I have thought long and hard about this review. Firstly, the staff are hard working, polite and offer a great level of service and they would merit five stars. Secondly, the situation of the hotel is excellent, Norwich city centre is ten minutes away, the Broads twenty and the coast only forty hence making it a great place to explore Norfolk. The rooms in the hotel are both clean and well decorated. Now we come to a major problem the quality of the food and the way it is presented. We ate in the dining room three weeks ago and the standard was fine, last night however, this was not the case. The menu is over three weeks old and the chef’s seem to have fallen out of love with it. Give them a chance to add a dish of the day or add a specials board. Do SOMETHING! Being proud of my county I want all visitors to leave with a desire to return. Would we stay here again, maybe but would we eat here again? DEFINITELY NOT!

We had the best stay here this weekend. All the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable especially Charlotte in the restaurant both in the evening and at breakfast. Food was all served quickly, and was very well presented, I had the most amazing looking and tasting cheesecake. Room was beautiful and very clean, facilities gym, sauna and pool were all clean, well attended and a made the whole experience more enjoyable. Thank you We will definitely be back

Christmas lunch set menu was an absolute shamble. It took 3 hours for 3 courses courses to be served. The food was cold. One of the selling points of the beef main was a yorkshite pudding. The dish came without one, and when this was pointed out to staff I recieved a cold aunt bessies yorkshire pudding, this was an £80 meal, what an absolute joke. In a room full of over 100 guests there wasn't anyone running the bar, and when asked if we could order drinks we couldn't because food was being served. The manager was rude and sulky when confronted with the facts of the poor service and when we could finally orded drinks the under manager was sulking at the bar. The meal was an absolute joke, we all left hungry and disappointed. The business was happy to take our money, and serve us cold food with portions the size of childrens meals.

An undeniably impressive facade. The interior has some lovely features too. The rooms are a little tired in places and none of the extractor fans in the bathrooms seemed to work for our group (part of a golf trip with 10 others). The food was lovely, due to size of our group we preordered and as far as I'm aware everyone got what they wanted! Slight juxtaposition between noisy laddish golf groups (yes we were one) and families clearly trying to enjoy a quiet evening (and yes, i did feel a little sorry for them at times!). Good staff and decent breakfast. Golf course is not long but an attractive and well kept parkland course. Bunker bar makes for a good post round spot.

Lovely stay all-in-all. The rooms can be a bit of a maze so book to be closer to your party if you think you might want to be. A map is provided and there is signage but it can be a little confusing at times. Plenty of choice for breakfast including gluten free options and both hot and cold options. The bar was great with plenty of seating outdoors for the nice weather. Decent price for very good cocktails! My room needed a bit of TLC but otherwise, had everything I needed and the bed was very comfortable. Few minor issues with room and service but staff did sort things out eventually- I understand the hotel was extremely busy during my stay. WiFi throughout was great which was a bonus and plenty of parking, food options and amenities. Fabulous location!

Mixed views here... we booked 2 rooms (family and double). They were in separate wings, which is not the issue. The family room was modern and had all the necessary amenities. But the double was more tired and needed some TLC. We stayed for 2 nights and had dinner both days from the hotel restaurant. The first night was total chaos! Took 2 hours for us to receive the starters and another hour for the main. Emma, who served us, was ever so lovely and we felt for the serving staff. Another table was delivered a burger, but without the burger!! All the dishes we had lacked flavour. We heard the issue was due to some new chefs. They only charged for drinks. The second night dinner was as if we ate in a totally different restaurant. Food was on time and tasty.

We have visited Dunston Hall on at least four occasions over the years. Stunning building set in beautiful ground belies the obvious neglect of the rooms. We paid £125 for a room. The hose on the shower had a large split and soaked the floor within minutes of use. Mould in the shower itself. Door frames and doors in need of repainting. And generally dated decor. On saving grace was a very comfortable bed. Service in the bar was quick and friendly, but Pravha lager didn't taste right and only one rose option. Breakfast was okay, but staff seemed more concerned with clearing tables than refreshing the buffet options. Despite mentioning issues on checkout we had to push very hard for any kind of refund. I'm afraid standards have really slipped and we have almost certainly made our final visit.

