1 star for the nice interior and fast service but the food was very bad. Cold, dry and hard for all dishes we ordered. Also reasonable pricing for Paris but small portions. We left at 1pm on a Sunday and there was a long queue outside which i cannot understand why. Wouldn't even queue 5 minutes for this. Hello everyone this is France, there's lots of good food elsewhere❤️

Beautiful place, very pleasant staff. The prices are really good for Paris, but the place feels like a fast food restaurant with local food. The food was not really amazing. We ordered a steak that was quite good and a sausage that we just couldn’t eat because of its really weird taste and had to order beef cheeks instead. They replaces the sausage without any issues, thanks for that!

1 star just for our waiter, otherwise -5 stars and more! We visited this restaurant with friends who came here regularly. The waitress Swan was very nice and probably the nicest thing in this place. It started with our tap water in which floated bread after previous customers, glasses were dirty and unwashed. We ordered a starter that came out within an hour (6 snails- they were the second thing good in this place), we got bread on side which was hard as stone, you will break your teeth with it, as a main we had a steak with french fries and pepper sauce, I ordered a medium and got rare( see images when I cut it in the middle) our orders were completely flipped, the mushrooms that were supposed to be on the cream as a side dish, were black fried and sour, I would never recommend anyone to come here, the food was really bad and disgusting, meat was old, the quality was crazy, don't come here and find a better place around!

My aunt recommended me this place due to the inside and also because it is a local restaurant that right now attracts a lots of tourists. I ordered some escargots, wine, water and the beef with fries which all was recommended by the waiter. Sadly I got sited in the back of the restaurant and wasn’t able to have the dinner under the beautiful ceiling this restaurant has. I made a really long queue, they give priority to groups of +4, and since I was alone it took me about 1 hour to be sited.

The place was very pretty, the waiters were really kind. We had the snails and they tasted great. As main course I ordered the veal stew. Too sad it was already cold when it arrived. The portion was small and there was only 4pieces of meat and the rest was the white sauce. The rice was bland and it didnt taste good. The dessert was alright, but nothing special at all. It's a pretty place but sadly only beautiful for pictures.

Fun and very lively restaurant. We showed up at 6:45 and walked right in. We left a little after 8 and there was a long line. Had the steak with pepper sauce and fries. Was tasty. Service was not the friendliest. We had heard a lot about this place but not sure it lived up to the hype.

Super rude waiter and the food was mediocre at best. I came here on my first day in Paris. I managed to get a seat immediately since I went after lunch. The waiter who served me was a rude French who was triggered when I said I did not need any drinks. I had brought a small bottle of water and he said to “You cannot drink your water here. You can put it on the table but you cannot drink it here. You understand?” Because I was caught off guard by his remark, I froze and he proceed to raise his voice at me “No? You don’t understand?? I said you cannot drink your water here”. The duck confit was nothing to shout about. It was extremely salty and the potatoes served were not well cooked. Only come here if you’re with French people in your group because otherwise the service is just abysmal.

The restaurant looks awesome, but the food isn't tasty. We ordered chicken with fries and it was the worst chicken I have ever had in my life - a wing with a big piece of breast, dry as a pepper, plus rubbery fries and ZERO salads. It looked and tasted terribly poor. I do not recommend. Snails for a starter - so so. Generally, it is worth coming just to sit in a place with an interesting decor, but rather only for dessert or cola.

If it weren't for the low prices, i would've rated with 3 stars instead of 4. Interesting experience, but not a must. The biggest disappointment was the cleanliness or lack of. I had to change the cutlery two times and the same for the glasses (and i am not a fussy person). The duck was really tasty, but can't say the same about the chicken or the sausages. If you want to order wine, go for a bottle, not the house wine. Also, because they don't take reservation, expect to cue for being seated.

Really good place considering the price! One of the cheapest place you could find but not a must to come here, everything tasted ok. Except rum baba was very nice. The place is very packed, expect to be seated right next to another person so there is no personal space, it feels like fast Chinese food restaurants but serve french. The service was quick and the waitress was very nice.

Classic french dishes served by friendly staff in beautiful interiors, at a very good price. What more to ask for? It took our group of 7 (4 adults, 3 children) just under an hour to get a table at lunchtime. The bill came up to around 135 Euro for a full meal with starters, mains and 2 bottles of wine. I call it a bargain and will be back for sure!

If you are looking for a nice authentic place this is the one. The metro is exactly in front of the restaurant. The prices are very good and the food is decent. I had the beef cheeks with mashed potatos and it's a must. 3 people with main courses drinks and 6 snails and dessert and we payed 75€. The service was fast and welcoming.

