Interesting place to visit at least once. It’s not big so you can see everything in 2hrs. I loved the fact that they offered free coat check but no one was there to supervise it. If you have an expensive coat/jacket don’t leave it there! It’s a really beautiful place, and I enjoyed my time there. However, I was not happy with the lighting of the whole place as I found it dark and not the best type for a museum since we are there to observe the items and read description. The place could of used some nice music but didn’t have any. The security guards were good. The items placed too close to each other and it didn’t have any specific order to follow. Lots of scripts, paintings and old books to look at. If you love museums you should go but if you are looking for a fun museum definitely not the best to be at!

An excellent display of Persian, Mughal art work. They have a large collection of books and manuscripts. The museum is designed well and they have a very good collection which they keep on changing from time to time. Definitely one of the places to visit in Toronto if you are an art buff. They also have a gift shop with a wide variety of Turkish crockery, silk ties, silk scarfs and beautiful art work for sale.

This is a pleasant visit for the family, Sunday's are good with children as they have some craft activities from 12-4pm. The main exhibition was well laid out and plenty of manuscripts to see. The special exhibition had many beautiful garments. I enjoyed learning Islamic history from Persia, South Asia, China as well as some Christian and Jewish history. Quite amazed by the historical manuscript collection. I'm Really Very Happy to See that Museum 😊.

Interesting exhibits and very informative. A beautiful building and space. It does feel as if they could add more here, but overall very worth a visit.

The museum itself was set in a beautiful green area, with modern buildings and sculptures. The collections on display were truly amazing, offering a wealth of opportunities to learn. However, I must admit that the staff at the Esmaili Center were not very polite, which left me wondering about their behavior. While they tried to create a visually appealing environment, I believe more effort should be directed towards fostering a friendlier and more courteous team. We visited on a door open day, and I'm not sure if it would be worth paying for a ticket on a regular day, unless you have a deep appreciation for Islamic art and culture.

Amazing place to visit. It is not a big musuem but it is built on middle-eastern architecture and there you can find many unique items from different countries and regions and different cultures from ancient times to temporary era. A very well designed and decorated place with comfortable environment. Thanks Agha Khan museum.

I highly recommend visiting this world class museum! I had an amazing experience visiting the Aga Khan. Not only is it spectacular architecturally, but the way in which they display their collection is innovative and informative. The artifacts they have are impressive, and with many audio tours available you can visit the museum many times, each time having a different experience. Such a peaceful space!

Peaceful and calm walking around this museum. Learnt so much. Everyone working there from security to gift store to coat check and in exhibit staff were incredibly friendly and willing to offer suggestions on how to move through the museum! Can’t wait to return in the summer to see the grounds in full bloom!

Such a gorgeous museum! We got in for free for DoorsOpen TO event. It was lovely. You have to pay for parking which isn't too much and the outdoor area/garden is super pretty (anyone can access this even without a ticket). Nice spot to relax.

It was a nice experience. There are so many artifacts and the layout inside the museum was marvelous. We were lucky to get a tour. To get someone to show you the history of different materials. Also state of geography of different areas from the middle East and Asia. You get to know different cultures and lifestyles. There is a Cafe if you wish to rest and take a bite. The staff were helpful and welcoming. It is a good place to tour students from Middle schools or High school to it. There is a lot of parking space as well as outdoor space if you enjoy.

The museum has good architecture. Good number of religious artifacts however not great amount of collections. This is one time go and watchable place. But, it is must go place who are interested to learn civilization and to know about Islamic traditions. Religion means the way of life. So, anyone can go and explore the different cultures. Good time to visit this place is in Summer. As the garden has lavender farm and other nice flowers.

We had a wonderful time at Aga Khan and learned so much about Islamic culture. The architecture is magnificent! Great spot for photos as well. We took our toddler there and spent about 1.5 hours there. The building is beautiful outside as well as inside. There is a cafe, restaurant and gift shop inside. Nice place for a date.

An excellent architectural masterpiece built by great architects from across the world. Every minute details are considered in design, from landscape and play of leaves colours, water elements to bring in mirror effects, texture from granite from Latin American countries. Wandering through the campus is a learning experience and a joy for all 5 senses.

The Aga Khan Museum is a truly stunning institution that is absolutely worth a visit. Its architecture is both impressive and beautiful. The museum's mission is to showcase and curate art from historically significant Muslim civilizations, as well as contemporary Muslim communities worldwide. This diverse collection spans across a vast geographic area, encompassing regions from Spain and North Africa in the west to the Middle East, South Asia, and even China in the east.

