Keçi Kalesi or Goat Castle, is situated on Alamandağ Hill, in ancient times known as Gallesion. This hill stands in the vicinity of the town Belevi near Selçuk and is clearly visible from the İzmir-Aydın highway. The name of Goat Castle is explained by legends; the ruler living in a fortress went for a few days, along with most of his troops. During his absence, the enemy troops approached the castle and were waiting for dusk to launch the assault. To confuse the enemy, the defenders fastened candles to the heads of goats that were found inside the fortress. In conjunction with goat horns that looked like helmets, they managed to achieve the effect of thousands of soldiers waiting on the walls to repel the attack. Because of this mystification, the enemy troops retreated without a fight and the castle was saved. Available information on the history of the castle is quite sparse and often contradictory. The suggested dates for the castle's construction vary from the 3rd century BC to the 14th century AD. Its erection is attributed to the Hellenistic rulers, the Byzantine Empire, and the Seljuk Turks. Most likely the castle was built in the 3rd century BC and then rebuilt and renovated several times. The castle could serve as a point of defence for the nearby city of Ephesus, as it was located near the road leading to this famous city.a

(Translated by Google) A spectacular place with a 2000 year old pathway. If you return to the right without coming to the Belevi town by Izmir, you can follow the road and leave your vehicle under the medium-sized tree there when you return to the right at the end of the journey. After that, you can produce some. You ask why? Because the castle looks so far away? But the walking distance is about 2 km up to 300 meters. If your water burnt at least 2 lt is beneficial. Since there is no doubt that you will be very hungry, I would recommend that you take a butcher's shisha at your side and take advantage of the natural surroundings and make use of the springs. There is no recipe for believing that you can look at the cars passing from the highway in the silence and enjoy the taste of watching the civilization from a distance. An ice cold drink next to this fatigue is not bad at all. My choice has been barley water. Believe me, I can not even find a cord here. If you walk about 600 meters further west from the goat's stairway, you can find wells, home bases of old settlements? I can say that there is a great view in the place that overlooks selçuk side? From now on, do not ever think of a descent. You can be with your car for about 45 minutes?

Very nice place for treking with friends. Be aware that there is only one safety road to go up and down. Only expert can try others ways. The place some years ago was very dirty because people was lefting too much plastic bottles and bags. We and some other peopke, every time we go up, come back with a bag full of trash so today becomes a more clean place. Take care also the water drinking each 10-15 min so the body will keep working properly

Located at 300 meters from Alaman Mountain, directly opposite Belevi Village, Keçi Castle is at the crossroads where the İzmir-Tire-Selçuk (Ayasuluk) road, which comes from the north and goes south, crosses the Küçük Menderes plain. The castle, which is located in a strategic position, was built in the Hellenistic period (300 BC-20 AD) and was later used by the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottomans. At a point overlooking the Menderes Plain, it is a surveillance and control castle that keeps the Sardes road under control. It was used for scouting the Sardes trade route and for predicting and informing the attacks to the Selçuk Castle from the north. Rubble stone and brick were also used in the castle, which was made of cut stone in a rectangular plan. Lime mortar was used in the wall weave during the Byzantine period. Although its walls were formed by carving limestones, hardened lime mortar was poured in order to increase the durability. The castle consists of two parts, inside and outside. The round wall rises on both corners of the west face and the square wall rises on both corners of the east face. More precisely, only round walls could survive. There are warehouses to the north of the inner castle. About 1 Km northeast of the castle. Unfortunately, the water cisterns in the distance are in ruins. (Original) Selçuk’a 9 Km., Belevi’ye 2 Km. mesafede, Belevi Köyü’nün tam karşışındaki Alaman Dağı’nın 300 M.’lik zirvesinde bulunan Keçi Kalesi, kuzeyden gelip güneye giden İzmir-Tire-Selçuk(Ayasuluk) yolunun Küçük Menderes ovasını geçerek çatal yaptığı, kavşak noktasındadır.

(Translated by Google) My curiosity about the Goat Castle started on my way from Izmir to Nazilli during the semester break. My desire to be there and see the castle up close was never over since I was a child. However, it was possible to reach the castle at the age of 40:) Reaching the summit where the castle is located is not difficult. Stones laid on top of it and the historical road paved with stones once in a while will guide you; however, it would be more appropriate to come here with one of the trekking groups or to visit with someone who has experienced this place before ... Perhaps this is a tradition;) (Original) Keçi Kalesine merakım,sömestir tatilinde İzmir'den Nazilli'ye giderken başladı. Çocuk yaştan itibaren orada bulunma, kaleyi yakından görme isteğim hiç bitmedi.Buna rağmen kaleye kavuşmak 40 yaşımda mümkün oldu :) Kalenin bulunduğu zirveye ulaşmak zor sayılmaz .Patika boyunca yer yer çalılara bağlanmış şeritler, sprey boya ile işaretlenmiş kayalar, sapmaları önlemek için çatallaşmış yollarda üst üste koyulmuş taşlar ve arada bir karşınıza çıkan taş döşenmiş tarihi yol size kılavuzluk edecek;ancak buraya doğa yürüyüşü yapan gruplardan biriyle gelmek yada daha önce burayı deneyimlemiş biriyle ziyaret etmek daha doğru olur... Burayı ziyaret edenlerin birçoğu dönüşte Şirince'yi de ziyaret ediyor.Belki de bu bir gelenektir ;)

A challenging hike that pays off with amazing views. The hike took my group of experienced hikers about 90 minutes from Belvari station There is lots to explore in and around the castle. Hint: the trail entrance is well marked from the road. I tried to follow Google Maps and got myself lost on my first attempt.

(Translated by Google) Kızılhisar Castle (Red Fortress), also known as Keçi Kalesi or Goat Castle, is located on the Alamandağ Hill, in ancient times known as Gallesion. This hill rises near the town of Belevi near Selçuk and is clearly visible from the İzmir-Aydın highway. The name of the Goat Castle is explained by two contradictory legends. According to the first of them, the ruler who lived in the fortress left for several days with most of his troops. During his absence, enemy troops approached the castle, waiting until dusk to assault. To confuse them, a few defenders attached candles to the heads of goats that were in the fortress. Combined with goat horns that looked like helmets, they managed to achieve the effect of thousands of soldiers waiting on the walls to repel the attack. Thanks to this mystification, the enemies withdrew without a fight and the castle was saved. The second version of the legend of the Goat Castle tells the story of the siege of the fortress from the point of view of the attackers. They were to wait until dusk, attach candles to the goats on their heads (here history repeats itself) and rush the animals up towards the fortress. Her defenders, confused by the sight of goats, which they took for the huge attacking army, decided to surrender the castle without bloodshed. Available information on the history of the castle is quite scanty and often contradictory. Its origin dates back to the 3rd century BC until the fourteenth century CE, and the construction is attributed to Hellenistic rulers, the Byzantine Empire and Seljuk Turks. Most likely, the castle was built in the 3rd century BC, and then rebuilt and renovated many times. The castle could serve as a defense point for nearby Ephesus, as it was located near the road to this famous city. Najprawdopodobniej zamek zbudowano w III wieku p.n.e., a następnie wielokrotnie przebudowywano i poddawano renowacjom.
