😠 Ordered take out some sushi sashimi yam. They are still take out. The price are high for this quality. Everything was average low which was a bit disappointing. Portions were small, the quality of some of the fish was questionable as various pieces had a dull, lifeless look to them. And no tasty. People often mention sushi, restaurant, good, ordered, Japanese, quality, rice, fresh, sashimi, service,

Small, authentic Japanese restaurant with fresh sushi and delicious dishes. My favourite is the pork shogayaki, or ginger pork. A must-try! The owners are very nice; the husband usually takes the order and prepares the sushi. The wife is usually in the kitchen, cooking up the yummy dishes.

Ordered take out in advance - a party tray and some sashimi. They are still take out only- no dine in Everything was average which was a bit disappointing as they were very good pre-pandemic. Portions were average, but the quality of some of the fish was questionable as various pieces had a dull, lifeless look to them. I picked up my order 25 mins after I called so it wasn't because I took too long to pick it up. I'm hoping eventually things will pick up for them again as they were really a hidden gem type place for locals before. Or maybe they won't since I'd bet most people go to STEM next door since it's newer and fancier (warning - STEM doesn't do sushi).

Very nice little restaurant in the neighborhood. The place is relatively small. Its dishes really reminded my wife and I of the time we lived in Japan. It's just like a neighborhood restaurant in Japan. Homey and authentic food. Our experience here was great. We got tempura appetizer, chirashi donburi, and sushi combo D. Tasty, good portion, and reasonal price. There are lots of options, next time I want to try katsu don, it's only $11! We were there a bit early, about 5:30pm, and got our food served quite quickly. But I can see the owner may be overran if there place was full, because I think it's just the owner serving/making rolls, and a lady in the kitchen. Tea/water is self-serve. If you need a waiter to bring you everything, and come check on you every once a while, this may not be the place for you.

Amazingly delicious salmon don. The salmon itself was fresh and perfectly cut, and the rice was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. One of the best salmon dons I've ever had. Plus, the portions are huge too so you really get a bang for your buck. Would definitely come back!

I ordered the Chirashi Don and the rice was cooked perfectly. Everything was good; however, I would've preferred Ikura with the don like other places. Self-served, he definitely needs help being as busy as he is. Japanese owned.

I live quite close to this sushi restaurant, and I have dined at this restaurant with my family a few times. Every time we dine here, we leave disappointed and confused as to how we feel about this place. The sushi is good but the service is horrible. Very unsatisfied with the service. Tonight was the worst I have ever seen it. I came in with my husband and before we even ordered any food I instantly felt rushed and unwelcome (as is usually the case). We ordered a few items off the menu and he rather aggressively took our menus away. He wasn’t even concerned if we were done ordering or not. When we explained we would like to order more food he reluctantly handed one menu back to us. When our first orders came to the table, I kindly asked if I had ordered the Agadashi Tofu (as I couldn’t remember if I had ordered it or not) He motioned to me with his arms to calm down and told me to be patient. I could not believe what I was hearing.. how disrespectful that was. I’m still in shock to be honest. I’m not sure what is wrong with the gentleman (owner) that serves tables but quite frankly (in my experience), he is extremely rude. I think he forgets that he is in the service industry. If you choose to eat here.. best option would be take out.

I haven't been back in ages and thought I'd give it another chance but I was disappointed again. The service is lacking. There needs to be another person helping with clearing tables and taking orders. The chef cannot run full speed and do everything! Tonight I had ordered take out, took too long to make and the rolls were made in a rush. Plus they forgot to pack my yaki udon noodles. I had to drive back to pick up. Very disappointing. It used to be better but honestly, paying a little more for better service makes a huge difference!

Tastes like Japan! The sushi rice was perfect. The tempura was fried perfectly crisp on the outside. Their tea is special and high quality and tasted so fragrant in flavour and aroma. The miso soup was one of the best I’ve had. Very fine tasting with real tofu bits and seaweed with fresh green onion. Tried the bento A and B and both the chicken and beef were juicy and went well with the steamed rice. The potato salad tasted like it was made from scratch, but was a little bland. Sushi rice was perfect and the sushi and sashimi were fresh and good. A solid standard Japanese restaurant.

Quality food, unassuming place run by a Japanese couple. Does not accept digital payment; bring cash or your debit/credit card.

Food was good.. however sunomono was soo tiny it was literally 2 bites. Portions are very small and it's very expensive. I was looking forward to a decent sized sunomono.

Very delicious food and great service! Each dish came with lots of toppings and rice which was wonderful. We got the fried tofu, tuna poke, salmon sashimi and katsu don. There were all very delicious and our food came fairly fast

So fresh! I have meant to stop in for years, but the long wait time for take out during the pandemic always dissuaded me. I'm not much of a forward thinker when it comes to food. I'm hungry and then go find it. I visited around 12:30pm on a Friday and ordered the takoyaki, California roll and salmon sashimi. Everything was very fresh, tasty and the presentation thoughtful. I will definitely eat here again. Sadly I did not see the kitchen specials until after my meal - soft shell crab, BBQ black cod, oyster fry and more. The space is cozy, seating less than 20. Serve yourselves tea and water. Appears to be run by a husband and wife. Lovely man, I look forward to chatting with him on my next visit as he was busy with the hustle and bustle of running a restaurant. Prices are reasonable for the times and good considering the superior quality and freshness (compared with some larger outfits like sushi garden).

Me and my GF decided on this place last minute tonight and I feel like we found a diamond in the rough. We ordered ebi tempura and it was very fresh! Then ordered a couple of the special rolls and a rice bowl. Everything was definitely a cut above other places in the same price range. The owner and chef clearly know what they’re doing.

Been ages since we’ve been back to Makoto. Same Japanese husband and wife combo. No more cheap $2.00 saba nigiri. - Assorted sashimi ($28.00 for 12) - salmon and hokkigai were the best pieces. Good quality but on the thin side. - Futomaki ($7.00 for 5) - the sakur denbu was not to my liking; sweet like sugar. - Umeshiso roll ($4.00) - love the touch of sour/tartness. - Negitoro roll ($4.00) - excellent. - Chopped scallop roll ($6.00) - mediocre. Too much rice, not much scallop. - Nigiri - saba ($3.00), toro ($4.00), hamachi ($4.00) and tamago ($2.50). Delicious but the saba nigiri is still the best thing to order. 3.5 stars

New favorite Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood run by Japanese couple. Price is moderate for the quality of food you get. My must have items here are the toro sashimi and seafood salad. Sometimes you need to refill your own tea but I don't mind. It's a family run restaurant that serves good food.
