Holy fecking heck was this place amazing. We hit Boston one afternoon for aimless wandering and around lunch time and decided to try an interesting place. I'm always down for a good Irish pub, so we decided to give The Black Rose a try. Oh. My. Gawd. Did not disappoint. We sat outside on the sidewalk since it was a gorgeous day. Our server was absolutely amazing. She checked with the bartender to see if they'd make an Irish Coffee with cold brew (yessssssss) and was super nice. We ordered a Ruben, bangers and mash, and a burger with caramelized onions. Every single bite was a freaking food orgasm. The bangers and mash was something dreams are made of. Do not pass this place by.

First time here and from out of town, we asked to be seated in the bar for a drink and quick bite to eat. No one waited on us. We counted 14 servers and not one of them came over to ask us if we wanted a beer. Finally, many, many minutes later one of the bar keeps walked by and said you have to order from the bar. Recommend the hostess mention to those sitting in bar area to order at the bar rather than wait patiently for service at your table. Three stars because the bar looks amazing, and the pretzel was very good, though expensive.

How do you know you’re at a great Irish pub ? There’s a Pint of Guinness as an appetizer. Lobster roll was awesome and what else do you eat when in Boston ? Good portions. Good drinks. These photos are a few years old but they have the same great food.

The Black Rose is a Boston institution and a great place to visit for locals and tourists alike. I'm ashamed to admit that despite my 15+ years of living in the Boston area, that this was my first time visiting. The good and drinks are fantastic, though, and this place lives up to the hype. There's a reason why this pub has been around for so long. The atmosphere is noisy, so if you're looking for a quiet place to eat, this isn't your scene. The sausage rolls were good, but compared to the Irish Spring roll, they paled in comparison. The Irish Chicken was well-seasoned and moist, and the bangers and mash were delightful.

Really like the black rose. The hostess was a little curt but the wait staff and bartenders were attentive and had a great attitude. Food was great, especially the pretzel. Drinks were standard for a pub. Definitely a good place you could come with friends for drinks or with your family for food. Seems fairly popular with tourists though and can definitely get busy.

The iced Irish coffee was really good, and I liked the county meath. The French onion soup was pretty good, and the clam chowder was decent.

The Black Rose has been in its location between the Custom House and Faneuil Hall for almost 50 years. We have eaten at the Black Rose three times while vacationing in Boston. Each time the food was great and the location vibe is cool. On the other hand each time the server ( not the same each time) was short and a bit rude. If not for the questionable service the Black Rose would score an easy 5Stars. On the oth

My husband wanted to try some Irish food while we're in Boston, so we checked this place out. We enjoyed the live music a lot and loved the vibe. Even though the restaurant seemed to be very busy at the time we're there, but the waitress was still very attentive and our food came out very quick.

This place has absolutely iconic status! Yet, to say that I went there - a pub - for lunch would be to diminish what the place is all about. However, I mention this for a reason. The food was terrific. The ambiance was breathtaking. The drinks served were fine. The staff was attentive and response. So, if they did such a good job at an hour they were hardly expecting guests - Their service was at their best - Then it shoes that they've got class and they're always ready to deliver. Awesome place!

We did an Irish pub crawl in Boston and this one came out on top by miles. Traditional Irish decor with provincial and county flags all along the walls. Irish bartender. Irish music every night. Frankly, for a town that's supposed to be so Irish. There are very few great Irish pubs. This one is the only one you should go to. Trust me.

Really cool place with great drinks. Ordered the Shepard's Pie and it was probably the best I've ever had. They made a number of fun drinks and then a local music band got on the stage. Everyone was standing and watching and listening from the sides. It was great! Can't wait to go back.

Went here for lunch with the family. Daughter had fish n chips. She said it was to die for. Girlfriend had cob salad and said it was delicious. I had a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder was thick and flavorful. There was a hint of bacon flavor. Overall an easy 5 star review!!

I was there first time today, but this pub positively impressed me. Light friendly atmosphere with some noize which is common for pubs. A really tasty Irish ale. All the dishes were served fast and we enjoyed our meal. A live music is perfect with a kind musician. I wish I will travel to Boston one day again and visit the pub one more time. Thanks for all your hard work!

We popped in here several times last week, visiting for a few days with friends. It’s a nice place to be. With Harp on tap, it makes for a good evening out. The live music was spot on. Food is good, perhaps pricey, though it’s a city centre. The chips could have been hand cut rather than frozen crinkle cut (it’s the little things). I recommend the pretzel, the strong mustard and cheese dip should be a nice starter to share 🥨 Prices for drinks are good, compared to some bars nearby. I had the chicken pot pie, not bad. I much preferred the fish n chips, which was very nice.

Walk through the Quincy Market area and hang a right. Easy to get to. The clam chowder is still the best I’ve ever had! Average prices for the area (think tourist prices in a big city). Recommend viewing the menu in advance. Didn’t pay the $10/pint prices but if you have it, go for it! The “chips” were really good, hamburger was average, chowder a must, chicken tenders were something I’d recommend (especially if you have kids in your party) because the portion was big. Most of the fare was heavy pub food but salads available. Bathrooms tight so be warned. Our server was pleasant and we didn’t wait long for food to arrive.

We (2 couples) stumbled on this place while walking around, exploring Boston for the first time. Small. It was crowded and service was slow but to be expected on a busy Friday night. They had live music, entertaining. We just had a few beers for a quick in and out.

