Totally surprised we have not rated this restaurant before as we have been several times. Madge says it is her favourite local Indian. Traditional place with a huge selection of dishes to chose from. Really enjoyed them all on each visit but maybe a little out of touch with the Street Food craze. Cobra in bottles. Good value.

VERY GOOD. Great food, decent prices. I had a lamb biryani which was succulent and not dry. Would recommend.

A busy restaurant in the heart of Crookes. The food is well presented & delicious. The staff are accommodating, pleasant, friendly, helpful & very attentive.

Had been wanting to try here for a while and last night was our first visit but it will be our only visit. Booked a table ahead but it wasn't busy at all and could have just walked in off the street. Decor could do with an update, felt a little tired inside. No hand soap in the ladies toilet but hand sanitiser was available. Quite a few members of staff to help. Ordered drinks and food which arrived quickly. Poppadoms were OK, pickle tray OK, bhajis were very oily and the main disappointing. I couldn't find Chicken Tikka Balti on the menu at the time of ordering but was assured it was available by the waiter, so we ordered it but what arrived wasn't Chicken Tikka, more like tiny cubes of chicken in a tasteless sauce. Rice was clumpy. Garlic Nan was the best bit but at £3.50, quite expensive! We won't be revisiting.

Another great night out at Zaras. The chicken chaat starter, madras hot was amazing and the Murgh Kali Mirch was as good as ever. Rice was nice and fluffy and the naan was good too.

I could say it’s been the worst starters I had in whole UK . I have ordered chicken tikka, lamb tikka both were worst and seekh kebab was good and then kashmiri naans with hyderbadi gosht curry this was ok ok then chicken biryani was below average. Better go for any other if you want to have proper indian food

The food is consistently good here. If we want Indian food, Zara's is our go to. Their delivery service is also good! Reasonably priced and decent portion sizes. The pickle tray with the different chutneys with the poppadoms are great, nice to try different ones to the standard ones. The service can feel a little chaotic at times but that's not really a problem.

Such a shame after visiting 6 weeks running spending £50 a time we had a bad starter with 2 x Prawn Purees were both curdled and tasteless. As what I thought was a valued customer offering constructive criticism I left 3 messages for them and no response at all not to apologise or maybe offer to put things right. I am not a serial complainer but in this day and age felt they needed to know and to not acknowledge or respond is very poor despite it showing the messages had been read!!! Such a shame but decided now to try elsewhere. I am a stickler for Customer Service.

Have to say the service quality has dropped massively since previous trips here. Felt very rushed when taking our order and was expected to order everything at once despite being one of the last bookings. Service was very slow and it took a long time for drinks, starters, and mains to eventually be served. Poppadoms were stale. The main dish was decent though. This was a favourite local spot but don't think I'd be returning unfortunately.

Excellent service by knowledgeable waiters and fantastic food. Have been a few times and always been brilliant. There are many Indian restaurants closer to me but always go here for the best experience and taste available for miles

I had a family meal out at Zaras, and I have to say, everyone was talking about one thing. ONE THING ONLY! Zaras pickle tray, it will take your breath away. Every night my dreams are haunted with unreachable pickle trays, each one further away than the last. 10/10 Nice Staff and Food Was Scrumptious!

I went with a party for a birthday meal after seeing this place was voted the best restaurant in Sheffield. The food was bland, cold and terrible. There was no flavour in any of the starters and dishes. After ordering 5 different currys, which none had any spice or taste. And for the price, this is definitely not worth the money. The atmosphere was terrible with S Club Seven music playing throughout the night... This restaurant, for anyone who eats at Indian restaurant regularly or has any taste buds, is not worth going too.

Restaurant very tired and in need of a paint and good clean. Over priced drinks £5.90 bottle of Cobra. Chicken tikka didn't look or taste like anything I have had in the last 20 years in an indian restaurant. Waiter was rude, the Manager was professional and helpful. Won't be going back.

Tiny bits of cubes chicken and lamb...why... all I can describe it is .. that advert for caesar..dog food ...as the lamb and chicken may have been a health and safety issue....all u needed was a little white dog....but in there defence...it tasted good ..but why granny approved bite size chunks....if u go for a curry and the meat is cubed like a caesar advert....why.... and the staff were lovely and the night was as well....so why the chicken and lamb... granny food.. got a be a reason ...I could have had my first curry through a straw....

We have been for a meal tonight and the food was fantastic. The staff were freindly and helpful. The social distancing measures worked really well. It was our first child free night since February and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. Highly recommend!

Ordered food on New Years Eve which we expected to take a while for the delivery but we waited nearly 3 hours for our delivery which never turned up forcing us to cancel the order. Rang up twice and was told the order was on the way both times and was a blatant lie and was laugh at down the phone for ringing up too soon. So disappointed with the order as we had heard good things about the business but it obvious they are incapable for dealing with deliveries efficiently. I wouldn’t expect anyone to wait that long for food no matter the occasion. Will be sticking to Akbars or Balti-King in the future.

