Very basic facility, the place is surprisingly dirty. Most disappointing was when we had to pay extra charges for a child upon checking out, despite clearly indicating "3 person / 2 adults with 1 child in one room" when we made prior booking. For the rates they charge, I think there are better options elsewhere. Not worth the $$ spent.

I give this hotel a 5 star rating for friendliness, location but it is probably a 2.5 to 3 star hotel. Not much English spoken but very manageable. If you are looking for a more modern hotel with those sort of conveniences then this probable won't suit. If you don't mind an older hotel but with very friendly staff with great location then this would suit well.

3 stars as we went for the budget option of 4 people staying in the same room. The hotel was very quiet and we were mostly left to ourselves. The onsen is very good and worth the tax. The room was clean, as we're the bathrooms. Great location for exploring takayama.

It has a public bathroom, spring water pool and basin but no need worry too much because most of the times there will be no one there. However, if you feel uncomfortable, then better not to choose it. (I'm serious). It has a television inside the room which is the part which satisfied me the most xD there are so many channels which are very interesting indeed. The bed is warm and comfortable. Dipping my legs into the spring water is really a good and nice experience.

We were able to book one of the rooms with a private bath. Very little English is spoken at thus hotel. The room had an information booklet with no English at all. There is no lift and all the rooms are up either one or two flights of stairs. The location is good. The Sun laundromat is very convenient. We enjoyed the nearby local sites. Prices were very high. Good food and service at Hida Yakima from the Hida Beefmeister. Also at Echiba

The place are super comfy and nice. The host are also very nice. Though they don't have any elevator so it might be a little difficult if you bring a very heavy luggage.

It's not the cleanest, a bit old, has shared bathrooms, the onsen isn't 24 hours, and there was a cold draft when I slept too close to the window but I loved Minshuku Kuwataniya. It felt like visiting home and the important things that needed to be clean were, our host was a wonderful woman who was very kind and made us feel welcome. If you prefer all the amenities of a modern hotel stay somewhere else. If you want to experience something more authentic with character, history, and charm like grandmas stay here :)
