What an amazing medieval castle, it’s very well kept, it’s been restored and renovated. It’s in very good condition and it’s definitely very fascinating. Very educational and interesting, it has a museum located inside. It has an armoury and several statues and artifacts in and around the ground as well as a lovely bridge close by. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

We only went in the Museum because we thought we could only access the Castelvecchio bridge from there. Little did we know the bridge is readily accessible from outside. The Museum was ok but it wasn't great, lots of paintings and religious figures. What I liked is it gave us access to some areas of the castle where we wouldn't have gone if we hadn't got the ticket. The ticket itself didn't cost that much and the museum wasn't crowded so I'd say its worth visiting still.

Great museum in Verona especially if you are looking for something less crowded than the Arena or Juliet's house. The museum has a good collection of medieval art starting from the 14th century. As you go around the castle you also get great views over the bridge. The setup could be slightly improved in order to make it more fun and interactive.

A brilliant display of artists that worked in Verona.Italy sets such a high standard of heritage curatorship but I did wonder if the strong sunlight entering the ground floor could be calibrated. The internal lighting was not at all needed. I'm sure the sculptures would not come to any harm, they've survived at least half a millennium. Overall, a well organized route which included stunning views from the battlements.

Remarkably well-restored castle in the heart of Verona. Most of the rooms are filled with religious artifacts and paintings. The self guided tour of the museum takes you throughout the castle and up on the parapets. My only wish is that it had air conditioning -- something that will only be more needed as global temperatures rise.

Castlevecchio is stunning and worth a visit. However if you are not interested in medieval art would not recommend the museum. 6euro entry to the museum part. Quite sparsely populated with art. Viewing points of the castle were closed though not notified of this until at the point. Some staff quite rude.

Loads and loads of arts and sculptures of a lot of famous / amateur artists. It was very interesting but the focus could be kept only for the first 20-30 mins. After few rooms the interest starts to dip a bit. Maybe please do this visit with a guided tour. In order to finish the complete museum it will probably take almost three to four hours. We skipped almost 40% of the museum (saw all the important art pieces), still it took two hours for us.

Sehr schön. Tolle Burg!

The Castelvecchio was built in 1376 by Cangrande II della Scala, nicknamed Can Rabbioso (Mad Dog). Mad Dog ruled Verona with an iron fist (iron paw?), amassing rich treasures for his illegitimate sons and impoverishing the city. This caused internal strife which led the paranoid Cangrande to surround himself with Brandenburg mercenaries. This did not prevent him being assassinated by his brother Cansignorio (perhaps his nickname was Madder Dog).

This place provides a good overview of medieval architecture combined with a good collection of religious paintings from different eras. Also you get fantastic Verona views from the castle walls.

Really amazing museum with art from the Middle Ages up to the Renaissance. This once palace, fortress, church and community once was residence for Napoleon. Very affordable tickets at €6 per adult - no headsets were available but description cards in each room. Keep your ticket handy as you walk through you’ll need to show it upstairs at the highly valuable art level. Incredible views of the Adige River and you can tell why it was so strategic. Bridge is phenomenal to photograph too from the upper level.

What an amazing place! An unexpected gem of Verona. Entry was 6€ and 4.50€ for over 60s. A castle and fascinating museum all in one. Incredible views from the top walkways all brick and stone built. Many rooms of original religious artwork of exceptional quality. Original Roman friezes and original wall decoration. Very good value and friendly English speaking staff. A must see in Verona and great place to visit.

The museum inside Castelvecchio is very much worth a visit. The intervention done by Carlo Scarpa for improving the museum’s visit and experience is impressive. It is a master example of his intention to increasing the visitor’s interaction with the artworks by desgning freestanding structures carrying the works. He aimed this way at engaging the people with the building. I could keep talking about it but I won’t ;) You’ll see it yourself when visiting it.

