I visited Sunset Beach two times this past week. Once with my grandson and once with a neighbour. Both times were in late afternoon/evening. Residents of St. Catharines can obtain a free parking pass through the City of St. Catharines website. If you do not have a parking pass you can visit the beach but there are parking meters on location and the cost is $3.00 per hour, limit of 3 hours. Parking fees are new to this beach this year. Went during the week and found not too busy. Weekends are probably much more busy. I would recommend this beach as it is kept clean and this year the beach is wide. Bad news is water is not recommended for swimming presently.

Great beach that is easy to get to, has a good parking lot and a large, sandy shoreline. I believe paid parking only starts the beginning of June, as when I went in May, there was no charge. When I went in June, parking was $3/hr. Even on a Saturday, the beach is not too crowded. It was still practically empty by 11am, so it was easy to find a spot. There are public bathrooms in a small building (women's bathroom had 2 stalls). There are posts for attaching your volleyball nets if you play. Bring your own umbrella if you want shade. And make sure you check the water quality online to see if it's safe for swimming before your visit.

Amazing sunset. Sun goes directly in the water. the sun reflection on the water and the open horizon. Breathtaking scenery. Sandy shores and seagulls were hunting for dinner, lovely energy. There are washrooms and paid parking. Beach is very small. You might have to go early before it’s over capacity. There is also water treatment right behind, you can actually hear it and the smell is awful.

It is a beautiful clean beach. I went 24 March 2021 to see the sunset as it name suggests. It was a cloudy day but I was able to take some nice pictures. I haven't been here during the summer and don't know what the atmosphere is then but to catch a sunset, you should visit.

Very clean and peaceful beach. Also, it was very nice weather when we visited. We stayed till the sunset which was very pretty, nice blue skies with red horizon. Google map says it’s closed on Saturday and Sunday but that’s not true (summer 2022). Park open till 10pm.

As soon as we parked at about 930 am the sand smoothing machine had already done half of the beach. Huge shout out to the Niagra Parks crews who tirelessly clean and landscape everything constantly! If only we could have such attention to detail in the USA and our parks... This was a perfect starter beach for our toddler who is 3. The water was shallow enough for her to walk out about 20 yards before it started getting sketchy. The temperature of the water was amazing as well. Granted it was the middle of July, but I was shocked that the water was warm and not cool at all. Upon leaving I noticed private security was watching the beach the entire time from the parking lot. There was some trash strewn about but what beach doesn't have that? This is a great small beach for young kids and parents alike.

This place smelled terrible, and it was so filthy. There was garbage and broken glass all along the shoreline. Walk on the sand with some type of foot wear because there was a lot of garbage. Parking was not bad, I believe it was $3 for a couple of hours. They had a bathroom and a changing room, which was convenient but also very dirty and unkept.

It's nice to go there we went on a stormy day, so I didn't go swimming. However, only downside I feel so far is the boat ramp right beside the beach as well as paid parking I know the city needs to make money but damn it's own citizens can't even park at the beach for a beautiful view. The parking lot is often patrolled by security checking if everyone is paid up. If anything, the best option might be to find a side street to park on and walk down.

So worth the hype! Must visit. Beautiful, quiet, clean, calm, just great for the soul. Swings, beach, benches, free parking. And you can swim. Jagdeep at the entrance is so friendly and helpful. What's not to like about this place!

Sunset beach is hands down the best beach in the Niagara region. The sunsets are incredible! I wish it was still a hidden gem because people litter and leave trash everywhere. So rude. Staff do their best to keep it clean though, Still a 4/5 for experience. You also have to pay now if you drive 3$/hr.

Observing the sun 🌞 cast it's rays on the waters of the beach ⛱️ has a calming effect. Also, sunset at this beach is pleasant to behold; the golden rays of the sun as it bids goodbye to this side of the earth can best be experienced than imagined. The water is so clear that you can see the sands and stones beneath. The environment is clean, they have washrooms (restrooms) and shower room. I was there with friends and family and it was fun; I couldn't resist capturing some scenic views, a few of which I have shared here

White sand, clear water, tons of sun and shaded areas also available. Clean bathroom & well maintained park area. Posibility to BBQ & have a fantastic day at the beach. Some rocks when entering the water but can do without water shoes. Water gets deep faster than the water at Wasaga Beach. Surprised that lake Ontario has a beautiful beach like Sunset Beach. Bonus: plenty of Parking & it's free!

