I booked 3 nights but only stayed for one. It was impossible to sleep - the door locks and creaky beds make an insane noise all through the night. I’ve stayed in 100s of hostels over the years but have never had an experience like this place where the room itself makes sleeping so hard. It’s wildly expensive for what it is, ignore the ‘superior/deluxe pod’ chat - it’s literally a bed with a socket. I lost €100 by leaving (no refunds offered) but had no choice if I wanted to enjoy my trip. Area is super touristy due to being right by the Acropolis. So depends if you like that (it wasn’t for me - the pics/description made it seem cosier than it was in real life). Basically a pretty commercial kind of place. One of those hostels you can tell within minutes of arriving that the managers have never actually slept there - no towel hooks, weird bathroom design where you can’t put anything down except on the floor. Small things, but just means you can tell the approach/attitude of the management.

Location was exceptional. Close to acropolis, dining, metro and shopping. Was not clean. Got BED BUGS, had to change my own sheets and go to the pharmacy for meds. No shower curtains so dirty water tracked everywhere in WC and bedroom. Room was a sauna and had to ask staff to turn on AC. Great view of acropolis from rooftop. Very loud hallways. Ladders on bunk beds slippery and bed pods not designed well. If you need rest and cleanliness do not book here.

This hostel was strange. While being in a similar price range to Mosaikon (great), it was significantly worse. My biggest issue was that I booked as it was advertised with air conditioning. It turns out that it is centrally controlled from the lobby, and no matter how many times you ask they will turn the temperature up or more usually off after a few hours so I was hot and sweaty often. I also had several bites: bedbugs, mosquitoes, I'm not sure, but I have reacted poorly to them regardless. The floors seemed a bit grimey (there was even a loose screw in the lift), and the bathroom bin needs more regular emptying, but otherwise it was reasonably clean. Rather than a card or key, you have to enter like a ten digit pin on the door or use an app, which is very annoying if you have left your phone/dead (and they never mentioned the app, I had to discover that elsewhere). The door to the balcony was very hard to lock, which is a safety concern. They also had poorly hanging drying racks on the balcony with no clips, which later led to my towel flying off onto a neighbouring balcony. Please also note that there are no locks on the lockers, it is BYO. No shower curtain which was weird. Bed curtains would also be great, especially in mixed dorms. Shortly after I arrived, two housekeeping staff were loudly arguing with each other in the lobby (I believe about whose duties were whose). However, after seeing the way that the owner speaks to and treats the staff, I assume they are probably understaffed and stressed. Maybe the aircon thing is also his policy. The building is not accessible for anyone wondering: there is a little lift, but there is a staircase to get to it, and the lift is likely too small for a wheelchair. You also cannot get to the rooftop with the lift. Upsides are that the location is good for a few of the sites as well as providing a free breakfast. The rooftop bar is social (+free shot) and has a great view, and good happy hour deals. TLDR: Not THAT bad, but not great for the price when there are nicer comparable options.

I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights, it's clean, has high quality rooms and has a great location. I travelled here as a solo female traveler at 18 and it felt completely safe. It also has a great rooftop bar for drinks!

Dishonest owners. Liars. Refused to admit their mistakes but instead blamed it on the guests. They can deny all they want; but you can read all their negative reviews. Crowds don’t lie! Very unpleasant stay. Regrets I didn’t check on the reviews earlier.

Loved my stay at Athens Backpackers! It’s central, safe, has a great vibe, clean and modern. There are lockers in the room big enough to fit a large suitcase, there are charging ports and lights next to each bed and no keys required - rooms are locked with a code (this is a game changer!). The staff are also extremely accommodating and friendly, and the rooftop bar is a great place to meet people and see the city. The breakfasts are also delicious! Highly recommend 👏

Check-in was delayed as cleaners didn't show up on the day. Once checked in we found we were missing a sheet on one of the beds. The locker in our room needed to be moved to open / lock as there wasn't enough space for them, which was annoying. The bed light is placed directly above your pillow and is very bright, almost blinding so couldn't have it on for long. The rental towels felt like plastic and we weren't able to dry ourselves with them so needed to use our beach towels. The room doors weren't very soundproof and the hallways were open to the main staircase which had noise echo from the whole building. Chairs and furniture from upstairs as well as toilet flushes from surrounding rooms could be heard. The rooftop bar noise also echos down the back of the building. Sadly didn't meet our expectations, so wouldn't recommend.

Pros: location is amazing and the rooftop with acropolis views is very nice as well. Cons: bed doesn’t has a curtain, bathrooms are kinda dirty. And it’s kinda noisy. I think is a young hostel. It’s a good value for money.

Location is amazing! Only a few minutes to the Acropolis museum. Also, great restaurants nearby. I opted for a 6 bed female dormitory. The rooms are good. The bathroom can be better. I would recommend if you are travelling solo. Very affordable!!

