Burgers'
Zoo
was
opened
in
1913
and
is
located
in
the
city
of
Arnhem
in
the
province
of
Gelderland.
An
interesting
fact
is
that
the
first
location
of
the
park
was
the
city
of
's-Heerenberg
in
Gelderland
(near
the
German
Emmerich),
where
on
March
31,
1913,
Johan
Burgers
opened
his
private
collection
of
animals
to
the
public.
Ten
years
later,
however,
it
was
decided
to
move
the
facility
to
the
more
accessible
Arnhem.
The
park
is
inhabited
primarily
by
exotic
animals
such
as
elephants,
flamingos,
lions
and
meerkats.
The
zoo
aims
to
familiarize
viewers
with
the
life
of
wild
animals
from
distant
countries
and
continents.
One
of
the
interesting
ideas
of
this
zoo
is
the
so-called
ecodisplay,
which
consists
in
providing
animals
with
the
possible
natural
conditions
of
the
ecosystem,
so
that
fauna
and
flora
interact
with
each
other,
as
if
in
conditions
consistent
with
the
laws
of
nature.
The
zoo
consists
of
several
thematic
sections.
Burgers'
Safari
allows
you
to
walk
through
the
African
savannah,
where
you
can
come
across
herds
of
wildebeest,
zebras
and
giraffes.
It
used
to
be
one
of
the
first
places
where
the
whole
lion's
family
lived
without
a
fence
-
the
animals
could
be
admired
from
a
special
terrace.
Burgers'
Bush
is
a
recreated
tropical
rainforest
in
which
visitors
are
free
to
stroll.
The
zoo
also
offers
tropical
mangroves
called
Burgers'
Mangrove,
which
are
a
typical
plant
formation
for
the
tropics.
Burgers'
Desert
was
opened
in
1994
and
gives
adults
and
children
the
opportunity
to
experience
life
in
the
desert.
This
is
one
of
the
biggest
attractions
of
the
park.
It
can
be
accessed
via
a
tunnel
from
Bugers'
Bush.
Burgers'
Rimba
is
a
good
opportunity
to
meet
python,
tiger
and
Malaysian
monkeys.
Burgers'
Ocean
is
an
impressive
aquarium.
In
8
million
liters
of
water
in
a
giant
aquarium,
you
can
admire
exotic
species
of
fish,
interesting
aquatic
vegetation,
and
coral
reefs...