Really impressed with our trip to Dunston Hall; the service from the staff was amazing from our arrival to checking out. We were given a room in the eaves which was stunning, decorated nicely and with lots of tea & coffee for the morning. Had a lovely view of the driveway. It was also really quiet despite there being a large wedding party. We also went for a quick wander around the grounds too. Really enjoyed our stay, just felt a little disappointed by the price of the drinks however I would definitely stay again! Pool facilities are also really nice, as was the sauna (if you like the kind of thing, which I don't!!)

Will and Ben customer service at its best an absolute asset to the hotel. Such lovely guys. After I had a really bad day, let down by another hotel late at night got a room here. They were nice listening to by bad story, I even got a room upgrade, not to mention a beer even though it was late. Lovely room to a high standard, great facilities. Value for money and good location. 😁👍

Reception staff very good, friendly and polite. Bedroom King size double, Clean and bed was very comfortable. Evening meal, staff very polite and helpful. One small complaint ordered medium rare steak but it came served rare. But this was soon rectified by the manageress of the restaurant in a friendly and positive way. Will return in the future.

Spent a lovely night here at the weekend, the room was comfortable and the hotel is generally well presented, it's clear in some areas that work needs to be done though. The staff are all nice and treat you well, we had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the results were mixed! the breakfast was very good and we all agreed we liked this, the dinner was average at best, they was 7 of us with not one of us really enjoying the main meal (that said the deserts were nice) maybe we just got lucky though? It was overall a good break though

Fantastic Golf hotel. We've known Dunston for many years and it's special for many reasons. The Manager David & his fab team really know how to look after you and the owners have been investing in the public areas which look better than ever. Well done ✅ highly recommend a golf break or Wedding here.

Currently spending 4 out of 5 days stay at Dunston Hall, our first thoughts were WOW, we booked in, pleasant receptionist, however no offer of helping to get our bags to our room, so we struggled with the trolley and small lift. Unpacked our clothes, two hangers missing in the wardrobe, bedroom phone didn’t work, popped down to reception, repeated same process 30 minutes later. Booked into restaurant for evening meal, fellow quests arrived and even though we had ordered prior to them we received our meals some 10 minutes later, now we ordered a Caesar salad and a burger, the chips turned up stone cold and the burger was just warm , the chips were replaced. Went to iron our clothes, no iron .. two trips to reception resulting in a 25minute wait. Went out for the day, returned to the room; no bath towels, no hand towels no bath mat, no answer from phone, two trips to reception 30 minutes wait, house keeping turned up with two bath towels, then two hand towels then the bath mat. I’m English so there wasn’t a language issue. Went down to the pool complex, we asked where the massages were undertaken, just down the corridor, the place is a maze, yes we found the location, but “no come this way I’ll show you” In conclusion it’s a beautiful place but lets itself down with the lack of good old fashion service. Regards John Evenett

We spent a lovely night at Dunston Hall as part of their summer sale experiences where myself and my partner both received the Relax Spa Ritual massage. The double room was HUGE and very good value for money! The staff were very accommodating to our vegan dietary requirements at dinner, despite there only being one marked option on the main menu. Beautiful grounds especially in the sun! We would definitely stay again :)

What a wonderful spot to spend 3 days away. The staff are fantastic, the location for seeing the sights excellent as are the breakfasts and dinners. Coupled with this are the spa facilities (pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi) which provide a great way to wind down at the end of the day.

  • 3/5 Chris G. 8 months ago on Google
Good, but not great. Stayed just for the night. Our room wasn't ready upon arrival but the busy reception team found us another room and complementary drinks for the wait. Impressive on the outside, bit inside a lot of wear and need of updating. Building is huge and hard to find our room, others said the same too....direction confusing. Pool was not warm and changing rooms and showers a bit grim, toilet at reception worse....like a bad pub toilet. Food at dinner very hit and miss, and staff a bit clueless and overun. Breakfast was great though!

