I live in Chiang Mai and though I don't live in this hotel, I do eat breakfast here every morning. It's a fabulous buffet breakfast, and if one is not a guest at the hotel it's only $250 bought. Truly a bargain. I have stayed in this hotel previously, and it's a fabulous place. The rates are very affordable, and while this apparently is only a four-star hotel, I think the service levels bring it up to five star. Really great service here from all levels of staff! Not one pool here but two: one freshwater pool and one saltwater pool. Can't beat the location. Easy to walk to the Old City. The river is nearby. And it's surrounded by great restaurants, both Eastern and Western. Whenever I have guests that visit me, this is where they stay, and they Rave about their experiences! Absolutely recommended!! Update: So great to be back.... Same great service as always! Thank you Mr Prawit and your great restaurant staff!

This hotel was probably magnificent 20 years ago… but it didn’t move since then! The rooms (and I was it in the lowest category) are very outdated, the bathroom is falling appart, they still use keys (like real keys!) for the rooms. The buffet breakfast could be nice but they don’t use ice to keep drinks, yogurt and butter cold. They told us once that they don’t have ice (sigh!). They have another branch hotel (The Premier) next to it, which looks way more modern (the gym and pool are actually there) and I believe people often mistake the two of them when writing the reviews. The only good point was the staff, who tried hard despite the facilities not following.

This is our fifth stay (and the second within this year) in Empress Hotel Chiang Mai. The hotel staff are friendly, attentive, smiley😊 and hardworking. Albeit this hotel's last renovation was over two decades ago, it is well-maintained, tidy and clean. (I think all the staff pull their weight to keep it going!) Definitely our top and the only choice to stay in whenever we come back to Chiang Mai.

Probably one of the best hotels I ever stayed in. All rooms have home automation features such as smart light switching 🕯️ and automatic toilet flushing 🚽. The large swimming pool 👙 opens at 7 AM and closes at 7 PM. Large variety of breakfast options: 🥣🥪🍳🥐🥞

We went for one night. The room was clean. The pool is nice and quite. The decorations and colors in the hotel are not for my taste, looks very traditional, not modern style. The bed was creaky. We had two minor issues and they solved it in not time. The breakfast was good.

Words can’t describe the experience we had when we stayed at the Empress. The place is stunning. Chandeliers fill the foyer, the room was spectacular and every single staff member went out of their way to help us. They were always smiling and always friendly and helpful. I can’t recommend the Empress Chiang Mai enough.

More a 4-star hotel than a 5-star. Although it was low season, the breakfast and swimming pool was very crowded. Cannot imagine how busy it’ll be in the high season. Location is good.

Close enough to night markets for a stroll. We stayed in the premier wing but both buildings are off the busy mainroad so there is no traffic noise. The service was excellent. The staff speak English well. Breakfast was very nice with many choices.

The room was clean and they offered us a complimentary meal at the restaurant (although they had no idea what vegan was, even after telling them multiple times). The breakfast buffet was nice and the view from our room was good. The pool was decent.. … The hotel was very old fashioned. They wouldn’t give us an extra key to the room (we were 2 friends sharing and didn’t want to be together 24/7) and the ……

This is the best hotel in Chiang Mai, I've been coming here for 20 years. The service is absolutely brilliant, the staff can't do enough for you. Each and everyone greet you with a smile. When you arrive they give you a bag of good quality goodies. I highly recommend this hotel.

The front desk staff here was amazing. They helped with multiple little issues during our stay and we’re extremely welcoming. Aoy, the manager, was kind, patient, and managed the busy influxes of tour groups with ease. I would absolutely stay here again the next time we come to Chiang Mai.

I stayed in room 706 for a week during November/December 2019. A free upgrade. Hotel Supervisor Ms Boon was so kind. The food was excellent, the steak was just ok. I love the live music in the downstairs resturant. The pool was very big. The hotel was spotless & workers were always smiling making me feel very welcome. I would advise anyone visiting Chiang Mai to stay at this hotel. You won't be disappointed.

