Great place to stop by for coffee and pastries in Downtown Boston. George Howell has been one of my go-to spots for coffee in the downtown area. Since this is their flagship location inside the Godfrey hotel, empty seats were rarely available, but they did have extra tables in the hotel lobby. I was usually able to grab one of the comfy couch seats without any issues. My favorite menu so far is their shaken cold brew. It's slightly sweet but goes well with their pastry selections. I've tried the orange danish and sticky bun, and both were excellent. Their sandwich selections also looked nice, and I'll definitely be back to try those for lunch.

Expensive but tasty and cozy. Got Large Chai latte. Their large size is a typical medium size and the price was 5.26. It was a tiny bit too sweet for me but quite tasty. They had quite pleasant music on (instrumental style). Everything was clean and well decorated. No plants though.

It was one of my favourite cafes in Boston. It was nice and spacious and the employees seemed very knowledgeable about coffee. I got the pour over with BLT and the food was also surprisingly good. I also grabbed two beans from them, and I can confidently say that it was some of the best coffee that Boston has to offer.

Incredible coffee with lots of attention paid to the quality and art of every single cup. I had the most incredible caramel latte I’ve ever had with absolutely unbelievable latte art. However, the best part of my experience was the helpful and friendly staff. Every single barista was knowledgeable and enjoyed talking about the different roasts offered as pourovers. The prices are certainly higher than a chain like Dunkin, but you get what you pay for! Can’t wait to return again and try the Ethiopian coffee on drip.

This coffee place is outstanding in latte flavor and latte art. The baristas take their time to make a masterpiece. Definitely, this place is one of the best coffee shops for amazing latte. Just to clarify the food seen on the pictures is not from this place. The food was from Cafe Bonjour ( just around the corner). The latte, matcha latte and macaroons were from George Howell Coffee and we enjoyed them. Highly recommend this coffee shop.

E were visiting Boston, and this was a cute little cafe in the vicinity of my Airbnb. We stopped by for the breakfast. My mom started her day with the regular coffee and a bagel with lox. I ordered a cup of mocha with a regular breakfast sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese in English muffin bread. My husband drank affogato, and Italian delicacy of expression drink paired with a scoop of gelato. He choose to eat an avocado toast with it. The avocado toast was absolutely great. The avocado was super fresh. The lox sandwich was pretty good, with the good quality lox. Overall the food and the drinks were great. My husband and my mom departed for their scheduled tour. While I spent another couple of hours working from there. It was crowded, yet working as great. The wifi was cool, so my work from anywhere went absolutely smooth. I would like to go back anytime.

Bustling, stylish, and a little expensive, I wasn't sure what kind of coffee shop I'd walked into until I got my pourover. The coffee was complex, bright, earthy, and was honestly pretty excellent. The service was cheerful and the folks working there seem to take a lot of pride the coffee they are making. I picked up a canned snap-chilled coffee that was also excellent. Didn't get the chance to try the pastries this time but they were very tempting and the avocado toast was flying out of the kitchen. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area!

First the shop looks nice from the outside. I ordered one large cappuccino and one large mocha both were hot. The cappuccino was nice but the large mocha was all fake and syrupy and not like a mocha cappuccino. The mocha cappuccino was similar to a really thick hot chocolate and kind of disgusting.

We stopped at George Howell TWICE during our short visit to Boston. We had cold brew, a cappuccino, and bought a bag of beans. It’s all very good. They source and roast the best coffee in the world from sustainable sources. Go there. Enjoy.

A great place to enjoy coffee. I went to get beans following a recommendation. Beans come with a free cup, drip or espresso? Espresso. That comes with a free cup of water, plain or sparkling? :-) Well, it is great flavorful coffee and as others have mentioned in a relaxed, bright ambience, and very nice staff. I forget what the specific roast was today. If you like coffee as a drink (not a tool!) you'll like this place and might like the events too.