  • 3/5 Steve W. 8 months ago on Google
The location is wonderful, the building externally looks beautiful as it is set in spacious grounds that include a golf course and golfing facilities. However, as we were there just for the hotel the rooms for such an apparently grand hotel were very disappointing, the two we had needed were well overdue an overhaul. What service we had during our stay was average, nothing I wouldn’t expect from any hotel.

Staying for 2 nights whilst on a course. The grounds are stunning, and even though the weather has been less that desirable, it hasn't lessened the beauty of this place. The rooms are a good size, with a good shower and lighting / mirrors. The actual hotel section with all the rooms is a bit of a maze, with various offshoots but still lovely. The facilities here, such as the gym and the spa are absolutely brilliant. We've made use of the pool both nights, it's just truly relaxing and perfect for some well-being. We were asked to choose our dinner options for both evenings before the course started. Whilst the food was OK, it could have been a bit better. Breakfast and lunch though have been wonderful. We were having breakfast and lunch in the main restaurant area, but dinner for the delegates was served in a different area. Here I would like to applaud the service we received. A special mention to Kyle Stone. Went truly above and beyond to serve us and help us out with a couple of requests and issues that we had. Absolutely stellar member of staff, and has made our entire dinner experience. Thank you so much.

We just spent two lovely nights at Dunston Hall for our 2nd anniversary. We were apprehensive about returning because we had a magical honeymoon in one of your Manor House suites back in 2021 and it was so perfect we didn’t want to ruin the memory. But this time it was absolutely amazing too! Massive thanks to Sophie on reception for sorting out a room change for me when certain unexpected needs arose. We wanted to comment that all of the staff couldn’t do enough for us and everyone we encountered provided absolutely excellent service without question and tried to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. One thing that wasn’t quite as great as we remembered unfortunately was the food. Such a shame you’ve stopped doing a Sunday carvery! The breakfast tea pots have been replaced by a drinks machine and the hash browns and fries were all triple-cooked to within an inch of their dark brown lives. But nothing could affect our amazing stay. Tears were shed when I got home!!!! We plan to make it a yearly anniversary trip. Thank you everyone!

We had a big group visit of 13 and all of us loved it. They easily catered for us at dinner and the food was nice, also reasonably priced. The hotel itself is one of the best. The golf course was amazing and the rest of the facilities were good too. Make sure you book early to get the best price!

Not really a 4* hotel but looks it from outside. Breakfast very good catering for all tastes but sadly the food in the terrace room is below standard & overpriced for what is on the plate. Stayed in a terrace room away from the main building for4 nights. Very comfortable bed, good shower & large screen TV. Patio outlook from our room poor. No hotel information booklet in room. No info on how to use room phone to contact reception or alter air con. temperature in room. No rubbish bins in hotel or grounds or ashtrays in outside seating areas (except golf cafe)resulting in many cigarette ends on floor. Restaurant menus remained exactly the same throughout our 4 night stay. I would say this hotel is best suited to 1 or 2 night stays. Swimming pool & gym excellent.

This is a hard one to write, went for a two night break with my husband and son whilst they played golf. I had the joy to experience Norwich one day then the spa the next day. Once we got into our room we were looking for a spoon that had not been left with the tea making facilities. We were shocked to find an open condom out of its packet in one of the drawers ( I don't think or hoping it had not been used) then another drawer contained lots of sweet wrappers and crisps. Went straight to reception. They were very helpful and tried to move us but was told there were no more family rooms. We could have moved to a suite but would have meant our son sleeping on a put up bed. We said not to worry but could this be cleaned asap when housekeeping were back in. We were assured that this would be done and a spoon would be brought to the room. Also told that she would talk to her manager but didn't hear anything from them. Room was cleaned the next day but still the drawers had not been checked and cleaned and still no spoon. I had to go back to reception to ask for the drawers to be cleaned again. Was very apologetic and they were cleaned sometime after. It would have been nice to have had an apology from the manager. When my husband went to check out this morning still no mention of it. Just worried what else are they missing when cleaning the rooms. Other than this we did enjoy our experience, the food was lovely and staff were very friendly. The ladies in the lilac room were very helpful and the massage was amazing. The only downfall to the spa is if you are using it to have a chilled peaceful day. It is used by the hotel guests and can get a little bit busy and noisy.