Great location, great people, great staff. Nice free breakfast, fun happy hour. Bathrooms are a bit damp but other than that all good.

Amazing stay! Staff was very friendly and helpful, the bed was pretty comfortable as well. Only complaint was that the rooms were a bit on the colder side. I went during Greece’s winter time, so it kind of sucked, but I’m sure it’s extremely refreshing during the summer time, as I know it gets very hot. Besides that, the hostel is in a very central area of Athens. I was able to walk to every attraction I wanted to go to. Most importantly, it was also a very safe area, which as a solo female traveler, it is something I prioritize. All in all, I absolutely love this hostel and will definitely be coming back to next time I’m in Athens!

Only four lockers in a six bed room (the lockers under the bed don’t fit even a small bag), room is too hot during day, bathroom has sensor light that turns off after 15 seconds and will leave you in darkness over and over again. Everything gets wet. It looks nice on listing but is a small lobby that is more a bar. Very average and loud - and the passcode to the room doors being 8 digits is overkill. But by far the worst is the lobby playing loud music late into the night meaning you will have music pound in your room if in lower levels … even after 11.30 when it is supposed to be quiet (forget sleeping before then as the building has a terrible echo and everyone is screaming)… why the staff insist to play music after 11.30 I have no idea bur there yelling and music just made it impossible to sleep. Ridiculous. Location is nice for acropolis - but actually is a very sterile neighbourhood and no stores or anything local. Hostel is super overpriced for Athens and is far better options. Avoid if you want to sleep ever. Gaps in doors so noise flows to room, you’ll here every drunken conversation in the stairwell during the night … some of which go for quite a while as the reception is locked up and no one is around.

This place has the best value (as long as they stay under €25/night 😍) - UNBEATABLE LOCATION. If you will only explore Athens, you can skip bus tickets.. everything is literally walking distance! - clean, like everything looks new - comfortable bed and spacious cabinets, has room for luggage too - restaurant can be a coworking space (not really when it gets busy at night at the bar but not a problem if you don’t have work calls) - breakfast buffet ⭐️ same dish everyday but its great anyway and you’ll need it before walking thousand steps everyday :) boiled eggs, bread, ham, cereals, oats… ⭐️ - staff 💪 Tips: Bring your own towel or you can rent for €2 and they also have laundry. Also bring earplugs as it can be noisy at night. Since its at the center of athens :)

I'll start with the positive : - Near the Acropolis - Near the métro - A/C - breakfast is ok Negative : - The bathroom is in the bedroom, not practical when someone take a shower at 1am. - There isn't places to put our luggage in the room - Not enough hook in the bathroom to hang your clothes, towel - There is no separation between the shower and toilet (no curtain) so the floor is always wet. - And the worst, the door was broken. We were not able to open the door from outside when we comeback at 8pm. Fortunately, someone was inside to open the door. But, the manager didn't wanted to fix it. So we needed to stay in the room to open for the others roomate, all the night. Your money is important for the manager, not the service

Noisy, but otherwise nothing else to say, it's your typical hostel. But if you're someone who prioritize sleep, know that there's loud music and people talking out loud at night that may affect it.

Was amazing stay, location is fantastic and staff is helpful and nice, however, the only thing that was bad is- on the rooftop bar the bartender(the male one, skinny with black hair) was rude and instead of doing his job was hitting on the girls and had the nerve after all of this to ask for a tip!!

A hostel located just under the hill of Acropolis next to the homonym museum in a very quiet street. Very kind personnel, excellent place to be and enjoy Athens.

Had an excellent time here. I extended my original stay to two more nights to see more of athens and was very happy to rebook here. The reception/lounge area during breakfast as well as the rooftop bar make for a great social environment if you are wanting to meet other travelers! The beds were clean and comfortable, the bathrooms are very spacious but having experienced two different rooms the lockers of the 4 pod rooms are large and able to fit everything you can carry but the lockers of the 6 pod rooms are small so suitable for storing essentials only (bring your own lock) Free shot available from when you check in and breakfast served every morning, a big spread and suitable for a small or large appetite! Super close to public transport and short walking distance from main attractions! The only complaint I could have is the lack of hanging hook/drying rack for any jacket or towels. Thanks for having me team :)

Great social hostel. Staff are friendly and kind. Breakfast is included, but you need to be quick as it ends at 10 am. Met some fabulous people during my staff and can't wait to return.

Positives: Location → absolutely amazing, I didn’t have to buy any transportation tickets to go around the town to attractions. Price → unbeatable Breakfast buffet → awesome, wasn’t expecting to have breakfast with my booking but it came with it and I loved it Points to improve: Shower rooms gets wet after shower, so probably having some kind of curtain could be good.