The Empress has an old money exotic flair to it that amused us. The staff was excellent, quickly and graciously solving problems like I lost an umbrella on sight and locked my key in the room. The food on sight is pretty good without significantly higher charge than the area. 10 minute walk to the night bazaar and many nearby restaurants. One of the fastest wifis I've had in Asia. The bed was hard for my taste but it didn't bother either of my companions. Good hotel.

Very friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds; my shower wouldn’t drain properly so only 4 stars

Nok Yoong room at Premier building is a very good meeting venue. Nice audio and visual screen. Khun Rut and Khun Dao are professional meeting organizer. Rooms are cozy and clean. Variety of breakfast in a good standard. I would come cack to arrange the meeting here again.

Huge rooms and beautiful decor. Very helpful staff and a delightful manager; she was especially kind and went out of her way to make us feel at home (after a long drive from Bangkok). We stayed there in January.

Very good choice. Pros: Excellent sleep, mattress, swimming pool (super clean) and if you stay more than 4 nights they give you a food basket with many goodies. Every night there is a band playing called the “Emotions band” ahaha! so suitable. Cons: The only thing that could be improved is having a better gym with readable weight lift, they are too old and rusty. PS: The next door hotel is called The Empress “Premier”, it also belongs to the same owner and has an amazing and super clean swimming pool for laps. Their gym is much nicer. I will also recommend this place since we were sent there for our buffet breakfast.

Decent overall stay but there are two glaring issues. If you get a connecting room, you can hear absolutely everything your neighbor is doing. Huge problem some nights. Also the AC only runs at 20.5C or you have to turn it off. I'm a scrawny man and that's a stressfully low temperature for daytime. Even if you put it into fan mode, is still runs at 20.5.

Great service and facilities. The real hilights were the staff (which were the friendliest that we have encountered so far in thailand) and the amazing family 2-bedroom unit. Pool and breakfast were great. Pool hours should be longer - closes at 7pm which was disappointing for people on holiday when temperature well over 30 degrees.

I really liked this hotel for the convenience to the night market and the old city. We like to walk and both were walking distance. I recommend adding the breakfast option as they had a good variety. Really enjoyed relaxing at the pool as well.

I stayed here for 5 days for a business trip. The WiFi was not bad. Although, It was a bit slow at the lobby, it was faster in the room. At least, I could join an online meeting without problem.

As some other reviews say, this was 5-star level hotel in the 90’s maybe..not even close to 5-star standards this day and age. Pool and gym are in the premier wing. Only good thing in this place was the cleaning service who always put the room nicely and big coffee cups in breakfast. Breakfast itself is underwhelming to say the least.

Room's furnishings are old and satisfactorily maintained. The AC in the room is ultra cold, which is a plus point for us! Would like to commend the patient staff who were friendly and accommodating to us throughout our stay as we had encountered a problem with the booking company. Personally, the rooms need a thorough refurbishment and upgrade as the doors were still using the old school key unlocking system instead of keycard access. Loved the generous goodie bags when we checked in during New Year's Eve.

Lovely place straight out of a 90’s movie. Excellent genuinely friendly service. Got upgraded to an executive room at check in because of a confusion of booking with the Premier hotel next door. Beautiful room, small bathroom. Value for money can’t be beat. A short stroll from the night market and quiet environment for a nice sleep. I’ll be back.

The room is large and quite comfortable, albeit a bit old decoration. The bed is just OK, but the pillows are not too comfortable. The laundry bag is chargeable, so don't take it if you don't need it. Breakfast is surprisingly good and have large selection. Location also quite OK, and you can hail taxi easily to night market etc.

Empress Premier, new, large room, small price compare with room and services you get. Recommend

Luxurious, top service, beautiful. Hands down 5 stars. We loved the dinner and the breakfast (you could taste Thai kitchen, maybe milder... for tourists, and very good quality European food). Incredible choice. Expect a bit of weirdness during dinner: all I have to say is that all the staff danced and sang „Felice Navidad“. And it was March. The room is clean, big and with parquet ; we got lucky with also a cool view from the room. Nice swimming pool.