28.12.2024 Dirty, cold room with radiator not working. For some reason housekeeping keep opening the window when I'm out which makes no sense esp with the radiator not working. Have reported to reception but it took 3 days for them to fix it. Breakfast was OK, not as fresh as could be. Daughter and granddaughter joined, £15 and £7.50. Staff were pleasant and efficient but tables felt grubby and coffee wasn't very nice. Room was at the back overlooking the fields. Nice and quiet, only bonus.

Stunning views from the outside with lovely long driveway. Once we checked in, we were not shown or given directions as to where our room was. Our room was difficult to find, very poor signage. Room was cold, no robes or slippers. Beds uncomfortable and hard. Dog barking all night in the next room. Breakfast was a greasy fry up, or fruit, yoghurt, melon or tin berries. Had to queue for 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee at the coffee machine. Swimming pool was cold, no fun for the children. Slow staff in the bar area. Didn't know what they were doing, half the time. Spa was a disappointment. I booked a full body massage at The Lilac Room. I could either have hands and arms or neck and shoulders, not both!!! Back included. Essential oils were not used. Absolutely ridiculous. We cut short our stay and checked out earlier. Overall a very disappointing stay. We will not return or recommend.

From reception to housekeeping it was a great stay. The food and service in the restaurant in the evening was fantastic. The waiter and waitress Ben and Emma were very friendly and made us very comfortable. A first class service from them both.

The hotel looks great from the outside and the grounds are lovely. The room that we had was really tired with worn furniture. the bathroom had mould around the bath area and a badly cracked floor. No water or glasses in the room, no robes or slippers. The bed was large and comfortable tbf. Staff were mostly lovely although in the evening the bar staff were very unenthusiastic. Food was ok in the brasserie and good in the restaurant for dinner, the restaurant lacks any ambiance in the evening however. Disappointing hotel, won’t go back. Poor value for money.

Had a great weekend celebrating the wedding of Mark and Charlotte. Venue & staff were Great. My only comment as a negative would be a constant smell from the drains next to the wedding venue room. Didn't distract us from an awesome wedding.

Location here was great and the communal bar areas are lovely and well presented. The rooms are a little basic and slightly dated but big and comfortable and well maintained. The spa and pool area is in much need of some maintenance and would benefit from having child free time slots.

So convenient for Norwich. Afternoon tea one of best we've ever had. SPA treatment team superb. Pool area a little tired and bit cold, pool side showers were not working. However steam room a definite hit

Such a beautiful hotel. The rooms were spacious and the restaurant facilities were sublime. Service from the front desk was exceptional and helpful. It would be lovely to see more of the hotel itself. It's only 15 minutes into the city centre and so you don't feel you are missing out. The only down side was that our room was located on the first floor but in order to get to it, it was a bit of a maze. Having facilities for people to use other entrances to their 'house' would be useful.

Really nice hotel with friendly staff , kids and pet friendly. Rooms has a comfortable beds and pillows. Breakfast was very fresh with a good option of healthy food but that was busy when I been there as that was during Christmas break. Spa is good but a swimming pool temperature a little bit cold but extra clean and helpful staff Changing room has a lots of safe lockers and good shower and shampoo and hair dryer Overall we had a lovely time at this hotel, highly recommended and we will be back again soon .

Dunston Hall Hotel is an interesting place that’s for sure. It’s an affordable price especially with breakfast included and the breakfast was very good. The gym and pool etc were great and much bigger than most hotels. They were understaffed on our first night so the bar and food service staff were under the pump for quite some time but they managed OK. The rooms are a bit spartan but you get what you pay for right? Would I go back - yes but only when the price is right.

