The staff was excellent. However the public areas of the facility are dark, run down, and dirty. The main lobby is painted dark colors with shoddy repairs to the drywall. Lighting is poor and no effort has been made to improve the situation. My trip to post op was in a dirty staff elevator, the post op room as bad as the main lobby. The surgical waiting room was more of the same with multiple stains on the carpet. Although the staff was great and the OR itself appeared to be in good condition the condition of the public areas added greatly to my anxiety about my upcoming surgery. Where else are corners being cut? The attached photos are of the OR waiting room. The best of the rooms mentioned. Stains on carpet are visible if you zoom

Let me give a quick list of my experience having a major surgery at your hospital: Woke up from surgery to people trying to make a plan to remove something left inside another patient, when brought to my room no one would help me with pain control for 6 hours, I was given a roommate that screamed, tried to pull out every line in her body (including the cath), tried to fly off the bed, had to be held down by the arms by a tech, with restraints on the table, unused. Over a dozen needle sticks trying to find an IV, on 2 occasions. Not 12 total, about 12 each, before I got the vascular team to use the IV to give me a line. Which lasted less than a day because the nurse would not listen to me to run the potassium slow to avoid blowing it. Needless to say she blew the IV within 2 hours. My surgeon screamed at my nurse and everyone else because I was sick (and vomiting for days everything I tried to drink) and having trouble taking pills. He forced me out before I could eat because he had weekend plans. This is without mentioning the condition of the bathrooms in patient rooms. There's some backup and the smell in the morning made me vomit. So if you want a smooth surgery I'd avoid Lovelace, at least the one downtown. The only good part was one nurse who I was lucky enough to have 2 nights in a row and the OT woman who's happiness and spirit was contagious.

Lovelace was not my hospital but the University Hospital was admitting only infants and babies, so I was sent to Lovelace instead. I was admitted for pneumonia and another life-threatening infectious disease. I spent 2 days in ER before being transferred to ICU for several more days, and finally to another room. The staff at Lovelace was courteous, helpful, and professional throughout my stay, although they had more than enough patients in this pandemic experience in our country. In addition to their normal duties as nurses, they emptied bedpans and urinals and assisted me in my needs. They explained questions in a professional and comprehensible way. In my stay I learned of a whole new dimension of nursing: traveling nurses. I am very grateful for their contribution to the Lovelace staff in dealing with the horrifying medical problems we face everywhere an I salute them. My doctors met with me every day to discuss my case, especially the newer attempt at removing mucus from my lung and the area next to the lung. My primary care doctor brought in the Infectious Illness Unit to monitor progress with the new treatment. The hospital fed me delicious meals which helped me to quickly regain most of my lost weight. My overall evaluation of Lovelace is extremely high. I had considered using their services and I may very likely switch my healthcare to their site.

I recently had an MRI and received very good instructions. Technicians were caring, made sure I was comfortable, could hear and understand the procedure. My first visit to Lovelace main hospital as mostly go to Lovelace Women's. All experiences have received friendly, caring and excellent care. Thanks to all health care workers connected to Lovelace.

What an awful experience for my poor mother. She has been in this hospital for nearly three weeks. The whole time has been a huge cluster. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. No β€œhospital” nursing staff, all contract. Not the nurses fault at all, but these hospitals upper echelon who refuse to offer their people respect, both through salary compensation and dignity. Eighty percent of the time, doctors and staff have no idea what is going on with their patients. Much needed Medication being removed from their charts, uncoordinated and incompetent case workers, and scary as hell treatment towards patients. Never never again. If you have a loved one, steer clear of this place!

My mother in law was cared for on the fifth floor for almost a week. I was very impressed as they were careful to diagnose and understand clearly what was going on with her. It seemed like the process was taking way too long, however, they needed the time to understand. And although my mother in law didn't make it, she was treated exceptionally well. She was very ill and fragile, and I am grateful for the doctors and nurses caring and careful approach. Thank you all so much for balancing risk vs benefit in a complex situation.

Great hospital. I had children with me and needed something to do because children we not allowed in. There is a park right behind the school and parking buildings just around the block and I wanted to let people know because it is definitely a sight to see. It’s a beautiful park.

They were very accommodating for our 2 year old when we brought him in for surgery. They let him decorate his mask that they used to put him under, had me there when he woke up instead of waiting until after and even put a mask and hair net on his little bear stuffed animal. Plus they went above and beyond to get us out quickly so my son could start to feel better. I highly recommend.

I had a thyroid biopsy scheduled for 11:30. The nurse took me in a little early to prep me. I was made ready and lay in a very uncomfortable position to expose my thyroid, which would have been fine for little while but the doctor doing the biopsy was almost an hour late in arriving. The nurse and the tech kept texting him and he kept replying that he was 10 minutes out or on his way or 5 minutes out. Because once I was prepped, I was unable to move, I was VERY uncomfortable for a VERY long time. I have never had this done at Lovelace before (I have had several over the years) and will NEVER have it done there again. In addition, I was sore for almost 2 weeks after the procedure. I usually am fine two-three days after the procedure. The nurse and tech were wonderful and kind but I was very, very, very unhappy with the doctor for his tardiness AND how sore I was for so long after.