Went there on a whim and was the best descision we made Took my sister and her small family, the staff very accommodating, welcoming out 8 month old They sat us at a table at the back making sure we could get the pram in Waiter was attentive every step of the way, excellent banter Had a few large beers to start, good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks We started with poppadoms and pickle tray, I have never seen such a good selection of pickles! Would have again. Of note the waiter kept discreetly checking on us and as soon as we had done ge must have been co..uncaring with the kitchen as once the starters were finished the mains were less than 5 minutes later presented All curries we ordered were delicious, each spiced excellent, meat and fish cooked to perfection We had prawn bhuna, lamb ghost and chicken Afghani, would happily reorder all of them again Looking at the menu though there was so much choice and combinations available, I can't wait to go again to try some more Good portion sizes of curries and priced reasonably Overall an excellent option

Absolutely awful worst Indian takeaway I've ever had. Korma was bitty and tasteless, I'veI've never had a lumpy and bitty sauce from any other takeaways. The chips where soggy and the onion bhaji didn't taste much either. If your looking for a good Indian i suggest Rajput or the new taj mahal.

Used to be a great place, recently seems to have gone downhill. Poor service and poor food quality on the last two orders, a real shame.

  • 1/5 Jeane G. 4 years ago on Google
As noted here before the customer services is a nightmare and the food is ordinary and very pricey. As almost all "Indian restaurants" in the UK, this one is also Pakistani, not Indian. Different spice pallet. I ordered the mushroom dish, i got 1.5 mushroom and a lot of other vegetables. It didn't taste very good. I complained and the owner said "I'll tell the chef." That was it about my non-mushroom dish. I got a bill of 30 pounds for 2 people!!! I asked to get 3 boxes for the leftover, I got one. I asked the owner he said don't worry we didn't take your left over for ourselves. Seriously??? I wanted to know why the hell you mixed the left overs from 2 different people. "All my customer never complained" he said. I told him that i don't like to taste the saliva of other people in my food "fine fine fine" he said and showed me to the door. What an expensive nightmare.

Zara's Indian Restaurant. Have to be totally honest this is my favourite Indian restaurant, my friends and I always have our "Indian Food Fix" at Zara's. However at this unfortunate time, restaurants are closed, so the option available to us is takeaway. The food at Zara's is always good, but what would their takeaway be like? Takeaways are something we just don't eat, but this is Zara's right? We checked out the takeaway menu and ordered Popadoms with pickles/chutney's, Boiled Rice, and sides of Niramish, Saag Paneer, Dal Maknj and a Roti. I was offered a delivery service and I opted to collect. We agreed a time for collection and upon opening the door of Zara's I was greeted with a huge smile and a warm welcome. There was 2 members of staff that I could see, in uniform offering their exceptional professional service. It felt like it was below zero outside and they invited me to sit in the warm near a heater. The food was ready at the agreed time. There was more than enough for the 4 of us. It was piping hot, fresh and everything was wrapped and labelled individually. We were not disappointed, it was just as aromatic, fresh and delicious as being in their restaurant I couldn't recommend them enough to you, and we will hopefully having another takeaway soon.

Went as daughter's choice for 13th birthday meal and the food and service was outstanding. All four of us had a variety of different meals, sauce based and grill, and all served together. The food was amazing and all four of us enjoyed theour and meal and the amount was more than enough even for a bigger appetite. The service was beyond expectations as they had even surprised us with a birthday cake for my daughter, what a lovely touch to add. Would highly recommend to anyone and we will definitely be returning.

We have used this restaurant for the last 5 years for our take away and went in many times as well. However last night (Saturday) they have just lost us. We ordered food over the phone to be told delivery would be 1h to 1h20. After 1h30 rang back to be told they'd forgot to send it to the kitchen and that it would be 20min before they got it to us. It took another 35min and another phone call to get it delivered. Such a shame about the service as the food has always be good (especially last night, really fresh) but I think we will try somewhere else next time for our takeaway.

I’m sorry to say despite their great food their customer service is terrible. I called to order naan breads and onion bhaji. Was told 30 minutes, which was too long for us. It usually takes 10-15 mins. I politely told the guy to cancel the order as that’s was too long and he slammed the phone down on me. I won’t use them again. There are two other Indian restaurants in the area who are more polite to their customers.

It's our local Indian so we love it anyway, but just wanted to say thanks for making a 40th birthday celebration extra special, not only really excellent food as always and fab service, the cake and happy birthday chorus was brilliant. Zara is the best.

I had been to this restaurant today and am very sorry to say I was shocked with the rudeness and arrogance of the restaurants staff. There was no greeting or smile ,instead staff made personal comments and mocked. Very low customer service to a customer who has more than once visited the restaurant . Also once you place an order it takes very long time for the food to be served. Will not visit this restaurant again