A good day at the beach. Few points to consider: No parking attendant, so the parking scene is chaos. A lot of people double parking and as a result you may get blocked in. I was surprised to see no bylaw officers. Majority of people practiced social distancing but once in the water, not so much. Overall a beautiful beach to visit especially with family. There's even a ramp for your boats and jet skis.

Came here during my road trip to Niagara falls and had an amazing relaxing picnic on the beach with my family. Parking is 3$ an hour cash or credit only. Or you can park in the street 5 minutes away for free. Clean beach and friendly staff.

It is a great beach. One can easily spend a few hours and still want to be there more. Parking spaces are limited, so you either have to be early or wait for enough spaces to free up before they let you in. From my experience, Gate keeper forgets the amount of cars that go in and comes out and won't let you in even if there are spaces, so just don't argue with her or she'll relay you to be the bad guy in front of her supervisor and not let you park inside. Other than that, the beach is fabulous.

Best place to see the sunset view. I love Sunset beach as it’s best and cleaner than other places. Parking is paid in summer and free in winter and fall season. Nice place for picnic, handball, sun bath, family time together.

This is a really nice place to visit . You will enjoy the view. Lots of room to play and a good place to have a swim. The place is clean, and you will see a security roaming around from time to time. I'm pretty sure that the sunset will be beautiful but we did not wait for it as we need to get back to Toronto.

It's amazing!!! Very neat and wild area, and the water is very cool. Great place to hangout with your friend and family. Just 1h drive from Mississauga. The washroom is not so neat, however, need some maintenance. Still highly recommended.

Had a great time at this beach. It was my first time visiting this beach in St Catherine's. It was a bit busy today (we physically distanced) but the beach was clean, water was clear and the weather was perfect! I'd definitely go back there. 💯

Easy access but I hate that you can maximum park for 3 hours and then you’d need to change the location of your vehicle if you want extend your stat at the beach. The beach is clean and water is clear. As all beaches in Ontario it is advisable to check swim guide in case water is not safe to swim.

I would recommend this for kids and family. Wonderful water and sand. Its flat sand beach. You can take your kids to far in the beach and they have out borders for it. Its nice hang out place and chilling. Not much crowded and clean beach. If your going with you kayak, canoe, this would be wonderful place. Also for Skidoo.

The park is open but done construction going on down there. Hopefully they are building new washrooms and change spot. Prior to covid lots of people gathered there to spend time soaking up the sun and enjoy the beach and the sun sets. There we lots of families gathered for barbecues and picnics

Such a amazing place filled with peace as well as adventure. Best time to visit is in between 4-8 . People can also experience sunset and beautiful view as well. It is less crowded area compared to another places so that’s why it is less noisy . On the other side , people have limited option to buy food so carry your stuff if anyone planned to come . People can play volleyball here with groups as well fressbee.

I love this beach. It's my go to. Some days are better swimming water than others depending on what's washed up to shore. But the sand is clean. The beach is kept right now for residents which is great. Sometimes it has a smell. But the sunset view makes up for that. 😍

A good place to hang around with beach kinda feeling near Toronto. Beach is nice and wide with some green lush nearby for summer barbecue parties. Parking is of medium size; can accommodate around 70-80 cars on floating. If parking is full, no other way around to park. Beach is clean, litter free (has to be per Canadian standards), less noisy and one can see Toronto sky scrapers. If you have jet ski or boat, definitely a good secluded place to enjoy water rides as one can’t expect many boats around like GTA. Definitely must visit place in summer days.

It's so gorgeous and there's so much space between you and other parties. The water is always so nice and clear. Just know you have to be a Niagara resident or else they don't let you in. They do check for identification. Have fun!!

