(Translated by Google) The Museum of Natural History in Sibiu is an institution with a museum profile founded in 1849 in Sibiu. The current building of the museum was built in 1894-1895 in the former park of the Theater, on Cetății Street no. 1. Due to the increase in the number of collections, the space that housed the museum fund became inappropriate and it became necessary to build its own building. Funds for the construction of the new building were raised through donations and contributions from various political and scientific institutions, banking and public companies. In the autumn of 1894, in the former park of the theater, the construction works of the building for museum purpose were started, according to the project of the Cluj architect C.W. Fr. Maetz, originally from Mediaș. The festive inauguration of the museum took place on May 12, 1895. In the spaces of this building were brought the collections of the Transylvanian Society of Natural Sciences. The building was built in the style of the late Italian Renaissance, with three levels (basement, ground floor and first floor). It was renovated between 2006 and 2008.

Was impressed by the variety of things to see and by the useful information available in both Romanian and English. It was over too soon! Indeed, it is not very large, but enough to get absorbed by it. Didn't like the fact that I couldn't pay by card (even though there was a sign there saying that you can).

A beautiful place in Sibiu. Definitely a gem. A visit is totally recommended, especially if you have children. They will be fascinated by the animals. It's a small well hidden place in Sibiu but amazing. The building itself is amazing.

Great location and very child friendly. It has a lot of exhibitions and collections of different taxidermized animals. I particularly liked the birds and the ecosystem exhibitions. Definitely recommend to visit

I was expecting more exhibits, more information. Nonetheless it's enough if you have only 30 min-1 hour max available.

A great place for kids. It has reproductions of human settlements, from the stone age. The dinasour skeleton is the centerpiece, for sure. It's cool even for an adult. But, for your average adult, the most interesting thing is the center hall ceiling.

A very interesting and entertaining visit. Silviu, the guide, stayed with us the whole visit and answered all of our ignorant questions, in a professional, but also funny way. You can see mammoth fossils, found in Sibiu, and a lot of stuffed animals, reptiles, all kind of birds, bears and all the small mammals you can imagine. On the first floor you can see a collection of beautiful butterflies and other insects. Overall, a small, but complete museum.

(Translated by Google) A very interesting museum. Not very big, but chic. The exhibits are very interesting, and some of them also have information (not the other way around, but many are missing). A place that the little ones and not only with certainty will love (Original) Un muzeu foarte interesant. Nu foarte mare, dar cochet. Exponatele sunt foarte interesante, iar la unele dintre ele si informatiile (nu de alta, dar da multe lipsesc). Un loc pe care cei mici si nu numai cu sigurnta il vor insdragi

(Translated by Google) I would give more stars than I can ... but I still stay at grade 10 with many pluses. A wonderful, quiet place, hospitable hosts as you rarely meet. Perfectly maintained exhibits, in an almost real setting. Worth a visit ... you will be left with pleasant memories. For us, this museum is associated with the city of Sibiu ... a beautiful place.

But for what it presents, it is a very beautiful museum. A Museum that does NOT stand to it's name, that is a natural history museum. It resembles a lot to the Antipa's arrangements from the homonymous museum in Bucharest. However, it is as most a zoology museum, most of the exponates ( very few compared to other similar museums, displayed in two MODEST rooms) are still living animals. A rather spicy price for what it offers. I've seen private collections with more samples.

  • 4/5 Adam Z. 5 years ago on Google
This place is super cool. Very old-world feel, lots of creepy crawlies in jars and old taxidermied animals. It's small (really just one floor) but it's also very cheap. Worth popping in to take a look, especially for kids. If you have a kid who really likes animals they could have a blast looking at all the specimens, but even the less interested would still get a kick out of it.

Very cool little museum. Worth to check out. It's very interesting. Also cheep to visit and it's open on Sundays too. If you're around Sibiu and love science it's worth to have a look. It will be very short maybe in 1 hr you're done but also depends how passionate you are :P

It's like a small Antipa museum in the heart of the country. The staff is friendly...also the dioramas are great and the Jurassic Park theme garden it's pretty cool.

  • 3/5 Raluca R. 1 year ago on Google
The building that houses the museum is beautiful, look up to the beautiful paintings on the ceiling. Overall the museum is small, just one store to visit.. Few pieces, some in chloroform. It was OK, nothing remarkable. However, the kids will definitely enjoy it.

  • 4/5 Mihai B. 1 year ago on Google
Interesting, but small museum, half an hour being enough for visit. Too petty that since few years there are tracks of rain infiltration on the top floor and apparently nothing is done to be fixed, especially since the building is a historical one. Compared with similar museums from bigger towns, this one might disappoint, but I still think kids would appreciate it.

It is a really nice place to visit, especially if you are passionate about. We had the honor to connect with one of the employees and shared some more insights and lots of interesting details about the exhibits. Regardless, it is a really nice place full of history and in good shape exhibits, I recommend to allocate at least an hour for the whole tour.

Sorry, the museum is awesome for its size, but our experience was bitter,as the doorman/guardian told us to leave the premises with a whole half hour before the closing of the museum...So,we did see only a few ...Bitter,because it was planned long before to arrive in the city, my son was really excited about...So,only one star for our experience, thou the museum is really nice..

I really liked this museum, great for kids, many exponates in, well conserved. I hope will soon have an inside access to first floor for strollers or an elevator, it was difficult with a 7 year's old and a babby in stroller, but the museum guard helped me with the stroller, so 5 stars.

It is a nice museum, very small. Contains a collection of stuffed animals, some of them very poorly, with no story behind them. There are few bones of mamuth and a skeleton of local bison. My kid (8 years old) found some animals he never saw in real size. There is a small collection of dinosaurs, not in real size, which was both interesting and disappointing for my kid. You pay 13 RON for an adult to get in the museum and yard, kis are free. Alternatively, you can pay 2 RON per person to visit the yard only. Photos allowed. The whole visit took us about half an hour.
