When I think about Cairo I think about this place. It is old, authentic, raw, and captivating. The architecture and the old streets are lovely. However, this experience is not for everyone....at times I felt claustrophobic and it's constantly crowded. The streets are very narrow. And you need someone local or a guide to help you navigate the streets otherwise you can find yourself lost in some strange ally. Generally it's safe and there is a metal detector and police at the entrance. Motorcycles roam around near pedestrians which is dangerous..(for this reason I would not recommend coming here with kids) There are lots of shops for souvenirs but I have to say that they inflated their prices so much that even after an 80 percent haggling experience they were still overpriced. I regretted buying from there as I found better bargains at the airport. It's a little bit frustrating to have to turn down a lot of the street vendors, but if you are polite and nice with them they will let you be... I love watching people there and chatting with shopkeepers. I can't wait to go back again.

We had the best time here. Bought all the goodies. A great stop for any souvenir shopping you may want to do.. comparable to a flea market in the US. Only better. Such a neat experience.

A large souk surrounding the nearby mosque. Sellers are bit more pushy then you're used to at other places but still nice overall. Make sure to not go in alone. Even with private security things can go sideways quickly we've discovered. And go in the early evening when most local people are not in the streets. Far less busy.

Such an experience especially if you visiting from the west! So crowded packed with people and any sort of vehicles that is so chaotic but at the same time so beautiful with all the shops selling anything you can imagine! Butchers selling meat, fruits herbs and vegetables and everything you could imagine! Definitely an experience and definitely a must visit!!!

An all inclusive bazaar that is located in the old town with narrow lanes full of vendors. You can find anything including souvenirs, spices, clothing and materials and food over here. The pricing is marked higher as all tourists visit the place but if you can bargain, you can find a good deal.

A bazaar that is very colorful and interesting. Like other bazaars prepare to haggle to get best price. We went mid-late morning and it was great as not many people yet and some stalls not open yet. We stopped by a very old coffee shop where celebrities like Morgan Freeman visited.

One of the best markets in the entire old Cairo, I would say you can definitely buy anything from here with good prices and also this place is good for just hanging out eating and drinking and enjoying the beautiful vibe of the authentic Arabian culture. There are museums here for which you have to buy tickets and they are open from 9:00am to 5:00 pm in evening so if you are willing to go there this is a must visit place for you as a traveller.

after a short 'window-shopping' on this very touristic shopping street (premium souvenirs, London price), our tour brought us upstairs to a small podium where smaller souvenir shops were around. these shops looked more 'basic' and their pricing was a lot more 'understandable', and they fitted a lot better into my wallet and into my luggage too!

I like the authenticity of this place and a great way to know more about the people and culture. One of our local guides brought us to a 'canteen' and let us have our dinner there - it's fun to eat with the locals and eat in a local way.

Crowded bazaar with many shops, restaurants, cafes etc. There are historic places like Al Azhar university, Tomb of Imam Hussain in the area. Be prepared to haggle and rude servers / shopkeepers

I really liked this Bazaar, a lot of really good stuff, expect to pay a lot more as a tourist and they basically won't negotiate unless you have an Egyptian national doing your bidding like we did. The constant hounding of sellers was the least here compared to any other place we went which was a VERY welcome relief!

Don't wear white shoes, go with an outfit that has lots of pockets and zippers if possible, pretty safe I would say, just the extra security from thieves. You can never be too safe.

Whats a lovely place .. very nice but very crowded... you can buy souvenir from here, but if you going to buy anything, you have to argument with the seller,as they give very high price. You will smell the history and civilisation here, and will enjoy too much

As a tourist, what an experience! Yes, the people at the market try to push you to come in. Yes they will single out tourists, but you are never in any real danger here. It's an amazing experience to just walk through the bazaar and haggle for some trinkets to add to your collection. The place is a maze of corridors that I enjoyed getting lost in

Fascinating look at what life in Cairo is really like. Go deep into the Arabic market and Turkish market and get away from the touristy spots. We got more culture here than the rest of our stay combined! Locals were extremely friendly and it was not remotely dangerous. Highly recommend checking it out to get a sense for contemporary Egypt.