  • 5/5 Noah S. 1 year ago on Google
Stayed for 2 nights. Staff is super nice, location is prime, cost is good. Beds are pretty comfortable and there’s plenty of storage space. Breakfast for free was also great. Only complaint, and the reason I want to give just 4/5 stars, but won’t, is the shower. There’s no curtain/door for the shower and this led to the bathroom essentially flooding all over.

The place is well looked after. Staff very helpful. Croud in common rooms friendly. Had very good time in the day and sleep at night. Lovely rooftop terrace with acropolis view

Good: location, price, relatively clean Could improve: very cramped dorms, no curtains, shelves, no way to lock up your stuff.

I stayed at this hostel 2 for weeks and overall, it was a great experience. It’s just around the corner from the Acropolis, restaurants and all sorts of fun. The staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The ownership has put a lot of effort into nice little touches to make a guest’s stay better. That includes a very nice breakfast every morning from 8 -10am. I stayed in a female dorm with five other ladies. The room was clean as cleaning staff stopped in daily to toss trash, wipe down surfaces, sweet , mop and clean the restroom. These ladies were just so kind and hard working. Definitely stay at this hostel if you’re looking to be right in the middle of all the touristy stuff, it’s also super close to the metro station which makes exploring even easier.

Great location, can be a very social place.

  • 4/5 Briana L. 11 months ago on Google
5 stars in terms of staff & location - literally all the stars for the staff there. From the cleaning ladies to the bartenders and receptionists, all friendly faces and smiles. They work so hard and do such an amazing job. Buy one, get one free happy hour - you seriously can’t beat that. This was my most social stay yet and I’m grateful for all the kind souls I met during my stay. The hostel itself… when you’ve stayed in a lot of hostels, you come to appreciate the little things. Curtains for beds, enough lockers in the room for everyone, hooks for towels or clothes in the room, free bath towel for your stay (or even bathroom hand towel). Athens Backpackers has none of that. Important note - if you get a top bunk, be careful! I’ve always preferred the top bunk but at Athens Backpackers, it’s so dangerous! No railing for the bed and the ladders are awful, especially when climbing down. My friend in the corner top bunk didn’t even have a ladder, he had to use the one next to his bed and then use the wall to brace himself. I saw a different girl fall trying to get down. Another thing - the thick blankets they give you… I was there for 4-5 days and they never cleaned any of the thick blankets from peoples beds after they checked out. They put them on the railing for an hour or so and then folded them back up for new guests. It really grossed me out, even if they give you a top sheet to use in between your body and said blanket. Regardless of the downsides mentioned above (mostly minor inconveniences) this hostel might be one of my favorites just for the vibes & social atmosphere alone.

Check in was fast and I love the Goki system that lets me enter my room with my phone. Bed was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was a great variety. The location was fantastic and a safe area. It got a little loud at night, but the partying quieted down around midnight, which let me get the sleep I needed. I loved the rooftop with its amazing views

  • 4/5 Samantha B. 9 months ago on Google
Clean, nice balcony, friendly staff especially at the rooftop bar (which had an amazing view). Room was cleaned everyday! I loved the location and felt very safe as a solo traveler!

The hostel itself is alright. The wasn't any heating in Athens December, so we had to sleep with our coats on. But there is free breakfast and the staff is very nice.

The rooftop bar is closed for renovations. This is something they don’t mention in their website and I wish I knew before I make the booking. The sports bar is also in a different location than the hostel. Other than that.. It’s a nice and clean hostel, with big comfortable beds.

This was the perfect place to stay on a budget! The pod rooms were clean and the space was very trendy and nice. We were a short walk from the Acropolis and a lot of cool shops. Breakfast was a small walk away as well, but that made for a nice morning getting to see the city. Breakfast was very fresh and light, nothing too fancy but everything there was very good. The rooftop bar on top of the hostel is within view of the Acropolis and made for a great spot to finish our last night in Athens. I’d definitely stay here again!

Fast, easy check-in, really nice bathroom en suite, decent bar/lobby are to hang out. Friendly staff, particularly in the afternoon/evening. Great breakfast. Really affordable.

  • 5/5 Brenden S. 2 years ago on Google
Clean rooms/bathrooms and friendly service. Bar/restaurant in lobby is great place to meet new people. And it's all a stone's throw from the Acropolis.

If your looking for a good time and a place to meet and drink with other backpackers, and a great location, then this is the place to go to. I found the staff very friendly, the beds seemed comfortable and was fairly clean. There are some drawbacks being a hostel of cause, but if your looking for somewhere quiet this is definitely not the right place. If your looking to party, then 5 stars it is!

