- recommended.

World class attraction. The government agencies have been working hard to restore the citadel on the hill. And it's becoming more fascinating from visit to visit.

There are two movies here, and the one in the old theater is wonderful. There are a lot of steps to get up to the top and back down, but it's worth it to see all they've excavated of the fortress and mausoleum.

Takes between half an hour to an hour and a half to complete a self-tour. Two nice videos are displayed along the way (second one is really nice). Plenty of stairs to climb. Beautiful surroundings. A great visit during the winter. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a wonderful few hours at Herodion - about a 20 minute drive from Jerusalem. My kids can actually see the Herodion from their school so it was fascinating to be there up close. Tickets must currently be booked in advance through the parks authority website (parks.org.il). We began with a short walk to a very impressive new audio visual show which was worth the wait (we should have got there earlier!) and takes place in a relatively newly excavated section of the site. We then joined a Hebrew language tour with an extremely knowledgeable and amusing guide - it was a little long for the kids but I found it extremely interesting to learn how Herod went about this incredible building project (he has a bunch of others too). Interesting, outdoors so COVID but not weather friendly - make sure to bring a hat and water in the summer and a sweatshirt or jacket in the winter.

The place of Herod the Great's burial and one of his most impressive palaces, this site is well worth a visit. From the top you can see Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. The tunnels down to the cisterns are very extensive and neat. It is a bit of a hike, so be prepared. Maybe save it for a time when it's not super hot.

Herodion was an amazing site to visit. The views from the top were amazing. The walk up is pretty easy, just a gradual 10-20 minute climb. Once your at the top, there are some old aqueduct tunnels you can walk in that lead you back down. Very very cool, but watch your head! The summit can be extremely windy. Bring a jacket.

(Translated by Google) We visited Herodium after many years. We were a bit worried about driving in areas c but there was no problem. The base of the site itself has a small military base and feel completely safe. The place itself is truly stunning, with a sonic light spectacle surrounding the theater and Herod's tomb. The archeological buildings are preserved to a high standard, and the tunnels of the Jewish rebels are accessible and illuminated in the belly of the mountain. There is an entrance desk with a small kiosk for snacks and soft drinks. Most worthy !!
