Awful accommodations!! 1. Hotel is listed as non-smoking hotel. Room smelled of cigarettes. Pillows smelled of cigarettes as people had previously smoked in that room. When you pulled the curtain to the patio open there was cigarette ash where former guests had slid open the door and put out their cigarettes directly outside the sliding door. 2. The bathroom door was not usable the doorknob was broken from the door and hanging there. 3. The bathroom door was split from someone kicking it in

After reading the reviews and having read the owners response, it’s blatantly obvious this is a waste of time. My biggest regret other than renting a room from this facility is that I can’t post pictures on this platform. Check in around 4 o’clock had a business meeting at 4:30 and did not return back to the room until 1030 and then realized not only is the room filthy with black mold on the ceiling. Blood on the walls sheets are completely filthy and to make matters worse, it smelled like an ashtray. The lock on the sliding glass door was broken - around 2:30 in the morning somebody tried to enter the room. Needless to say after that experience, we jumped in the car and left. I called three different occasions, and was instructed that the hotel manager would call me back and obviously I never received that call. I have filed a grievance with the credit card to stop payment and to my amazement. The motel Manager denied my request which is still being investigated. $328.00 Fortunately, I deal with quite a few people in the Toms River area and I’m able to make the proper contacts to know how a facility like this manages to stay open in the town. To the person that normally responds to these reviews, save your breath your response from what I read is tripe. Shame on you for what you do to the motel industry reputation.

The toilet didn't flush, there wasn't enough hot water to take a shower and the TV was broken. Plus the bed, although comfortable, made a strange sound every time someone sat on it. There was no phone in the room. So we went to the desk to tell them about the toilet and they said they would call the plumber. He never came. When we left the receptionist just said, yeah. I have it written down. Bye 👋

**STAY FAR AWAY** This place is a complete joke. We didn't even last 5 minutes before booking another place. I have seen crack dens that look more hospitable than this hotel. Completely disgusted, there were stains on the sheets and a mysterious brown goo in the bathroom. The nerve of them to charge us the market rate for a room is beyond anything. The whole hotel stunk of mold, mildew, and cigarettes. Even though they claim it is a smoke-free hotel. I felt nauseous even before getting to the room. The man at the front desk is pretending he is not the manager, and he is refusing to give us our money back for our 5-minute stay. You couldn't even pay me to spend more than 5 minutes here. We are disputing with Wyndham corporate and reported this location to them.

Location is convenient to mall, restaurants, and major highways. Would have given a 3 or 4 but customer service was non-existent. Asked for towels, I was told to find the house keeper, requested for quiet hrs due to continued noise in room next to us and people inside got worse, and to complete during checkout I was asked what do you need? By the person putting cereal in the breakfast room. To only be told, leave the keys, and you're done. Instead of asking, how was your stay? Or how can we ensure you provide us with a great review? Would not be returning ever 🙄.

The fan in the bathroom does not work. I talk to maintenance and management and they said there are no fans in the bathroom to remove moisture from the bathroom. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this. If this was a one or two star hotel I would not have been surprised but your rating was so much higher and for $180 a night. I would expect that something as simple as a fan to vent out moisture.

It's a busy place and stays busy. It has a nice restaurant and pub inside, open at night. Live music, weekends. The staff as far as I know, each time I've stayed there has been nothing but nice and respectful. And gone the extra mile to make our stay, comfortable. The place is clean. Could it be more updated?! Yeah but so could my own home. nothing is perfect people. You got Ice machines and soda machines, food you can order out all over, a nice staff, beautiful indoor pool, good location to reach just about anywhere you gotta get to. The only con to me is the value. They're a little up there in price on certain days. But they are a business so I understand. I would highly recommend staying here.