Lots to see, impressive paintings and sculptures. I'm taking a star off as it is like a maze, lots of routes end with dead end. Lots of groups there on tours, blocking paths, doors, I couldn't see glass doors to exit when I tried to leave! A large group stood in front of them, no signage pointing the way. Ticket cost reasonable, you should go early in morning to avoid crowds. Great views from walls.

I’ve never seen paintings and sculptures like the ones here. Most if not all are Christian. The castle itself is interesting enough to visit! 6 euro per person, 1.5 hours enough to see everything. There’s only one WC in the whole place so go for it if you don’t see any long line.

This ‘Old Castle’ is a must see in Verona! Built along the Adige river and the Castelvecchio bridge extending from there across the river, great history behind it. There is lots to see inside this museum and the Verona card gets you free entrance. The place is pretty compact but you should plan on spending at least a couple of hours, perhaps more if you want to leisurely go through the numerous displays of art. Amazing views of the river, bridges etc., once you get up to the top of the castle.

Bit hot inside but really beautiful art, especially for religious minded people. Restoration works are to be applauded. Climb the short flight of stairs up to the battlements if you're there. The only toilet is directly after the entrance, and it's strictly one-way traffic, so plan ahead.

Amazing collection, I wasn't expecting this quality of artworks. Also the modifications made by italian genious Carlo Scarpa that merge with the museography make of the place a daydream while they raise the curation of the whole collection. A plethora of museographic and architectural details. Amazing

Interesting route from a historical point of view. There are so many works on display, it's a shame to have given so much, perhaps too much, attention to the liturgical theme, neglecting that of the history of the caste.

Such a wonderful building. It cost €6 per person I believe. They had cheaper prices for children. The castle is impressive in scale and the artwork within is astounding. If you do have children with you, if you walk over the bridge crossing, you can visit a small play area and a very shallow water feature. It is clean, well maintained and close to the Arena. Highly recommended for everyone to visit.

Even though there are richer museums, it's amazing having the opportunity to be in a castle with this history. Built between 1354 and 1376, it was once an important military construction. Now it houses a museum and the history goes on. Culture always rules.

The castle is large and you can walk into the gardens and around some parts fo free however the museum you must pay for but its included in the Verona Pass. Museum offers an art collection and a archeological section. It also includes entrance to walk up the bell tower and castle walls which has great views of the city. For me, not many things to see in here. However, it is nice to know of a castle with quite creative architecture. I like the way the castle is structured and also the view of the river. The museum has a good audio guide (it's a pen to point into any object) but it doesn't cover all things inside. When I was here, there is a Dante Inferno exhibition, which is quite cool!

I liked the bridge, althought it was historically a military fortress, it's a very nice touristic place in Verona. The bridge has many "windows" on its sides from where you can see the a beautiful river view. Just by the side of the bridge there is a small stoney cost where you can sit and enjoy the sounds of the flowing water of the river.

We asked at the desk if the descriptions were in English, and he said yes. Virtually none of them were. The most they had was a title. There was so much art of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints that we literally stopped looking at any of it. It was boring. The weapons display was tiny and devoid of any descriptions. The castle walkways were like a maze, and you got lost at dead ends and were forced to retrace your steps. It was boring except one smiling green (attached) from the 1400s. :)

Ok for a visit if you are in Verona. Solid collection specialy if you are a fan of galleries and pictures. Nice views open from the castle.

The castle itself is very interesting to see, however I think the museum is only a good deal if you have the Verona Card and plenty of time to spend in Verona. I rushed through the museum just to see the castle from the inside. There are sculptures and artwork presented on display. You can catch some nice views of the Adige River and the Ponte Scaligere (Ponte di Castelvecchio) from the windows.

Interesting architecture, fusion of old and new through the ingenious work of Scarpa, showcasing the local history of Verona's 'big dog' Cangrande. Some areas with great views of the bridge and river.

It was a beautiful city, but didn't get to see inside the coliseum as it closed at 2pm maybe because it was a public holiday, but will definitely go back
