When you walk in, you will notice how everything is run down and falling apart. Menus were falling apart. My seat would wobble back and forth and when I put my back on the backrest I pushed a poor little lady into her food. Not clean at all including bathroom where there was a UV light there to kill flies sitting on the counter top with the tray filled with flies. Lets get to the food. It was such a let down, how much? It triggered my depression. The food was poor quality not too mention way over priced. How much again? I paid almost $25 for a lunch box and a roll. It also came with rice with the quality so low that my girlfriend thought there was bleach in it because of the smell and taste. I even doubted myself for a moment. I’ll let you all decide based on the picture if this is worth it. Also there was a lady randomly cleaning walls in the middle of the day. Maybe serve customers and clean before or after close?! Also whats with the cherry tomatoes?!

Beautiful decor. Very modern, nice vibe to sit in and enjoy. The ramen however was not very good, it was edible but it was way too salty for an enjoyable broth. The chasu chicken was very dry I couldn’t eat it. No additional chili or garlic flakes for condiments. Overall first few bites were okay. The spring rolls were good, very large portion for one order, I would order this again. Our server was very nice and polite. I’ve been to a lot of top ramen spots in Vancouver- check out my other reviews. Would not come back here for ramen, I’d rather eat instant ramen, that says a lot…

Our only reason to eat ramen is for the rich and creamy pork bone marrow broth. Kawawa doesn't have many pork bone broth ramens to choose from. Most are vegan and miso broth based. We chose Tomato Beef Ramen and Cow Tongue Ramen. Both are $15.95 each. Both rich and creamy and ridiculously delicious. Not too salty. Just right. We drank all of the broth. Yum! However, both ramens, the meat lack meat flavor. They must have excessively tenderized the meat with baking soda that they lost all its original meat flavor. Bummer. In case you don't know, cow tongue in Japan is considered a rare delicacy, therefore, very expensive. To ruin it like this is a big "DA ME ダメ!!" [Update: August 22, 2023] Last time we tried their ramen side of the restaurant, this time we tried their "All Day Mix & Match Items". Wife and I loved it. We find the $22.95 a bargain but not the $36.95 Premium as the only difference is the addition of Sashimis. Big eaters would want all-you-can-eat. Small eaters like us don't go to buffets because we can never get our money's worth, not even close. That's why this 30-item method is more suitable for us because WE CAN DOGGIE BAG THE REMAINING ITEMS!! We ordered two $22.95 ($10 minimum per customer) and are entitled to 60 items. We filled our stomachs at the 32 items mark, so we doggie bagged the remaining 28 items instead. Let's see you do that in an all-you-can-eat buffet. 😝😝😝 No restaurant is stupid enough to allow doggie bagging from an all-you-can-eat buffet 🤣 Anyway, my version of MUST EAT and MUST SKIP: MUST EAT: - Miso Soup and Gomae Salad - Miso soup is tasty. Gomae Salad has too much sauce but still good - Salmon fish heads - delicious but very greasy. Salmon heads are expensive at supermarkets - Temaki or cones - twice the size of Nigiri sushi but still count as 1 item - Salmon and Tei Nigiri Sushis - Only if you had enough of Temaki ☺️ - Chicken and Beef Terayaki - sauce too sweet but delicious - Maki Sushis - Two Maki Sushis count as 1 item - Yam Tempura - Wife loves that - Udon - pretty tasty, although you can not doggie bag it unless you bring your own container. MUST SKIP: - Oyster and Scallop Motoyaki - ROFL! Tiny oysters. Tiny bay scallops. You will LOL when you see it! - Deep Fried - they are all very greasy. Fried tofu is not bad, but that tiny cube counted as 1 item. Not worth it! - Ebi, Tamago, and Inari Sushis - Tiny cooked shrimp, egg, and sweet tofu you can live without - Fresh Fruit and Edamame - LOL. Seriously!?! Remember to bring your own containers as it cost $1 each here! [Update: Oct 29, 2023] We've tried Mix & Match a few more times since. This time, however, for the first time, we ordered the Premium Mix & Match. It was on a Saturday, therefore, the cost was a buck more than weekdays, at $37.95 per person. We've tried the Premium exclusive items: - 310 to 312 Sashimis They were surprisingly good and a great bargain in comparison to genuine sushi restaurants. Considering we paid $22 for 7 pieces of minutely bigger tuna sashimis at genuine sushi restaurants, Kawawa's $1.27 per item ($37.95 ÷ 30 items) or $1.27 per sashimi piece was a great deal. The only problem is that you are limited to 5 pieces per person. 😮‍💨 - 722 Salmon Teriyaki Meh. Nothing good to say. You can do without. - 781 Grill Beef Short Ribs Small but absolutely delicious and a little too sweet for our taste. Also, most pieces came with a chunk of fat that we had to remove for our health's sake. In the end, there is not much edible meat available to eat. Overall, we still think the regular $22.95 Mix & Match is a better deal. We would have recommended the $36.95 Premium Mix & Match if only there is no limit to ordering Sashimis. Still, considering how much we doggie bagged (see picture), $37.95 was still worth it 🤤🤭🤤🤭 PS. Try not to come during peak hours and on weekends. The food were mostly luke warm to cold. Everything appeared to have been pre-cooked, thus leaving the food cold. Once the crowd left, everything were back to normal.