Notwithstanding the architectural delight this museum is, its collections are compelling, highly informative and absolutely stunning. We attended Caravans of Gold recently and were completely gobsmacked...who knew? I love learning new things even at my age and I came away a lot wiser. Bravo to the Aga Kahn Museum for putting on such an intelligent exhibition. I am forever in your debt.

Excellent and interesting museum on the history and customs of Muslim Culture history and society. The building is monumental and impressive in its architectural statement. Ground floor has permanent installations and the second floor had a temporary exhibit celebrating the life of the mystic and poet Rumi! Go on Wednesday after 4pm when it’s free for all, a community gift. Or if you have a Toronto library membership you can go online and book a free pass for two adults and two kids. The outdoor park has a few gigantic reflecting pools and a beautiful structured oasis. There is also a chrome sculpture by an artist of the script in Arabic of the word meaning “nothing”. This was how everything in the universe was created, out of nothing. Very well worth the visit. The Rumi exhibit was well organized, engaging and informative. Well we’ll worth the visit. You can take a tour using an app they recommend but I was too tired and wanted to wander at Will on my own timing. They have a local musician that performs in the ground floor at set times. It started at 5pm when we were there. Parking is a flat rate of $10.

It's a place where people from all walks of life can come to appreciate the beauty of Islamic art and gain a broader perspective on a diverse and vibrant culture. Whether you're a history enthusiast, an art lover, or simply curious about different cultures, the Aga Khan is a must-visit. If you want to go here by public transport, would highly recommend going by taxi to save time and hassle. The maple trees alone were worth the trip, even the Uber driver hopped out to take photos 😄. I arrived early and was the first visitor on a Sunday morning, but the time I left (as ate at the restaurant), it was much busier. There was much to see, and I spent two hours wandering around the exhibits and park. Was nobody to ask questions about the exhibits though. I asked at reception and was told to ask at the free museum tour, but I didn't stay for that as had to leave to go elsewhere. The online commentary wouldn't download on my phone and kept coming up with an accessibility error, so had to rely on the museum display cards for information. Part of the museum was also closed. A relaxed and enjoyable visit, nonetheless.

This museum is a gem: the architecture, the permanent collection, the gardens. It was our first visit and we truly enjoyed our time there. We were welcome by a very friendly staff member who was generous in explaining the museum to us. It was thus easy to roam around and appreciate our time. There was even live musicians in the main hall! We were visiting between temporary exhibitions so only had the collections to visit. It was not a problem for us because that’s what we wanted to see. Plus, the price was adjusted accordingly. The visit was very informative and interesting. The objects shown are quite impressive. The gardens and the architectural elements are just a masterpiece. You feel at peace visiting. Really, a must see!

I learn so much about the history of Islam at this museum. It’s a shame we aren’t taught this in school. Every exhibit is an adventure into the creative, spiritual and dedicated minds of Muslims who impacted the world before us. The main floor is fascinating; it displays a wide range of Islamic empires and each era’s imprint left through art, literature, and stories passed down. I recommend that you don’t leave without trying the braised lamb shank at Diwan restaurant and enjoying their live music evenings.

A must-visit serene and educational spot in Toronto as it gives you an interesting insight into Islamic history/art/culture. The lighting is perfect for taking pictures too! Sometimes it's easy to get bored with museums. This was not the case! Some of the item are so rare and valuable, I felt lucky to see them in my lifetime. I also visited the Museum's Temporary Exhibition Gallery, Afghanistan My Love which highlighted Afghanistan as a place of cultural richness, diversity, and deep love.

Definitely a great spot to spend a Saturday or a Sunday afternoon. The museum has a cafe and a restaurant attached to it. I found the tickets to be a bit pricey considering the exhibition it had going wasn’t that expansive- but this is a personal opinion. Definitely worth a weekend or a few weekends in a year with your friends and your family.

The Aga Khan Museum is undeniably one of the best places to immerse yourself in art, design, and serenity within the heart of Toronto. I find myself addicted to exploring their ever-evolving and profoundly meaningful galleries every time I visit. The warmth that envelopes you here is truly special, and the staff is exceptional – offering a complimentary coat-check service, which is such a thoughtful touch. My recent visit coincided with Nuit Blanche, and I was delighted to discover that the permanent gallery was open to the public for free, along with a myriad of other captivating programs and shows. This museum is a must-visit gem in Toronto, and I highly recommend indulging in the culinary delights at their restaurant, Diwan. An all-encompassing experience for art enthusiasts and anyone seeking a touch of tranquility in the city. 🎨🏛️🍽️

I want to express my gratitude to the Aga Khan Museum for bringing together these remarkable pieces, many of which hail from my homeland, Iran. While some may label them as Islamic art, I personally prefer to categorize them as Persian art pieces. It brings me joy to know that these treasures are safeguarded here, ensuring their preservation for future generations.