The massive bazaar can be confusing to navigate. But the locals are very helpful. There are small and large shops and stalls that sells everything from food, drinks, souvenirs, clothing, jewelry, housewares, and much more. Just enjoy yourself and barter with the vendors. It's a great culture experience.

If you like shopping, negotiate all day long prices and be on the middle of the crowd and car horns, this is your place! I could recommend avoid Fridays as it will be very crowded and go by uber/taxi as I think you will not find any parking near. You can find scarfs, jewelry fragrances, very nice lamps and all you can imagine. Old antique store as well with books and decorations.

I’m a regular there, and it’s super nice. As long as you know how to bargain and pass hasslers, you can have a great time. It’s more than a bazaar; an open museum, a historical place, restaurants, cafe’s, and much more ! Great for photography lovers. One of the places I recommended for visitors to Egypt.

How could I not give this joyous bazaar 5 stars? Left with a jewelry box, spices, chess set, & candle holders. Obviously bargaining is a thing, so be prepared for that. Most stall owners/staff are polite (only 1 chased us down the alley, which I think is pretty good going).

Beautiful souk with lots of souvenirs and antique shops lined next to each other. Very clean and well maintained. Prices are a bit high so prepare yourself for some bargaining. A lot of the shops still have the old Mamluki architecture which gives this place a historical kick. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for something super touristy then this is for you. We came here after already spending a week in Giza so by the time we got here we knew what was a good deal. A lot of what we saw here was way over priced and the shop people are super pushy! If you feel like haggling then this is the place for you. I have it 3 stars because at night it really is pretty to see all the lights and all the shops.

Interesting place. The bazaar has loads of aggressive vendors. But probably a good place to buy souvenirs. There is an American style restaurant there that has good food at reasonable prices. I have a photo of the outside here. It's called Naguib Mahfouz Coffee Shop. There will be a wait, but it's worth it.

I felt honored and humbled to be able to visit the Mosque, listen to the call for prayer and then spend some time at the market. Make sure you stop and have an Egyptian pancake. Walk for a bit, find good deals on souvenirs, and then stop for tea with mint midway through the market. You will find anything you are looking for, from feed to clothing to shisha. This place has it and at a good price.

Of course you heard before if you want to get some souvenirs for your friends in your country Go to Khan el-Khalili St That's not because it's the most famous historical street But because it's full of a lot of stories all over ages You will find something make you feel comfortable and lovely in this place despite of it's very crowded but there is something make you want to take pics of everything in this place So if you want to go to some place express about alod and modern Egypt This is the right place Take care when you want to buy something because there are a lot of shops sell the same thing that the other shop sell it but in an expensive price so ask more than one for the same thing And don't ever buy from the first one. I hope you enjoy the place and I go there a lot of you need any help you can contact me ?

This place is fun if you like crowded market places. Gives you a hint how the markets were may be a 100 years back. This place is ancient market place bustling with life, taste and glitter. Famous for artifact shops, jewelry, very old eateries and cafes, hokkah and some exotic products such as camel wax and stone souvenirs. You must try the refreshing cane juice, hibiscus tea, sand coffee and falafal. I really loved the place next to the mosque where local people come at evening when the sun goes down to sit, chat, sing and rejoice. Now few words for those planning to visit this place - BARGAIN HARD, THEY WILL QUOTE EXTREMELY INFLATED PRICES. TALE CARE OF YOUR STUFF CAUSE MARKET IS WHERE THIEVES FISH FOR PREY. Avoid beggers. Keep local currency. Best is to buy a local simcard and take suggestions from Google. I made a local friend here who gave me many useful tips. He even took me to a souvenir shop where the prices were dirt cheap. We just meat at an open cafe and started talking. You all can try this as well. Try not to talk to females for obvious reasons.

Good market for souvenirs from Egypt ,lots of pharaoh items of course all replicate nothing is original, however you can still find some T Shirt 👕 that all 100% Egyptian cotton ,carpet,Kleems and many other items that one can choose from ,full of things to be given as gifts. Prices can be very high if one does not hackles with them ,in a normal circumstances one can get anything you wish for for less than the price given by the shop workers

The bazaar is rustic, grand for photography. Things that are not so great is the way the staff of the shop approach tourists. More or less, you will be harassed if you are a woman. Fear not; you can tell them to shoo away. Find the shop with an older shopkeeper; they are respectful towards the woman.