I've been a big fan of George Howell in the past. Loved the atmosphere and the coffee, their baristas' skill are excellent. I'm giving one star because of the customer service I received this past Monday around 4:30pm. I was waiting in the cordoned wait-line area, no one was ahead of me. There was one barista at the machine and one person looking through the register computer. I felt completely ignored, as if I was invisible. Finally after waiting about 7-8 minutes, I politely asked the cashier if I could have the last slice of chocolate cake. The cashier acted begrudged and nonchalantly served me. I am very disappointed at the service I received here, and won't be back anytime soon, or not at all.

Ordered a Pour over with Ethiopian sourced beans. Taste wonderful. The atmosphere is lovely. They are efficient, fast but not in a rush, with ease. They don’t seems to have power plugs so make sure your laptop has enough juice to last a bit.

Because, yes, this place was amazing. Had an expertly crafted cappuccino and tasty sticky bun. Wish I could have had a table. I guess some people wanted to enjoy the atmosphere for an extended time after their drinks were finished. Took the coffee to go though. Staff was smartly courteous and friendly. Thanks GHC!

The coffee is just okay for third-wave. Tried both the house blend and the Karindundu pour-over. Neither was my favorite, maybe the other two origins are better. Dunno if I really want to go again for $7 a shot though. If you're thinking of this place, I'd recommend giving it at least a try - I may have just had a abnormal experience. The interior is both pretty and comfortable. If you want to sit down and work it is a solid choice of café.

Pumpkin spice latte is amazing! Mildly sweet with the aftertaste of real pumpkin.

The reviews are great so I was excited to try it. Just got their almond croissants last week and it was not good. I've had an enormous amount of croissants and found their almond one to be too soft, dense and way too sweet. Just wasn't right.

Very friendly staff, great coffee, and reasonably priced! A must go to. I got a Shorty, 3 iced lattes to go in a cute little container and a cup of ice to enjoy in my room!

Great coffee shop serves good quality coffee and tasty baked goods. It was amazing when I first tried coffee sangria and latte, and they are both my favorite (tho a bit pricy). Iced coffee is also great; however, the shaken ice coffee might not be one of my favorite. Overall, this is a coffee shop that I won’t miss when I am in Boston!

Fantastic interior, good amount of seats, don't see many outlets. Very friendly and helpful staff. This one bean I tried wasn't terribly to my liking but I went for decaf. Made with care.

Probably one of my best coffee experiences ever. I had the Alchemy espresso and the filter of the day. Both amazing! The space is incredibly beautiful and well located.

  • 4/5 Brit G. 1 year ago on Google
The coffee was robust and deep in flavour. There was a lot to enjoy and appreciate with each sip. The staff were decently friendly, and the shop itself is well-designed and has a nice atmosphere. The fact that the kitchen closes at 2pm doesn't really make sense, because so many people want to eat at that time.

Quality coffee. Tasty breakfast sandwiches. Lively ambiance. This is a must go to coffee shop for a wonderful experience and excellent food/tea/coffee. My friends are super picky with what they eat and drink and they approved of this place! I tried a London fog and loved it. One of my friends had an iced coffee and the other got a tea. Both were happy with their choices. The sandwiches were also delicious. I got my egg sandwich with arugula on sourdough bread and it turned out so tasty!

Stayed at the Godfrey Hotel and stopped her for coffee and breakfast and did not disappoint! Coffee was hot and egg, cheese, tomato and arugula breakfast sandwich was great! Ingredients were fresh and mayo/sauce tied the sandwich together perfectly. Others in the party got a red eye (hot apple cider and espresso) and a cappuccino and everyone very satisfied. Was very busy, all tables taken but wait wasn’t too long.

I got an oat milk cappuccino and a chocolate croissant, both being very tasty! I remember thinking that this was one of the best cappuccino’s I have had in a while… Atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly.