Beautiful, cosy hotel with a great restaurant and pool. Lovely, professional staff. The Spa was amazing too, I got a massage and facial and they were the best I’ve ever had. Our room for the first 2 nights was comfortable but had a loud noise outside that we believe to be from the pool (the vent or something similar). We complained about it and eventually got an upgraded room for our last night (since they were fully booked the 2nd night), so that issue did get resolved to the best of their ability.

Got a great deal in the Spring sale for a well needed couple break - wouldn't normally be able to afford this so could only do so due to the deal. Used the leisure facilities, pool a little cool but still enjoyable. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. Would've given 5 stars but bed wasn't as comfortable as we'd have liked - basically twin beds pushed together to make a double so could feel the join in the beds which were also a bit 'lumpy'.

Kerstin and her wedding team couldn't be better, everyone really enjoyed the wedding, sadly the rest of the hotel didn't match this team, woefully under staffed, who would pay such high restaurant prices like £66 for a steak dinner, I ordered a meal consisted of side dishes, no plate, when requested a cold plate for hot food was brought, by the time a warm plate was brought food was tepid. also the following morning it had been arranged for family guests to sit together for breakfast, that is unless you're disabled and wheelchair bound, in which case you were seated far away from family members who oddly have the same surname, very bad and extremely poor planning by the hotel and hotel. We tried to contact the hotel a few days prior to the wedding, the phone number on Google doesn't work, contacted head office who said they would email the hotel, no call, asked a director on the day of the wedding, he firmly stated that no email was received. Don't expect to much from such a beautiful setting. Not impressed, then again you might have worked that out, sad really.

We visited Dunstan Hall in 2020 just before the first lockdown for Wife’s 60th Birthday and we had a good time in the circumstances. However, we went back again this year to celebrate my sisters birthday and sadly management of this establishment is sadly lacking. The first thing we noticed was on going repair works within the hotel and guests were expected to walk around them while they were working. Our room had not been hoovered, nether my sons with human hair being found in his room. In our room the radiator for the towels did not work. The immediate light near the room entrance did not work. The saving grace was the fact that the beds were comfortable. When walking from our room to the dining area it was very cold due to the fact that the fire doors were actually left open! The meals in the evening were terrible but we only stayed two nights thank goodness. On both occasions the food was not good and we had to wait an hour and a half for our main meal, and it was not worth waiting for. There were at least 6 couples who were complaining and asking were their food would arrive. 3 people just walked out after waiting so long, so the hotel must have lost money, it was painful sitting there. The staff tried to do their best and were polite but the was definitely a shortage of staff. They got our bill wrong on both nights, over charging us and under charging the previous night to their own detriment. What shame we will never go again - lovely surroundings just bad management. Sort it out! We paid £700 for two nights for three of us - but is was not worth the money. We would like our money back! We have decided to take this matter further.

Enjoyed a two night stay. Hotel is a rabbit Warren and some of our group found it difficult to find their rooms and the dining room. The hotel did give us a map. Breakfast excellent - buffet style. Table service in the evening was very slow but in the hotel's introductory letter it did say there was staffing problems. Large bedrooms, very comfortable bed and a very good walk in shower as I had requested a no bath room if possible.

Myself, my wife and daughter stayed for three nights, after a room mix up was quickly sorted out by the reception staff our stay was most enjoyable. The room was clean and comfortable with a good selection of teas and coffees, a mini fridge, safe and a good sized TV, the bed was comfortable and we all slept well with no disturbances. The breakfast was a buffet with a good selection of hot and cold food. The evening meal was excellent on all of the nights and I can highly recommend the mussels from the starters (this can also be eaten as a main on request), the fillet steak is the star of the show, best steak I've had in a long time. Altogether a really nice experience and we all agree that we would not hesitate to revisit.

