A wonderful culinary experience! I had the three course taster menu, which comes with an accompanying starter platter and a pallette cleanser before dessert. A wonderful array of food with flavours on each dish working together! Would have loved larger portion sizes of course, but it is fine dining! I feel the waiters could have been more engaging. However, overall excellent place! Well worth a visit.

If I could give this place 6 out of 5 stars I would! Until now, I never realised that food could be art. I have experienced fine dining before, but never like this. The environment is relaxed and down to earth and the flavours are condensed and profound! Eating here will leave you satisfied rather than stuffed. Well worth the money for our date night! Luke, our chef for the evening, created and presented us with exquisite beautiful food and refined tastes with a down to earth Yorkshire delivery. Each bite was a burst of complementing flavours that left your mind empty of anything but the food in your mouth. Our Sommelier Nathan was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the flavours of the drinks that would pair with our curated menu for the evening. All the wait staff were invisibly attentive. The table was reset whenever we left for a couple of minutes and the table was ours for the duration of the evening. Comfortable, relaxing, informal setting with fine cuisine was the perfect balance. I would recommend you save up and book here. 1 night in this restaurant is worth 10 nights in any other! Thank you Rafters for an unforgettable night.

We had a table for two as a birthday treat, facing the kitchen. The staff really make a difference here; attentive, helpful, and friendly. The 6 course tasting menu consists of incredible ingredients and well-thought-out ideas, executed in a delicate manner. I did not leave the restaurant uncomfortably full, and so I'd suggest not missing out on the cheeseboard, consisting of Yorkshire produce.

If I could leave 6 stars I would, having visited the Kitchen Bench tonight I was not left with an ounce of disappointment. The menu ate exceptionally well, it’s takes you on a journey from the first bite to the last, there was genius in every course with their twists on classic dishes. The kitchen bench was very generous with the courses and both my partner and I left with our bellies full, I cannot recommend this place enough, the food perfection, the staff wonderful and the atmosphere magical. A true pleasure from start to finish and a place I’d return to in a heartbeat we loved it.

The food at rafters is an amazing experience. Every time I have visited the restaurant I am amazed by the unique flavours and the quality of the food. Would definitely recommend it. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant.

Had a really exceptional meal here. We chose the tasting menu, and every course was delicious. The ambience is modern and relaxed, the chairs are really comfortable and the food is well presented and just tastes amazing. I always think you just have to trust the chef when having one of these menus, and even if there's something you wouldn't normally like give it a shot. This approach definitely paid off and the combination of flavours and textures for every course was just immense. I would love to go again.

We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Rafters. We had the four-course tasting menu and everything was delicious. Great wine selection. The staff were excellent and obviously work hard to create a welcoming atmosphere whilst giving you plenty of information about the provenance of the food. I can't wait to go back!

The food in this restaurant is absolutely beautiful, flavoursome and well presented on plate. We had the taster menu on the kitchen table as a gift to celebrate several family birthdays. Although i personally am not keen on lots of flavours together i could not fault the staff's knowledge and attention to detail for the food they were serving. However, it was was an expensive experience but worth it for special occasions. The facilities were clean and the whole building was obviously looked after. Be aware of very steep dark stairs to dining area. This was my only fault. Well done to a team who loved what they do and took great pride in doing it.

We visited twice a few years ago and had the tasting menu and wine flight. I think the menu has changed these days but from what I’ve heard the quality has not. Expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. This is one of those times. Every plate brought to us looked stunning and tasted even better. Whipped goats cheese, pea risotto, halibut, scallops, duck, chocolate torte... all incredible. From the delicate little canapés to the coffee and chocolates, it was all spot on. You haven’t really tasted food until you’ve been to a place like this. Staff were great, very knowledgeable and couldn’t have been more helpful. We were there for 4 hours each time. We didn’t leave bursting full, but satisfied that what we’d experienced was probably the best restaurant in Sheffield.

Well....where does one start! Michelin says it all! Also I like the very human waiters who give the place a touch of real-ness. All round top notch! Only thing I would perhaps say is space wise it's small. Cozy :)

Very good service, they really make it feel like a top class experience. The food was so tasty and such attention to detail. Steep stairs up, hence the name but not good for mobility issues. No parking but you should be able to fit on a street not too far away.

We have been to rafters a few times now, every time it's been amazing, but the most recent was well and truly fantastic! The food was our of this world the service was second to none. I truly feel like they are pushing for a Michelin star....and I would would not be surprised if they get it! Honestly, I would visit every month if I could purely for the treacle bread and Hendos butter!! We can't wait to schedule In another visit!

Amazing evening. I had the vegetarian kitchen bench menu, the menu had so much thought go into it and was incredibly inventive which is very refreshing as a lot of vegetarian menus are a last thought. The staff were amazing and very attentive. Everything I ate was incredible and I can't stop thinking about the cauliflower cheese...

Rafters is quite simply the best restaurant in Sheffield. We've been going for a fair few years and the staff's ongoing commitment to innovating the tasting menu is just incredible. This time we did the kitchen bench taster which is well worth the additional expense. The wine flight was perfectly paired and the staff's knowledge of every aspect of the meal is second to none.

I can not recommend this place highly enough the food and the service is outstanding. Well done and keep up the fantastic work.