Museum perhaps has one of the best collections of Islamic Art anywhere in the world and it rotates periodically. It covers Arts from different countries including Iran, Turkey, and India. Also has variety of Arts including painting and various objects. I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested and Islamic Art to visit the museum at least once. The prices are reasonable and there is a gift shop with cool stuff. It also houses one of the best restaurants in the city.

A place for Art lovers. The museum has lots of historic photos on display as well as antiques. It takes longer to travel there from city centre with public transport. Make sure you check the prayer time before going there because this museum is a part of a religious prayer centre. Shia Ismaili people pray in the prayer centre.

I have never been but my entire sight seeing family did a day I was sick and everyone loved it so much. Very educational even from hearing what my dad had to say after I would love to and will go myself . I have walked by the architecture for years. Nowadays you can build a pyramid physically and visually proven.

Pretty stunning location with superb collection of art from all over the Islamic world. The building and setting is ascetically minimalist. A haven of peace amid the hustle amid the commercial buildings in its neighbourhood. The gift shop contains some beautiful ceramics and other items brought in from across the globe. Well worth a visit. I will have to go back and use one of the audio tours as the collection is so extensive it needs a story to hang together.

This was my second time at Aga khan museum. The first time was for a concert. Both the times, the hospitality of the staff were extremely warm and kind. I’ve never seen that kind of vibe from any of the museums before. Thank you for that! :) The night in the garden of love exhibition was spectacular and made me learn some new things such as ‘Autophysiopsychic’ which very much resonated with me. Now I am digging the music of Yusuf Lateef! Loved all the pieces and the huge wall mural depicting history with lights! (For the lack of better words) I was looking to see more on Sufi dance and the like but didn’t find much. Overall, loved it! Would love to visit again! There is a nice restaurant and a cute little cafe in. The cafe thankfully has plant-based milk options for coffee! The cute little gift shop had exotic jewelry, scarf and lots of books on Sufi!

The history of Persia (Iran) unfolds in room after room of well-explained art and artifacts. Special exhibits and even performances and lectures take place in the auditorium. There's also both a cafe and good sit-down restaurant here. A bit out-of-the-way but worth a stop.

I came here for Doors Open with some friends as none of us had ever been before. We had a nice lunch at Diwan (great place by the way!) by the entrance of the museum before walking around to explore the ground floor artifacts on display, courtyard, and beautiful surroundings outside. There was even a traditional performance in the courtyard at one point. We enjoyed our visit despite the fact that it was very busy and it seemed that professional photos were being taken everywhere that afternoon. We got some great photos of the beautiful exterior, surrounding fountains and gardens despite this. It was understandably a lot more serene outside in the gardens and by the fountains. I can imagine some having a nice peaceful lunch or reading a book when the weather is nice by those areas. I enjoyed my time here as part of a girls afternoon and really couldn't complain as it was free admission for the areas that we explored that day. Some of the other reviewers mentioned feeling like they paid a lot for what they saw and that this museum is smaller than others for similar pricing. The ground floor artifacts are nice but not plentiful so I can see people feeling a bit let down by that. I didn't see the paid exhibitions though so I can't comment on whether the pricing was worth it for that or parking as I was dropped off. I think it's fair to say that if you want to visit and get some nice pictures, wait for an opportunity to go for free admission during the week (Wednesday I think)

It’s a beautiful piece of architecture. Seeing and walking into the building was enough reason for me to visit the museum. It’s not a big museum but enough to learn, understand and appreciate the culture and history. Little bits of information is sometimes more useful for me as I can spend more time on each item. They also have activity areas which makes the museum child-friendly.

When heading north towards Kaghan, Naran, Babusar Chilas etc this is the last decent fuel station that you would come your way. Fill your vehicle's fuel tank if you want to avoid fueling from mostly small shops that sell fuel stored in cans and drums. There is a small tuck shop as well. Your second option could be one by PSO located at main bazar in Naran but that's not as good.