We waited 1 hour in the queue, when get seated waited half an hour to get the food. After long hours, you expect something good and food was so bad. I could not even chew the meat. Ordered medium, got well-done, asked them to change and got the rare at the second time. How can you fail both times. Fries were soggy, mushrooms have no taste. Sangria was almost only water. It is not worth the queue, I don’t recommend it at all, avoid it all cost.

the Atmosphere was great, but the food was definitely disappointing, especially since the beef was not cooked enough (French way) and stiff parts were not separated. Snail was good. It's inevitable that you'll have to wait at the door during crowded and busy hours. i think you should try other flavors besides beef

The food was decent for the price. However, they served the salmon with the bones in and my mom nearly choked on the bones (there were so many!). The chicken dish was also mostly bone too, but at least that was a bigger bone (just awkward to eat and the meat was mostly stuck to the bone). They also charged us more money than what we ordered (and what the menu listed as the price) and refused to give us a receipt or explain why there was a difference. We waited over an hour to go in and would definitely not do that again, especially with the food quality. There's other places with similarly priced food that's of higher quality. The service was also super slow and we never got baguettes even though other tables did. A side note but their washroom was a mess and there was water leaking everywhere with slippery floors... I went with my parents and they nearly tripped on the ground. When we told the server, they just nodded and said yeah, we know but no one actually actioned on that feedback.

Totally fantastic experience in all ways. Really interesting dishes that tasted great, a great atmosphere, fast and on point service, and all at a really great price. We all really felt like we'd had an authentic Parisien experience. Reserve ahead if you can because the line to get in can be long. But, even if you wait a bit, it's worth it! Thanks! Cheers!

You can't get better value for money than here if you want classic French cuisine (home style). Don't expect anything fancy. Service is good and of course the art deco architecture just makes it even nicer.

A very traditional and classic French cuisine restaurant with amazing prices. The cheese was only 2,90 or so and the main courses were about 10 euros. We got at least 4 or 5 plates all for 30 euros. The food is good, the duck was dry so we asked for gravy. My friend got the chocolate mousse and she liked it. The beef stew is amazing! The best of all. The Butcher's cut was recommended to us but we didnt want heavy meat at the time. This is an essential French experience. The staff and service are incredibly friendly! You will feel at home.

Authentic french cuisine at a moderate price. Service wasn't the best this day but the food was good and came out fast. Prepare to wait in line during peak hours.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and it's giving authentic french vibes. The menu is also traditional french food, which is great. However, my steak was VERY hard... It also had strings in it, which were very hard to eat and cut. We came in a non-rush time so we didn't wait much, but i wouldn't wait a long queue for this place.. it's overrated, you can get a meal deal for the same price at the Quartier Latin. The serving was quick and convenient.

The most overrated place you can find in Paris. First of all you have to wait more than one hour outside, with the “bouncers” basically laughing in your face. After the wait you get in and the waiters come to take orders literally on a piece of cardboard. The food is below average, the positive thing is that it is extremely cheap. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, but the restrooms are probably the dirtiest I have even seen in a “high-end” restaurant, silverware and the glasses were dirty as well. Inside it is absolute chaos, completely full of people screaming. Not suggested.

Immer wieder gern.

Food maybe is not very good, but overall vibe is amazing. It’s also very cheap and they write your check on the table-very interesting. Super crowded - we stood in a line 15mins.

Great local traditional cuisine. You’ve got a great mix of French people and rowdy young people which is fun. This is an affordable option to try several French dishes. The bathroom was out of service due to rains which was awful but guests could go next door. The snail was great and the prawn was nice with mayo. The steak was awful and the knife was as dull as a butter knife. The bolognese was great. The bread was as bad as Spanish bread, old and hard. Cider was delish. The decor was really cool and your traditional French style. Overall, do it! But don’t order the steak unless you like tough, poorly cooked meat. Definitely try the black pepper sauce!!! It’s delicious with the steak or fries.

If you want to eat at a decent time, you should go early because you will have to wait in line for about 40 - 60 minutes. They make as much use of space as they can, seating couples who came separately and didn't know each other together, so they will pass people in front of you to fill a whole table. If you are a group of four, you won't have a problem and they won't seat any strangers with you. As for the food: although the plates are large and the food is good, it's not worth the wait. On the other hand, the service was incredibly attentive to all of us (we are spanish and they have a menu option in spanish, although it was not well translated). They take notes on the tablecloth and do the bill right there. It's incredible and an unique experience, that's for sure.

Honest, traditional and tasty food. Beautiful wine. Exceptionally cheap. Location and decor are amazing. Atmosphere is great. The waiter was kind and kid friendly. It was worth queuing for 25 minutes. A great French experience. Highly recommended.

Came for late lunch, wait time was around 20 mins at 2pm! Had just the snails which was nicely done and great value at 7.50, and the Rum Baba - like what everyone said, was drenched in rum! Service staff was friendly but very overwhelmed.

