It's a beautiful bar/ restaurant. I only stopped for a drink to get out of the rain.

The Merchant has emerged from the pandemic and reopened without missing a step! Drinks on point, burger cooked perfectly and with WHITE CHEDDAR! I did not have to choose between greens or fries, they offer a half and half. Excellent service!

Great location, beautiful interior. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food just didn't meet expectations. The sea scallops were cooked nicely but there was hardly a smear of sauce for it. Everything accompanying on the plate was way over cooked, charred and there was very little of it. For $31 dollars, I expect alot more than what I got. The blueberry dessert had the consistency of soup with way too much ginger. The whole meal just fell flat. The staff were delightful however and there's a nice atmosphere to the place. The food has to come up a little on this one.

Everytime I've been to The Merchant I've enjoyed myself. This time though they outdid themselves. We had Ricotta Gnocchi, Smoked Pork Ribs, Seared Cod, and the Organic Half-Chicken. The food was perfectly prepared and served. The flavors and texture combinations were modern and tantalizing. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and professional. The beer selection was well thought-out, and the ones we choose were delicious and fresh. It's hard to improve on how they operate regularly, but somehow they did it. Looking forward to my next visit.

Overall regretful experience. Do not recommend to POC, at least on Monday nights or whenever my server is working. As a black woman that likes to solo dine, I’m no stranger to picking up on the fact that servers often don’t want me due to stereotypes about black diner’s behavior (bad tipping, rude, sending food back). I knew I should have immediately turned around when I asked the hostess if they had seating for one and she looked at me with 0 enthusiasm before picking a sticky menu to give me (she had to actually pull it apart and still decided to give it to me without wiping it down or picking a different one). I sat for a good ~15 before a gentleman approached me asking what I’d like, he elaborated that my actual waitress was busy with another large party so he’d help for now. Sure, I thought, no biggie. But even after the large group left, she continued to give all her attention to two other tables full of (you guessed it) people of the lighter side. She was laughing, jovial, friendly. Incredible difference compared to the literal silence I got. There’s nothing quite like coming into a place just wanting a meal after work and coming away feeling less than human. My meal was ok- the drink was horrible but I felt uncomfortable sending it back since my server was already stand-offish. She spoke to me twice, each less than about 10 seconds, and could not have been more curt. After I stacked my plates neatly and got my card out she inquired about additional items (coffee or dessert)- as if! Suddenly I exist to you when there’s the potential for me to spend more money?? I’m tipping her 20% solely off the principle of the fact that I used to be a line cook & respect the food industry/it’s workers. Also, if I tipped her what her service was actually worth, it’d probably only drive home the stereotype and possibly cause similar experiences for future black diners. This was a very disheartening experience, but at least I now know one place in Boston where I’ll take my dollar elsewhere. It’s worth noting that this one waitress and hostess likely don’t reflect the restaurant as a whole- but I certainly have no interest in coming back to see if I’m right or wrong about that assumption.

I went there on a Sunday with some friends, so there was only the brunch menu available. There are lots of options of a classical American brunch. I'm just giving 4 stars cause the food was a little bit salty. There is live music on Sunday's brunch. The burger was really good, the fries are amazing and the salad wonderful.

Great food. Swordfish was absolutely delicious, as well as the burger. Bulgogi sandwich was really nice too. We ordered steak frites medium rare and it came almost rare, nonetheless it was good. Tasty cocktails, good selection of beer. Great service, efficient and friendly.

Love the place. A little too hot in there. Overall the oysters and the tuna tartare were delicious. Def stop by if you're in the area. 😎 Fyi if you're looking for a big selection of food this is not the place for you, still try it out.

The price for the burger was $2 more than what was on the menu ($19 v. $21), but otherwise the food was great, and it was served piping hot. Fix the pricing issue and this restaurant would be perfect!

Fantastic atmosphere. Quiet enough to have a conversation but not quiet enough to be boring. Food is plates thoughtfully and of high quality. I can't rave enough about the espresso martini..if you like vodka and coffee, its a must!

Amazing food and drinks! The bar staff was very attentive to our needs and the service was quick for being a weekend. So much to choose from for beer and cocktails!

Really good beer selection. "Mood Booster" cocktail is pretty awful, neither of us liked it. "Sweet Heat" missed the mark in that it doesn't taste sweet at all really, but personally I still really really liked it (my friend however, expecting something sweet, did not). We also got brought the wrong drink at some point, but were brought the right one 5 minutes later and told we could keep the other one without even having to ask for it, which as far as I'm concerned more than makes up for it so I'm pretty happy with the service.

Extremely overpriced but one of the FANCIEST restaurants/bars in the downtown area so it only makes sense! I recommend holiday parties and small get togethers at this location. Drinks are always classic and potent , so you get what u pay for with drinks !

Food was okay but the waitress was of no help. Took our order, delivered ONE cup of coffee, and never saw her again until time to get the check, and that was only after I stood up to leave. Water Guy was great... 3 times to the table.

Busy place close to a number of hotels and shopping. Good food and service. We had the buffalo cauliflower and tuna as appetizers, both which were delicious. Due entrees we had the ramen with shrimp and scallops. The scallops were delicious and the ramen was tasty. Not overpriced and good sized servings.

Really enjoyed dinner. Comfortable, contemporary atmosphere that was clean and we'll organized. Everyone, from the hostess to my server to the food runners were courteous, helpful and did a great job anticipating my needs. Food was fantastic - fresh seafood, cooked well. Seasoned well. Nice choice of menu options with a nice balance of traditional and innovative entrees. I'll be back!

