Basler Münster is a Romanesque and Gothic cathedral located in Basel, Switzerland. It is one of the most important landmarks in the city and is a popular tourist attraction. The cathedral was built in the 9th century, and has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years. The main building is made of red sandstone and has two tall towers, one of which is home to the city's famous clock. The interior of the cathedral is richly decorated with frescoes, stained glass windows, and elaborate altar pieces. The cathedral also has a large organ with more than 6,000 pipes, which is used for concerts and religious services. The Basler Münster is a significant cultural and religious site in Switzerland, and it is also a popular venue for events such as concerts and exhibitions. It is open to the public and can be visited on a guided tour or independently.

One of the most beautiful churches i have ever seen. Loved the painted glass and the columns, the ceiling and arches. The entrance is free but if you want to go up to the tower you have to pay 6 CHF. And you will want to go to one of the towers, because the view to the river and the city is breathtaking. I never miss this part anywhere, and now i wasn't dissapointed. You will not regret it.

Beautiful cathedral. It was closed when I got there, I was hoping to attend the evening prayer session, as I saw on the website. It didn’t happen maybe because of an outdoor cinema event. At the back of the cathedral you can see the nice view of Basel and Rhine River

Basel Minster is a free to enter church located at the heart of the city. It's also the location of the Basel Autumn festival and Christmas markets. It's a stunning Gothic cathedral, stands as an architectural marvel. You can buy tickets to go up the cathedral's tower to experience panoramic views of Basel and the Rhine River. Its timeless beauty and cultural significance make it a jewel in Switzerland's heritage and a true testament to Gothic architecture's grandeur.

One of the most iconic landmark in Basel that you have to see. If you are brave enough to climb to the top of the tower, you will be rewarded by the breathtaking view of the city across the Rhine. And if you look further, you can even see across the French and German country border. Even if you don't have the strength to climb atop of it's tower, the cathedral has an ornate interior as well as a monastery with courtyard right next to the cathedral.

So nice!!!! It's historical and elegant! I experienced a midday prayer at this location today, it came with very traditional ceremony with some music and singings, super nice experience! And the sight of the river is very stunning too!

One of the most beautiful and interesting historical places to see in central Europe. Please go to the crypt and wait for the show, it's amazing! The show is played in 3 languages: English, German and French, each at different time. You'll see information about it before the entrance to the crypt.

This large cathedral overlooking the Rhine in the heart of old Basel is not to be missed. Entry is free - unlike many English cathedrals. The tomb of Erasmus is here. You can visit the towers for a small fee but it means climbing many steps. Be very careful going behind the altar area as it is very dark and hard to see the steps: they should really have better lighting.

Not crowded and nice place to understand a bit of history while in Basel. Large cathedral with wonderful shades of light and dark. I'd love to hear what the acoustics are like when they play the pipe organ.

We just missed going inside because there was an event. We walked through the courtyard instead and on to the balcony overlooking the Rhein. It was a nice quiet area where one could relax and enjoy the view.

Loved their NYE service. Wholesome and emotional. Some people were unfriendly, but that is not the Minster’s fault, it however left a stain on the experience. The building was impressive nonetheless, and extremely clean especially for how packed it was. Really beautiful place, definitely worth seeing.

Fascinating gothic style cathedral dating back to the 9th century with rich religious and political history. The view of the city of Basel along the river Rhine is stunning from the top viewing platform. I recommend taking a guided walking tour of Basel like us which covered almost all the attractions including the cathedral with interesting history of the city.

This red sandstone church is conic for the Basil cityscape. What drew me in was the intricate sculptures of St. George and the dragon, a seducer and a misguided virgin and various haldbeast and people. The most unique one in my eyes was the monster spitting out a human head. Of this church has a long past, being built at least 3 times and going back to the 4th century. It is great to go around the building and look at all the little detailed carvings and have a look at the courtyard with many graves. Highly recommended the have a visit.

Beautiful cathedral and the area surrounding it. Inside you will find an area that takes you to the top for a fee. I wanted to go up for some great photos, but I was not allowed! They have a weird rule of having people go up in pairs of 2 only?!?

The Münster is the central point in Basel. The many centuries, construction start 1019 until 1500, different old world events taking place here are emating history until today. The different aspects, besides the religious importance, for the city as a symbol are key to many. The building with many facets, grave stones, view to the river Rhine, the side buildings (Factorei), the rose garden, the halls (usually not accessible), the crypta, the main-ship , the altar, the weel of live, the side chapels, the stained glass, and much more. The organ is also a very important aspect of the Münster and has provided many beautiful moments for so many, including me.

Quiet place full of history. The big walls from brick keep secrets of the centuries. Big yard with monuments to the victims of past tragedies. U can walk around and feel how deep and high is this monster of faith that'll stand here for decades more.

a magnificent temple, one of a kind - overlooking the Rhine and the tombs of people who lived over 700 years ago. Modestly in the center, the size and the floor and the underground make an impression. A must-see point to visit in Basel.

Beautiful cathedral. We went in the day for a tour and returned in the evening for an accomplished organ recital. There is a concert schedule and I highly recommend checking to see if you can catch a performance when visiting the city.

Nice and peaceful cathedral. What caught my attention was the amazingly colorful and vibrant stained glass windows. Cathedral itself is big. I would suggest to take a walk around and outdoors as well. At backside relaxing views of rhine and bridges on either side.

This is a must see when u are in town. Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. The tour of the steeples is something you have to see. It is more than worth the price. Small stairs and passage ways are hard to get through but amazing. Words can’t say enough.

Short walk up the slopes to reach this old cathedral. Simple-styled evangelist church. At the platform out the back, you get great views of Rhine River, Basel, and Germany in the distance. France was not visible due to the weather. Nice Christmas tree outside and a Santa was making huge soap bubbles that made the kids happy; they were chasing and popping them.

Stunningly intricate and beautiful architecture, stained glass, and woodwork. The climb to the top of the towers is quite treacherous and the stairs are very very narrow but the view makes it well worth it. The crypt is accessible to the public and it is fascinating, but even more than that if you love archaeological and historical things... You will really enjoy seeing the excavated room they have with tombs which the old church leaders were buried in.

Basel, known as the cultural but also industrial center of Switzerland with its advanced Chemical and Pharmaceutical companies. Connected to the world via it's harbor at the banks of the River Rhein. Located at the extreme North-west of Switzerland bordering to France and Germany. Traces go back about 2000 years but todays location was established about 1200 years ago. With this, a beautifully maintained city center provides astonishing middle age atmosphere. Good to know: Basel has the mildest climate in Switzerland and it's early spring flowers with Palm trees and Oleanders are just breathtaking!

👍👍 Not too big, but a very beautiful park from Basel. Clean, many playgrounds for children, all green. 😍 I like the wood "obstacles" which are that interesting that even parents use them. The fact that at least blue parking place is not that hard to find might be a great plus for this park too.
