Very rude hostess. My friend and I sat at our table and began to order and then the hostess came back over and said we had to leave because we did not have a reservation (we didn’t know reservations were required). We are so sad. Just wanted to eat some food. And she was so rude about it :( she made a mistake and should’ve just let us eat our breakfast but instead we are screaming crying throwing up and VERY hungy. Just wanted some g dang home fries. We aren’t bad people :(

This roasted vegetable sandwich was life changing. I cannot wait to go back. Great cold brewed tea. Loved having lunch here

You have to get an almond croissant 🥐. Even if you wind up saving it for later. The biscuit in the breakfast sandwich is heavenly. Loved it!

Really good place to go! Easy to go, nearby t station! The place has wifi and restroom inside. They serve breakfast/brunch and dinner! We went there to try the dinner! We reserved a spot around 7:30 and the restaurant closes at 8:00 but we could order and eat calmly inside! The attendant was really kind but she tried to take out our plates without we finish it (not once but twice). The food is really good, that taste is amazing and it's a fair place!

Delicious coffee. I love to brunch here because they have an actual coffee shop too so you can get real espresso and lattes. The eggs Benedict are delicious and it’s located in a very cute part of south end. Highly recommend a stop here. Only thing to caution you about: the biscuits are pretty unique and definitely not my favorite. They tasted a little stale and were difficult to cut through or chew. Everything else I loved.

One of my favorite places to order lunch from. The BLT & tomato soup filled me up! Check out that Italian sandwich (on gluten free bread!) Also came here for brunch, a bit pricy but it was tasty! Was a nice late summer morning on the patio.

Came in for a coffee meeting on 8/24/21 and was very surprised to see the staff, and most customers, not wearing masks… The coffee is good, strong. And the biscuits are delightful

Fantastic waitstaff at this restaurant. Very attentive. Great brunch food. I had the French toast. Great place for large parties too. I went here with my new girlfriends. We will return!

I love this place! They have a good selection of baked goods and also serve warm plates as well. Staff here are very friendly and willing to help customers on the menu. Love this neighbourhood. It’s very beautiful especially during the fall.

Very mediocre smoked salmon bagel. Couldn’t taste the tomato and there was too much cream cheese. The bagel was very hard. The banana bread was good though.

One of my favorite places - delicious food for brunch & lunch & dinner. They have great places to sit inside and outside and the whole space feels airy and super cute. If you don't want to wait in line during the busiest parts of the day (Saturday brunch, lunchtime, etc.), they have a super easy to use online ordering system I am a fan of. Highly recommend!

Nice little spot and the staff is very friendly but silly, they don't listen very well and service is some times slow because they didn't get your order right. I am really getting turned off.

This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Boston and has been a neighborhood favorite since they first opened. In addition to serving some of the best coffee you can buy, they have plenty of sweets and treats. The menu has grown to include about a dozen sandwiches and lunch options which are convenient to eat at the cafe or to grab-n-go. The restaurant, which is open for dinner and brunch is a good place to meet up with a friend or another couple For dinner, I'm partial to the burger which is consistently good. Weekend brunches at The Buttery tend to book quickly so definitely make a reservation if you go.

Tucked in South End, this little establishment surprised me when by accident I found it driving these streets. Very warm and cozy place, perfect for a morning date on one of the tables outside. The pumpkin spiced latte was subtle on the spice, which I like and the Chicken Milanese sandwich was delicious! The price was a bit on the expensive side but worth it. I’m very happy to have found this place.

Had a lovely dinner outside! All the food was great, but those fries were the real stand out. All around a nice meal. I’ve also had brunch here and would recommend.

Went for brunch... Enjoyed the food which was tasty and prepared exactly as ordered. I had the Western Omelet, my companions had the Cheeseburger and the Turkeyburger which they said were delicious. We also had the Bakery Basket which was quite good. The coffee was mediocre and tepid. The service was friendly but uneven (due to a staffer not showing up, we were told). The setting was a cramped basement room with awkward table placement which is not accessible to the disabled. Glad I had the chance to try it but will wait for the expansion before going again.