The place has a good location, a block off of route 37 about 4 MI away from seaside heights and the boardwalk. However, it is seriously dated, and in need of many many repairs. All of the furniture in our room needed to be replaced, the fan in the bathroom didn't work, and the covering of the indoor pool allowed in no light, so the water was about 60°, and my fiance and I can only last about 5 minutes before I thought we were doing a Jack and Rose impersonation. With some honest care, repairs, and replacement of certain equipment, this place could be a real money maker. Right now, it's hit or miss.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This is (truly) a homeless shelter. You are paying market rates for a ninth class hotel for some insane reason. Our baseball coordinator reserved a block of rooms, and I probably should have done more research. Corridors, front office, and rooms absolutely reeked of cigarettes and weed. There’s a thousand signs saying it’s a nonsmoking hotel. Breakfast buffet was sickening. Pool was green and cloudy. Broken windows, broken door hardware, ripped verandas, broken remote controls……any questions???? I would have felt ripped off at half the price.

The worst lodging experience EVER!!! From the beginning this was chaos! Totally ruined mother's day weekend!! Too much to mention so i will just give a run down. Stains on the floor which i had to clean myself, the phone in the room did not work, the microwave in the room did not work, the water in the indoor pool was ice cold, the bartender charged me 3 different price for the same order, no ice buckets in room, no syrup for the waffle, the orange juice machine did not work, the snack vending machine were all empty and the manager never showed up when requested. If I could give it a negative 5 stars i would. I even called their corporate office and filed a complaint and no one has gotten back to me! NEVER STAY AT ANY WYNDHAM HOTELS!!!!!

This place has very little to recommend it. No closet/storage space in the guest room. The floor of the guest room (which was some sort of tile/composite material) was really dirty. The drain in the shower was all rusted out. The so-called breakfast bar was an absolute joke. We requested fresh towels after our first night there but never received any. The litany of complaints goes on and on. I won't be back.

Disgusting Hotel with Awful Cigarette Odor - Do Not Stay Here! My wife and some friends recently stayed at this hotel that had a terrible cigarette smoke smell throughout the entire property. As a non-smoker, it was difficult to even breathe in the lobby or hallways. The room itself also had a strong odor of smoke, despite being designated as a non-smoking room. It was clear that the hotel did not enforce their non-smoking policy, and as a result, my stay was extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant. In addition to the smell, the room was outdated and lacked basic amenities. The bed was uncomfortable, the linens were scratchy and old, and the bathroom was not properly cleaned. The staff was also unhelpful and unfriendly, making the overall experience even worse. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially non-smokers or those with allergies or respiratory issues. The cigarette smoke smell was overwhelming and made for a miserable stay. Save yourself the trouble and find a different hotel to stay at.

The staff is always kind and friendly, and really do everything to make you stay comfortable. The fact that I am a senior citizen with physical disabilities. I feel like they gave me even extra care. It seems they look out for all of their customers with the same diligence and kindness to all of their clientele. This I know firsthand so in short, this is a great and safe place to stay with your family and children.

We came into town for my daughter's wedding. We had a handicapped room. We needed the step in shower and the shower handheld was broken and simply hanging to the floor. There was no place to hang any clothes. No rack or bar in the room at all. Our room was obviously not cleaned because the previous guest had shoved toilet paper in the peepholes and it was not removed. We had no towels or soap in our room and requested it multiple times. The front desk had to give us towels from the swimming pool area because they had no access to the regular towels. The very next morning/afternoon I had to chase down the maid cart, who conveniently skipped our room, to get the things that were basic and should have been in the room. The hallway reeks of smoke even though it is clearly marked on every door that it is non smoking. Our biggest issue was that the toilet was not working in our room and could not be fixed throughout the course of an entire day. After waiting all day I went down to the front desk and demanded that it be fixed before we returned from the rehearsal dinner, to which they finally replaced the toilet, but during the entire time before that my handicapped husband and I were forced to walk up-and-down the hallway to the public bathrooms that didn't seem to be maintained or cleaned at all. I was told to call today, Monday, after 1 PM to speak to the general manager or the owner about refund/compensation. Conveniently neither of them are available and will not be for a day or 2. I had to become verbally aggressive with the poor person on the end of the phone and tell them I demanded that they take my number and have someone get back to me about this more than horrible experience. So I guess we'll wait and see...