Nice but very crowded beach. When we went there around 11:30 am,security guards seemed to have the situation under control, not too many people and distance was kept as required. After an hour big groups of people came in, it got really crowded and people weren't keeping enough distance from others anymore 😕. Security guards could come often, but we never saw them talking to anyone that wasn't obeying the regulations...Now I feel bad I brought the kids there...

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Goes by its name the best sunset you can ever find. It’s simply breath taking, mind blowing. Just sitting down and watch the fullness of sun sets into the water with its golden glow shines through the waves. You’ll definitely forget all the stress and all bout covid for a long hours. family friendly. Foods available not far from site. You’ll see them along the road as you get closer to the beach. Ample of parking onsite. Parking is free. Parking is right beside the beach. They closed the gate exactly 9pm or whatever closing time they posted. No camp fire and barBQ allowed but who have time to do that when it everyone have their eyes on the gorgeous sunset. Images we took 1st week November of 2020 where it was a record high warm temperature. We’re able to play with our son in the water in a winter month, yes it’s rare and we didn’t waste any moment. This used to be called Municipal Beach or Muni Beach it got changed to Sunset Beach for that very reason if you ever want to just go watch a gorgeous sunset on the horizon this is the beach to go to it is Tiny it's not beg and even in the winter they have it roped off so you can go park and watch the sunset the parking lot itself is slope so you're aiming towards the Water of Lake Ontario but I'll tell you if you ever get a chance to walk on the beach you'll see the Toronto at Mississauga and Hamilton Skyline and with the sunset mazing on be a great place for a date night and lots of non-alcoholic wine for the driver and a glass of good Chardonnay for the passenger bring your sunglasses cuz that's bright

Beautiful and clean beach near niagara falls. This beach is truly named as sunset Beach. One of the best location to watch sun set. Beach is clean, good sand, and places to do BBQ. Even on Saturday evening, beach was not so crowded. Water is also clean and warm. You can see downtown Toronto skyline. Good for water activities for kids. Only issue is very limited parking and no washrooms. You have to go early or very lucky to get a parking spot. Parking is paid from 9 to 9 and $3 per hr. A must visit.

I love it,“Because the sun is low on the horizon, sunlight passes through more air at sunset and sunrise than during the day, when the sun is higher in the sky," Ackerman told Science Daily in 2007. "More atmosphere means more molecules to scatter the violet and blue light away from your eyes.

St catharine local. Lived here for 10 years. Nice big beach. Lots of sand and space to play in. It has definitely boomed in the last few years. Parking is hard to find and now you have to pay for it. Washrooms are a nice upgrade though. I say this is more of a energetic beach vibe. Volleyball, soccer, Frisbee, football, jet ski, boats. You'll always be dodging something if you're not part of the action. Water is refreshing. There is a dirty secret about this particular beach. I never go to this beach unless my friends insist. However, still nice to sit and watch the sunset off the water.

Wow, they put showers in. I love the wheelchair ramp to the beach. However it is way too short of thought and material. Like someone wants to wheel themselves to the beach but then can't get to the water. They stopped way to short . Hopefully, when they have more money, they can finish it properly so everyone with disabilities can have access to the water. Had this been completed, I would have given it 5 stars. Hugh improvements here.

The water is rarely safe for swimming (there are signs/website available to check), and access to the beach closes before sunset. They WILL lock your vehicle in. If you want to watch the sunset, do not park in the lot. The view is nice, though, and the beach is pretty well maintained these days.

Sunset Beach, nestled on the picturesque coastline near Hamilton, is a true gem that left me in awe from the moment I set foot on its sandy shores. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of experiencing some of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever witnessed, making it an unforgettable destination for nature enthusiasts and beach lovers alike.

Nice beach, plenty of space, long shore , dock/ramp for boats and water jet skis. During my visit (July 19, 2023) there was some terrible smell came from the near by water treatment plant. Not sure if that an every occurrence , or just a faulty machinery causing it . The city security guards are there but I see boats anchored closer to the show were well beyond these city's restrictions.

Nice beach park. Parking is limited so better to go early.

🫤 I’m assuming they’re under new management since becoming Aerosports but our experience for the first time back since it’s changed was less than ideal.