Good facilities. I had a wonderful stay, as it was good value for money. The in room aesthetic is very nice, nice and classical, I stayed 2 times. Once with my partner where we had the most expensive room and we had a lovely dinner with a £23 coupon. And I went again with my A-Level prom where I got a cheaper twin room, which had lots of space and similar facilities. Overall I would recommend staying here, but there is no need to spend more on the more expensive rooms unless you are looking for a slightly different view. This is my favourite hotel so far, it is very large and you will be using stairs a lot, but it does have a lift for people with disabilities.

Lovely country hotel set in attractive grounds. Played golf 2 days. The course paths are quite stony but the greens in good condition. The golf shop staff helpful. Long holes, with water and challenging. Food was variable but very tasty. Enjoyed the orangery to take coffee after dinner. Used pool, sauna and jacuzzi plus had a treatment Enjoyed our golf break at this attractive country hotel.

Went here for a spa day. Arrived at 9am, very friendly staff especially the lady at the Lilac room who greeted me with a coffee and made me feel at ease. She offered coffee throughout the day if I wanted one. Everything was explained well. The poolside was very relaxing with lovely lighting to put you in the mood to chill. Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were also lovely. I had a £15 voucher for lunch but the veggie options were out of stock but they offered me a more expensive option instead for the same price which was very kind and yummy. My treatment was great and the lady giving it very friendly. All in all I had such a lovely day, felt very relaxed and had that relaxed, happy, buzzy feeling all evening and the next day which I've never had that long from a spa before! The only downside would be that the changing area needs a little bit of a spruce up and could've been cleaner. Could do with a scrub and some of the fixtures need tending to and a lick of paint needed. Would 100% go again though as the pool area and treatments overshadowed everything else. Also, I went on a Wednesday which helped because it was so quiet which was exactly what I needed for a rest from my baby as a new mum. Thanks for such a lovely day!

The hotel and rooms were really nice, very grand and had pretty much everything you needed. The staff were friendly. It’s very much a golf hotel, you can’t walk round the grounds which it leads you to believe. The pool was lovely addition to have. The restaurant and food were what really brought the experience down. Again staff pleasant so not sure what was going on, they were missing stuff off the menu, including drinks. I didn’t even get my drink till half way through which I needed to wash down the dry burger. Burgers were over cooked with no love put into them. I was missing an ingredient in my burger. Breakfast in the morning was chaos. No bowls, plates, mugs, glasses, signs on food. Soya milk was warm. They said you should come down early to beat the chaos but a good hotel should be able to handle it. It wasn’t that busy. Spoke to some friends who stayed in past and they had same experience.

Enjoyed our stay last weekend. Staff was nice, food was good, and the room was relaxing. The only issue was Sam. Sam was a female waitress that insisted upon trying to prove my wife WRONG that the hotel does not have a HOUSE WINE, when the night before we requested the house wine at dinner and it was brought to us several times at the restaurant and bar. Normally I would not care, but the waitress would not let it go and came back to the table to state it again as if we wanted to continue the conversation. Then, after ordering a bottle of wine, she proceeded to bring us dirty glasses. After that was straightened, she insisted to let us know what our allowance was (even though we knew) and kept saying it over and over. She blamed her service on the younger waiters and waitresses who don’t know their job. Overall, we did not allow it to mess up our experience of the hotel, though it almost a did. However we do desire to have it noted of what she did. We will be coming back and hopefully do not have her as a server.

Classic architecture and lovely grounds made for a striking entrance to the hotel. Rooms are a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Nice to have a restaurant and lite fare pub on site. Overall a relaxing and lovely visit.

A lovely hotel. Our room was good, comfortable, spacious. Good bathroom & shower. Despite all the available windows being open it was very warm & we wished for air conditioning, but we stayed during a very hot period. Staff were lovely, kind, helpful. The Lilac Room spa was super. The pool facilities are very good.