I'm Parisian and it was a first for me. Obviously you don't go there for the quality of the food but more for the experience. Food is not expansive at all for Paris and is still pretty good. Fast, simple, good food! Really had a good time!

If you want to have a taste of classic french brasserie ambiance, go there ! I always love to go at Chartier, you can eat typical french dishes for a cheap price. The atmosphere and the decorum are fascinating ! I recommand the andouillette and the tête de veau with a profiterole for the desert !

Very nice service and fast. The price of the menu is very fair and the quality of the food is good. Very typical plates. The restaurant is wonderful and the decoration reminds you to the Paris of 1900. We would repeat for sure!

The service and the vibe was great and promising. We had waited for about 45 minutes before we were let in. The food: snails - very good shrimps - good Main courses: Spaghetti Bolognese Spaghetti Vege Salmon with potatoes All three with a slight exception of Bolognese: BLAND, no spices. Vege included pickled (?) vegetables... Surprising to say the least. Very little tomatoes in both portions spaghetti. Salmon ok-ish, three small potatoes on the side. All bland. On the way out the queue was on the street.. no idea why. Must be SO MANY better spots in Paris than this.

Second time eating at Bouillon Chartier - we arrived 22 August to meet friends for lunch. We were promptly greeted by the hostess of the restaurant who kindly had us seated in the waiting area until our friends joined us to complete our party of six. Due to train delays we waited for over an hour for their arrival. The hostess in that time was in constant movement as she made quick assessments of who could be seated, who could be placed at a share table, who she needed to politely place to one side as they waited for other people, she managed to keep the line moving and it seemed as the restaurant filled to maximum capacity that people were never left to wait more than 5mins. Her attentiveness to the queue, to ensuring patrons were looked after, to ensuring nobody 'jumped the queue', was incredible to watch. She must have seated around 150 people in that hour we waited. She also recognised our lengthy wait and offered to get us a carafe of wine. When the rest of our party showed up, fully expecting we would need to wait as the restaurant was full, the hostess managed to seat us immediately as she had juggled tables and seating timings in a way to ensure a table for six could be available. I am incredibly grateful for her attention. Once seated, orders were taken swiftly and food service was fast. The menu consists of typical French dishes at very reasonable prices. Entrée dishes are a few euro, mains 10-16 euros, cheeses/desserts for a few euro. The food has been consistently good. Our waiter recommended a couple of bottles of wine for the table and then some digestives - again, our second experience eating at a Bouillon Chartier was fantastic. We also had two young children in the party and the menu could cater for their appetites. Overall a really enjoyable experience and a special thanks to the hostess!

You will be catapulted into the Paris of long ago in a beautiful dining place that it’s bigger than you expect. The service is fast and on point. The food is traditional, delicious and “how it used to cost”. Great experience

I didn’t enjoy my time here. The food I ordered was mediocre, although the dessert was pretty good. Service wasn’t the greatest, felt like the guy serving us didn’t care about our experience. I also thought it was weird they seat different groups at the same table. A group of two joined our group of four. Made the seating a bit awkward and tight.

  • 4/5 Ropl 7 months ago on Google
Previous visit was to their other location on the Right Bank. This time tried the one at Montparnasse. With the exception of the celeri remoulade I enjoyed the beef tongue, rice pudding and escargot. Service was good enough as communication was a little tough with serveuse limited English and my non existent French. Fairly reasonable price.

Beautiful place, social and good food. --- reply --- This is our first time in Paris, we went to both restaurants, we loved sharing the table and meeting sociable people, chatting while waiting for the meals is great, the staff are very friendly and today the waitress helped us a lot. the food is typical of France, very tasty! excellent price and the place is beautiful, I will return, thank you!

Food was really nice! Waiters were so busy. Non-stop working doesn’t affect their attitude. They still provide good service. We have a great experience here!

French classics at an unbeatable price (you won’t get cheaper than this). You will have to queue, it’s not ‘fancy’, but the food is great, the service fast and friendly, the venue beautiful, and the entire experience worth it!

Great aesthetics and very busy atmosphere. Wait was very very long (about 45 minutes), but overall manageable. Food was delicious and cheap, total bill was about 180 for 7 people with appetizers, entrees and desserts. Would recommend!

So amazing ancient place (Founded in 1896) ! With real traditional French food!!! Many thanks to the waiter Charlie, for the excellent service! One of the best places in Paris with a luxurious interior! Prunes in wine with ice cream - were magical! Bravo!!!

  • 3/5 Joe . 1 year ago on Google
The place is gorgeous, traditional parisian restaurant with great decor, truly beautiful. However, the food is not good at all, the concept of a bouillon is not very refined so don’t expect fine dining or any sort of typical dining, it’s more like a cafeteria. The steak we took was pretty bad and oily, we also took shrimps that were not that great. Service is also bad so the the 3 stars are only for the decor honestly.
