The Hotel Washington is a wonderful hotel on a quiet street in Amsterdam. Please look at my photos and others posted to see the steep stairs you need to navigate to get to your room. Also please note the hotel does not have A/C but they did have an oscillating fan in my room. Overall this is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for”. The rooms are updated. The bathrooms are updated, but the hotel is in a very old building that can easily accommodate and elevator or A/C. If you need those look elsewhere. If you are fine without those those hotel is near the Van Gogh museum, multiple parks and restaurants. The staff are friendly and accommodating. They will do laundry for you. Drop off one day and pick up the next. It isn’t cheap but if you need some done on vacation this is a good option. Highly recommend!!

A nice little hotel from which you can be in the city in a short time: Location: Perfect. You can walk to the Museumsquartier in less than 10 minutes and to the city centre (pedestrian zone) in 20 minutes. Room: extremely small, there is no space in the very narrow wardrobe as there is only one clothes rail. The two compartments are occupied by a safe and a woolen blanket. The light in the bathroom is diffuse lighting where you can't see anything. Breakfast: Very extensive breakfast, which is also constantly replenished. Top! Staff: All very nice and friendly. Top! Cleanliness of the rooms: This is the only point of criticism, but it is a very big one. The dirt from the previous guest was actually only removed after 6 days! (there was a 3 cm cap on the floor the whole time / water rings on the shelf). The TV had such streaks that it must not have been cleaned with a clean cloth for months. The shoes that were left next to the bed could then be searched for under the bed after vacuuming. The toilet...., without words. The toilet seat (which was very shakily attached) was in desperate need of cleaning. Sometimes the towel was missing after housekeeping, sometimes there was no toilet paper…

The rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, the breakfast was good, the location was great. All good things about this hotel! We had a great experience. Small inconvenience : this is a non smoking hotel even if there was a balcony in your room.

Very nice hotel! Clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff, good breakfast, and good location! Only thing I want to mention is that there, depending what floor you are on, are very many, skinny flights of stairs and no elevator. If you are older or not able to carry your things up steep stairs, I suggest you either request a room on the ground floor, or, unfortunately you may want to find another hotel if a room on the ground floor is not possible. Additional tip: ask reception for help with parking! They were very helpful to us and showed us where to find cheap parking with park and ride!

it’s not fair to have a non refundable rate for a room you can’t guarantee you will receive. i booked a double room with one big bed. i check in, go upstairs, to see i was out in a room with 3 twin beds. id not understand because the room i booked was available on the website when i booked it. i went to reception to ask what happened and to either be moved to the room i had originally booked or a refund. neither was possible and they advised me to check the conditions which said “special requests not garuanteed”. since when is receiving the room you booked and paid for a “special request”?? additionally, the balcony doors didn’t open. i booked the room with hopes of being able to enjoy fresh air and sun— wasn’t possible. no AC, but instead a fan that was too broken to even face the right way. room were dingy and bathroom was quite outdated. additionally, the hotel features those very steep dutch stairs. good luck if you fall. not a place i would return to again and frankly, not worth the money i paid.

Great location and very attentive staff. Very good breakfast. View of a nice, small garden, hearing birds. Steep and curved stairs difficult to climb with a large or heavy bag. Expensive!

I really not recommending getting to this place unless its really cheap, cuz besides the fact that this place is close to the center of the city, it has nothing good to offer, I experienced multiple let downs every day in my 7 days trip, including a 200€ fine for minding my own smoking accessories inside my personal room.

The receptionist (Max) saw us enter with a person outside the reservation, he told us that we could not do it, we convinced him to leave us five minutes to collect some things that we had of her. Within 10 minutes of coming down from the room he told us that we had to pay a fine, which I thought was unbelievable. When we returned to the hotel (2 hours later), the room key would not open and the receptionist told us that we had been kicked out of the hotel, and we had to pay a 75 euros fine. He insulted us, threatened us, when we went to collect things from the room, he opened it twice without asking permission, not respecting our privacy. And all because it took us 10 minutes instead of 5 (conversation that has been recorded) When we asked for the receipt, the fine was suddenly 100 euros instead of 75. Shameful and insane.

Great little hotel in fantastic location. We stayed as a family with young children and it was perfect for our needs. Loads of character giving it that authentic feel. Staff were polite and friendly. Helped us down the stairs with the buggy. Room was clean and tidy with large bathroom.