I stayed here with a friend as part of the Carefree partnership. It is by far the best hotel I have stayed in in a very long time. The buildings and grounds were super, and the golfers kept us entertained from the Terrace bar. Our classic room was spacious and the lovely staff installed a fridge for us free of charge - many thanks for that. The bar and brasserie were very impressive. We had afternoon tea in the Tea Snug, and eat supper in the Brasserie on the second evening - everything was lovely. The buffet breakfast each morning was well worth getting out of bed for! The staff at all times were friendly and professional - nothing was too much trouble. Many thanks for a memorable stay.

Hotel and food was excellent as were the staff. The golf experience was poor. Took 5 hours to play on the Saturday. The attitude of a male member of staff in the golf shop was appalling. Tried to justify drinking and slow play on the course. Basically told us if we didn't like it, don't come back. Played on the Sunday and went round in 3.5 hours so everything he said was a lie. We went for a golf weekend and the golf that was the let down. So I will do as he wished and not go back.

Paid for a room and dinner for my parents diamond wedding anniversary present. The manager and staff went above and beyond to make it a lovely nights stay. The food was delicious and the staff friendly. Would recommend and I hope to try it soon.

Arrived for afternoon tea for the 2 of us. Spoke with a man at the bar who told us to find a table and he'd come to us. We sat there for 40 minutes before a group of 6 ladies came for afternoon tea, they hadn't prepared the table are for them either. Eventually the manager came and spoke to them then us. Eventually got our afternoon tea. Service very poor. Cakes were okay, sandwiches were stodgy and our latte's were Luke warm/cold. The hotel itself was lovely. Avast to say all in all we won't recommend this to our friends or family.

I would have liked to rate this venue higher but when visiting for a golf break there were obviously some staffing and supply issues. Staff were very helpful and polite but the Bunkers Bar could not provide food, and at dinner there were many items not available. Really enjoyed the golf course which was in good condition and would like to play it again some time. Would recommend the venue overall.

I arrived to the hotel late and the receptionist was very helpful and welcoming. I requested room service from the restaurant at 2100 and they suggested it wasn’t possible, due to covid restrictions. As the rest of the hotel has moved on from covid, how have the restaurant keep this restriction in place?? With the amount of staff wandering around, I can’t see why I’d need to walk a fair distance from my room, to collect a plate of food. It seems petty to complain but it’s not the experience I expected. On the whole the hotel is pleasant but the rooms and the experience seem dated.

Visited this hotel for my husband’s birthday and what a disappointment! This should have been a memorable occasion, which it surely was but for all the wrong reasons. When arriving at reception we were greeted by a pleasant young man who assisted us in our registration, which was curtailed when he abruptly broke off to have a discussion regarding seating arrangements for a corporate event with another colleague, I don’t think he even realised how rude this was, then, having watched my husband unload the car he proceeded to direct us to our room, watching us struggle with numerous bags and a suitcase, not once was it suggested that a porter might be summoned to assist us, or even any offer of help, we were the only ones at reception guest wise so being busy wasn’t an excuse. We paid for db&b which proved to be a disaster, eating in the restaurant on the first night we had a passable steak, but the onion rings were inedible, looked like they’d been under a heat lamp for days! No mushrooms or tomatoes just some passable chips. The second night even worse, my husband’s birthday completely ruined by food that I would struggle to feed to a dog, his meal was a lamb dish that was truly disgusting, he sent the dish back and asked to speak to the supervisor who initially didn’t turn up but sent the 19 year old waitress to inform us that he’d not charge us for the meal and give us 50% off our wine, missing the point that we’d already paid for the food in our db&b rate. Eventually after I insisted that I wanted to speak to him he eventually turned up and was very pleasant and magnanimously agreed to give us our bottle of wine on the house, again missing the point that we’d already paid for something that we’d not had, which was a decent meal, I ate belly pork which I had to peel the crackling off as it was too dry to eat, I truly believe we would have had a better meal in McDonald’s! The restaurant was staffed by teenagers who, despite done a decent job, lacked supervision and support, not good enough in our opinion. Breakfast was appalling on both days, resembling a poor version of a transport cafe, everyone fending for themselves, poor choice of fruit and dry inedible hot food. On departure I complained and saw a sympathetic duty manager who listened to my issues, however we have been let down by this experience by the hotel and it has frankly ruined our birthday break. The hotel wasn’t cheap, just under £600 for 2 nights, seemingly we paid Q hotel prices for a Travel Lodge experience. Not good enough!