  • 5/5 Thod K. 2 years ago on Google
It is a hostel right in the heart of old city of Athens underneath Acropolis. Ideal for young travelers who need a cool place to stay for a few nights before they leave for another destination or they just want to hang around and have fun with other residents in the hostel's activities. Yes the hostel organizes party nights such as quiz nights or karaoke nights etc. The staff is awesome and very helpful. Rooms are very well equipped with anything a traveller usually needs but mind that they may not be as private you might want to. Perfect for social people who like to meet others and for people who like spontaneous fun activities. Very close to metro station, the Acropolis museum, the Acropolis itself, the main pedestrian street of old Athens, the Olympian Zeus Columns and many many MANY more archeological sites of several eras. Have fun!

I was honestly very disappointed with this hostel. I’ve stayed in many hostels before and I’ve rarely experienced other guests that were this disrespectful. The hostel itself is fine. It’s in a great location and the staff is very kind. (Note: the “kitchen” isn’t a real kitchen. I only stayed a night so that didn’t bother me.) However, I was woken up multiple times during the night because of other guests shouting and running in the hallway. It was long past quiet hours and a week night. Also worth noting that the bunk beds are more difficult to get into than most. The design of the beds makes it difficult to grab onto anything at the top as you climb.

  • 3/5 Scott B. 2 years ago on Google
Nice location. The top bunk beds are difficult to get onto because the ladders are horrible and the shower in the bathroom soak the entire floor. The showers need a door.

  • 4/5 Andrew D. 1 year ago on Google
Biggest drawback was lack of (secure) luggage storage when needing to hold luggage before check-in. Also my room only had 3 lockers for 6 people so I shared with my friend in another room (which had 6 lockers). Staff were great though and washrooms were good. Also they give you a “welcome” shot which is nice. Bathrooms were decent.

Awesome place to stay, big and clean rooms! I met so many great people who I’m friends with. The location is INCREDIBLE, close to everything, best place I could find. Nicolas was amazing and the drinks were the best, happy hour was so fun.

I really enjoyed this hostel. I stayed for 14 nights and was impressed with the location, atmosphere, and cleanliness. The daily breakfast was also a huge benefit. My plan was to stay again May 31-June 2nd but they are sadly full.

Nice Hostel, really close to the center or basically everything you have to see. Everything was smaller than it looked on the internet, but for me it wasn't a big deal, it was just for sleeping. The guest kitchen wasn't really a kitchen, so that threw me off a bit. Great breakfast! There was a locker missing in the room I was at, so i didn't had a place to leave my things, but okay, nothing happened. The bathroom was always cleaned! The rooftop was normally closed, i don't know if it's because of the time of the year...but yeah.

  • 1/5 Keelan G. 1 year ago on Google
i only stayed 1 night and that was more than enough. For some reason they turn the AC off at night time so sleeping isn’t even an option. I talked to the staff about maybe turning the AC on during our nights of stay but for some reason only the owner can remotely turn the AC on which they will not do. Cut my stay in early and went somewhere else. If you don’t like sweating through all your pores please avoid this place. I could go on with more stuff I hated like no privacy in the beds and the bathroom light not being able to be turned off but mostly the heat got to everyone, not just me but everyone in our room couldn’t sleep 0/10

  • 5/5 Jordan L. 1 year ago on Google

Unbelievable warm nights and the central Air Co was off. I couldn't rest at all because of such a cheap decision from the staff. Other than that the hotel is nice, but the experience wasn't.

Absolutely amazing! I travelled solo there and I met a ton of awesome people, the staff is very helpful and social and are always happy to chat/give you recommendation! The location is perfect, within walking distance of all the main attractions and near the metro for more further places. The hostel is clean, the room really nice and quiet and the bed is comfortable (some hangers or shelves in the bathroom could be a nice add on)! The happy hour is very worth-it (though it’s a trap but one happy trap!). This is a great place for solo traveller to stay in Athens, 10/10!

My first Hostel experience and i will definitly do it again. Hostel is 100 meters away from Acropoli metro station. I stayed in a 4 bed room. Room has big lockers, clean bathroom. The only down issue is that they can put one chair and a table in the room. They also offer breakfast which is simple but very good. Bar area has a big table when u sit and meet all the people. Dont think twice when booking this hostel.

  • 5/5 Sebastián C. 1 year ago on Google
Literally a great price that includes a simple breakfast and all main attractions in Athens within a walking distance. It has a metro station 50 meters away and a convenience store, mini market, gyros place and more restaurants no more than 200 meters away. Very recommended with a very nice staff and very nice and effective cleaning personnel. I would certainly love to visit again in the future

  • 5/5 George W. 2 years ago on Google
Very good hostel. Facilities are very modern and almost hotel like. The location is perfect, could throw a stone from the roof terrace and hit the Acropolis ticket office. Great views of the Acropolis from the roof. One issue improvement I would make is the lockers, they were a bit flimsy, someone with a screwdriver could easily break into them.