First time trying this place and I was disappointed with the pancakes. They had no flavor. The bacon and eggs were ok but not worth it. The place is nice with outside, inside and basement seating but they need to figure out that pancake batter. Not it!!!!!

$30 + 15% tip for 1 coffee + 1 (lousy) hot chocolate + a tiny frittata + a tiny biscuit with avocado + 1 cookie. 30 mins waiting in line to order, no covid distancing. 15 mins waiting inside to get the drinks. Was told somebody will bring the food to the table we sat at outside. Didn't happen. Heard my name called by accident when I went back inside to get some napkins to clean the dirty table outside, which nobody was attending to. An awfully popular awful place.

Lovely food. My only suggestion would be to expand the menu. Brunch and the cocktail menu was limited with the basic brunch necessities. Beware of tight knit tables.

This place is a gem, and here's why: Almond croissants to die for!!! I also had a breakfast burrito for my lunch - so I am very happy that I could get anything on the menu, even after breakfast. It was prepared with care and was delicious. The wait was negligible with counter service. I also had an iced chai latte and had choices about the type of product in it: milk, oat or almond. It was also delicious. I ordered and ate inside and enjoyed that the indoor tables were separate from the area for ordering, grab and go, and pick up. Additionally, there is a lovely bench outside to wait for your friends to arrive and there were many other outdoor table available for people to enjoy their goods. Finally, excellent customer experience, with kind, inviting people that were happy to assist me and very courteous.

Cute little bakery/breakfast joint that offers the usual cafe items but with the upscale spin you'd expect to find in Boston. Plenty to choose from at their counter ranging from the good old bacon egg and cheese on a croissant to high line sandwiches for lunch. Definitely worth checking out if you are visiting the SoWa station area. They offer limited indoor/outdoor seating, first come first serve... Or you can ask about their limited sit-down service which offers a separate menu. Quality was refreshing and service was great, just be ready to pay $20+ for a breakfast sandwich, iced coffee, and tax+tip. Would definitely put his on the list to check out!

I'm from Connecticut stopping by for PAX, I was with a group of 4 others and we decided to stop and eat breakfast here. I got the breakfast burrito with no sour cream, I wish I got no tomatoes too, but whatever. My friends got the salmon bagels they said it was really good. The only down thing about this place is the parking and it's small, but it's still a really good place to eat at.

The coffee servers were rude and the service was very slow for take out. I understand this is a difficult time to be in the restaurant industry but there should be a better system for ordering and picking up coffee/tea. I tipped but only had unpleasant interactions with the staff. I won’t be coming back here for my morning coffee. I recommend trying Greystone instead.

My husband and I have gone here several times over the past couple years, sometimes just for drinks and most recently for a full (epic) dinner. We love sitting at the cozy bar in the back, it is quiet and you get highly personalized attention from the bartender. Lovely cocktails and wonderful modern versions of comfort food - and almost no shrill, shrieking types like you find at so many South End places these days.

I opted for the champagne and caviar experience. I enjoyed the selections, and I hope they continue the experience. Our server was not as friendly as I had hoped, and didn’t really give us info on what we were having, and we didn’t have the menu to refer to.

Nestled in a cute neighborhood. So good!! Coffee was on point after a red eye flight, the croissant was flaky and buttery as promised.

I was disappointed by the value at the Buttery. $24 for French Toast, and the toast was not particularly special… just good French Toast like you could easily get for $12 elsewhere. Likewise, I ordered a $14 sangria that was supposed to have ginger and dark rum, but all I tasted was grapefruit and white wine. You can have a more flavorful breakfast at a fraction of the cost at Flour, just a few minutes walk down the street.

Great atmosphere. Cute place on a corner with a good variety of breakfast options. We had 2 types of Eggs Benedict and stake and eggs. All plates were delicious. Had a bottle of Brutt for mimosas but the orange juice comes in small containers need to upgrade.

I came here on a weekday morning with a friend and had the lox and cream cheese bagel. It was pretty good, my only qualm was that they were heavy handed with the cream cheese. The ratio of cream cheese to the other fillings was off. Otherwise, I’d go back and definitely want to try the pastries!