We stayed on a Friday night and had the breakfast and dinner deal in a standard room. The rooms are a bit dated, the furniture took us back to the 1980's however the bed was very comfortable and the room and bedding etc. was very clean. The bathroom was well appointed and also spotlessly clean. There is no aircon in the room (which was not expected as wasn't advertised) however there was an old school fan which did a good job. Every staff member we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. The dinner was very good - service was great and the breakfast was equally as good. What was a nice touch is that they had a specific gluten free table with bread and cereal which was important for my wife. We made use of the Spa facilities, the pool, spa pool, Sauna and Hammam and all were good - clearly they are still having issues with hot water as the pool was a tad cool but everything else was perfect. In short - don't stay here expecting five star luxury - it isn't but it offers a good experience with great facilities for a price lower than a Premier Inn. If we are in this neck of the woods again, we will certainly stay again!

Would definitely stay again at Dunston Hall Hotel. Lovely historical building and beautifully maintained grounds. Ben H served us our evening meal and he was so polite and attentive, a true credit to your staff team. Becky was also a star in the Spa. Thank you Dunston Hall.

Surroundings, grounds excellent. Staff , great service. Room , cracked sink ,stretched sticky back plastic covering the cistern. Not what you expect from what is supposed to be a top quality hotel.

Generally a let down, could be amazing if they trained and supported the generally very young and inexperienced staff. 10/10 for their efforts! But that’s it. Menu is expensive and sparse of veggie options. Expect a very long wait for any food orders (recently 2 hrs for 2 courses). Dining and bar different menus and kitchen times seem to be when they want to close! No doubt a stunning venue, but needs a deep clean, spruce up and staff that are fully trained. Example today, one hour hour ago in the empty bar I ordered, but then they give my veggie order to a meat eater! There are 4 of us in the bar sat down - it’s not busy. No apology except a surely “Its coming”. Who’s not training the staff? Such as shame as it could be 5 stars with little effort.

Just back from a night spa break, the hotel and its setting is great, the staff are all friendly, the room we had was acceptable standard hotel , albeit like Premier Inn standard. ( didn't upgrade the room ) spa treatment and facilities great. Sadly the restaurant is not up to the standard of the venue. 2 of our 3 courses came out with only 1 dish when we ordered 2 , by the time they had corrected the starter the main arrived. Then again dessert they only bought out 1 of the 2 we ordered. The standard of food is also not what I would expect from a restaurant in this setting. Frozen chips... and a pre made tart. Breakfast they didn't have any non dairy milk. Granted they went and got some from tescos , but says a lot that it's not up to high standards, this was our third spa break away, best setting but worst restaurant. Had the service food been in a bar setting more acceptable but not for a high standard restaurant. I would stay again. But not dine, as the food quality and service doesn't match the price.

Stayed last night with my partner in one of the Manor Suite rooms with a four poster bed and it was lovely! The room was so romantic and full of character, lovely view of the fountain. The bed was very comfortable and the room was a good temperature as some hotel rooms are ridiculously hot. Also the room came with complimentary drinks in the fridge which included 2 beers, 2 small white wines and 2 Pepsi which we thought was a very good extra 😊. The room had tea and coffee facilities which included a Nespresso machine but unfortunately there were no teaspoons and no English breakfast tea which is a shame. We had a meal in the lounge bar and dessert in the restaurant which were both lovely but there were a few items not available from the menu that particular night. The lounge bar was so pretty and cosy for a few drinks in the evening. There was no room service available that night or next morning because of staffing issues which was a shame as it's nice to have that available. We didn't get a chance to try the swimming pool, maybe next time. There were a few minor issues but overall we absolutely loved our stay and will definitely come back again. The hotel is such a lovely building to explore, full of character and very pretty.