First time trying George Howell coffee. I think the coffee selection is great. Being Colombian, it was nice to see the different varieties of Colombian coffee they have. Coffee is worth the visit. Croissant was also good. My only comment is the meh service or at least the guy that took our order was not welcoming and looked annoyed when we asked for our croissant to be warmed. Overall, go try their coffee!

The employee was very helpful at telling me his recommendations for coffee drink. I was meeting up with one of my friends here. The seating was very comfortable. I ordered some type of cinnamon twist snack, which was delicious.

We stopped at George Howell Coffee on our way out as we wanted a quick, yet filling coffee and breakfast before our day started! I ordered a decaf pumpkin spiced latte with almond milk (SO GOOD) with a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on an English muffin. My Husband ordered a regular drip coffee with an egg, tomato and arugula sandwich on an English muffin. Both were so yummy and filling (as you can tell my Husband couldn't wait for me to get a photo first before taking a chomp), perfect for a quick breakfast on the go! And man oh man those baristas were pumping out orders like nobody's business! We went in the middle of the morning rush but you wouldn't have known it by how quickly they were getting people through the line, we waited no time for our order. Great spot!

George Howell Coffee on Washington Street is a true haven for coffee lovers. My latte was a delightful masterpiece, expertly brewed and perfectly balanced. My only regret was rushing through it; it's a must-visit spot for any coffee enthusiast near Boston Commons.

Very interesting place attached to a hotel lobby. The coffee and food were great, I didn’t think an egg and cheese sandwich would be anything special but it was quite delicious. Cafe seating was pretty full so we sat in the lobby of the hotel next door, which had a lovely atmosphere. They sell many coffee makers/accessories, as well as George Howell merchandise (sweatshirts, etc.). The coffee was good, nothing super special but I absolutely enjoyed it.

What a delightful coffee shop! I was beyond impressed! I only wish I had daily access to this amazing experience. HIGH, HIGH quality ingredients and ridiculously high standards have been applied in sourcing the ingredients and shop items. I actually bought items to take on the flight with me so that I could prepare my carefully curated tea and coffee collection at home with a bit of George Howell flair. The build out is equally amazing! Again, if I had daily access to this place you could expect me to loiter there endlessly. Such a great space to work from, social in or just have your own individual Zen moment with your coffee or tea ritual. Outstanding customer service. I highly recommend!

Excellent choice for coffee lovers and good food, a very nice place, calm, excellent food and many options to choose for coffee. They sell articles related to coffee and coffee in grains of different origins. 100% recommended

This meal was over $14 and not filling. The espresso is very dark, not my preference but it happens. The sandwich was 50% more expensive than most, but I would have expected real eggs for that price. The eggs were fake egg and barely tasted egg like, and they were cold. The aioli didn’t complement the sandwich either.

A+. Very well laid out cafe. Fairly large with a good amount of seating, and also fairly busy. Espresso drinks carefully prepared, and they offer a great selection of single origin pour over options (brewed on mod bar / kalita wave). Very friendly baristas, especially considering how busy the cafe is (one told me all about their espresso machines and grinders while finishing the drinks in the queue). Cortados were great, donuts we're pretty good too.

Love this place! Student friendly, good choice of caffeinated drinks, quick bites (salty and sweet), conforming music, AMAZING SERVICE, soothing atmosphere and great location. We need more places like these in Boston.

Trendy city spot for the coffee lover. They serve it all kind of ways. I had the flat white. The coffee itself had a very strong flavor with some bitter aftertaste. Fee like this is a great ‘wake me up’ coffee. The space was full of young people working on computers and taking in the city vibes.

We had a great experience here! Day 1 Max took his time in explaining the coffee they make and use. Super nice guy. The drink he chose for us - at our request - was phenomenal - a pour over. Day 2 the second Max at the cash register, was super helpful and kind - taking time to answer all of our questions. The Coffee Sangria was excellent! We HIGHLY recommend!!

This coffee shop is a dream. I had the flakiest, most buttery croissant and the most silky smooth latte I’ve had in a long time here. If I could give them 6 stars I would!