Good prices. The room was clean, clean bed linens, floors, and bathroom. I do enjoy Christopher's pub as well. This is the 2nd time I've stayed at this hotel in the last 3 months. The first time I was on the first floor and had no issues. This time I was on the 2nd floor. The room was clean and everything was good until I went to take a shower the second day. The water pressure was so low I had trouble washing my hair, so I left after the second night without bothering to take a shower. And the water does not get very hot. I had it turned as far up as it would go. Also, they really need to tell the maid staff to not assume people are checked out at 10am, when checkout is at noon! I had the lady knock, I said I was still in here, but she must not have listened because she unlocked and opened the door until I yelled that I was still in here. Not cool. I should have told front desk staff, but I thought about it too late. On the fence on whether I'd stay again to be honest.

My husband and I booked here while visiting six flags. We got in around 11pm, within 10 minutes of being in the room, we discovered several bugs, and the room was disgusting. We spoke with the person at the front desk who was very understanding of our frustrations, left a note for management requesting a refund, and we left and stayed at another hotel an hour away (which isn’t easy at almost midnight!). Thankfully we found a hotel that was able to accommodate us. If it wasn’t for disputing with my bank I wouldn’t have even been refunded. We go to six flags every year, I will definitely pay the extra money and stay at a Hilton! I wish we got photos but we just wanted to get out of there as fast a possible. Don’t waste your time or your money staying here!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Howard Johnson in Toms River, New Jersey, and I must say it was one of the nicest hotels I've experienced since January 2nd, 2024. As movers who travel daily all over America, my team and I stay in hotels every night in different cities and states, so we have a good basis for comparison. One of the standout features of the Howard Johnson was the balcony suited for smokers. As non-smoking rooms, it was convenient to have a designated area for smokers to enjoy their cigarettes without disturbing other guests. This attention to detail was appreciated. Upon checking in, I was greeted by a friendly lady at the front desk. She went above and beyond by switching our room from one near the elevator to a quieter and more peaceful room, free from distractions. Her willingness to accommodate our request was commendable and made our stay more enjoyable. However, we did encounter a minor issue with the cleanliness of the room she switched us to. The bathroom and one of the beds were not properly cleaned, which was disappointing. However, the front desk staff handled the situation with professionalism and promptly provided us with a different room. Their willingness to rectify the situation was a positive aspect of our experience. I also noticed the attention to detail in the room's decor. The ceiling was done in patterns, which showed a level of care in preparing the room for future guests. This added touch added to the overall ambiance and made the room feel more welcoming. As a representative of Agility Van Lines, a company that brings a local approach to long-distance moving, I would like to express our appreciation for the pleasant stay at the Howard Johnson. Nuff respect from Alfred and Dwight. Thank you again for providing us with a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

I could not be more pleased with the employees and management. Highly recommend for the price or if you are looking for a quick place to get away for the night. It's right in the middle of everything in toms River under 10 minutes. Will definitely come back if they'll get have us 🤎

Honesty NOT bad for wanting to stay somewhere close to the beach away from other nasty hotels with bed bugs. The room was huge, semi to moderately clean (the beds were clean which meant more to me than the quality of the showers). Also great location for tons of restaurants. The only thing I’d warn is that the “included breakfast” is barely managed, so there’s a good chance you won’t get coffee and/or food from it.

I would love to give you 5 stars. I have no idea who the woman was that helped us was, but I think her name started with a T. My brother was really beside himself... Couldn't stop talking about it/her. If I could get her name then I will gladly give the hotel 5 stars and a glowing review in place of this one. We had a very pleasant experience and would like to tell everyone about it...

I liked the room's sliding door for light and air that opens to private sitting area to parking lot. Makes easy access to car. My room is old. No bugs. Bathtub needs refinishing, peeled paint on bathroom floor, water cups directly on table, blow dryer, iron ironing board, microwave n fridge complimentary soap bar and shampoo,.

We left in the middle of the night, because the room and that was the second room because the first one had a leak and water was all over the floor. The second was old and paint was falling off the walls and it was nice to the bar. The music played loudly until 12:00am.

This hotel is absolutely uninhabitable. When we arrived tonight, there was garbage piled around the enterences, the hallway carpets looked worn and were visibly dirty with crumbs and dirt. The room itself stinks of mold. Furniture is falling apart. The bathroom is dirty. The bathroom sink is falling away from the wall. There are stains and scuffs on the walls. There is no top sheet on the beds. I am disgusted. This place is unhinged.

