The
Mihrimah
Sultan
Fountain,
also
known
as
the
Üsküdar
Mihrimah
Sultan
Fountain,
is
a
historical
fountain
located
in
the
Üsküdar
district
of
Istanbul,
Turkey.
Like
the
Mihrimah
Sultan
Mosque,
the
fountain
was
commissioned
by
Mihrimah
Sultan,
the
daughter
of
the
Ottoman
Sultan
Suleiman
the
Magnificent.
The
fountain
was
built
in
the
same
period
with
the
mosque
and
it
is
located
right
next
to
the
mosque.
The
fountain
is
an
important
example
of
Ottoman
architectural
and
engineering
history,
and
like
the
mosque,
it
was
designed
by
the
famous
Ottoman
architect
Mimar
Sinan.
The
fountain
is
a
multi-level
structure
made
of
stone
and
marble,
and
features
a
central
basin
and
several
smaller
basins
and
pools.
The
fountain
is
decorated
with
intricate
tilework
and
calligraphy
and
is
noted
for
its
unique
design
and
aesthetic
appeal.
It
is
also
a
social
and
cultural
center
during
the
Ottoman
Empire
time,
where
people
gather
to
drink
water,
have
a
rest
and
chit-chat.
Also,
it
served
as
a
public
bath
as
well.
Now,
it
is
an
attractive
place
for
visitors
who
visit
Üsküdar
and
Mihrimah
Sultan
Mosque.
It
is
an
important
part
of
the
Mihrimah
Sultan
complex
and
considered
as
an
architectural
and
cultural
heritage.
Unfortunately,
it
is
not
functional
as
a
fountain
nowadays
and
it
is
not
allowed
to
drink
water
from
it.
But
visitors
still
can
enjoy
the
beauty
and
the
history
of
the
fountain.