A beautiful building housing an outstanding collection of art and artifacts that helps visitors to.explore new perspectives on Islamic civilization. Well curated and with a great array of audio tours available on your mobile device (don't forget your headphones or earbuds). I like the fact that photography was permitted (without flash please!) I enjoy being able to take a photograph of interesting pieces so that I can study them after my visit. My visit left me wishing that I read Arabic, as so many of the pieces have beautiful calligraphy. Many pieces are from the Quran and also from pieces of great Islamic literature. Beautiful works of illuminated manuscripts and other artwork abound.

I have visited the museum twice before, both times were relativity positive experiences, minus the staff trying (and succeeding) to upsell me at the gift shop (I spent well over $100 each of those times). I visited this past week with my sister and had a horrendous experience, upon entering we were asked if we had tickets, and I said we are visiting the cafe and Bellerive room, we got a funny look, but we brushed it off.. we went to the gift shop 12 mins before closing time and asked if we could come inside... the woman at the door said in an annoyed voice "Are you actually going to buy something!?" I was absolutely stunned and caught off guard... she probably made this comment due to the racist stigma that all South Asians are cheap... seeing my reaction she jokingly said "hahaha, if you don't buy something i'll have you banned" trying to uncomfortably make light of her previous comment... I felt quite uncomfortable being in there and left. (in past visits I've bought scarves, CDs, 8 different books, coasters, key chains, bookmarks, prayer beads, and a tie) The museum is absolutely architecturally stunning.. I visit museums in every city I travel to... my particular favourite is the Met in NYC, they have an immensely large collection of artefacts from Muslim civilisations, as well as a gift shop that has items in all price ranges. architecturally, AKM is one of the finest museums I have seen, but the collection and gallery are quite underwhelming given the $20 entrance fee... I love the museum, but the staff/volunteers needs to be upgraded or trained on customer service and not generalising customers based on their racial background.

The museum is an architectural marvel All the artefacts and pieces are carefully placed along with their history mentioned, definitely recommend to get one of the guides to show you around. You really get to know about Islamic history over time. Parking is a little expensive at $10 regardless of time spent there ( they have both overground and basement parking)

Wonderful collection of items, although a few things they could improve on. Lighting in some areas is just awful and it’s hard to see the beautiful details of the pieces. Some pieces need cleaning from dust/cobwebs, and some of the display boxes seem too large for the items so it again makes it hard to really appreciate any details. When multiple items are displayed they are not numbered and so it is difficult to sometimes understand which items are being described, and with the descriptions some are placed on the lower part of displays, making them difficult to read. They cover a wonderful amount of Islamic history, but have completely forgotten about areas of the world that are rich in Islamic art and culture, such as Bosnia.

Excellent architecture and marvelous art collection. Truly an inspiration to many upcoming artist and out of the box image gallery theme. Left visitors speechless and deep dived in methodological explanation to art piece. The journey of art from Asia to Africa and Canada is rapturous. Pro tip: Visit the museum on Wednesday from 4-8PM EDT will give you free access to exhibition. Reserve your table at Deewan restaurant in advance to avail ongoing perks and discounts.

A great visit... Beautiful grounds and exhibits. Spent three hours there. You could do in less or more time depending on how much you want to read/listen. Had a light lunch (egg and croissant sandwich $9.99) in the lovely courtyard. Very clean building... All doors are non-contact (wave hand to open). The temporary photo exhibit outside is a pleasant walk and informative. If you want to visit the Ismaili center nextdoor, it's only open to public tours on Saturdays (book 2 days before though). Open for prayers every day I think. Across the road is the Japanese Cultural Centre, open for free. I recommend a visit to all three in one day.

This temple of truth and tolerance finally adds something interesting amidst the dull concrete facades along Wynford drive. The reflecting pools outside complements the white marble structure that is the stand in for 'Vulcan' on Star Trek Discovery. The exhibits also shows how connected we are with Persian, Chinese, Turkish influences on Islamic art all housed in a building designed by a Japanese architect. Celebrate diversity and inclusion here.

The Museum was underwhelmingly short and ended about as soon as it started although the exhibit was fascinating, the length left a bad taste overall. I would still suggest you visit but don't expect to spend too much time inside. However, the exterior architecture is beautiful and the events happening outside were very interesting.

An architectural gem in Toronto, both the grounds and the building. Beautiful and thoughtful. A wonderful museum too in terms of its holdings and as a total visitor experience with a restaurant, gift shop and theatre. Visible from the Don Valley Parkway as you commute, I highly recommend that Torontonians take a chance on visiting.