On November 15th, my brother was taken to the emergency department. However, the charge nurse, Seana, and RN Cheyenne Mohamed were unprofessional and discourteous towards him, even though he was not fit to be discharged. Despite their insistence on discharging him, I requested to speak with the house supervisor. Fortunately, the house supervisor was helpful and professional, making it clear that my brother was not fit to be discharged. She arranged for him to be admitted to the behavioral health unit. Later, Seana asked my brother to change into paper scrubs. Despite his cooperation, she raised her voice and agitated him further by asking, "Hello, did you hear me?" I went to the nurses' station and spoke with Gerald, the security officer. While I was there, I overheard the caseworker, Megan, who was also unprofessional and mean to my brother, speaking loudly about how she refused to work with him. She stormed off visibly upset after I spoke with her. In my opinion, mental health, especially men's mental health, is not taken seriously enough. Your ER staff needs more training on how to deal with people in crisis.

I had the worst ER experience at this hospital. Back in February I was having excruciating abdominal pain, so my Grandparents took me to this hospital. Everything was fine when I arrived, the nurses right away started testing me and gave me medication. I had about 3 hours worth of different tests everything from CT scans to MRIs, ultrasounds, etc. One of the nurses there reviewed all of my tests and after everything came out normal, she came to the conclusion that maybe I was just drug seeking and straight up told my Grandparents there was nothing wrong with me. After she ran a drug test on me, it came out negative and wanted to discharge me. I was in so much pain I was crying at this point, but there was a kind male nurse that asked if they could run another test on me. It comes out normal and the rude female nurse comes in to tell us it came out normal, so then she has the audacity to say that I'm experiencing psychological pain and that it's all in my head. I left the hospital in excruciating pain. Fastforward to April, I was able to see other doctors and do more extensive testing, come to find out I'm diagnosed with stage 4 bowel endometriosis which can't be seen though regular radiology imaging. I believe the nurse's name was Deann Nelson. DO NOT recommend this hospital for emergency visits. On top of all of that, it was very dirty and there were no rooms/beds available and had to wait most of the time in the waiting room.

I had a chemical heart stress test at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. Everyone was polite, kind professional. There were two nurses and an ultrasound technician. The test was prompt, painless and thorough. I was very pleased with their communication to one another concerning my vital signs. I was very pleased. I would highly recommend this test at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico. Dana Nighswonger,MD

Oh my goodness, the care I got the kindness I got there was amazing. The people at the front desk kind understanding and helpful. The nurses in the back or great willing to listen and you consider caring hearts. Carry over at orthopedic oh my gosh she’s got huge shoulders to listen ears to listen you can tell she loves her job and she cares and loves her patients. And Dr. Gilligan oh my goodness. his bedside manner is amazing. He talks to you he listens to you. He cares about how you feel. He cares. He’s just a wonderful man. He has a beautiful staff. I am so so so glad I went to see him over at Lovelace. All I can say is I’m blessed to have a staff helping me like that.

Let me start by saying I myself am an RN so it was incredibly hard for me to accept I was the patient. I didn’t want to bother by pushing the call light but I am dealing with excruciating back pain so I had no choice. The charge nurse Meghan Medlin is ABSOLUTELY amazing! The compassion she showed me, I will never forget. She has a true heart for caring for her patients and making them feel comfortable. I will definitely be nominating her for the Daisy Award. I cannot thank her enough for her kindness, compassion and overall understanding. Lovelace, she is a keeper and deserves to be recognized πŸ’œ

After 10 days of hospitalization at the Lovelace Medical Center I continue to be impressed with the comprehensive quality of the staff and facilities. I was treated very well by a competent, caring, and experienced staff. Even though having to lay on my back with lots of devices plugged into my body was a grueling experience for ten days the staff made it endurable for me. I am very grateful for that. Dr Haarhuus was an outstanding player in my care.

The ER Staff were very responsive and got me to a room quickly. I was kept warm and in a quiet room while tests were run on my physical condition. I was asked several times what else I needed. I was hungry and not allowed to eat but understood why by the next day. All nurses and doctors were friendly and sympathetic. I appreciated the thoroughness of their care and for running all the diagnostics they performed. It was also great that they included me in the decision making.

All medical care exceeded our expectations. Every nurse, tech, doctor was competent, caring, a good listener, thorough, and worked well with coworkers. Even the housekeepers were friendly and fun. Some maintenance issues of the facility were evident. The downstairs of the Heart Hospital was very cold. Supplies seemed to be scarce. For example, funding for linen budget seems inadequate. Pillows, hospital gowns, blankets, walkers were in short supply. Staff, however, gets the highest marks possible for making do with what was available and solving problems as they arose.