We visited here for a Birthday celebration a few weeks back, everything was amazing but we can only give 4 stars due to an undercooked scallop on my girlfriends plate, a shame and these things happen but probably shouldn't for the price we paid. We would consider going back as the staff were really friendly and everything else was lovely.

Decadent plating, amazing tastes and combinations of flavours, atmosphere that was peak fine dining. Great selection of wine, home brew beer and local vodka. Truly an amazing spectacle of an evening. Deserving of a Michelin star.

Been here many times and not once have we ever been disappointed. Never been a single course we've not really enjoyed. Food is beyond belief, drinks superb and the staff are the best there is, friendly, helpful and genuinely enthusiastic. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Cannot fault anything at all of our dining experience at Rafters. The unassuming entrance and restaurant front doesn't match the relaxed and elegant decor that awaits you at the top of the stairs. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and taken straight to our table. The food and drinks menus were explained to us, as well as how the evening would unfold. The personalised menu was a nice touch. Each course presented to was very well prepared and presented. We were given a brief description of each course. The food itself was faultless in every aspect. A great variety of flavours and textures. All very creative. No its not cheap by Joe average standards but, for that special occasion and if its just the once you ever visit I'm sure it'll be an experience you'll remember and talk about for years to come.

The prices are appropriate for the standard of fare that is to be expected here, and the experience makes it totally worth it. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, the decor is chic, and the ambience as cosy and intimate.

Going to Rafters is a fantastic experience. Some of the food is so good you can't help smiling. There's such a care and attention, eg to whatever weird dietary requirements you have (like our party!). The atmosphere is pleasantly relaxed, not at all stuffy and formal. We liked it so much the first time that we're now making plans to go every few months.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled around the world and tried some tasty meals but this restaurant represents the best of Britain. The service was great, it didn’t feel pretentious even though it could have. Touché! Will be back ❤️

We had the most incredible meal here a couple of weeks ago with my husband and a friend. Every course was perfect and it was some of the tastiest food I've eaten. As a veggie my food was every bit as well thought out and beautifully created as the meat dishes eaten by the rest of my party. Really recommend the wine pairings. Absolutely delicious wines and the sommelier was so passionate and knowledgeable it really added to our evening. All the staff were brilliant and we had the most fun and relaxing evening due to the atmosphere and vibe of the restaurant. Thank you Rafters.

Attended for a friend's birthday, and the food was stunning and so tasty, with service so friendly! I informed of my allergies beforehand, and they accommodated them so well by tailoring each course accordingly. So much so that when each course arrived at the table, you couldn't tell that I was getting something slightly different. It made the experience so much more as it felt I was experiencing the same as everyone else.

We waited many years for a suitable occasion to celebrate here and weren't disappointed. Everything was handled and presented in the most lovely way. The food was a splendid range of tastes and flavours, spread over a very relaxing two hours with a selection of drinks available to complement it. The gluten free options were not a poor substitute but were a high standard themselves.

Amazing experience. We had their 7 course tasting menu plus the wine pairing, the food was spot on (I'm getting hungry thinking about it!) and the service was excellent, we loved the way they explained the courses.

I agree with a previous poster when they described it as an intimate hideaway, and the focus is most definitely on the high quality of their food. Cooked to perfection, everything on the menu seemed both exquisite and imaginative. Who would have thought that lychee would partner with curry quite so well?

A great experience for lunch today in a quite unexpected place. We missed the restaurant altogether, driving past it despite the Satnav saying we’d arrived! What a miss that would have been! Notoriously picky, the first courses (snacks) of the four course menu were changed for me with absolutely no fuss (Amazing) and the following courses were excellent! One of the best lunches to date. Thank you in particular to our waiter - sorry didn’t ask your name - for making our experience so enjoyable. Great place, fab food - thanks a lot!

We've been to Rafters quite a lot and have always enjoyed the experience. It's great for a special occasion and the food is always of top quality and very original with fabulous ingredients. This time was no exception, perfect food and service despite the obvious issues facing all restaurant just now.

Fabulous food, lovely ambience

I was treated to a meal in Rafters as a reward and it definitely felt like one. We went for the 3 course tasting menu, including an array of pre-starters and a pallette cleanser before dessert. Everything that came to our table was amazing. Looking and tasting divine. Unfortunately some of the descriptions were too fast/complicated for our ears, but nonetheless we were able to feel (and taste) the difference. The tasting experience lasted for about 3 hours, which, combined with half a bottle of wine resulted in me being seriously full, despite the relatively small portions. My favourite dishes were the cheese tart, tartar roll, quail's egg (all the aforementioned came as part of the standard pre-starter set), celeriac starter and the white chocolate cheesecake (although every dish was exquisitely presented and very tasty, with layers of flavour). Given the chance (and the budget), definitely would love to go back!

Me and my partner came for the first time, to celebrate our being together two years.... it was the best experience I've ever had, the food was absolutely amazing and the staff were so friendly and attentive.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The service was attentive without being overbearing. The food was an real treat. I have been around for 56 years and this is best meal out I ever remember and I can't see how it can be beaten. Definitely one to repeat.

Stunning food without a pretentious atmosphere. We went for the taster menu and it was lovely, the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, it feels upmarket but not judgemental. They often have midweek deals on so you can experience high level dining at an affordable cost. The wine pairing was brilliant with each new wine being given just enough of a story to enhance the experience but not so much it became tedious. The cocktail bar they own nearby is worth checking out as well.
