9 years ago I had one of the most profound art experiences of my life listening to my heartbeat that had been recorded years before in the exhibition room at Les Archives de Coeur. It was like unexpectedly meeting a younger version of myself, and it was an experience that moved me beyond words. Sadly, they have changed the system so you just listen to a randomized heartbeat in the installation, which makes it a completely different experience and artwork. You can still listen to your heartbeat on headphones at a computer, but it’s not the same experience. Please bring back the ability to look up and exhibit your own heartbeat.

Small single installation in a very beautiful minimal design building in a remote and serene part of the island. The installation, frankly scared the **** out of me. My partner and I were the only ones there and if you can experience being in that room alone.... I highly recommend it. Nightmare inducing, at the cost of an oddly strange, thought provoking and wonderful experience. Pictures not allowed, you can't capture the experience with a camera anyways.

Gorgeous place, but if you have something like this by the beach, then clean the beach of all the rubbish. It's not a large area, but the beach is poluted. People that come to your exhibition, which is wonderful, will always walk down the water as it's part of its beauty. Please take the time to preserve the full area.

wonderful idea, but I am not brave enough to get into that room while l am alone here. I don’t know why it felt a little bit frightening when I heard such strong heart beat

Unique experience! Located in a Very small house made by just 3 rooms including installation and heart beat recorder. No anticipation at all. Has to be tryed and lived in person! We’ve experienced in a reasonable time both: Les archives di cover as well as teshima art museum. They’re affordable walking or better bike distance each other. For art passionate is a Bad mistake to miss one of the two! I was there During week in the morning: No ticket reservation I n advance were required and no waiting at the arrival.

The place is really small. One room to listen to the heartbeat. One room for recording. One room for displaying the heartbeat, which is a bit scary and very dark. I don't think the idea is impressive. Heartbeat is unique to everyone not like fingerprint or DNA. It's not possible to retrieve back to person given a piece of heartbeat sound.

Quite expensive for such a short experience but if you have more time, definitely allow yourself to be fully immersed in the heartbeat room. Beautiful and poetic concept by artist Christian Boltanski. Staff dress in lab coats and allow you to take a recording of your heartbeat to be included in a growing archive of diverse heartbeats.

Well worth a visit as it's on a quiet side beach. Easy access and not busy on a Winter day in mid-December. Fun experience to record your own heartbeat and contribute to the artwork. Memorable, sentimental, and a nice keepsake.

A bit underwhelming. The concept is cool, but I would rather visit the small art houses around the island than doing this

Great ocean view with a window frame became into a real picture which was so dramatic in my life, and I mostly love the outside the museum. There was only me and could occupy the beach. There weren’t big waves and no garbages, I could hear only peaceful sounds. If you go there, please close your eyes and be relaxed as much:)!

It's okay. Its interesting to listen to others' heartbeats and the dark room is cool! It's a shame that you cannot listen to your own heartbeat using the equipment included in the admission fee, as it's very expensive to record your heartbeat to add to the collection. They should allow visits to listen to their heartbeats for free - this would make the exhibition more interactive. It's a very small exhibition, I probably wouldn't visit again and there is much better art elsewhere on the island.

Waste of time and very expensive to go into one room and listen to a random heartbeat. 500 yen for that and an additional 1500 yen to record your own heartbeat. There are much better art places to visit on the island. I would just spend more time at the Teishima art musuem.

In incredible experience! Engulfed by the loud heartbeats and complete darkness (with flashes of lights), it‘s like you’re inside someone else’s body, where the existence of life is enormously felt, yet, any split second between the heartbeats will instantly give you a sense of insecurity and anxiety as if at anytime the life in front of you would be gone for good.

One of the best experiences I’ve had in japan. Take the time, appreciate the insights, and get in touch with your heart. It’s worth it.

OK. This one’s a bit quirky, but it had its power. Choosing to hear random peoples’ hearts while staring at the Inland Sea may not sound like art but the whole process is undeniably a solid piece of it. Much to love, including the walk from the Teshima Museum. A hint: don’t take the main road back but the one through the forest…it’s a gorgeous walk and adds only a little time.

Worth recording the heart sounds. Not recommended for people who are afraid of loud noises, claustrophobia and nyctophobia.

I searched for people who share the same family name with me, and the latest one left a message that read “cor cordium, heart of hearts”, and her/his heart beats like a war drum(no.51700). As I went through the archives, I felt the linkage among humans. It’s really interesting. Come and find me (no.51714)