Very cool historic pub. Loved the interior. The food was just ok. The bathrooms smelled of bleach so much that I was overwhelmed even with my mask on. But they were at least very clean:)

First of all, my husband does not like curry, but we both LOVED the chips with curry sauce. It was fantastic. My fish n chips was savory and crunchy and perfect and the shepherds pie is the ideal for a cold day. It was rich, thick and delicious. That pear margarita was on point, too. Service equaled the high quality of the food. We definitely recommend a visit!

Service was ok and the food was good. Prices were a bit high, but it is kind of a tourist spot, so that's not surprising. Atmosphere was classic Irish pub... Would visit again.

Such a fun place! We've now gone for brunch, lunch, dinner, drinks, and live music. The atmosphere is so fun and the food is amazing! I'm certain they make the best pretzel on earth! Can't wait to go back.

Visited here twice in our short stay, and both times we had a great experience. The first night we had food, and both meals we ordered (Guiness Stew and bangers & mash) were delicious. Some of the nicest pub food we've had in a while. The guiness was nice and creamy too, considering it was our first time trying guiness we ended up having another pint each. It is expensive at $10 a pint, but we knew what we was going into given it's in a city centre, just be prepared. We then came back on Thanksgiving night, as it opened at 7pm (no food served, but we had already asked the first night so only came back for drinks). It was such a good evening, the live music was great and the bar filled up pretty quick so glad we got there early and got a seat. We stayed a good few hours and had several pints of guiness each, so it was an expensive night but I felt worth it for the authentic experience, the live music and festive atmosphere to end thanksgiving night with given most places where shut. I've read some of the other negative reviews on here, and I cant say we experienced anything bad about this place from the food, to the music or service from the staff, they where all really friendly and quick to serve. Not sure if we was lucky both nights or it's generally improved overall. I'd say worth a visit if your looking for a pint or whiskey in an irish bar.

We like a lot going out. Last night we came to this fine place which we didn’t know before. We spent a beautiful experience there with great food and a nice stuff and an impressive cook. We put this venue in our phone list and we will definitely come back very soon. Highly recommended.

We went to The Black Rose because of a friends recommendation and we are so happy that we did. The fish and chips and clam chowder were perfect. I was so happy the waitress asked my if I wanted the smaller serving because it really was the perfect size. Our serve was very attentive and we can't wait to go back.

Fantastic traditional Irish pub. The Shepherd's Pie is delicious, and every dish that I've tried has felt like it includes really quality ingredients. The whiskey and scotch selection is not extensive, but includes things I really like, so it works for me. I love the old building too, I always appreciate the aesthetics and functionality balance of past generations.

What an atmosphere! This place was booming yesterday evening! Me and my friend thoroughly enjoyed the live music and the vibe. Their Celtic chicken sandwich was highly recommended by my friend. I ordered the Pretzel which was super soft and the dips were great. You can’t go wrong ordering a Guinness or two for sure. Live music is what we came for and the artist on stage yesterday made all patrons sing their hearts out! Definitely recommend trying out this place during evenings.

Food wise, I'd give it 4 stars but our service was pretty bad. I saw other servers hustling so I know it can be good, our server just happened to be mostly non existent. The bangers and mash was absolutely fantastic. Probably the best I've had. The reuben rolls could've been a huge hit as well but needed a bit more corned beef and cabbage inside instead of dough. But this place is worth checking out. It's in a fantastic location and has a really cool vibe.

What a great Irish pub! Loved the old decor, high ceilings and festive atmosphere. The food was authentic and outstanding. Shepard’s Pie was phenomenal and the bangers & mash fantastic! The pints of 🍺 just made everything better. Great service. Reasonable prices.

This place is pretty good for a quick bite. Cons: We ordered 2 coffee cocktails and the server said that there is enough coffee for one cocktail only, so we sked to make second cocktail with cold brew instead. Both cocktails tasted very flavorless, not sweet, not boozy at all, just like regular coffee with milk. And the bathroom was very bad kept. It was dirty and smelly and it wasn't that busy at the time we visited so I don't see a reason why nobody could clean it. Pros: the food was really good. I ordered steak and the portion was huge with very thick but tender piece of meat. I would definitely come back here for a steak.

Had dinner the other night and it was delicious. Got the Black Rose egg rolls that had corned beef in them (that was creative) and the Guinness beef stew, and a generous serving of their boston cream pie which interestingly didn't appear in the menu (maybe the availability varies?) I want to thank Tommy our waiter who did an outstanding job in telling us about the items on the menu and one that's not. It's a very comfortable pub/restaurant, enjoyed the Irish music they played some familiar and others not, but all enjoyable. I'm already looking forward to the next time I'm in town to try the rest of the menu and enjoy the experience. Thank you Black Rose.

A pretty good restaurant let down by its waitstaff. The food was good, atmosphere was very nice, but for being a Tuesday around 4 o'clock, the service was extremely slow. It was at least 5 minutes after we sat down before anyone came over. No water was offered. Our appetizer came quickly and then our main course(s) behind that but then no one came over until about 15 minutes after we were done eating. I still tipped 20+% because that's the right thing to do but I was not impressed. I would certainly give it another try but with so many other restaurants around, I'm not sure why I would any time soon. C'est la vie.

Our wait staff was wonderful, the food was good and how can you go wrong with a pint? My only criticism is the host was, if not outright rude at least disinterested in the extreme... when he arrived I gave him our name and he just said your table is over there and went back to texting. All in all is was ok but probably will not go back

Sat outside at 430ish. Wasn't busy at all. Server took forever. Never ask for drink refills were needed. Never asked how the food was. Walked up and said, "do you know what you want yet?" That was the first thing he said after 15 minutes of waiting after initial seating. Not exactly thrilled. Food was pretty good but wished I sat inside, due to insects become a nuisance