Rooms get a bit stuffy. Fan helped but it would be nice to be able to open the doors to outside for some fresh air. (Room 7). Service is outstanding, location can't be beat. Mini fridge or coffee in room would be nice but honestly, the coffee for sale is absolute perfection.

Stayed there for 2 nights and it was great. Quiet street and great location that was not to far from concertgebouw (Tram stop). The room was clean and the staff were nice and informal.

Clean and spacy rooms. I had room on cellar, so practically no window. Also there were some bugs on bathroom.. a couple, don't know where they were coming from..

We had a wonderful experience at this little hotel gem. Amazing location; just walking distance from the Museum square and several metro stops. It's located in a beautiful old Dutch building with gorgeous large windows that open to a great view of the streets. The room was spacious and bathroom very clean, and each day our beds were made up and fresh towels provided. The narrow staircases are a little tiring to walk up since there's no elevator, but it spoke to the true Dutch experience. Keep that in mind, however, if you're unable to walk up narrow stairs or traveling with someone elderly. Service was great, staff was very friendly and attentive. We were able to check in 30 minutes earlier than expected. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. The only complaint I can think of is the breakfast is a bit pricey if you're paying for it separately, and the food leaves a little to be desired, but there are several cafes just steps away from the hotel. I just totally loved our experience with Hotel Washington and will definitely be returning.

Nice old hotel in a nice quiet neighborhood. The rooms are clean and well furnished. The staff is also friendly. The beds are perhaps a bit narrow.

I don't usually leave a bad review but unfortunately we had a terrible time staying at Hotel Washington. Firstly, we paid €225 per night, so I was not expecting to have to share a toilet and shower with 7 other people! The rooms were basic which is fine, but we booked a double bed and had a twin room. It was also quite dirty with stains on the sheets, dust everywhere and rubbish from the previous guests. The fire alarm went off at 6.30am on the Sunday morning and woke everyone up. If this was really cheap it would have been okay, but for the price it's a rip off. Giving it 2 stars for the location.

This hotel stole money from me: I paid a lot of money for a three night stay when I was planning to see a concert in Amsterdam in 2020. Due to covid I told them I had to reschedule until the concert would be held, which of course wasn't known at the time. When the concert finally had a set date again I contacted them to either get a reservation for the nights I had paid for or get my money back. But the hotel decided it fair to keep my money and not giving me any room, not even a discount. So if you're going to stay with them you better hope you won't need to reschedule.

Price and location was very good. Away from the nose but close enough to walk to the sites. Only problem is very, very steep stairs, almost like a ladder at some points but the room we are in is spacious and clean.

Before going here with my family for 1 night last week, reading your reviews, I was preparing to fight with them. But no! Very nice place. The staff were really good and helpful. I recommend

Good location, close to muzeums, room was spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately no lift and very steep stairs. No kettle in the room which was disappointing. Parking on the street for €6 /h

Stayed in the hotel over the weekend, the room itself was small as it was a single room but plenty of space for one person. Location is good, not too far from the city centre and close to other attractions. Plenty of parking if you drive.

I needed to book a place last minute (I had to unexpectedly stay in Amsterdam due to food poisoning a couple of nights prior) and I managed to book this place. The woman at the front desk when I checked in was lovely. The room was small but I didn't need it to be anything more, and it was nice and clean, with a decent shower. The stairs are a bit inconvenient. I was on the 3rd floor and the window was huge (more like a door) with no safety barrier or anything like that, which made me a bit anxious. When I checked out they let me keep my luggage at the hotel for a few hours, which was nice. I've known other places do this too, but it's still a nice feature. Overall it was a nice stay.

Clean room, nice modern design, nice staff, great breakfast! You can tell they flipped every coin to make it affordable but still really nice. Only down side is those long stairs but I guess it's part of the dutch experience ;) perfect place to stay for a short vacation, just as long so you can try every breakfast variations! thanks guys

The room was pretty good and everything was clean. The bathroom was small, but only shared with 3 other rooms. The receptionist was kind and polite. The stairs are very steep, so if you have any mobility problems it is something to consider.

No understanding from the hotel for illnesses. We booked a four-bed room three days before the planned arrival. One day later, still two days before arrival, two of the four family members tested positive for Covid and the hotel was informed directly. The only answer was "the other two can still travel". The next day, the other two members of the family also tested positive. After the third email to the hotel, no answer came back and we had to pay cancellation fees. Because our holiday was postponed, we would have arrived there with another family after 2 weeks, but they can forget that now.
