What's not to love about quality history. Good size car park. Ruins are fully accessible and a joy to stroll around. The gift shop and museum are both well stocked and staff are great. Is good value for money

One of the best places bearing witnesses to the English history and heritage. Entrance ticket is around £12 per person. But it is worth every penny. Ample parking and parking is free of charge during winter till 1st of March. There is a museum, tea room and a souvenir shop which could be accessed by the same entrance fee. You could easily spend the full day here. Whitby town is also a nice little town for a walk, shopping or even site seeing. Fish and chips in Whitby are amazing.

Lovely heritage site. Enjoyed the free audio tour at all the little spots, lots to listen to and enjoy as you wander around. For good photos, try to go early, I was one of the first in and it was very reverent. Quickly filled up by the time I left at 12pm. Museum does tend to go over same topics do no worries if you don't have the audio. Could do with more seats, particularly on a lovely day.

Great place to discover the history of not only the Abbey but of the historical figures who been here through out the ages including fictional figure Dracula. There is a great museum and gift shop and we were fortunate to arrive in time to view a display of hunting birds. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic, historic, atmospheric, and highly recommended. If you are put off by the hill get the Whitby Tour Bus which gives you great info on area and runs regularly with the usual hop on hop off set up. Abbey has good facilities shop, cafe, toilets etc. Not to be missed if in the area.

À lovely place, well worth a visit. The ruins are well maintained, certain areas are left uncut for the wild flowers. À well set out museum. The cafe looks pleasant but I didn't go in.

Love the Abbey with it's atmospheric arches and quirky history. Beware though, the car park is not English Heritage(and there are no signs to say) as we found out to our cost! We wrongly thought, belonging to EH that parking was free, but we got a parking fine and EH didn't care!

Had an awesome day and was one of the days the sun came out. We have been to Whitby a few times but never actually been into the Abbey. Such a lovely piece of history with some great views of Whitby so glad we decided to pay it a visit.

Fantastic day spent at the Abbey. Arrived on the open top Whitby tour bus. Weather was good for most of my visit. Well maintained ruins and grounds. The views are stunning. The actors who enacted the Dracula Experience were absolutely amazing and they included the children who were there. It was a day to remember. If you were healthy enough you could access the Abbey by the 199 steps at the side of St Mary's Church , you could drive or you could enjoy the hop on off bus like I did.

As a tourist location, this place is amazing. You are able to get up close to the Abbey itself and there are a lot of photo opportunities from many different angles. There is also a small museum which informs you of the history of the Abbey, along with a well stocked gift shop.

Not to be missed, surrounded in lore and mythology due to Bram Stoker’s Dracula! It stands on the hill overlooking Whitby and can be seen from miles around. An English Heritage site so you pay to get in, dogs are allowed on a lead, there is a museum, shop, cafe and toilets on site parking nearby on top of the hill or make the walk up the 199 steps from Whitby centre. Stunning views over the coast and Whitby. We were there during half term and there was an actor there as a monk doing a scene about the history of the abbey with visitor participation! I was hoping there was more ruins standing but wouldn’t have missed this visit.

Worth the long drive to visit and take in all the history! The town of Whitby is also worth exploring. There are many fish and chip shops around but plenty of other places to eat, dining in or taking away.

Love it here. We have family membership so don’t pay for entry and get 10% of shop purchases which is always good! Being able to bring our dogs along is what really makes it for me. A bit muddy on our visit today but then with all the rain we’ve had it’s hardly surprising. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The museum area has been done really nice and there’s some real interesting bits to look at.

Unexpected delight! Much grander than expected, showing just how magnificent this Abbey would have been in its heyday. There is also an interesting museum which sadly I didn’t have time to visit.

Would recommend a visit. Great piece of history and you able to get up close. Quite an exposed area so might want to wrap up warm and in waterproofs if the weather isn't good. Nice gift shop as well. Car park was free out of season as well which was a nice surprise!

What a fabulous place with full of history! You have to walk up the 199 steps (or the donkey path) and walk by St Mary’s Church to get to the entrance of the abbey. Totally worth the entrance fee to walk through the ground. It is breathtaking. Just outside the abbey wall is a footpath along the cliff. It’s an easy trail and it will take you all the way to Robin Hood’s Bay, 7 miles one way. We hiked a mile and saw fabulous cliff views.

The ruins of what would have been a beautiful building and also some inspiration to Bram Stoker for the incarnation of his most famous novel, really is a must see if you are in the area. Lovely grounds with a fantastic little museum at the end.

Unfortunately, the weather was bad, but the view was great and got plenty of pics. The museum was quite small but informative. If I wasn't an English heritage member, I'm not sure I would say there was value for money.

Beautiful historic area with old ruins of what is left of the Abbey. It would have been absolutely amazing to see it before the war destroyed large parts of it. Very misty and foggy in the day we went but it was still spectacular! Highly recommended!! Even had a bit of South African history attached to it!

We visited on a lovely sunny day and it was easy to see how majestic the old monastery must have been, so on a gloomy and stormy day this place must be so atmospheric. Seen from miles around, the classic way up is via the 199 steps from the old town below, passing St Mary's church (don't miss going in here, either!) English Heritage have plenty of excellent information in the adjoining museum as well as making the visitor experience of the Abbey itself well worth it. Stonking views over the town and river below from the top. Not to be missed.

This is a really nice walk to do during the day but there are many steps up to the top to reach the abbey. Didn't have to purchase tickets. it was free and there is also a museum to learn about local history and gift shop.

Very nice place, well kept and clean, a little hard to reach if walking, but can be driven up to, excellent walking around, has a small shop with various novelty items, £16 per person entry to the Abbey proper and the museum. Still made a nice day out.

We were lucky enough it was sunny most of the time! And so we were able to enjoy the place better and take great pictures. It was a day trip and I think that’s enough to tour around tourists spots. The place was popular with Black Jet ( I’ll be back to get one soonish). The place is also dog heaven 🦮!!!

It's the view from inside and far away outside are both equally outstanding. And being able to walk inside the tidied-up ruins is also a great feeling. Almost half of the walls don't exist anymore, still, you can have the feeling of how it was like a few hundred years ago being in it.

Beautifully old Abbey sat atop the main hill the the south of Whitby harbour. The abbey can be accessed by climbing the 199 steps and then paying a ridiculously expensive £11 admission fee per person. This is another national heritage site that manages to exclude the majority of people from seeing its sites with its overpriced entry fees. Wouldn’t recommend as there’s nothing insanely good that you can’t see from the outside, instead I would look around the church before reaching the Abbey and stopping for a drink at the brewery !

Excellent experience visiting Whitby Abbey. The visitors centre provided by English Heritage are first class. All part of the great day spent visiting the harbour and surrounding area.

We parked in the car park for a few nights. Which is really good of Whitby Abbey for doing this. So though it was only fair to go for a look around the Abbey. Also, I got some of their Gin from the shop.

Fantastic place to visit. The grounds and the abbey are wonderful to walk around, and the museum is very interesting. The staff are friendly and helpful, special thanks to Sally who pointed us in the direction of a stunning angle to photography the abbey from. Highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely stunning place to visit. Along with the surrounding area of Whitby it self. My only issue with the place is the pricing.. It cost us £17 each to visit. But if we were members of the National Heritage it would have only been £3 something each.