I was recently at Lovelace for total hip replacement surgery, released the next day. My overall experience with staff and facilities was good -- staff particularly professional but kind and helpful, supportive. Food (3 meals) was pretty darned good! Forget the horror stories of hospital food --- this was more than decent. Overall, if I had to have surgery, this was a good place to be!

My husband was in the Heart Hospital for 31/2 days because of fluid retention and rapid weight gain. .It is easy to understand why the Heart Hospital is considered one ot the best hospitals in the state. The staff is superior.Needed tests are done in a timely way and interpreted quickly and reported to the patient. We are fortunate to have access to this fine hospital.

I was seen and treated at the ER by Dr Davenport for head and facial injuries, etc., sustained in a fall. Dr Davenport was amazing- very professional, thorough, and very compassionate. I was impressed at his thoroughness and his ongoing communication with us. An RN, Jason, was equally outstanding. I have both of them to thank for explaining each step of the way and for creating a caring atmosphere in which I received the best care possible. I thank these two professionals immensely.

I normally would not do this type of review but I must take the opportunity to recognize the extraordinary nurse that got me through a scary procedure. This is a huge shout out to my radiology nurse Jason. From the instant he phoned for my preoperative review until the last moment I saw him in the procedure he was the consummate professional--calm, competent, confident, knowledgeable and always reassuring. Thank you so much Jason, best nurse ever.

Not the best place to recover after having kidney surgery. My father had kidney cancer and needed his kidney to be removed, the surgery went well thanks to Dr. Kaplan. Being on the 8th floor for recover was the worst for him, he hardly got checked on. When he needed to use the bathroom he would press the call button and no one would come. I myself had to help my father to get up out of bed, they also said that they would get him up to walk around and none of that ever happened. The staff were not friendly either, in any kind of professional facility you would expect to be greeted by staff none of that happened. Not even the RN ask my father how he was doing? It was basically just them coming in to give medication and then to be just left there until the next 4 hour dose. I know Dr. Kaplan isn't responsible for the staff that work there, but whoever is needs to do better. The discharge paperwork took forever, and when we finally did get it there was no explanation of wound after care or what medications that could be used for pain. He also needed to wait to be wheelchaired down to the lobby and that took almost and hour. By that time my father was so impatient that he ended up just walking out on his own. My father also had a quadruple bypass at the heart hospital which is next to Lovelace, we had a great experience there. So much better that Lovelace doesn't even compare to the heart hospital, yes I understand that it is two different facilities of work but come on. The after care of having surgery, I would think your patient would be the #1 priority yes again I know there are other patients there seeking the same care. Regardless of how busy you are, the care of your patients would be priority. Isn't that why you choose to do the work that you do? With all that being said DO BETTER LOVELACE!!!

One of my best experiences in an ER setting. The staff was pleasant and respectful. Testing ran vert smoothly and was completed very quickly. My only concern is the disconnect with my primary care doctor for after care. Still waiting to see my primary doctor about concerns after 2 weeks. Was just inform I should scheduled an appointment with any open doctor that was available instead. So now I have to go thru my whole history with another new doctor, who has no true interest in me as an individual. What purpose does that serve? So now I will probably end up returning to the ER to get answers to my concerns. Costing me more money just to address my concerns that should be done by my primary doctor. Also additional testing was requested and no one had contacted me about scheduling these even though they have been ordered.

I've had four procedures at Lovelace Medical Center and all of them were successful. The medical staffs were all professional and friendly. I'm hoping I don't need more surgeries, but if I do, that's where I will go.

The actual surgery went very well and the Dr who performed it was great. I gave it a three star because of their release performance. It took awhile to sign off on the release paperwork and I came to find out they "lost' some of my clothing. My jacket and shirt were just gone. I find that was poor customer service on their part. Kudos to the Dr and her staff. They were spectacular.

My son sustained an eye injury at school. I took him to Lovelace ER where he was taken back immediately. The staff worked on him for over an hour - probably close to 2 hours. They kept us informed at all times and showed great care with him. It was definitely the best ER experience we've ever had and I highly recommend using Lovelace for all emergency needs.

My recent experience with Lovelace NM Heart Institute was outstanding. They put the "care" in patient care. From the people who check you in (in particular the 1st and 3rd floor) the people who call for follow up and instructions, the nurses, the technicians, the cardiologist; they are all very professional, extremely compassionate, and have wonderful attitudes. The system runs like a well oiled machine. The follow up is one of the best I have seen in a long time. I would like to give special recognition to Vicky who is a CT Technician on the 3rd floor. I had to attempt this scan 3 times and she was my technician twice. She is very patient and kind while paying attention to detail. Also nurse Manuel who made sure that my scan was read right away since I had a short time before my follow up appointment. Manuel also followed up with me to make sure I was aware the scan was read and I wouldn't have to cancel the follow up. Also nurse Tracea had great response to several on line questions. She sent a message saying she was on it immediately and got me an answer in very short amount of time. Dr. Shenoy is a great cardiologist and goes over everything with you. Her nurse Serena also had a wonderful personality and was very pleasant. My over all experience was fantastic. Great team work!