I had the worst experience staying at this hotel on 7/11/23. I called in advance at 7am the day of check in & asked if I could be put in an area that would be as quiet as possible so I could get some good sleep. The receptionist told me that could not be done because they had not assigned rooms. I checked in the same day & reminded the receptionist I wanted the quietest room to sleep in yet again. She said she’d put me on the second floor in room 232. The next day at 630 AM I was awakened to being in the middle of multiple rooms reserved for a Bar Mitzvah of children running, screaming and calling the room by phone until 9am. At 820 am I begged the same reception to cancel my second day & refund me which she said she would not especially because I booked through Expedia. I asked for the manager named JAWAL and was told he was on vacation. After that my trip was ruined and obviously I would never go back. Now remember it’s not the patrons fault it’s the hotel management’s. They could have easily avoided this by thinking just a little bit in advance when ‘blocking the rooms’ . Oh also note: they had full on maintenance creeping around painting the balconies outside all rooms at peak season. Attention maintenance make sure you don’t make fixing the leaky shower faucet causing mold damage and funk on the bathroom floor, just paint the balcony so it looks good on the outside. You could not access your own balcony . Great property management (sarcasm).

I showed up after 2pm to check in, I got everything set with the front desk. I go to my room and they are still cleaning it. Why have a 2pm check in if the rooms aren't going to be ready. I'm told to wait 20 minutes. After driving for hrs and wanting a place to rest before I head out for more adventures. Maybe have a 3 pm check in instead of 2pm

First off the moment my friends, and I walked into our hotel room it had reeked of bleach. We also noticed that there was a patch of mold on the walls. Checked out the pool… that was murky. Ice machine was leaking, and we noticed again mold in the machine. Our SHOWER just would not drain properly. The front desk was incompetent. They doubled charged us with our original price being $243, and the second charge was close to $500. They threw our age against us knowing that the situation was their fault, and saying it’s our fault for not “paying attention” even though the paperwork they made us sign had the CORRECT amount that we should have been charged, and how long our stay was. She kept telling us we had to wait for her associate who made this mistake to fix it despite her being the front desk manager. Eventually the front desk manager gave back our money even though she told us she was waiting for the associate. So not only did they waste close to an hour of our time, not admitting their mistake, didn’t apologize at ALL, blamed us, and judge us for our age… the front desk manager could have easily fixed this by realizing their mistake. In addition to refunding our money. Three different people came in while the manager was trying to fix the situation, and those guest were all asking for their rooms to be changed. Due to multiple issues. If you honestly care about your money, and time. I would highly suggest NOT booking here.

I was worried about this motel after I saw all the reviews that I didn't check before booking. So when we got there we checked out the pool first. Yeah, didn't want to swim in it. But then again, we were there for the shore anyway. When would we have had time to get in the pool? So I had the manager show us the room in advance of checking in. She was very accommodating. I was honest with her--I told her I had seen some unfavorable reviews. The room was sparse, but clean, and we decided to stay there. The motel was actually booked full. So here's my take on it. This is the Jersey Shore. If you are from out of state or never been there--you might think the rooms are terrible (at any number of shore motels). But the truth is, most all of the motels are like that unless you want to pay hundreds of dollars a night for some posh place. These motels are beat to heck. And mangers and owners keep them sparse because chances are you're going to fill them with sand and dirt and use their towels to wipe the sand and grit off your feet. Don't think for a second the shore doesn't come with you back to those rooms. I doubt you'll find carpet in any motel rooms at the shore as they would fill with sand. In addition, people party hard and break things and are not kind to these rooms. They have been Worn and Used over time. What you are looking for on the shore is a clean room with helpful, kind people at the desk. Most often you'll get only what you need: a bar of soap, a few towels, and a bed. Enjoy--you're at the Jersey Shore!

This place should be shut down. To start, I like to say that people live here. It's like the most disgraceful place I've ever stayed in. My kids were unhappy, miserable, and disgusted with the presentation of the place and did not feel safe. They did not have towels, but rather, pool towels are what they offered their guest. Also, the breakfast waffle tasted sour. I would not recommend a dog to stay here, that's how bad it was.