Enjoyed the $1 oysters! Light and fresh. Tried out the gnocchi and fish tacos - gnocchi was great but very rich, tacos had great balance of flavor and freshness. Also had a couple of cocktails - Palomino and Amalfi were very good. Would come back on our quest to find a go-to oyster happy hour (liked that it runs 4-9 pm on Fridays)

Went there last night and the cod was delicious. Generous portion size and my server Rachel was great.

The $1 oysters were pretty good. The fries and fish tacos were solid too. Good selection of beers and cocktails. Service was really slow and our table was in such a dark area you couldn’t read the menu.

Came here for the oyster happy hour Friday night, and the Canadian oysters were crisp and tasty. However, their food selection was small. My girlfriend got the steak frites and liked the fries. I got the pan seared cod which turned out to be seafood risotto with a small piece of cod. The fish was bland and the risotto too salty. Our waiter was nice to ask the kitchen to re-do it and I got to know the risotto was “PRE MADE” and they’d just put parmesan before taken out??? No wonder it was cooked. The re-made one (pic 3) didn’t have the cod and portion was significantly smaller. I’m confused. I will come back for the oysters, but only the oysters.

Stopped by on a Friday night and surprisingly it wasn't busy. We came here just for the oysters (HH till 9pm). The oysters were pretty good and fresh. After ordering 50 oysters split between two, I now what my limit is :)

The service was pretty horrible here. The only saving grace was the host who was super nice. I was meeting a friend and arrived first so sat at the bar. I was completely ignored for the entire 10 minutes I waited for my friend. When my friend arrived we moved to another section of the bar and the bar back was nice enough to give us water, but couldn’t take our order. Took forever to order a drink and we sat with empty glasses for about 25 minutes before the bartender thought to ask if we wanted another round (we did). We probably would have gotten a third round, but because the service was so bad, it has gotten late so we just wanted to pay and get out of there. However it took another 25 minutes to finally get our bill and pay. This was not a busy night. I used to work in the industry so I am more patient than others, but the bartender was just hanging at the end of the bar talking to coworkers or just staring into space oblivious to our attempts to get his attention. The drinks were good enough, but I won’t be back.

Beautiful bar, oysters were so good the 3 of us ate 2 dozen. Cocktails were good, not exceptional. Ordered more food that we never got, but it was on the check and bartenders/managers never realized so the service was a little spotty. Came in for dinner and was stuffed splitting apps alone. Good portions and tasty food! We had the ricotta gnocchi, which was amazing and the roasted cauliflower. Loved both! Also love that they have vegetarian options on the menu. Our server was super sweet and attentive. I will be back!

I sat at the bar I had some whisky and I had a Pilsner the bartender recommended a exhibit a everyday lager. My uncle Patrick and I had great service at the bar from Daniel. The establishment was clean as can be, nice place to enjoy some time downtown.

Ordered the Steak Frites. Fine dish overall but nothing that wow’ed me. The fries could’ve been warmer. Ordered a cocktail that was good. Service was attentive. Not a bad option if you’re in that part of town but I wouldn’t go out of my way to return there.

Top notch and great prices for afternoon lunch. Outdoor seating, friendly & efficient staff. Loved the chicken parmigiana, and especially the crispy and chewy blueberry cobbler.

Nice place, good menu. Service is very rough. A colleague ordered a cocktail off the menu and 15 minutes later was told that they were out of an ingredient. He made another choice and 30 minutes later, still no drink. I spoke with the hostess who made it very clear that she did not care one bit about my colleagues missing drink. Won't be back

Went for a late business lunch. Dark and intimate atmosphere. Staff was attentive but not intrusive. We spent 90 minutes there. The food came fairly quickly but we were not rushed as we wanted to chat and get some work done. Great experience overall.

My wife and I ate dinner here before a show. We had never been here before and just picked The Merchant at random. The food and service were excellent! I had the Grilled Artic Char - best meal dining out I have had in years. My wife had the Steak Frites. The food was fantastic!

My top scene for american food. Do not leave if it's busy, it is worth it. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences here and plan to keep coming back. It has a great interior. Similar to a place in Denver I loved.

We love shake shack. This location was almost out of everything when we arrived. They did not have chicken nuggets and there were a lot of other items they told us they were out of. Good location. They had outdoor seating as well. The food was good I was just disappointed in how much food they were out of. It’s also disappointing when you have a 3 year old that wants their chicken nuggets and they are out.

Bartender Erick was extremely disrespectful and manger clearly could see this but decided to side with her employee! Highly don’t recommend

We like a lot hanging out. Yesterday we visited this excellent place which friends told us about. We spent a lovely evening there with excellent meal and an experienced team and an impressive cuisine. We put this place in our phone list and we will certainly return soon. Highly recommended.

Stopped here for lunch today (party of 7) The atmosphere and the food were both great. The burgers were delicious and juicy. (Rare to well done, both juicy and tasty) It was fast(less than an hour), friendly and I highly recommend you try it.

Had a nice experience last week, went with some of my friends. This American food house is very busy on weekends. I loved the tasty items because these are so delicious, spicy, and yummy. Popular foods are Steak Frites, Croque Madame and Slow Roasted Chicken.

Came to our table and greeted us with “okay so...” and then never came back. When we tried to get someone’s attention for the bill (after standing up, wavings hands, TRYING to get someone’s attentions, tapping the glass), we were rudely told to not tap the glass rather than asking why we were tapping. They were horrible. The ONLY good thing was the host telling us to have a good day. UNDER cooked sausage and took 15 minutes to get ranch dressing after asking 3 people and we received something resembling cold spinach dip. Bad experience. Bad wait staff. Bad experience.