Food was good but I had eaten almost my entire meal before my husbands food was brought out. 2/4 stalls in bathroom were out of order and 1/2 sinks. Fix instead of putting up signs ?! They never asked if we wanted anything to drink and didn’t bring a bill. Menus were in horrible shape

Unfortunately, Kawawa has gone rogue. They have effectively launched a protest against the all-you-can-eat movement. As a way innovate the ayce sushi industry, Kawawa has introduced a new economic system in which each customer is awarded 30 tokens, and each token is to be spent on one item. They do keep track of your token usage, so be careful what you invest you tokens in. Stocks to invest in: - Nigiri is good, although they limit you to 5 pieces (not very legendary.) - Grilled Salmon Head (delicious, but limited to one per person, come on!) - Rolls and Cones (they actually slapped) Stocks to Avoid: - Tonkatsu (just don’t, especially if you respect Japanese people) - Fresh Fruit (your token is not worth ONE singular orange slice.) - Deep Fried Tofu (the batter literally tasted like cardboard, like you know the free cardboard boxes you can take from Costco? Yeah.) Kawawa, I really wanted to like you man. It pains me to say that Kawawa was not very Kawaii desne. I hope to come back to Kawawa again, and when I do, I hope that they are able to separate their communist political ideologies from the sacred art of Japanese AYCE. There should be no Japanese AYCE with a built in economic system that oppresses people who enjoy eating more than 30 items. We as a nation need to get together and change Kawawa for the better! Fight for change, fight the system, fight for equality, because whether you’re White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, LGBTQABCD+, you should still be able to enjoy a TRUE and AUTHENTIC all-you-can-eat experience without limits, not this pseudo-all-you-can-eat b*llsh*eeeeetttttt.

It’s almost like an AYCE since we can order up to 30 items per individual. They have aburi sushi included too! That being said, on a busy day they may mix up orders, but the servers are friendly and efficient, always ready to resolve your problem.

ONE OF THE BEST DINING EXPERIENCES YOU CAN HAVE AT THE METROTOWN MALL. Totally worth the money you spend. If you go during the “late closing hours”. YOU CAN ORDER AND EAT ALL YOU WANT…EXACTLY… ALL YOU WANT! (If you waste food… you might have to pay for the extra…however, the staff are really nice so you don’t really have to worry too much)

Price hiked for “AYCE” (but limited to 30 items) to $22.95 on weekdays (up from $19 3 weeks ago). Certain items like chicken karage have limits per item (5 per person). Miso soup is no longer unlimited for dine in, despite the menu still says otherwise. You may have a chance of being full if you order strategically, ordering mainly sushi (rice makes up 90%), meat items like Tonkatsu, or udon dishes. Of course don’t expect top notch food for the price of course; portion sizes have decreased a lot even compared to 3 weeks ago. Sushi is somewhat miniature sized (60% of regular size sushi, fish is as thin as paper), Pork Tonkatsu is about 6cm in length per slice (1 order = 1 slice), and oyster motoyaki takes lots of extra chewing to break down. I really want to say you get your money’s worth, but it’s debatable at this point. Maybe it’s only worth it if you order 30 pieces of salmon sushi.

Visited the restaurant two time before. First visit was okay with some sushi and katsu. The staff was kind. Second visit was awful. Ordered some ramens and gyoza. 5 (or 6) pieces of gyoza took more than 30 mins, but it was not busy. The plate was very dirty, so I needed to change it two times. They forgot the gyoza on the POS. The staff was not kind and she never response me. (Asked about water, but forgot 3 times and asked her again.) probably she needs more training for customer service. Food was so-so. 두번째 방문에서의 만족도는 별 한개를 드리고 싶었습니다.

They have very good options for Ramen. The flavor is really good and consistent. I’ve been there twice and the flavor did not change significantly. All the personnel is really friendly. The only thing I would like is to have more beverage options.

I think the food was just purely bad. Got the kawawa ramen and the original ramen and both of them were just super bland and super tasteless. It was very diluted and didnt feel like ramen. While i was there, had a lot of people were frustrated with the service of the restaurant. I think you guys should fix the issue of the service. Cheers!

This is located under the theatre by the escalators. Place has changed a bit since last here. Much brighter than before. The all you can eat is max 30 dishes per person. We were full after 58-total-dishes. All food served was fresh and good. The only down side was the chicken teriyaki- unless I’m used to soft edges, seems as if it was very hard/aged too much. The service and atmosphere was excellent and would definitely come back.

Good value resturant, conveniently located in metropolis, its nice to have a quick bite in rainy day. Lots of choices of foods and the food came very quickly and the service was surprising good! Its nice that the parties can do all you can eat and choose from regular menu in one table. *As long all parties who are not eating all you can eat needs to choice items over $15.