Stayed 1 night for a baseball tournament. The first impression of the outside and lobby was a wonderful start. Quick and easy check-in and affordable rates. The room was absolutely beautiful, a lot of space, wonderful scent, resources and security. The people who work there are very hard working and great at their jobs of maintaining the hotel. The people staying are wonderful and very good company to be with. Breakfast was amazing. Everyone behaved very civilized and the food was exquisite. I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend to every single person I heard was going to Tom’s River.

The rooms are run down and not very clean. One room had what I hope was ketchup on the floor upon checking in. Several of our outlets were not operating. Out of 5 rooms, we had 1 microwave that worked. There was a homeless person sitting on the floor in the hallway one day and apparently it’s because the doors are not secured. The 2nd night it rained and 2 rooms had ceiling leaks. One was so bad that the room could not be occupied because the leak was over the bed and they refunded us for one night. The other room wasn’t that bad but they said they didn’t have anymore rooms so they had to sleep in it for the night. And most of the hotel smelled like pot.

The hotel could be so much better than it is now. The bedroom smells all the time. They never cleaned our bedroom even after we asked them. We stayed for 3 days and never took out the garbage or swept. Everything is old, which is ok, but some things were really dirty, like the balcony chairs, never cleaned before. The lobby was very comfy, but that's all. The swimming pool is abandoned 😞 Really, this place has great potential, but nobody cares.

Adequate rooms, definitely needs updating. Very clean and friendly staff. Stayed here for a nearby dance competition. Easy check in, only downside is no elevator access to 2nd level. But its only one level up so its not a big deal. Have no other issues here, would stay here again. Its perfectly fine for a place to shower and rest your head. We have a queen double room and its super spacious and the outside balcony is an added bonus.

The rooms smelled like smoke, if you are like me and have health issues like asthma ,DO NOT STAY HERE ! Just don't stay here regardless. This is definitely not smoke-free,which they claim to be . Stayed in the room for a minute and my chest got tight, curtains, beds ,room ;literally everywhere was cigarette smoke. There "upgraded rooms" needs to be upgraded, light fixtures were loose, there are extension cords for all lights, some light fixtures were hanging out the wall, the main door had a huge gap, so definitely someone can see into your room . Wyndham needs to have this place inspected again or take their name off it and not recommend to anyone.

We needed to stay for family emergency. Mile & a half from Community Medical Center. Nice room & nice free breakfast. We ate (& drank) at pub. Very friendly with locals. Accommodations are poor, rooms have a stent. smells of an odor that is similar to pets and cats. Ventilation in the rooms are not good. especially if you have any health issues like asthma or any breathing problems or chest pains. Nausea from the hotel is evident and would not ever recommend this location for any reason. The facilities do not and would not be able to accommodate a change of rooms. It would be best to find another location or find a rest stop where you can get a better rest elsewhere or your vehicle. STAY AWAY.

Horrible. No warm water in bathroom shower. No tissues in bathroom. Looks didn’t work on bathroom or back door. The safety lock was broken on front door. There were only 2 lights in the entire room. No crib for the baby, although such a crib was advertised. I’m sure there were other things but that’s all that comes to mind right now. It deserves 1-star at least, instead of 0-stars, because there were no bed bugs at least.

The good: Great reception, you get a free light breakfast, the staff is friendly and the rooms are nice (mine was 202), plus the price is very accessible! The pub looks nice but i didnt checked it. The “bad”: the pool being so cold all the time, but still perfectly usable in a hot day, be aware that you have to give an extra 100$ in case of damages but you get them on your check out. Overall a nice experience, its my second time staying here and my go-to hotel when visiting newark. 8/10 c:

We had the pleasure of staying there for 4 days. I have to start by saying the staff there, from the people who clean the rooms, to the front desk, are beyond nice and helpful. The rooms were clean, and having your own private balcony is always nice. There is a quick grab and go type free breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. which is great to start your day with. If I had to choose one thing that needs improvement it would have to be the temperature of the indoor pool. We loved the fact of the indoor pool but the temperature of the water despite being told it was in the 70s, was not. We went there every day and the water was freezing. But honestly that would really be the only negative I would have to say. It's a wonderful place to stay I would highly recommend it to anyone and I know we will return. Thank you to the lovely staff who took care of us.