Great historical place to visit. There are historic mosques, markets and cafes/restaurants. The place can get pretty packed so be prepared for that. The streets inside don’t allow cars but you’ll find the occasional trucks and motorcycles. You’ll find stores for gold, herbs/spices, galabeyas/traditional clothes, pharaonic jewelry, antiques, instruments, religious books, and so much more. Perfect place for souvenirs. Don’t be scared to haggle lol. Try to catch it close to sunset to catch all the mosques and stores light up. It’s almost a different vibe from going in the morning.

You can find a variety of clothes, perfumes, papyrii and souvenirs of all types. Be prepared to haggle 4 times less than the quoted price. The sellers in this part of the city expect a hard bargain. Come up halfway and a couple more tenners. I was very successful with this method.

One of the most magical places in the world. You can feel and smell the beauty of orient in it. Alot of middle aged historical 🕌 and monuments everywhere. If you decide to buy some souvenirs you have to hassle. Most of products are just copy and not original.

A variety of things are available in this market like clothes, bags, shoes, ornaments, art, souvenirs, etc. and also relatively cheap! Salesmen will try to persuade you, especially if they see you looking at something, but if you say no and carry on, they won't force you or become ill mannered if you don't buy.

The place very beautiful for people coming from overseas and there are plenty of things you can buy as gifts for your loved ones, one thing is you have to be careful of cheaters and all the time bargain for anything you buy 😀 ; if they say 50 Egyptian pounds give them 25 😀 Never pay in dollar

  • 3/5 Traveler 9 months ago on Google
This is a good souk in Cairo. Not far from Dow town at all, shouldn’t cost you more than 40 pounds with U ride. Very big area, so if you want to walk around most of the stores it could take up to 1 day, but of course most vendors are selling the same items. Some aggressive vendors and people along the way, just tell them no if you are not interested and ignore them if they keep on going. Spices, fabric, cloth, souvenirs (Chinese mostly), houseware….etc Quite hot and stuffy.

  • 4/5 Mark P. 6 months ago on Google
We enjoyed visiting this famous shopping area in Cairo, but it seemed a little too much like many other places to shop that we had visited already. The exception would be some of the shops that had amazing and unique handmade items like jewelry, pottery, furniture, and household items that we didn’t see anywhere in the tourist shops around the monuments and temples. The shop owners were eager to sell, and some were a little pesky, but we just kept walking and didn’t interact with them. Most were fairly respectful of us if we did not show interest. It’s a crowded and busy place most days. Watch your belongings like your wallet, purse or backpack as there are some pickpockets around. Also, many children begging or trying to sell you something. Just keep walking! There are many good little cafes and coffee shops to enjoy here, and some great local food.

  • 3/5 Chaitra C. 6 months ago on Google
Sunday shops are closed, there are very few old shops which sell authentic items. This is one of the major markets where localities shop as well. The pictures on internet paints an attractive image of the place but that is only the lamps shop which is just one part of the market (Photos added). We later got to know that many old shops which used to make one of its kind products is largely gone. Very few shops which are hundreds of years old and sell authentic products do exists but you have to know where to look for it. There are some small restaurants within the market, few people playing instruments and singing along brought a local vibe to the place when we were shopping. Many items are delicate and are prone to break so ask for a good bubble wrap packing if you buy something. Most important one, bargain the price for anything and everything. Start at 30% of the rate they mention and go upto 50% max. Sometimes they themselves quote a price and reduce it immediately saying they are giving you a discount. Ask for a lower price than that. Try the trick of walking away in case they don't reduce. Sometimes they come back to you with the price you asked for.

  • 5/5 AbdulRhman K. 5 months ago on Google
Situated in a traditional hub of local shops, tea houses, and shisha cafes, this bustling area is known for its lively atmosphere. Be cautious of pickpockets due to the crowds, but the overall experience is pleasant, accompanied by vibrant live music.
