If you enjoy an experience without electricity, cold water and stuff on strike, you might appreciate it if you climb for mangos yourself, pay the local farmers for food and try to hunt a bushmaster snake under you bed. An unforgettable experience and fantastic trips in the jungle - but never again. I just felt sorry for the stuff.

This eco-lodge is located right in the Tambopata reserve so you get a perfect chance to encounter and observe various local fauna and flora and enjoy some truly special moments under the starry night sky (unless it is cloudy). The staff there is kind and the vegan food we had during our spiritual retreat there was absolutely amazing. Rooms are spacious. I recommend using only biodegradable cosmetic products when there as what you use goes to the river and soil.

Don't let the superman experts bs you. If there's once in life you'll need to risk cancer, one can of 100% DEETS will make you the most popular guest in the lodge. Otherwise you'll be miserable no matter what you drink. If you like to sweat, this is your refuge, as there's no escape from the heat and humidity, also don't break the ranks of the military ants. If you see a single file stream of ants.....that is them and they really attack, thats when my kangeroo instinct kicked in. While the tree canopy makes for you an excellent heat sink at night, the Amazon basin is also an excellent water sponge that never fully dries out, thereby producing a never ending steam bath. After a force march through the jungle to get to a lake and back before lunch, I was thoroughly drenched in sweat. It took nearly a six-pack of Cusqueno to rehydrate. While the accommodations are rustic, there are no locks on the doors of your bungalow, however if your planning a trip into Manu reserve, you might try a place like this to get a feel for what it might be like where there's no escape from the green monster. My guide Edwin who was very kind, wanted to take me on the night tour. However whatever it was you couldn't see in the day, certainly would be far less interesting with a flashlight at night. We were the only two guest there with exception for ecology students on grant research. All the loud extraverts left the day after we arrived, making there departure reason to celebrate.

Friendly and helpful staff. Stayed in the larger block. Big room with screens, fan, mosquito net and bathroom. Central communal lodge nice space with bar and 24 HR charging (electric in rooms is around 6-10pm). Observation tower worth the walk.

We would definitely not recommend booking at this location. We did so one month in advance (and paid deposit) and one day before arrival they informed us that because of overbooking, they have no place for us except first of 3 booked nights. In fact instead of us (Czech couple) they accepted large group with the vision of large profits. Just because of intervention from previous employee we got 100 dolars discount, but had no time to change our plans. Still it was most expensive 4 days stay in our life. They arranged for us alternative accommodation allegedly of the same quality. Despite the fact that the staff of Nape lodge did their best, standard was very different. At the end of our stay in Peru, after trekking in mountains, we searched for something more luxurious. In addition, this one was out of reservation. It was our guide Angel, who even do not belong to Explorer's Inn, who saved our stay. He is wonderful person with perfect knowledge about the local environment, who deserves a recommendation.

You're in the jungle so don't expect anything fancy. The staff was super helpful and nice. They have a common lounge with a bar, this is also where meals are served. The rooms are cozy with a comfortable bed and mall bathroom (only cold running water). They also provide mosquito nets which is helpful. There are no windows just screens, so you can really take in the jungle sounds.

Awesome Accomodation. Staff was very friendly and helpful, meals were delicious and fresh. Fresh drinking water and fresh fruit was always available for the taking. The rooms were very big. The beds were additionally equipped with mosquio nets. The bathroom did not have a door just a curtain but I didn't mind that at all. The shower is giant but we also had a giant spider in it XD. It is rather loud at night. All the nocturnal animals are waking up and screaming their lungs out. I didn't mind at all but light sleepers should be warned. The collective noise of the nightlife in the jungle could cause you problems and since the windows and doors were only equipped with nets rather than glass or wood all the noise was easily heard. As I said i loved it but my roommate had some troubles fallling asleep the first night until she got used to it. So bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Hammocks are provided in front of every room. I can only reccomend to hang it up and chill in it for a couple of hours. However DO NOT FORGET THE BUGSPRAY. (Forgot to reapply after shower and mosquitos and sandflies stung me to pits.) The guides of the Tours (Night Walk, Caiman Boat Tour, Guided Hike and Boat Tour on the Lake) were very knowledgable about the area and the wildlife and answered every question we had. We had a troop of monkeys come visit us and we watched them for hours. Also there is an amazing ant trail of leave cutter ants close by. Very interesting to watch them cut and carry the leaves.

We spent 6 days at Explorer's Inn back in September 2014, when the lodge had just re-opened under new ownership. Don't expect luxury. Do expect a very knowledgeable guide (Jhordy in our case) who knows where to find amazing animals and plants. Do expect to see lots of animals and the beautiful nature of the Tambopata. We saw lots of different exotic bird species, including toucans puffbirds, kingfishers, hoatzins, and obviously macaws, as well as various types of butterflies, capybaras, howler monkeys, tamarin monkeys, capucin monkeys, dusky titi monkeys, monkey frogs, giant river otters, turtles, caimans, agoutis, and a tapir. The trip to the macaw clay-licks is a must for parrots. Spectacular! Parrots fly from all over Brazil and Peru to come here. The food was nice and made fresh from locally sourced ingredients. One of the best experiences of my life.