We ordered two Ramens and Beef Tongue. They are disaster, especially the beef tongue, they reheated the beef tongue by tantan ramen soap, making the tongues without any taste of beef. The Ramens’ texture was really bad, overcooked. Chashu were cold, like directly from refrigerator. Eggs were too salty. Service is quite well, but the kitchen is horrible. Dirty, messy and seems dangerous. Not recommended even you are really hungry.

Nice restaurant in the mall if you feel like sitting down and taking a break. The food court is usually packed and there is nowhere to sit. Lots of seating here. Good service. Lots of things to pick from eat. Sushi rolls are pretty big. The kawawa roll was pretty solid. I like the fountain in the front. I like to reflect upon how the mafia government extracts every dollar from my wallet with no regard that I'll be eating a can of beans for dinner.

Totally not recommended. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we already saw cobwebs/ dust buildup on the lamp shades. The floor seemed dusty too. The owner/chef was seen coughing in the dining area without covering his mouth. Unhygienic. The food was terrible. We ordered original pork, kawawa, fried chicken, and shoyu ramen. The prok broth tasted like instant ramen soup, and the chicken broth simply had the taste of msg (it didn't even taste like chicken). The server didn't take our order properly, and our order was missing eggs and had the wrong broth. However, the server did not admit her mistake and insisted that the order was correct. It was until we showed her the menu when she finally agreed to give us our egg back (she didn't address the issue with the broth). Will not come back to this restaurant. This price can get us better food elsewhere.

The worst japoneses restaurant I’ve ever been as in service as in food. I went last night for dinner and once I ordered it took them 28 minutes to deliver the order to the table. Terrible way to deliver food to customers When they handed me the dishes they almost threw them at me, lousy service from the waiters and the woman in charge. They never took away the dirty dishes, I had to ask for tea and napkins and they never served me again that, I order fresh fruit, they gave me just a simple grape and the edamame were frozen in and after all the manager expects you to leave a tip. The food just doesn't taste good. This restaurant doesn't even deserve one star.

Best place to go if you love Japanese food 🍱 🍣 I went in thinking there was some kind of catch but I can assure you that is not. We order 60 items yes 60!! And they are not run down or something, it’s the real thing. We got so much food!

Kawawa was closed for renovation so we decided to give it another try when they reopened. Right when we arrived at 11:25am, there were already parties of people waiting outside. Right at 11:30am, gates are open and we are seated immediately. 10 tables on a Monday lunch is quite a handful for 2 waitresses. Food is mediocre, it's basic ayce. Service was ok, the waitresses were doing their best to multitask. The kitchen seems lacking because some deep fried foods were cold when we got it (and they just opened???) I liked chopped scallop cone, grilled salmon head and fried smelt. DO NOT GET: scallop motoyaki (the scallop pieces were pathetic and chewy and it's so salty) if you are impatient or hangry, don't come here because it takes time for food to arrive. I've noticed other tables were mostly staring at the kitchen to see if their order would come out soon. 😅

I came for the soft opening after renovations have been completed. I used to actually like the ramen a lot but I feel like the quality went down when I visited again. I had the original ramen which is really light but the bamboo shoots tasted a little weird and the egg was over cooked by maybe 1 minute. Ajitama ramen egg is supposed to have a still runny centre (roughly 6 minutes cook time and then put in ice water to stop the cooking). The service was a bit slow which was fine but I don’t think I’ll be coming back another time after this.

Ok-ish all you can eat for the price. In a convenient location right within Metrotown and steps away from the movie theatre. There was a line up on Sunday morning before opening with all the families waiting to get in. Food was average, nothing really stood out, but service was quick. We got our first food on the table within 15 minutes and food came consistently. Oyster motoyaki was mostly mayo with very small pieces of oysters. You can get up to 30 items from the all day mix and match menu. Overall, an ok experience with a good price tag.

Food was great, but the service wasn’t too good, we asked twice for hot sauce and never arrived, also when we finished I noticed the other clients had tea, and we just got water, the waiter never asked us if we want water or Tea

  • 5/5 James C. 1 year ago on Google
Good overall experience. Will give them five stars. Expectations weren't high but food was actually quite tasty, and the price for AYCE was extremely cheap by today's standards. I think they said they will discontinue it though, makes sense as that price was too low. Service was slow but they were trying to manage two restaurants with 3-4 servers so they did their best.

The food is good. The environment is serene especially when you are a group, you have all the time to chat over a loaded food. The price is right with the food you get. I went there with some friends and go home with a happy tummy😋

We tried the original, shoyu and beef tongue ramen as well as their kimchi fried rice. Their ramen is not too salty, just right. I was surprised to see how many bad reviews this place had as we personally found the food to be quite tasty. The price is also still reasonable compared to a lot of other Japanese restaurants we have tried! The portions are good. The place is clean and we had an overall pleasant experience! Though they definitely are understaffed, the service is not as bad as some of these reviews make it out to be. For pokemon go players, you can reach 3 pokestops and a gym here so it can keep your kids (or you) occupied while waiting for your food. :)