I highly recommend Lovelace and I thank them for the excellent care I received while a patient there.

I have a history of heart issues including atrial fibrillation and heart attack. I developed chest pain last week and felt i prudent to go to the ER at the Heart Hospital, especially since I was scheduled to travel to Italy one week later. I was immediately taken in and prompt attention was given. They kept me over night and multiple tests were run which concluded that my pain was not heart related. Nearly all of the personnel were kind, caring and supportive. I highly recommend the Heart Hospital, especially these days in New Mexico!

I was having severe back and chest pains. I arrived at the Heart Hospital and was triaged quickly and professionally. I spent several days and nights at the hospital in order to run tests and deternmine the outcome. The good news is, it wasn't my heart but I will need a follow up with a neurosurgeon. Absolutely, the very best care from my doctors and nurses! I've always trusted Lovelace and I'm grateful for their care, consideration, and kindness! Thank you!

Very efficient!!! Quick check in. No long wait in the waiting room. Nurses and doctors were fantastic. Overall, my care was very thoughtful. Best of all, the nurse did not hurt me when she put theIV in!!! I didn't know she put the needle in me

Dr. Gilligan did my hip replacement surgery. His staff and him are outstanding and they made the whole process easy for me. I appreciate how they communicated with me and everyone are down to earth. I also appreciate the anesthesiologists Dr. Elliot S. Marcus. He explained the whole process and he even visit me in the recovery room. God bless everyone through the whole process and making me feel better. Thank you!

Several years ago I was in Lovelace and had a horrible experience. I had hoped this time would be different. It started out good. The nurses were knowledgeable and friendly. I was told 1 and 1/2 hours in surgery 1 hour in recover and then to a room or a release to home. Started fine, got to recovery and then waited 5 hours. I heard that they were out of rooms, out of recovery rooms, walkers and had ordered trays for us that had been there for hours with no food. Suddenly a nurse came in and told me he got me released and it was a marathon to the front door. They suddenly moved so fast that they forgot to take the IV out of my arm. When I told them they removed it at record speed slapped a bandage on that kept falling off and wheeled me to the exit. Actually I didn't mind leaving that fast. I missed my tray but got fast food on the way home. Keep trying.

I was very pleased with the care I received at Lovelace Heart Hospital. The nursing staff and anesthesiologist were caring and sensitive to my concerns and put me at ease and seemed experienced and skilled as they prepared for my surgery. I am feeling much better (10 days later) so think the surgeon was very good too.

I was here for post-op. I checked in at the admissions desk. I didn't have to wait. Did the paperwork and when I was done the nice lady helped me to where I was supposed to go next. I didn't get her name. But that was a first. the staff would just send you on your way. She helped me due to me being in a wheelchair. I don't know what the leaders of Lovelace hospital did but I liked the improvements The next stop was getting lab work done. The nurse that drew my labs did a great job. I let her know of a bad experience and she was very professional and friendly. So, I was done in a few minutes. Next was an EKG and that was done. In minutes. The nurse knew where to place the leads to set up the procedure and I was used to waiting and wondering if anyone was going to help me. I think I spent less than 30 mins. The staff did a great job. So, when was done on the first floor. I was heading for an x-ray. Which was easy to find. But that was where the quick service stopped and the waiting started. I think waited longer than my labs & EKG combined. once the tech called for me to that when getting my X-rays were done in a flash. The technician was friendly and was great at explaining which position he needed me in. The service has improved and it shows. You no longer have to wait for an hour for a 10 min procedure. The staff has improved in helping and working with the public. The medical staff gets the test or procedure done quickly without any loss of knowledge and professionalism. Also, ensure their patients know why the test or procedure is being done. If you would have asked me if I was sick and if I needed medical attention. Which hospital would I want to go to? Lovelace Hospital would be the last place I would choose due to a bad experience I had there with the support and medical staff. If I needed a hospital I would always ask to be taken to another hospital. The service I received today has shown me that the administration has been listening to patients and some staff. keep up whatever you are doing. I hope that the improvement of your services continues to improve.

I loved all the nurses and techs. They were all very helpful and very sweet. My favorite nurse was Ana who always help to came right a way and always took the time to explain things fully. Michael one of my techs was a big guy with a heart just as big. He was so kind to me when I needed bathroom help and was so nice and put me at ease when I had diarrhea.
