Not sure what the fuss is about this place. The food is okay. I ordered the spicy chicken dish and expected it to be spicy. It wasn’t. Asked for spicy/chili oil. They said it’ll be another 3$. That wasn’t spicy either. The dumplings came out dry instead of streamed. Pork noodle was the best. It had unique flavors. The vibe is nice. Not much of a wait for Sunday night dinner.

Real authentic Sichuan style food. Real gem of Portland for real. As a Korean and an East Asian, was glad to taste here.

Such a great experience! I came on my birthday, solo and without reservations, yet they sat me quickly and everyone was so kind on a busy Friday night. I had hot sake, Zhong dumplings and Mapo Tofu -- and I can't fully describe how wonderful all the authentic flavors were -- SO GOOD. This is now one of my favorite neighborhood places. I'll definitely be back! :-)

Zhong dumplings were the best — the chili sauce was amazing with notes of spice and sweetness. My friends and I ended up buying 1/2 pint of sauce each to take home.

A pleasant surprise to find such an authentic Sichuan restaurant in Maine! First, you can tell the authenticity from the zhong’s dumpling the chef made. It’s rather a dumpling shape, slightly thick wrap with a juicy filling and the sweet and spicy sauce underneath (most Sichuan or “Chinese” restaurants in the US gets it wrong) Second, you can really taste the wok hay, fermented soy bean flavor, and slightly charred fatty flavor in the double cooked pork. Unfortunately I wouldn’t call this double cooked pork but rather fried pork (xiao chao rou) since they did not used the red fermented bean sauce (pi county’s fermented bean sauce) and no leek was included. Third, the mapo tofu is pretty top notch with strong numbing and spicy flavors but what tofu was underseasoned (again most sichuan or “Chinese” restaurant gets it wrong, it’s a technique they have to learn formally) Last but not least, really appreciated the balanced flavor combination in ants climbing a tree! Overall definitely do not miss while at Portland Maine, better than getting disappointed by the mediocre seafood restaurants.

Definitely a couple of steps above here. Zhong dumplings and Spicy Soup were uniquely flavorful and well presented. Will certainly be returning to try more of the menu!

The zhong dumplings come with an amazing sauce I have never tasted anywhere else, and the soup dumplings are probably the best I’ve had. Nothing on the menu disappointed

Food was really authentic, especially the sweet noodles just like how it was in Sichuan. The other two was good too but just way too greasy to our preference. The service is just okay- consider this is a kinda nicer Chinese restaurant.

Sichuan Kitchen has been a long time favorite spot of mine! I’ve been stopping by regularly sense 2019 and I can vouch for their delicious consistency. It’s located right on Congress Street in Portland. Paid parking. My favorites to get are the egg fried rice and spicy dumplings!🍚🥟 They give you a giant bowl of rice, always enough to share with a friend!

Cute little dining room. Started with the daikon salad, which is sour and sweet and crunchy. Mapo tofu and dry fried chicken was delicious and perfectly spiced. Need to try everything else on the menu.

This place is exceptional. This food is amazing, get anything on the menu you can’t go wrong. I’m a big fan of the hot and sour shredded potatoes and the eggplant dish. Be prepared to wait as this place has grown in popularity, but it’s well worth it. I’m so happy we have this place in Portland, 10/10.

Dumplings and green beans were wonderful. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that the tofu with leeks was a bit bland… nothing a little chili oil can’t fix, but still disappointing.

WOWWWW!! This was one of the best all-around meals I’ve had dining at a restaurant. We ordered the daikon salad, mapo tofu (vegan), and tofu skin with Sichuan pickled chilies — all the dishes were so flavorful and perfectly prepared. The salad had a pleasant numbing spice, the tofu skin was silky and savory with lovely bursts of pickled chili, and the mapo tofu was so rich and luxurious. I cannot wait to come back and try more menu items.

You won't find a restaurant here with a more Chinese taste than Sichuan. If you like the salty and spicy taste as much as I do, don't miss poached beef。I love this dish like crazy. This is the taste of China that I miss.

Superb Chinese food, some of the best we’ve ever had. Cool atmosphere and very vegan friendly too (they have a separate vegan menu). We ordered the hot and sour potatoes, vegan ants marching up a tree, and the double cooked tofu. So hard to pick a favorite between these three standout dishes. Definitely go to this place.

Still one of the best around for Chinese style cuisine. This is not americanized Chinese food. The food is all excellently prepared and tasty. We went a bit wild since it had been awhile since our last visit. While an expensive date night it was so satisfying. If you are used to Americanized Chinese food ask questions. But i know you can't go wrong with the offerings here.

I’ve eaten here so many times since moving to Portland! Way better than Empire in my book! I’ve only eaten inside once due to COVID, but both the dine-in and takeout service was/are fantastic. This place is definitely worth looking into for your next meal.

I liked my meal a lot and the decor of the restaurant is very classy. The fish dish I had was very tasty and spicy. The after taste of the spice was great and had a unique peppercorn flavor. This place is very nice and I'd happily go again.

First time visiting this restaurant. The food was excellent, I highly recommend the dumplings. Will definitely revisit in the future.

FOOD WAS AMAZING, DELICIOUS & filled with loads of taste! This place is a MUST TRY! Service was good too. Small spot so during the tourist season make a reservation. The veggie hot pot is spicy but sooooo good. The beef with noodle soup dish has the most tender beef ever. Treat yourself & stop by for dinner or order take out.

Absolutely LOVE coming here and I crave it everyday. My favorite dumplings, pork belly, and cucumbers ever. The dishes are to die for and the owner is the sweetest person you’ll meet, always accommodating and friendly. Love love love it.

Very good service (Hunter). Very knowledgeable about the menu. Quaint little place. Braised beef and noodles was my choice for this meal. It was toned down for this novice and was still hot but very good.