Pretty, and amazing pieces from the Islamic world. The tour is great, and the second floor apparently imports/swaps out their collection fairly often. So if you have a friend or someone who wants to check it out and hasn't seen it yet, it's worth visiting again. The building itself is gorgeous and there's a restaurant to eat there as well, so after you walk around for a couple of hours, you can take a quick break there.

Museum is small and took us about an hour. Good exhibits. I wish they had audio guides - you would learn a lot more. There are physical tours but timing is a challenge. It’s too bad they don’t have more carpets and jewels or any paintings of sculptures. It was like visiting a small wing of a bigger museum. They need more big ticket permanent items to keep a draw of customers. Grounds are lovely. Restaurant is fabulous.

(Translated by Google) This large museum is located in the picturesque Toronto area of Canada and is dedicated to Prince Agahan. It describes in detail how Islam has grown and developed from ancient times. The artworks and handicrafts on display are originals from the early Islamic world. Exhibits are from the northwest Indian subcontinent (then called "Hinstan", as shown in the plaque), Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish. and many more.

What an absolutely amazing experience. I would highly recommend taking a proper tour as it really puts all the artifacts in to context. Our tour guide was Mohamed. He truly made our educational experience one of the best (if not THE best) we've had in a museum /gallery setting. The "Your way begins on the Other Side" tapestry was simply exquisite and the personal story that Mohamed interwove was compelling, touching and remarkable. The food in the Diwan Restaurant was hands down one of the top 10 meals I've ever hand. (coming from a foodie who has traveled the planet sampling culinary delights from dozens of cultures and hundreds of gastronomic types... That's quite a feat...) Thank you for educating me, my beautiful wife and my son (on his 18th birthday) and thank you for doing it with such grace and open arms. We will definitely be back for more lessons...

A truly unique experience. I’ve been to the Aga Khan a couple of times before, but it never gets old. The new REMASTERED exhibit is particularly eye-opening, and the permanent collection is always worth re-examining and reflecting on. Means a lot to have a genuinely great museum that takes Islamic art and histoey seriously, but without being preachy.

I would have expected a larger collection. The display and collection are well thought out and feature a wide range of materials including rare books, carpets and pots. The building and surroundings are beautiful. We visited during Covid and admission was free but paid for the parking. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The gift shop was way overpriced and needs to consider bringing in merchandise that is more affordable. I was looking for their magnet which they didn't have. Overall a nice visit for anyone interested in arts with a focus on Islamic arts.

Nice museum to visit if you are interested in calligraphy, carpets, porcelaine and intricate carvings. This is a very good museum, that beautifully presents its tight collection. The design of the building is beautiful, with lots of light in the lobby. The main exhibition room takes around an hour for a good look at the items. There is a lovely range of attifants from across Syria, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Spain and India. Of particular note are the writings and drawings from 16th century Iran covering the Shahnameh.

Interesting place to visit! There are lot of scripts, writings, and art pieces if you are interested. It is not huge to spend whole day, you can finish it in 1-2hr. The staff is nice and friendly. There is cafe to sit and relax, also restaurant. I didn’t try restaurant or cafe food so cannot comment on it. I found it little dark in terms of lighting. Art pieces are at adult height, it is not the great place to visit with baby or toddler.

Excellent museum. We got to visit as part of Doors Open Toronto. They should advertise that they have underground parking clearly, so not everyone is lining up for the limited outdoor spots. The grounds of the museum are very clean and serene. It's calming walking around especially at night. They had live music in the courtyard, which was very nice. The exhibits are also great with lots of history. There are beautiful artifacts from all over the globe on display. The auditorium is very beautiful. We really enjoyed our visit.

First time visiting the place. It's an amazing place that offers many activities in addition to their permanent museum. The whole place in general is phenomenal, and the arts in display are amazing even the pieces they added to the different corners of the museum, what amazed me more were the historical wooden pieces on the restaurant which I heard that it came from Damascus and all old hand made. I will revisit to explore more but a must visit place in Toronto.

I am so impressed by this museum outlook, it is modern and beautiful. In one pool outside the entrance, a sentence is made upside down so that you can only read it in the water reflection when the pool water is still. Very interesting! The museum has one museum collections on the first floor and a temporary exhibition on the second floor. Collections are fewer than expected. Admission is $20 for adult. Free admission on every Wednesday 4-8pm.

Very beautiful museum, architecturally, with informative displays about the history of Islamic art. However, I was really disappointed to find out there is no prayer room available within the premises. I hope the management will consider implementing an Islamic prayer room, within an Islamic art museum - it’s only right.