Based on the food this is a 4-star establishment. Everything is quite good, but not quite 5-star level. The smoked salmon & eggs is very good, the pancakes are well above average, then eggs benedict is very good, and the brunch cocktails are very good, too. South End Buttery loses a star (and it probably should be more like losing 1.5 stars) on service and pricing. I very rarely complain about portion size, but the portions are very, very small even for city standards, and the prices are outrageous given the portion sizes. Also, the service wasn't great, as our waitress seemed to visibly dislike talking to us, and provided mediocre service.

This is a quiet and cozy spot in the back of the better known coffee shop of the same name. The prix fixe menu is well-priced and everyone in our party enjoyed their food. One of us who did not opt for the prix fixe had the salmon and said it was excellent. The server was pleasant and prompt. The pinot noir by the bottle was delicious and well-priced. My concerns go to the level of attentiveness to the overall experience. A bin of clean silverware, two rags, and take-out coffee cup were left in view on the bar for most of our meal. It looked like we were there before opening (we weren't). No one on staff seemed to notice or care. Only when someone sat at the bar did they clean it up. The lighting is also a bit bright.

Yum! Friendly staff and delicious brunch food to go! We placed our order online which was the way to go for sure. Order early for quick service! Convenient pick up location in their Cafe, though parking is tough. Most people were double parking which I guess is the Boston way! They are terrific about accommodating allergies and special requests. They made a perfect medium egg which turns out is something most places can't manage to do! And those hash brown potatoes are worth the trip alone!!! The pastries in the case looked delicious and had I known how good they looked, probably would have ordered one. Since we had paid online and I just ran in to grab our order, I didn't get anything, but I think I should have! Enjoy!

Ok....the web site did not say it was take out only....So we waited for ten minutes for our order....we left and it was wrong. I ordered a ham ,egg and cheese croissant for breakfast. They gave me a ham and cheese with pickles....not good.. I will NEVER go there again.

We went for brunch and wanted to sit outside. We were told that all of the tables were taken though most were empty. We asked the hostess if she could say when a table would open and she told us to go to Open Table to see. When asked again she said she did know and that we had to go to Open Table. Horrible service. She gave no other advice or help. We then went to their take out side and they were very nice and helpful. We ordered, sat outside, they brought us our food, which was delicious. Take out side gets 5 stars. Restaurant side with unhelpful hostess gets no stars. Owners should really monitor and train their help. Customer Service is key.

Brunch was excellent here! The basement dining area was comfortable and intimate, but I would highly recommend getting a reservation since the space is smaller than most. We started off with mimosas (chose from Orange, Blood orange, or Grapefruit) and then had their Buttery Bakery Basket (blueberry scones are a must-have)! - The Breakfast Sandwich: arugula lightens each bite of fried egg all in the brioche bun and the home fries are crisp, halved fingerling potatoes 👌🏿 - Western Omelet: greens made this omelet fresh!

  • 5/5 Arianna P. 4 years ago on Google
Food was very good, fresh. The staff are professional and courteous which is appreciated especially during the Brunch rush when every white girl is annoying the staff asking “how much longer for a table?” Every five minutes. The host was attentive and informative, and our waitress was very patient with us. Everything on the menu looked so good so it took us a minute to order. Ambience is calm and relaxed. The restaurant part is small, but it keeps the noise level down. Will definitely be back.

I was disappointed with the new menu. Increased the price, which is okay, but changed a fabulous chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts to tasteless sweet potato and a big bunch of broccoli rabe. Why? This was my mainstay/ ordered many times. Change is good. This isn’t.

The baked good and prepared foods alike are wonderful. My only complaint would be the long slow lines on Sat morning. The South End Buttery has some solid food. I had the breakfast burrito and it was quite substantial and very delicious. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is it was almost as if the front of house didn't tell the back about our orders. We had waited for about 15 minutes, watching several orders after us come and go, wondering what the deal was. When we went and asked, someone was able to go in the back and pull our food and just handed it to us. Why was it just sitting there? No idea. Just seemed like they had some logistical kinks to work out. I'd avoid at peak hours, but otherwise, pretty good all around.
